We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
MLS Cup Final 2011 Live!
It's the capper on another successful MLS season and it may be David Beckham's swan-song in this country. The Home Depot Center venue must favor the Galaxy but Brian Ching's Dynamo side won't be push-overs. They've both been here before - join me on ESPN from 9pm onward for the festivities.

The team news out of the Home Depot Center tonight:
Galaxy - Saunders, Franklin, Gonzalez, DeLaGarza, Dunivant, Donovan, Juninho, Beckham, Magee, Cristman, Keane.
Dynamo - Hall, Taylor, Cameron, Boswell, Hainault, Ashe, Moffat, Camargo, Cruz, Ching, Carr.
Good evening everyone. It is interesting that the Galaxy are the home at a supposedly neutral venue.
I wonder if the match will be fixed so that Beckham lifts the trophy in front of his home fans.
Apparently it's been raining on day in LA so the pitch will likely be a right bog.
It will suit Beckham and Keane for sure. The interview with Beckham: Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah
Evening, MUR! I think your conspiracy theories are right on the mark. The narrative seems to have been already written with the trophy in Beckham's hands at the end of the match.
Good evening BD. Great to be chatting with you after chatting this morning.
I will definitely miss FSC's interview with Sepp Bladder. I would vomit my anniversary dinner if subjected to his vile comments.
I agree with Taylor Twellman that MLS is selling out in other markets when Beckham is not in town. He is not the only show in town. We need SAF to give a boot to the eye.
A cup final and qualifying for Euro 2012 is quite a week for Robbie Keane. He missed most of training with the Galaxy while he was away on international duty.
I don't see the point of an interview with Sepp Blatter - I only want to see his resignation.
I second that. I am now calling him Bladder.
Do you think AVB has joined Mick, Roberto, and Steve Keane in the sack race?
No - I think Steve, Roberto and Owen Coyle are the favorites for the sack race.
I saw an interesting post on facebook about UWS' older brother, Mike. It stated that he is now in Madamme Tussauds. Is that information correct?
Big Red clearly has too much at stake in tonight's match to be a neutral observer. He's the one who most gambled on bringing Goldenballs to America and he still wants to be validated.
I wouldn't be surprised if Johnny Hates Jazz is in Madame Tussaud's in London in a sort of Big 80s pop hall of fame. They were huge in the UK.
I think I have the TV because the American Music Awards are on in place of Desperate Housewives.
No love for Taylor Swift in your house?
Mike did get a specific mention by an LHS Alum. Well deserved, IMHO!
None at all for Taylor!
It will be an Anniversary Cup Final and I would love to see a Dynamo win.
It sounds like LA's Juninho is a bit of a water carrier. There seem to be about 18 Brazilians playing who carry that name.
I'm pulling for Houston as well, just to monkey with the MLS bosses. It's so clear that they're desperate for a Galaxy win.
LA to get us underway here.
If it is a Cup final then both teams should be allotted an equal number of tickets. It appears the Galaxy have about 80% of the fans in attendance as the match kicks off.
This MLS ball is really difficult to follow - is it green? It's definitely close to the turf color.
It looks like a marble. I see what you are saying.
Keane has been tackled twice. Great defending by the Dynamo.
Clumsy by Cristman on Moffatt.
Hainnault with a nice physical foul on Landy.
The long free kick is too high for everyone.
Carr wins a dynamo corner.
It was actually a free kick that was headed across the face of the Galaxy goal.
Cory Ashe goes on a nice run , but was greedy and shot tamely at Saunders.
A great run by Landy leads to a Franklin shot deflected for a corner, then Cristman heads wide with a free header from a corner.
Oh - Cristman misses a sitter!
Boswell goes into the book for an obvious hand ball. These types of mistakes are not needed in a final.
Another Galaxy corner, this time conceded by Jermaine Taylor.
The Dynamo struggle to clear the corner as the Galaxy start to take control.
If my eyesight is not deceiving, then it is beginning to rain again in Southern California.
Ian mentioned the draw for the Euros. Is that this Friday?
Is it this Friday. I'll be on pins and needles for England.
Useless cross by Hainnault to ruin a great Dynamo possession.
I will check Wikkipaedia at the half. It is on A Friday, but I don't know which Friday.
The draw is Friday December 2nd Noon Eastern at The Place of Arts in Kiev. Will you be on pins and needles for the Irish too? :0)
Poor stuff again from Cristman.
It is definitely raining. It will be like home for Beckham and Keane.
Yes . Cristman needs heading practice.
How many chances does Cristman need?
A hat-trick of comic mishaps from Cristman. will the Dynamo leave him wide open, knowing he can't finish.
Did you see my comment stating the date of the draw in Kiev?
Camargo was obviously fouled just outside the box, but the Dynamo can't buy a break.
The Galaxy can't finish or cross.
I am pleased . Vacation and extra kip on football Saturday. What more can a footie fan ask for?
Omar Gonzalez is down after an elbow from Ching. It seemed accidental, IMHO.
Mike Magee shoots well wide after the Dynamo keeper struggles to punch a cross clear.
I saw it, yes. I'll only be on pins and needles for England. I'm happy that the Irish are there this time but I've got got so much mojo. They're on their own.
I just called for a sub , so I will join you for Spurs vs Villa tomorrow.
This game needs a goal!
Well done, mate. Are you feeling okay?
Did I tell what I want for my birthday?
Yes. I am using up a couple of days this week so I can have the whole week off. Thank you for asking.
we now learned that Cristman completed can't tackle, shoot , or pass as he booked for a very late challenge. The hat-trick of incompetence.
Robbo wins a Galaxy corner.
Hall catches the Galaxy corner.
Cruz shoots at Josh Sunders with a decent long range effort.
Now it's Magee blasting over the top.
Now Magee gets in on the act as Keane does well to set him up, but Magee shoots miles over.
One minute of stoppage time.
Halftime and 0-0 from the Home Depot Center in the MLS Cup Final.
So what does MUR want for his birthday present after victory in South Wales and a Chelski loss at the Bridge were the Anniversary presents? Any guesses?
If Garber wants MLS to be one of the top leagues in the world then he should resign and be replaced by a decent commissioner. The complete structure of the league must be changed too.
I do agree with Garber's zero tolerance toward racism. He stated what Bladder should have stated. we weren't looking for a fancy speech.
The second half is underway from the Home Depot Center.
The Galaxy have won the last eighteen games when they have been level at halftime. Not exactly the stat I was wanting to hear.
Well wide by Moffatt with that long range effort for the Dynamo.
OH!!! Just wide by Robbo as he was put through with the best chance of the match.
It's getting rather scrappy and it seems as if a single goal will decide this final.
WOW!!! Robbo has a goal disallowed for offside after being superbly set up by Beckham. The replay showed he was onside and relief for Hall, the dynamo keeper as he let that shot go through his legs.
It was a real howler by Hall, who would have felt horrible.
Galaxy fans moan as the Dynamo keep possession. Then Keane dipossesses Boswell, but is closed down three defenders. Beckham has a shot deflected for a corner.
Harkes is correct . Carlos Costly could be an important sub off the bench for the Galaxy.
OOH! Moffatt headed just wide from a cross.
Costly is now on for the Dynamo as expected.
Cameron clears as Keane crossed and no Galaxy players were there to connect.
GOAL!!! 1-0 GALAXY AS LANDY SCORES WITH A SUPERB FINISH AFTER A SUPERB RUN AND PASS BY ROBBO.
will this be the winning goal in MLS CUP 2011?
Nice goal there for Landycakes. Well deserved.
Cruz concedes a foul just outside the box for climbing on Magee and is booked rather harshly for that challenge.
I agree. The Galaxy have been the better team.
A horrible free kick from Beckham into the wall. He's better than that.
So much for 0-0 and seventeen overtimes.
Boswell cheaply concedes possession to Landy who runs at the Dynamo defense and shoots right at Hall.
Keane is offside as he was put through for another Galaxy chance.
Keane goes on another run ,but his cross goes across the box.
Beckham looks shagged .
The Euro draw is definitely Friday December 2nd. it has bee confirmed by Ian Darke.
The dynamo make another change as Watson is on for Cory Ashe.
Saunders makes a hash of the cross, which is deflected for a corner.what a waste as the corner goes out of play.
Hainnault fouls Beckham and could have seen his second yellow for that challenge.
There will be three minutes of stoppage time as we are about to enter stoppage time.
Hall does well to push over that free kick from Beckham in the final minute of stoppage time.
Landy is booked for time wasting.
LA wins - the grand MLS narrative has been served.
That's it as the Galaxy defeat the Dynamo 1-0 in the MLS Cup Final.
I guess the better team won. would it have been different if the Dynamo had been more adventurous.
Now they are describing the script. Last Year , MLS Cup Final at Home , Blah , blah, blah....
I'm not how much of this blah, blah interviewing I can take. Retch.
I agree 100%. I wish they would lift the trophy. That's what they do everywhere else.
Don Gabber with more BLAH BLAH BLAH! JUST LIFT THE TROPHY!
Finally Landy and the Galaxy Pres lift the trophy. Queen's We Are The Champions is played on the Home Depot Center PA.
After watching , I am looking forward to Spurs vs Villa tomorrow and some real football.
It was great chatting with you, BD. I hope to enjoy the pleasure of your company tomorrow as Spurs host Villa.
CHEERS!
Cheerio, mate - looking forward to chatting with you tomorrow.
Hey Guys,
I watched most of the second half with the boys
Where is the quality???
I think I was rooting for Becks
I thought it being held in LA was just a coincidence but it is by design. The team with the highest seed host... STUPID... IT IS A CUP FINAL!!!
I was going to join you guys today for the Spurs match but I have to go to a memorial service for my cousins' husband
