Friday Night Fights
Afternoon, chaps - I'm just back from the office and settling in to enjoy this afternoon's match. Let's be honest - every match until the end of the season is a cup tie for us with precious points on the line. This evening, it's Wolves away at Molineux for us. We picked up a last gasp 2-2 draw at Elland Road back in the fall courtesy of a penalty by Rodrigo. I'd be delighted with that result again today, as it would give us another vital point toward safety.
Join me on USA from 3:30 pm onward. Come on, you Leeds! #MOT!

Good Afternoon, Bob. Well stated. Every match will be a cup Final, or at least until Leeds wins three of those. Here to support you for the match on USA
I had posted the quarter and semi draws for the three Euro competitions. My apologies if it appeared to overshadow the match. It was not my intention. If United had advanced there would have been a Manc Derby in the quarters. There could possibly be a repeat of last season's CL Final or a Madrid Derby in the semis.
Afternoon, David - thanks for joining me. I think that Dave has some guests over, so it may just be the two of us sweating this one out.
Thanks for posting the info on the CL and EL draws. It would seen that Liverpool is destined for a semi-final match up with Bayern.
West Ham have a reasonable draw, though.
You're welcome . I'll be giving it my all. It's a tough one and I know you didn't have this down as a win , but now every match is a must win
The team news out of the Midlands today:
Wolverhampton Wanderers: Jose Sa, Boly, Coady, Saiss, Jonny, Neves, Joao Moutinho, Ait Nouri, Dendoncker, Daniel Podence, Jimenez.
Subs: Marcal, Trincao, Silva, Chiquinho, Ruddy, Kilman, Gomes, Hwang, Cundle.
Leeds United: Meslier, Ayling, Llorente, Struijk, Dallas, Klich, Forshaw, James, Rodrigo, Harrison, Bamford.
Subs: Koch, Cooper, Klaesson, Phillips, Gelhardt, Cresswell, Summerville, Greenwood, Kenneh.
Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire).
You're welcome. Also, Rangers representing Scotland and if they get past Braga would have Leipzig or Atalanta in the semis. Foxes in the CL face PSV. If they advance they could face Roma and the surprisingly prolific striking form of Tammy Abraham in the semis
Leeds will need to be mindful of the fact that Wolves have a top defense and are dangerous on the counter. They will need tone almost error free today
The big news for us is that Raph is out, possibly due to Covid. So, it'll probably be Harrison on the left and James on the right. Lord Bamford running down the middle, of course.
Kal Phillips and Liam Cooper are on the bench and may play a role if needed. Joffy is there for impact, of course.
Glad Kal made the bench today and with Bamford in the starting lineup that's an encouraging sign. Joffy on the bench.
Despite that really late Toffees win, Leeds remain four points clear of the drop zone. That result may have hurt the Hornets more than Leeds
Wahay! Teams in the tunnel now - come on!
Wolves is undefeated in their last half dozen meetings with Leeds. Now is as good a time as any to end that streak
It would be a perfect time - come on!
The Leeds boys get us started then. I would an early goal.
They're off from Molineaux.
COME ON LEEDS! MOT!
Oh - nice ball in from Jack. Jose Sa grabbed it.
Leeds attack from the off and Jose Sa does gather a Leeds pass from the left
Nasty one there on Lord Bamford. Don't like to see that.
Oh - Dan James has a pop - well over the sadly. I would've liked to have seen him work Sa there.
We're looking a bit jittery at the back.
Not happy with Leeds dilly dallying about at the back, but thankfullyWolves life to play 50 yard back passes
Oh - I thought Rodrigo had scored there. So close - just wide of the mark, but a brilliant break through Dan James.
Nice run down the left by Dan James on the break but diverted just wide by Rodrigo
Podence had a go at goal and Meslier covered it well.
comfortable save by Meslier from Danny Podence.
I'm relatively happy with the first ten minutes. We've had the better chances.
Oh - super ball from Luke to Dan James - just couldn't reach it.
Oh - Lord Bamford was in there but he chose the near post. I would have gone far post instead.
OH! Just wide by Bamford. A little rusty there . Nice pass from Dan James, then just wide after turning the defender
Nice fluid play from us but I shudder every time that Wolves break forward because we seem likely to concede.
Oh - Dan James had a chance to float one in for Lord Bamford there but he hammered it too hard instead.
We've definitely had chances but we may rue these misses. I'm not sure we've had one on target yet.
Oh - Raul tried an acrobatic one but he just couldn't get over it, fortunately.
Stu came up a bit lame after that foul. I hope he shakes it off.
Ruben Neves down for Wolves. His named spelled backwards is seven
Long injury issue for Neves - I'd love to see him go off. He's a danger man.
Oh - Dan James was in there but couldn't get a shot off.
Neves is back on - shame about that.
Uh oh - it looks like Lord Bamford's hamstring has gone now. Curses!
DAMN! Bamford down. The last thing Leeds needs. Was offside off the nice through ball
So Bamford is off and Sam Greenwood is on. I've been watching him in the U-23s and he's an exciting prospect.
BUGGER! The inexperienced Sam Greenwood on for Bamford. Only a dozen minutes of Prem experience. Formerly of the Black Cats and Gunners Academies
Llorente has played a number of suicidal balls in this one. I'd have him off at the half if he doesn't sharpen up.
And now Wolves are forced to withdraw Neves. Trincao - another Portugeezer - on for him.
Wolves also with a key player off injured. A Portuguese swap as The reverse of Seven replaced by Drink Cow
Bugger! Wolves cut us apart and Jonny nets. 1-0 down.
BUGGER! Drink Cow goes on a long run down the right immediately after coming and Jonny Otto scores a rare goal. Sorry, Bob
And of course the Molineux faithful are giving us the Joy Division treatment.
Lord Bamford in tears on the bench with Liam Cooper's arm around him.
Sam Greenwood caught Saiss there as he cleared it. Lucky to get away without a card.
Not a Pre Saiss challenge on Roman by Sam Greenwood . Was he booked for that?
Definitely so. Young Greenwood won't get another warning
Oh - Rodrigo tried one from distance. Shanked it well wide.
Saiss down again after the challenge. Another change may be enforced on Wolves and Bruno Lager
Saiss is down for treatment now.
Let's hope that Lage has to waste another sub here.
It sure doesn't look good for Saiss. He seems to be in a great deal of pain
Saiss still looks shaken. Might have to come off indeed.
Agreed, Bob. I think Lager will heave to waste another sub and I'll drink to that
I was anything Presaiss as he's able to continue
Raul Jimenez was Struijched down by Pascal
Rodrigo wins us a decent free kick chance now. Shame that Raph isn't on the pitch.
Meanwhile Koch is coming on for Llorente.
Moutin ho fouls Rodrigo from behind just outside the DS off a nice turn and should have been booked for that
Robin Koch off for the injured Llorente Express . Only one subsittution remaining for Jesse Marsch
Free kick from Sam Greenwood in to the wall
Shame that Sam Greenwood hammered it straight into the wall. That was hero time for him.
Oh - nasty clash there between Koch and Raul.
Raul Jimenez and Robion Koch down off a strong challenge. Jimenez to be booked for retaliation
Raul picks up a yellow for that.
That was nasty by Jimenez. Definitely a deserved booking
Bruno upset because his lager is late arriving , or is it the the decision for the throw in?
Eight minutes of stoppage time to come - it has been that kind of match.
YIKES! There will be eight stoppage time minutes. Eight is more than enough.
Into those eight min utes of stoppage time. That's a lot despite the stoppages
Oh - one heck of a hit from Trincao that cannoned off the post. Phew!
OH! A shot from Drink Cow crashes off the post
At least no zip tying this match. Who knows how much stoppage time there would be
Oh - we nearly pressed the self-destruct button there. Fortunately, Raul put it wide.
BLOODY HELL! What the heck was Struijch thinking? He nearly gifted Raul Jimenez a goal
Klich down, holding his head. On first glance it looked a nasty challenge
That will add to the Eight is Enough minutes
Kal is up warming up. I thought he might come on for half an hour but Marsch might be forced to stick him on.
Wolves now sixth , but that will change as the two teams below them , Spurs and Hammers face each other on Sunday.
VCOME ON LEEDS! LETS' BEAT THOSE WOLVES. A Leeds win helps our United too
Klich is struggling off now with a cut to his head.
Klich back up after shedding blood for the cause. Hopefully he will be able too continue
Charlie Cresswell coming on for Klich now.
He will be replaced by Charlie Cresswell, but Leeds will still have one sub remaining as this is a concussion sub
Great challenge from Stu Dallas there as Raul was threatening.
PHEWQ! Thankfully Johnny Otto shot over off a pass from Danny Podence . Challenge from Stu Dallas put him off and now it turns out it was tipped over by Meslier
It will be a total of ten to eleven stoppage time minutes
Struijk gets a yellow - I don't think he touched him. Raul seemed to trip himself up.
More stupid defending by Struyijch as he poorly misjudged the ball then brought down Raul Jimenez from behind
Bugger! We've switched off and conceded a second goal just on the stroke of half-time.
BUGGER! DRINK COW SCORES. DANNY PODENCE LEFT WIDE OPEN OFF TYHE SHORT FREE KICK AND HE PASSED TO DRINK COW AS HE PLACED IT IN THE CORNER FROM THE EDGE OF THE BOX.
Wolves two up at the half. Sub, Drink Cow , with a goal and an assist
An unusually quiet Saturday tomorrow as there is only Prem match, Villa vs Gunners at 8:30 AM then one cup match, Teesiders vs Chelsea at 1:15 PM.
We're back on for the second half now. We'll need a turn around quickly.
Back for the second half at Molineaux.
COME ON LEEDS! MOT!
Danny Podence brings down Adam Forshaw a minute after Podence was down off a tackle from Forshaw
We have an early free kick chance now that is cleared out by Jose Sa.
Free kick Sa was punched away by Jose when he should have caught it
Rodrigo called for a foul on Drink Cow , who made a meal of that challenge
Nice sweeper keeping by Meslier off a long clearance by Connor Coady intended for Drink Cow
Bob , did I hear shouting for Desmond to sprint straight to Molineaux
Oh - another nasty collision there between Meslier and Raul.
Absolutely, David - let's hope.
More sweeper keeping by Melsier and he clears off a challenge by Raul Jimenez. Both players down
That should be a second yellow card Raul. He caught Meslier late.
I thought Jimenez was late, but on the replay it looked more a collision. I think a second yellow would be a tad harsh
Bruno Lager and one of the Leeds assistants in a shouting match
That's it - Wolves are down to ten men. Raul given a second yellow. That's the right decision.
Spot on by Bob. Raul Jimenez sent off for a second booking and at least apologizes to Meslier. Second sending off of the season and both for a second yellow.,
Bloody hell - Meslier is struggling off. Klaesson on.
That provides some hope for Leeds as they will be a man up. Unfortunately Meslier goes off injured and replaced by young Norwegian Chris Klaesson, signed in the Summer by Valeranga
We earn a corner now. But it comes to nothing.
Another corner now - take your time with it!
That was an atrocious short corner by Rodrigo, passed straight to a Wolves player. Absolutely unprofessional then another Leeds corner
Another rubbish free kick and Luke Ayling hammers out.
A hoorbiel corner from, Jack Harrison and Luke Ayling does his best , but it's out for a goal kick
I don't think Leeds have any substitutions remaining , so no Kal tonight. Peter with the dreary news as I typed that
According to Peter Dreary, Wolves get four substitutions since Leeds did, so they have three changes remaining and knowing Bruno Lager they'll all been stoppage time
A fan rushes on to the pitch and unlike last night, apprehended immediately. I think the type of tie Bob wants is on the scoreboard, not a zip tie. Right, mate?
Half an hour left in this one - come on, boys!
Trincao again having a go - he's been the difference for Wolves.
YESSSS!!!!!!!
Jack hammers it home after two chances for Luke!
2-1!
WAY HAY! JACK HARRISON PULLS ONE BACK FOR LEEDS. LUKE AYLING DESERVES A GREAT DEAL OF CREDIT
After a VAR check the goal stands . Why was there a check to begin with?
Delighted for you, mate. Game on
WAY HAY! DESMOND AS RODRIGO TIES IT UP
Another scrambled goal
Oh my giddy aunt! Rodrigo has equalized!!!
Might be a Conor Coady own goal.
Will the goal be credited to Rodrigo. I think it may be an OG. Volley from Dan James off the bar then his rebound Sa was blocked by Jose then an unusually Poor and less than Pre Saiss clearance and the pass to Rodrigo came off the defender on the line
Just before the goal, Stu Dallas was taken out by Joao Moutinho. VAR check comes to nothing.
I'll take a draw - blow up, ref!
Bob, Kate may have to write some Merci Beaucoup notes as some defensive errors from French Born defenders resulted in both goals. What do you think of that?
On the first goal , A long diagonal by Robin Koch was horribly misjudged by Ryan Ait-Nouri then a shot from Luke Ayling off the post then off the line then scrambled in by Jack Harrison
Will Kate say that Wolves were guilty of deux faux pas?
Oh - Jack was nearly in again but the flag's gone up.
This comeback is also good for United. Wolves were up to sixth place, which is more than a false position for them
Cresswell with a foul there that gets him a yellow card.
Ryan Cresswell booked for a foul on Ryan Ait-Nouri . The locals wanted red, but that was no different that Raul Jimenez's second yellow
Now Boly has gone down after a clash with Klaesson.
Willy Boli down off a punch from Meslier off the free kick. Now that's what I calla French connection
Sorry. Off of Klaesson. Not a French connection. That's enough to put Boli off of Norwegian Cod Liver Oil
I like this - just play it around a bit. Corner now for us.
Dan James wins a corner off Saiss then the offside flag comes up about thirty seconds late
No - Dan was offside.
This is Leeds last match heading into the break. A good result would provide momentum for the run-in
My shift just ended and I turned on the telly and everything's tied up. I just saw Creswell launch into somebody or other, but Wolves must have a playacting reputation so I support letting that go under Neves and Moutinho stop cheating.
MOT!
Oh - Jack almost played Dan in there - just a touch too far.
Everybody Wang Chung Tonight coming on for Wolves as Bruno Lager going for the win. He's on for Danny Podence, a striker for a midfield player.
Podense off now and the dangerous Kwon on. He scored against us back in the fall.
Hwang that is.
Good Evening Steve. How are you. TGIF and hope you're doping well. This has been quite a match
Bob will Hwang Chung Tonight if this result stands and definitely so if Leeds win
He's a spotty one that Hwang. And a pain in the neck. He's got a goal against us too.
Down to ten minutes now - blow up ref!
Steve, you will be interested to note that Leeds were gifted both goals by defensive errors from tow French born defenders. Therefore , Kate will need to write deux Merci beaucoup lettres
Doing ok David. Nice enough here to clean the spiders out of the Webber this weekend.
Phew - Dendoncker met that cross but it was well wide.
I think Hwang Chung tonight played for Jesse Marsch at Salzburg, so Jesse may be relaying that message
Afternoon, Steve - it's been a right old ding dong here at Molineux. I'd be delighted with a point.
We had sunny 70 degree weather yesterday, but cool, damp, and rainy today. Jacquelyn had a spider in her bathroom, but otherwise, free of those posts so far
Lord Bamford has a smile back on his face.
Steve, also Raul Jimenez sent off for a second booking like at Citeh but at least these weren't 25 seconds apart
Yeah, we were out doing some yard work. Lovely couple of days.
Not exactly stellar Leeds defending . Faffing about at the back then a sliced clearance by Meslier
Bugger! Koch fouls Hwang Chung and Wolves have a chance to bring up the big boys.
No more snow, Bob? I'm sure you won't be missing that
Free kick by Moutinho headed Pre saissly straight to Melsier. That as a free header
Oh - how did Dan James not score there!
He's another one that has trouble standing up. I know David Luiz nearly killed him but wouldn't you have thought an event like that would have given him time to repent his cheating ways?
OH! Nice run and pass by Jack Harrison off a pass from Adam Forshaw then a last ditch block by Saiss from Dan James for a corner
Charlie Cresswell wins another corner. Just keep it up the other end.
Then Ryan Ait-Nouri clears for another Leeds corner
Oh - now Jack has pulled a great save out of Sa!
Steve, Raul Jimenez is the reason why Leeds had to bring on the young Norwegian keeper for a Leeds debut. You're spot on
Oh - Charlie Cresswell had a chance to win it there! Over the bar.
Wolves really on the ropes here. Come on!
OH! That Sa was a great save from a long range shot from Jack Harrison then a close range header by Charlie Cresswell just over
8 minutes, strewth!
YIKES! Eight is enough for Bob as that's the amount of stoppage time
James wins a free kick out wide left. Finish em off!
Naughty by Saiss on Dan James. Should have been a booking
Into those eight stoppage time minutes
Oh my!!!!!!!!!
ARRRRRRRRRRCHGGGGGGG. GET IN!!!!!
WAY HAY! AYLING GIVES WOLVES A LATE 2-3 LEAD. KEPT A POOR FREE KICK ALIVE BY HEADING IT ON
Poor free kick headed on by Luke Ayling then a poor defensive header by Willy Boli then Struijch won the loss ball then Ayling smashed it home for his first goal since the ope ing day at OT
I'm still dancing around the house!
Some arbybargy between the two teams on the sideline now.
Bruno Lager made a double substitution. Kind of late as he brought on Fabio Silva and another player
Agreed. A fight almost broke out in the technical area
Forshaw has picked up a yellow card in that melee - one of the assistants too.
All three Leeds goals done to defensive erro0rs by French born defenders, Merci Beaucoup indeed.
Oh - great save by Klaesson!
Great save by Klaesson off a long range rerockjet from Hwang Chung Tonight then from Drink Cow off the throw
Blow up ref!
