A Manchester Kind of Morning
Morning, boys - I'm up with the chickens to follow the morning's footer action. We start with a bang in just a moment with one of the biggest fixtures of the season, Arsenal v. Liverpool. It's a key match in the struggle for that all-important fourth Champions League slot. That's followed at 10am with the usual Saturday 3pm kick-offs, including City v. Watford on USA and a slew of matches in the Premier League and Championship, including Norwich v. Newcastle, on Peacock. We wrap things up with Brentford v. Spurs on NBC.
Join me, won't you?

It's nearly kick-off time and here are the teams on display at the Emirates:
Arsenal: Ramsdale, Cedric, White, Gabriel, Tavares, Elneny, Xhaka, Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe, Nketiah.
Subs: Leno, Lacazette, Holding, Tomiyasu, Pepe, Sambi Lokonga, Martinelli, Azeez, Swanson.
Manchester United: de Gea, Dalot, Lindelof, Varane, Alex Telles, McTominay, Matic, Elanga, Bruno Fernandes, Sancho, Ronaldo.
Subs: Bailly, Jones, Maguire, Mata, Rashford, Lingard, Henderson, Wan-Bissaka, Garnacho.
Referee: Craig Pawson (South Yorkshire).
One change for the Gunners, with Cedric back in the side replacing stand-in Ben White. Rob Holding drops to the bench.
United make five changes from the side that lost 4-0 last time out: Ronaldo, Varane, McTom, Telles and Sancho all back in the side.
Arsenal start in fifth on 57 points and will jump to fourth at kickoff. United are three points behind them and will be desperate for a win, which will bring them level on points with Arsenal and Spurs.
Hi Bob,
I am here for the first half before I got off to golf. It is a sad set of affairs that I am not that bothered missing United playing!
We're away at the Emirates now. Arsenal straight into the attack.
Good morning Bob. Here on an unusually mild morning back with three sacked brekkies and watered coffee ☕
Arsenal take the lead1!
SO BAD BY VARANE!!!
Great save by De Gea...no United player wanted the rebound!
What was he doing!!!
Gunners take the lead in the Emirates Massacre
TWO UNITED DEFENDERS WE PATHETIC
Telles was worse than Varane!
GOAL! Arsenal have the ideal start with Saka trying a curler. De Gea but Tavares taps home the rebound.
1-0 Gunners!
These guys are porfessionals!!
Don't they want to play for United?
Aren't they ready to play!!
Good morning, Dave. Keystone Cops defending. Easy goal
Morning, Dave - sorry about that one. Not a good start for your lot. Maybe a spot of golf is the right idea.
Elanga with a shot.... saved
Oh - Elanga was nearly in to equalize there.
Two whiffs but two defenders....just hopeless
I think Ralf has lost the dressing room. Would they be any worse with Ralf Malph in charge
Morning, David - how is the weekend going in Dayton?
McTom heads wide
Should have done better
Nice block by Ramsdale from Elanga
We've been having a good time up here, thank you for asking. How is everyone?
Harry Maguire might be feeling a bit pleased - the United back four didn't really look that clever without him.
Clapping for Ronaldo.... great stuff fans
Nice ovation for Cristiano Ronaldo from the Gunners following now.
Morning David
Such rubbish so far
Well done. Moments applause for CR7
This doesn't look good for Saka. No clash with any other player; might have been a twist.
Good morning Dave. Agreed. Absolute rubbish
Three defenders were so bad!
De Gea should be so pissed
Varane whiffs
Telles whiffs
Dalot just lets the guy get the rebound
Chance for United.... Ramsdale with a useless ball.... Bruno misses it!!
Oh - Bruno should have equalized there. Both defenses seem to be on strike this afternoon. Are they in the pub watching?
Bruno shoots wide with just Ramsdale to beat after the keeper gifted possession to McTomain
Gunners now fourth ahead of Spurs at Bees in the late match
How about some support from fans for Harry Maguire, who suffered a bomb threat at his house this week. Shocking!
Elanga with great speed there; he goes down but referee Pawson waves on.
Elanga with a nice run... can't get the shot off
Of course, not a pen for Dixon...not much of a tug... nothing given
VAR check in complete and we play on.
United have already been better than at Liverpool... but still pathetic
Hatters one up vs the Tangerines. If this result holds Hatters will be in the playoffs with an Evil Blades or Evil Lions loss
It wasn't a shock to hear Arsenal defender Lee Dixon defending another Arsenal defender.
Agreed As Dave mentioned on Tuesday former players are biased towards their clubs
I'd like to see that, David. Luton in the Prem would at least be interesting. No one is excited about seeing Fulham and Bournemouth back.
Decent free kick position for Odegaard to hit one now.
Stupid defending by Elanga on Eddie
The two numpites are being like TT... yapping too much when attacks are happening!
Free kick to the Arsenal
Agreed, Bob.sadly those two will be back in the Prem
Free kick over the bar
They used to not allow former players to commentate on their former clubs.
High and wide by Odor Guard
Do you think Daniel James would have helped United? Is he more dangerous than Elanga or Rashford
I think Dan James is compatible to those two .No better, no worse
You can't have Dan James back! You've already stolen him once.
Steve must be licking his chops
No problem, Bob. You can have him. I don't Erik wants him as one of his ten hogs
United want a pen.... nothing happening
Dalot hits the crossbar
What a shame
Shout out for Leeds. Unfortunately, it's to remind of us that opening day hammering at OT.
OH! Dakota off the bar
Sorry, Dalot.
was that handball ever checked?
Oh - great save by De Gea from Nketiah to keep United in this one.
United so wide open at the back.... great save by De Gea!
Awful by United's back four!!
Three of them leave people open...the fourth keeps everyone onside
Great save by De Gea from close range from Eddie
Posh relegated if they lose vs Forest today. I think that will happen
Now he has scored - sorry, chaps.
Two nil.... so wide open!!
UNBELIEVABLE!!
WHAT DO THEY WORK ON DURING THE WEEK!!!!
BUGGER! GUNNERS TWO UP. MOE COMICAL DEFENDING
VAR checking the Nketiah position for offside.
So pathetic
VAR looking....is it offside
Nice one touch defending and Eddie easily scored with just defending to beat. Looks like it will be disallowed for offside
Now checking for a penalty - lots of activity from the VAR.
It is offside...now..it is a pen
It will be given
Arteta gesticulating wildly at Craig Pawson as he comes to have a look. Looks like it might be a pen.
It is a pen
Nketiah was offside but it's a penalty nonetheless. Saka will take.
SO BAD by Telles!!!
Luckily,disallowed for offside
Instead a penalty since Eddie was just offside
Saka takes and strokes it in - sorry, chaps.
Now it is two nil
Less than a game and half...our goal difference has gone down SIX!
GOAL! EDDIE PUTS GUNNERS TWO UP FROM THE SPOT, SENDING DE GEA THE WRONG WAY
Bruno busy complaining....how about just shooting and passing straight
Wow - Ronaldo gets one back!
2-1! Game on!
United with a chance there but a poor pass by Sancho to Ronaldo blows it
Ronaldo gets a goal!
Great finish from the great man. The ball was behind him and he had to finish on the half volley. A lot of players would have ballooned that over. He made it look easy.
That should have been a penalty!!
These guys are so pro-Arsenal
Terriers clinched a playoff spot yesterday. Carlos had done a great job with them
Yeah - United should probably be at 2-2.
Will the three numpties go across town to be at the late match?
No one wants to see the Terriers back in the Premier League.
Bob mentioned the Cherries and Cottagers. Top two showdown at Dean Court at 10.Bob will be watching with excitement
De Gea does well to turn a shot around the post
The three numpties could have a nice bite to eat and then watch the other one together. Nice life, eh?
Cherries vs Cottagers on Plus in case anyone is interested
I think Carlos could be a Prem manager soon. Perhaps the Tofffes job if they survive
No thanks. I'll grudgingly watch them next season in the Prem.
5 added minutes of the half
A quintet of stoppage time minutes
I want Forest up
LOL, Bob!Forest still have a chance at finishing second. Forest at Dean Court in May
Telles with a decent shot saved
Back and forth stuff now - this is a really good match.
Nice by De Gea from Odor Guard
United look like the could score....but they look like they will concede EVERY time Arsenal get the ball
De Gea saves again
Yeah - I'd like to see Forest up as well.
Luton one up at the half. Goal scored by a Cottagers reject
Half-time: This one is still up for grabs, thanks to that Ronaldo goal. All to play for in the second half. Are you sure you want to go to the golf, Dave?
Gunners lead 2-1 at the half
United take their sweet time and never get the ball into the box as the halftime whistle goes
That is it for me boys
Enjoy the rest of your day
Enjoy it, mate!
Been a good game but so bad from United at the back!!
We're back on for the second half now - hope it's as good as the first half.
Second half underway from the EM
Cheers Dave. Enjoy the rest of the day
Cherries vs Forest a week from Tuesday. Cottagers vs Luton a week from Monday. Those matches will decide who goes up as runners up
Tavares with a nice turnout atrocious finish. Would the disco group have done any worse?
The energy has somewhat gone out of this match at the beginning of the second half.
Nice disco reference, mate. I believe that the Tavares featured on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack were a Portuguese American outfit.
VAR check now for handball on Cedric.
It is a penalty! Bruno to take....
VAR CHECKING for hand ball and a possible hand ball for a United penalty for a corner
Oh - he's hit the post! Terrible miss from Bruno. Sorry, mate.
PENALTY UNITED.
BUGGER! PENALTY WIDE BY BRUNO.OFF THE POST AND OUT FOR A GOAL KICK
Thanks, Bob. That was a huge miss.
Oh - Elanga pulls a great save out of Ramsdale.
Bob. BRUNO missed his chance of being picked by Tavares .Not exactly good enough footwork for that group. Need a different Portuguese Man of War
I didn't like the celebration by Ramsdale after Bruno's miss. It would be one thing if he'd saved the shot but it's unsporting to celebrate right in front of a player who's missed a pen.
Oh - Ronaldo nets but it's ruled offside. VAR is checking it now.
BUGGER! Nice volley BY CR 7BUT DISALLOWED FOR OFFSIDE. VAR CHECKING. LONG THROW WAS HEADED ON
VAR doesn't change it - still 2-1 Arsenal.
Disallowed for offside. A shame
Arteta is going to throw Martinelli into the mix.
Oh - Dalot off the post now. Ramsdale got a touch, as well!
Geez! How did CR7 have an advantage by being a centimeter offside
OH! Nice save by Ramsdale from Dalot off a pass from CR7
Emil Smith Rowed off for Dean Martinelli
Tangerines tie it up in Bedfordshire
McTomain and Gabriel wrestling. Ends fairly quickly
Tavares now booked for obstruction on Elanga. That's not one of their disco moves
BUGGER! Xakha Khan makes it 3-1 with a thunderbolt from long range
One of the Gunners Saka players is down.
He's off for Rob as the Gunners will now be Holding on to their lead.
I'm back after helping Kate out with Breakfast prep - sorry about this result, mate.
Welcome back. Cheers mate
Lindelof booked for a foul from behind
The final roll of the dice from Ralf doesn't really Mata as Bruno comes off. Too little, too late
That Bruno miss seems like the turning point. Now he's replaced by Juan Mata. I'll let you handle the puns, mate.
Gunners dancing like Tavares and Xakha Khan. Like this?
Cottagers at Cherries today, so cherry strudel for brekkies?
Oles from the streets of Alex
Ralf as a consultant? These results show he will get a massive salary for having precious little to offer
I'm sure that Gooner is cock a hoop.
Gooner will be buzzing for a Bees win in the late match
We had a egg on muffin with banana.
It's over at the EM and the Gunners record a comfortable 3-1 win.
Gunners fourth and United in sixth. That will change if the Hammers win at SB tomorrow
That's it - Arsenal have run out 3-1 winners and move into fourth. United stay in sixth.
It'll also change if Spurs can pull one off at the Bees.
That brekkies symbolizes that Steve is going bananas after the win.Thats a great brekkies.
Next up on USA is the clash at the Etihad. Here are the teams:
Citeh: Ederson, Cancelo, Dias, Laporte, Zinchenko, Rodrigo, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Jesus, Grealish, Sterling.
Watford: Foster, Ngakia, Louza, King, Cleverley, Kamara, Sissoko, Samir, Sarr, Dennis, Kabasele
The run-in looks about the same for Citeh and Liverpool. That would mean advantage Citeh.
Back from walkies with Trooper on a warm morning Ready for Citeh vs Hornets. I'm sure you want Citeh to put on a clinic
How was the walkies, mate?
Kick off time at Maine Road.
I'm watching the match on USA. They're off from the Etihad
Walkies went well. Trooper did his business on an unusually warm morning
Zinny Saar did foul a Hornets player .I think the offside flag was raised. A timely offside flag could have prevented an injury
Kevin Friend the ref and Citeh should be Bob's friend today
Wahay! That didn't take long. Jesus taps one in from a great cross by Zinchenko.
1-0!
GOAL! JESUS GIVES CITEH AN EARLY LEAD. LONG CROSS FROM KYLE WALKER MADE IT TO ZINNY AND JESUS EASILY PUT AWAY HIS PASS
Bet you are delighted
Kabesele clears for a Citeh corner
After losing today, Watford will be left with 22 pointa and only five matches left. Maximum 37 points for them.
If Norwich lose to Newcastle today, they'll have a maximum of 36 points.
Absolutely delighted. Every match that these two lose brings them closer to relegation.
Citeh predictably all over the Hornets early on trying to kill off the match.
The Mersey Derby tomorrow is important for you too.
You need a Toon win at CR
Bristol City takes the lead at the already relegated Rams
Oxford takes the lead at Rotherham
Oh - good double save there from Ben Foster to keep Citeh out again.
Double save by Ben Foster
Yes, indeed - come on, the Toon!
Black Cats take the lead vs Cambridge
I also expect a big Liverpool win over Everton tomorrow. My main worry is the Burnley v. Wolves match. Wolves don't have much to play for now.
Canaries behind the Hornets on goal difference. Both seven points from safety
That's a good point. Hoping Wolves devour Burnley
KDB wins another Citeh corner
Salford takes the lead at struggling Oldham in a local Derby
Watford really need to take full advantage of the few chances they're likely to have - and I'm glad that they aren't.
Dennis looks dangerous for the Hornets but not getting much support
2-0! Gabby Jesus powers home a second header from a delicious KDB cross.
GOAL! JESUS HEAFS IN A CROSS FROM KDB TO PUT CITEH TWO UP
Was that cross tastier than brekkies?
That should just about do that with this one. Can't imagine Watford coming back.
I'm sure you want more goals to hurt the Hornets goal difference
That was rather tasty. One touch to settle the ball and then a wicked curler. Just all muscle memory.
Watford now also have inferior GD to us - -34 GD to our -30 GD. Norwich of course have -40.
Real Dons take the lead at Fleetwood Mac in a relegation six pointer. Both a point from safety behind the Gils
Oh my! Kamara have got one back! They were threatening that all along.
Pep grumbling to himself on the bench.
Stevenage on top vs Tranny.Oldham now five points from safety behind Barrow
I hope that we can play like Watford are doing next weekend at Citeh.
