A Very Super Sunday
Let's be honest - yesterday was a bit rubbish in the Premiership, with two of the Championship favorites struggling their way to unconvincing 1-0 wins. I'm hoping for much better from what promises to be a very super Sunday. It all starts in moments with the Merseyside Derby, still one of the most important matches of the season. This year it has added spice with Everton flying high and Brendan Rogers and Liverpool under fire. Then it's all eyes at the top of the table as Manchester United travel to Stamford Bridge to meet the league leaders. Join me if you like football at all.

Morning, chaps - it looks as if I've been punked again by the shifting of daylight savings time in the UK. The first match will start at 9:30 rather than 8:30 GMT.
Right then, here is the team news out of Goodison:
Everton (4-4-2): Howard; Baines, Jagielka, Distin, Neville; Coleman,
Osman, Fellaini, Mirallas; Jelavic, Naismith.
Subs: Mucha, Heitinga, Hibbert, Oviedo, Hitzlsperger, Gueye, Vellios.
Liverpool (4-3-3): Jones; Wisdom, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique; Allen, Sahin, Gerrard;
Suso, Suarez, Sterling.
Subs: Reina, Carragher, Shelvey, Coates, Downing, Henderson, Assaidi.

Good morning, BD. I definitely hope it's a very Super Sunday after yesterday
Everton enter this match in 5th and could actually leapfrog Arsenal into a CL slot with a draw or a win. Liverpool, in contrast, sit in lowly 13th and would drop even further with a loss.
Morning, MUR - an extra hour of sleep for you this morning, I hope.
I did. Hopefully, you got some much needed extra kip. I feel well rested. How about you?
I'm predicting a Toffees win today, putting more pressure on Brendan Rogers.
Feeling pretty good - I had a quiet night in for a change last night. Good night's sleep.
They're off from Goodison park. Not bad for an opening act and immediately Jose Enrique heads out for a corner.
Good, quick start for the Toffees with Jelavic getting in behind. Looked for Naismith at the backpost.
Oh - and then Liverpool breaks quickly. Sterling could have been found but Enrique didn't do it. Great opening!
The corner from Baines is headed out , then Liverpool counter, but the through ball from Enrique was poor.
As I stated this is the opening act and Chelsea vs United is the actual show.
It strikes me that as Gerrard ages, he's dropping deeper and deeper. I'm not sure that's the solution.
This is merely the amuse bouche of footing contests. Chelski v. ManYoo is the entree.
Jags clears for a corner, under pressure from Suarez. The corner is cleared for another
Poor cross from Sahin after a corner from Gerrard was headed away
I agree with you about the later match being the entree and abut Rodgers being under fire.
In terms of Gerrard dropping deeper, I think that has been a common trend with aging players, even when we were in high school.
I remember Ruud Gullit did it at Chelski. He seemed to be more effective in that role.
Rangers lead 0-1 at Clyde at the half in yet another Glasgow Derby as they look for their first away win of the season despite topping the table in their division.
Mirallis has a cross deflected off if Agger for a corner.
Liverpool and Brad Jones really under the cosh right now - this is what I'd expected.
A teasing corner is punched away by Brad Jones for another
A really long corner from Baines and Jelavic is unablle to head it back across.
I expect a fairly even match and end to end stuff with lots of cards.
Good point about Gullit. This prolongs players' careers as this limits the wear on tear on their legs, muscles, etc.
A crunching tackle by Jags on Stevie G. I expect more of that than shots on goal.
In case you are wondering there is also Newcastle vs West Brom in the battle of black and white striped teams and Sotton vs Spuds.
GOAL! Blimey - Liverpool have taken the lead through Suarez!
GOAL!!!! LIVERPOOL TAKE THE LEAD THROUGH SUAREZ. A SCRAPPY GOAL, BUT THEY ALL COUNT.
It was all down to Suso there who picked up a short ball from Gerrard and found Enrique. Great ball over that Sterling couldn't get to. It might actually be a Baines o.g. in the end but Suarez does a Klinsmann dive in celebration!
0-1 Liverpool!
Stevie G did well to put JJose Enrique down the left, his cross was not cleared, and Suarez shot, but it appears to have gone off of Baines for an OG. Lucky, IMHO
It looks like we agreed on the goal.
Liverpool are full of confidence now. Osman gets a yellow card as Sterling dives with no contact at all!
Not sure why Leon Osman is complaining as he tripped up Sterling from Behind and is booked as he had been warned by Andre Marriner.
0-2 Liverpool - this time it is Suarez!!!
Free header for Suarez as Gerrard whipped it into the danger area. No chance for Timmy.
BLY ME!!! SUAREZ PUTS THE REDS TWO UP!!SUAREZ DID WELL TO GLANCE THE FREE KICK FROM STEVIE IN THE CORNER
Fellaini nearly responded immediately but his shot was deflected out.
Now Fellani has a shot deflected inches wide.
GOAL! And now they have! Osman with a raking drive from the corner.
1-2! We have a cracker on our hands!
BLOODY HELL!!! BRAD JONES FUMBLED THE CORNER FROM BAINES AND OSMAN SHOT THROUGH A CROWD OF PLAYERS JUST OUTSIDE THE AREA AND IT'S 2-1.
There must have been about 90 seconds between the goals
This is not one for the purists - very direct, lots of long balls.
Now the momentum is back with the Toffees. Skrtel heads out for a corner.
Would you Adam n Eve it.... I overslept!
I turn on the TV and see it is two nil already!!
I did see the Toffees get their goal
Skrtel heads out a teasing cross for a corner. It could have gone any where. The corner is played short and Jones fumbled another cross, but Distin is called for a foul. I didn't see much ion the challenge.
Suarez almost scores again!
Oh - great stuff from Suarez, collecting a ball from a simple throw, swerving around it and firing a quick shot that troubled Timmy.
Good morning, UWS. It's a cracker!
Just wide by Suarez as he turned and made space off the throw,.
Morning, RVW - are you hung over from last night?
Nice run and pass by Jelavc, but Hair Bear couldn't control the pass.
Don't know why I slept so long
Great question, BD. I am wondering too.
Sterling goes into the book for a hack on Baines.
It's almost 10 AM in Glenville.I had to be up by 8:15
OH! A cross from Mirallis intended for fellow Belgian, Hair Bear is just too high. If they come from behind they can celebrate with some Blue Moons.
Did they show this on the TV
GOAL - Everton 0-1 Liverpool - Leighton Baines OG (14 mins)
And a theatrical dive in front of the Everton dugout to celebrate from Luis Suarez for added spice. An icy stare from David Moyes, who asked referee Andre Marriner to look out for any diving before the match, greets the Uruguayan's celebration.
Mirallis receives a lecture from Andre Marriner
Sterling goes in hard again and he's riding his luck now.
Yeah - you saw the whole Klinsmann style celebration. Somehow Suarez isn't as good-natured as Klinsy, so it doesn't come off the same.
They did not show that. Now Sterling recieves a lecture as he has been booked and has committed another rash challenge. Poor by Everton players trying to get him sent off.
I did not see the scene by the Everton dugout.Great observation, UWS.
The rain is falling in Merseyside as it will most of the week up in the Northeast.
IT'S DESMOND
WHAT A MATCH
Desmond! It's Naismith at the back post.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
DESMOND AS NAISMITH SCORES FROM TWO YARDS OUT OFF A PASS FROM HAIR BEAR. IT ALL STARTED FROM THE LIVERPOOL BOX.
Great match for ESPN to have
Agreed. Will this be better than the 4-4 draw back in 1991?
Hair Bear did the damage there picking up a ball behind him from Baines, turning well and cross into the danger area. Either Jelavic or Naismith could have tucked that in. Liverpool defense went to sleep.
Agreed, UWS. A classic Derby match
I read your comments from yesterday's post.. pretty funny!
I did put a comment on when I got home
I did not see it because I saw the same number of comments as when I signed off. I will have to read it,
Oh - Mirallis breezed by the youngster and fired a cross/shot over. Jones tipped around.
The Belgians combined and Jones deflected a cross from Miralis for a corner. The corner from Baines is cleared
There looks like a goal coming every time both clubs attack!
To answer your statement , UWS. Citeh vs Swansea was one of the most dreadful matches ever televised , then they had the gall to add twelve minutes of stoppage time. We had to do something to stay tuned in.

Suarez leaves his foot in there on Mirallas. No yellow, strangely.
Suarez fouls the dangerous Miralis just outside the box.
A young lad shows a red card. Great sense of humor!
The free kick from Baines is headed away and a foul is called.
Everton look like the only side likely to win this match
More great work from Mirallas but now he's down in need of treatment.
Nice turn by Miralis and he wins another corner.
Great turn by Meralles
Yes. He'd down injured as Skrtel heads out for another corner
The corner from Baines is headed out and Coleman shoots just over from outside the box.
3 added minutes
Three minutes of stoppage time as Miralis is called for a foul
Now the Little Neviller is booked for a dive. well done, ref!
A half volley from Stevie G is well over as Liverpool kept possession down the right
Oh - Naismith nearly nicked that one off Skrtel for a late, late chance.
Half-time: Phew!
Half time
Great half of half that I saw!
Halftime and Desmond at Goodison. I predict that Everton will win this
I wonder where Someone is. He must surely by watching this one.
Suarez should have been booked that celebration I just saw... that is worse than going for hug with the fans
Rangers are two up at Clyde
Second half has begun
The second half is under way and there are a raft of substitutions to bring you up to date with. Sebastian Coates and Jonjo Shelvey are on for Suso and Andre Wisdom for Liverpool.
Everton replace Kevin Mirallas, who was struggling, with Magaye Gueye up front.
I'm just back in time to see Raheem Sterling fluff his lines. Sparky would have scored that, eh MUR?
What a miss by Sterling!
Oh - Jelavic works his way into the box and fires at Jones. Then Skrtel catches Baines on the rebound. Should have been a pen. It's all happening!
Back for the second half and missed that miss from Sterling , but saw action at the other end.Sparky doesn't miss sitters. He lifts his legs at every opportunity

Not sure why Suso was subbed as he looked the only scoring threat, but understand Coates coming on for young Wisdom, who looked none too wise. Mirallis will be a huge loss for the Toffees.
Sterling seems to be the outlet every time for Liverpool. His pace gets him into great positions but his final ball isn't always the best. He is young, though.
Rangers look set to go top of the pops, two points clear of Elgin City
I agree with you about Sterling. Why was Suso subbed?
I missed that with Suso's substitution. I thought he was good too.
Rangers have won 0-2 at Clyde. Their first away win of the season and now top of the Scottish Third by two points.
Suarez claims a handball
Suarez claims a handball there as he drives the ball over. He really is a villain.
UWS posted that Coates and Shelvey were on for Wisdom and Suso.Shelvey for Suso is and odd one.
Jags gets a foul for a foul on Sterling. Might have been red for last man back really.
Suarez is on . He was never subbed.
Suarez is on . He was never subbed.
Great save by Timmy from Gerrard's free kick. You can't take your eyes off this one.
Great save by Timmy off the free kick from Stevie G.
Agreed. Probably the best Merseyside Derby since the FA Cup 4th Round replay in 1991 that finished 4-4.
Agreed. Probably the best Merseyside Derby since the FA Cup 4th Round replay in 1991 that finished 4-4.
Headed wide by Hair Bear off a cross from Coleman
Oh - Jelavic was inches away from converting that Coleman cross.
OH! Jelavic failed to connect from the cross by Coleman and the Reds clear
Nice one two and Coleman crosses while maybe he should have shot
Miles wide by Leon Osman
King Kenny resigned the next day
Two EPL matches kick off in about ten minutes.
True, UWS. I completely forgot about that. Will Brendan do the same tomorrow??? That is the million Pound question.
Nasty by Coates on Jelavic. That should have been booking,.
Jelavic heads well wide from the free kick by Baines.
Lauren Moyes, daughter of the Everton manager, tweets (which has now been deleted): "Very surprised my dad didn't just nut Suarez."
Then: "Sorry if that last tweet offended anyone. Caught up in the moment."
Simon in Liverpool on 81111 on text: "Some people need to get a sense of humour. Remember Jurgen Klinsman doing it at spurs? Hilarious then but Suarez does it and he's a disgrace?"
Again - Jurgen was a likeable character while Suarez is a pantomime villain.
Definitely a foul by Joe Allen on Coleman outside the box.Allen needs to keep his composure.
Oh - Jelavic should have scored with the header. Wow!
Headed wide by Jelavic off the free kick by Baines. That should have made it on target
Coates is riding his luck. Surely, the next foul should be a booking,
Naughty by Lauren and a lame excuse by Simon.
This half hasn't been as good as the first
That "You Know What You Are" song aimed at Suarez is getting a bit old now. Fans need to move on at this point.
Useless free kick by Baines
Agger booked for a barge on Hair Bear. Was that any worse than the ones by Coates?
As Ian Darke said earlier... they don't boo bad players
Yes - but would you say that if Sterling, Jelavic and co had converted their chances.
Henderson coming on....why?
I agree with both comment, BD and UWS
I agree with both comment, BD and UWS
Hernderson on for young wisdom, who seemed out of his depth.None too wise!
Suarez picks up a yellow for a silly Achilles scrape. Could have been red.
Cynical by Suarez on Distin. A booking , but Toffees fans wanted red. A booking is the correct decision.
Nasty tackle by aforementioned
Macca says accidental; I say intentional
I prefer - "He cheats, he dives - he hates the Jackson 5 - Luis Suarez!" More witty.
Typical Henderson - had a chance to cross and didn't. In the end, a rubbish ball that Timmy flatters by tipping over.
15 minutes to go... will there be a winner???
The action is under way at BOTH Saints!
St. James' Park and St. Mary's
I'm surprised that we still have 11 v. 11 given the atmosphere. The ref has done a reasonable job.
Not a good decision from Jon Jo there
Liverpool players trying to get Hair Bear booked now.
Hair Bear should have gotten a yellow in today's world
Suarez slips on a break
Coates is really trying to buy a card. Nothing yet. wow!
Nicely worked free kick routine there. Baines at the end of it - Skrtel did well to block it out.
Oh - great block by Jags from that Gerrard drive.
Gerrard almost scores... Henderson does well to win the ball and keep it in
A bit of blatant ballhoggery there from Suarez. That won't endear him to his teammates.
Someone's thrown a coin at Suarez now. That's not on.
I don't think there was an obvious pass for Suarez to make
Did they say they were throwing coins? Did Suarez put one in his sock?
I am back and see that it's still Desmond . A late winner?
I am back and see that it's still Desmond . A late winner?
He did put the coin in his shoe!
BREAKING CHELSEA TEAM NEWS
Chelsea are unchanged from the team that won 4-2 at Tottenham with David Luiz and Gary Cahill at the back in place of suspended captain John Terry .
Oviedo, the Costa Rican international, is on for Naismith
Oviedo, the Costa Rican international, is on for Naismith
BREAKING MAN UTD TEAM NEWS
Midfielders Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young start for Manchester United.
Pat Nevin, at Stamford Bridge for BBC Radio 5 live
"Well done Sir Alex Ferguson. He has put an attacking side out, and we could have one hell of a game today."
That should be another cracker. A repeat of that three goal comeback. More of the same , but take away those Chelsea goals.
Gareth Bale has scored for Spurs
I like those changes and agree with Pat Nevin. I hope Ashley Young starts showing us the form that caused us to sign him from Villa.
Bale scores against his old club
Just like the Ox and Theo did
Bale at the club where he started his career.
Useless free kick from Stevie G. This look destined to finish Desmond.
Useless free kick from Stevie G. This look destined to finish Desmond.
Stevie G dribbled and ran it out of play
Shame there were no goals in this second half
Phil Dowd shows four minutes of stoppage time.
Agreed, UWS, but better than the rubbish we watched yesterday
How can the Prem afford to have regular refs be a fourth official.. are there that many to spread around?
Luckily wasn't around to see them
A poor cross from Oviedo is chested back to Jones by Enrique
To be fair, most people score against the Saints. They are rubbish. -13 GD now.
Correct, UWS. The match at Herkimer, the eight time national champs , was probably better than any we had to endure, including twelve bloody stoppage time minutes.
United scored three but boy did we sweat!!!
Agreed. They are all but relegated.
GOAL... no... offside!!!
GOAL! Suarez is celebrating, but no...it hasn't been given. What will Alan Green have to say about that?
