Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Euro 2008 Groups

Next summers tournament groups have been picked, and there are some interesting ones.

Group C looks tough with the Dutch, Italy, and France all fighting for top and and runners-up.
Group B looks interesting because Germany plays Poland and you know how that's going to be played in the press.
And you'd be temped to have a fiver on Portugal and Spain to top their groups.

Of course, it's sad to see a draw without England - or any British teams - in it. The eye immediately goes to Russia in Group D, where we would've been but for that last goal by the Croats. Would we have got out of that group? Not with McClaren but with a decent manager, I'm confident that we could have finished second behind Spain.

Group C is certainly the Group of Death and Group B is the weakest. Here are my picks to get out of the groups:

Group A - Portugal and Czechs
Group B - Germany and Croatia
Group C - Italy and France
Group D - Spain and Greece

Thanks for the posting, Gooner!

So, apparently the FA has announced a so-called "Gang of Four" candidates that they're looking at for the England manager's job. They are:

1. Jose Mourinho
2. Fabio Capello
3. Jurgen Klinsmann
4. An unnamed candidate - Lippi?

Who's your choice?

Of those 4? Capello. Proven winner, but he'd probably end up making it a very boring side.

So would Mourinho but he wouldn't be boring.

Klinsi would be fun but I think the job's beyond his modest managerial talent.

My first choice is still O'Neill because I think he could make the hard choices, keep the players motivated and controlled and he wouldn't be afraid to make them play a bit.

I'm pulling for Mourinho because he's a proven winner and would compel the respect of the big egos in the England dressing room. That was the main deficit with McClaren, IMHO.
