Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Champions' League Wednesday

As with yesterday, I'll be monitoring the Champions' League matches today up until my class time at 4 and then running home later to watch ManYoo and Celtic. Of course, I'll be paying particularly close attention to the Leeds boys hosting the old enemy Roy Keane's Sunderland. Good luck to all of us!

Interesting looking Arsenal side today, without TH-14:

Arsenal: Lehmann, Eboue, Toure, Djourou, Gallas, Hleb, Fabregas, Silva, Rosicky, Van Persie, Adebayor.

Gallas continues at left back, Gilbo and Fabregas will provide the steel in midfield and Van Persie and Adebayor will hope to poke some in. We may also get a chance to see either Theo or new boy Julio Baptista off the bench.

The Leeds boys have Geoff Horsfield back after a lengthy ban due to his rash elbow at Palace a few weeks back.

The Arse have just dodged a bullet with a shot from Hamburg's African striker zipping past the post.

Hurrah! The Arse have an early penalty....

The Hamburg keeper has been sent off too!

And....Gilbo scores for the Gunners! Excellent start with an away goal and Hamburg down to ten.

Lyon have taken an early lead against Real Madrid.

Great crowd noise at the Elland tonight. That can only help. If only we'd played Sunderland during those first few chaotic weeks of the season when they couldn't do any right.

Ian Westlake picks up a yellow for Leeds.

The striker Sanogo has come off for Hamburg in order to allow a sub keeper to come on. That can only be good for the Arse. They should surely be able to see this one through now.

Apparently Van Persie won the penalty with some sublime guile, jinking through some defenders before sending the keeper the wrong way and being felled.

A cuppa? I don't get your drift. Is Kathy serving the tea? I could go for a cuppa - Earl Grey, if you please.

Ah, I notice that it was my lad VENNEGOOR OF HESSELINK who scored the Celtic goal. Excellent name!

Bucharest are now 2-1 up against Kiev.

I could use a goal for us at Elland Rd.

Aren't you watching it? Rio's mistake.
Yes, Kath gave me a lovely cup of tea.

I don't think Giggs dove but he just fell

3:21 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'd take a jammy penalty for Leeds any day. We've had real trouble scoring. Our only two wins so far have come in 1-0 fashion with penalties from David Healey. Pathetic.

3:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Oh no, Giggs is off hurt

3:22 PM

Lovin that score

3:25 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, Liam Miller, who was with us on loan last year. He's a Celtic old boy so has a connection with Keano. He is working some magic. Two wins in a row.

3:26 PM

Too bad, although it irks me that he's sworn off playing for the US national side. As if he's going to get into the Azurri!?

Blogger United We Stand said...

Bob, listen to 606 from tonight.
There is a lot of Leeds talk. I'd like know what you think

5:29 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Damn, Giggs is out for three weeks with a hamstring injury.
Just when we get Scholsey and Rooney back we lose Giggsy

5:38 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Thanks for hanging in there Dave. I listened to 606 on the way home. I can't disagree with the fans who are calling for Blackwell's head. I like the guy, but it's clear that he's lost the team and that they're not playing for him. When that happens, you have to sack the boss. Today's loss drops into the drop zone. That's just no good for a team like Leeds. Expect a move sometime this week.

Nice results for the English teams today. Well done, mate!

What a cracker of a game! I just finished watching Davey's boys in defence do their utmost to make their first match in this year's CL campaign as close a thing as possible. Even so, justice would not have been served if the Celts had won it. Davey's boys managed to rally when necessary and thwarted a team with proven Yernited killer Kenny Miller in the team. I'd have loved to have been there when Rae and Smyth took about 2 minutes to remenisce about Miller's debut goal in the Prem. Care to guess which one it was?

Props! Did you see Saha's missed header? It would have made my top 10 headed goals in recent memory if it had gone in. He was at the edge of the area and he had to direct it completely in the opposite direction. And he did, like a bullet. Very unlucky.

Pants! Just how big a comedian does Vidic have to be to be kept out of the 1st 11 by Brown? If I were Davey's shade of red, I would be incensed if I saw him in a pub wearing a replica kit, much less drawing a salary that a real footballer could be making and living a dream that he doesn't deserve to live. Has Ferguson had a stroke or has his alcoholism reached the dementia stage? Just what is going on? Vennegor of Hesselink just victimized him so badly even Graveson just floated by him ON THE DRIBBLE and nearly scored. It's like watching a bull that's been badly wounded by an unskilled matador. Call Villareal. They bought Pascal Cygan from us so clearly they're no judge of footballing talent either. Davey, ENOUGH. I can't take any more of it. It's inhumane.

Speaking of Ferg, what the hell color do you call his nose these days? Did it die on his face? Disgusting, he should have to wear a bandana over it like Butch Cassidy.

Hah! Loved your comment about hearing about RVP when you could actually see that appalling dive that Giggsy did. After his patented demented dog act he was gifted the softest of penalties ever. The only justice is it looks like the mug pulled a hamstring diving at the lightest of touches from Boruc.

Davey, I'd revel in the fact that Celtic were as good as they can be and maybe better than they really are tonight and United were not nearly as good as they can be. It was clear that whatever Celtic could pull out, United were that one goal better at any time.

Top of the group, sorted no doubt.

Sorry about the Leeds result Bob. I am genuinely surprised at Keano's success.

8:20 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A couple of other comments. Giggs did not get fouled. It was not a penalty but I really don't think he went down because of it. He went down because of his hamstring. You can see that he grabs as soon as he sits up. He didn't dive like Greg Louganus. He just fell down. RVP went down like an elegant swan. I repeat, Giggs was not a dive, he fell over and it was not a penalty

9:30 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Take off the red goggles mate. He pulled his hammy doing one.

It's the same sort of justice being done injury as that Nigerian Chelsea left-back idiot that had the triple back-flip goal celebration who crocked himself doing it in the Charity Shield or some preseason game.

What a plonk! Giggsy that is.

Babayaro! That was that wanker's name. Giggsy did a Celestine!
