Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Morning Boys
I am up early this morning to follow the first kick off of the day. It will be the only one that I can follow. I will be leaving around 10:15 for Tom's game.
Text updates will be needed... thank you
The match isn't on ESPN but FSC
Arsenal QPR follow and then Citeh take on Swansea
FSC just said the Chelsea United game will be on at Noon tomorrow. Has there been a clock change over there?
Just checked and saw that the Merseyside derby is on on at 9:30 a.m.
So... the clock change must happen tonight in Blighty
This match, of course, is the match that a lot of us were trapped in violence behind the goal. Of course, it was at Carrow Road and not Villa Park
Teams are coming out of the tunnel
Another subplot, Lambert taking on his old club... it was a nasty break up
LINE-UPS- Aston Villa v Norwich (12:45 BST)

#17 hosts #15
Away we go
Good morning UWS. I will provide text updates. Correct about the time change in Blighty.I am proud of Tom and his team and hope they continue advancing.
They're off from Carrow Road.
Fall has finally began here yesterday
I see that Leeds host a struggling Birmingham today
A home win is a must
So we start with the return of Paul Lambert to Carrow Road.
Agreed. That could possibly move them up to a playoff position.
I thought it started in November but I guess it just a little early this year... the yellow ball has made it debut this season
I saw that Bob is skipping this match.I know he went to see Rush in concert last night and as someone who saw then twenty years ago, who knows what caused him to sleep soundly last night.
The time change is tomorrow in Europe and ours nest weekend, so we can get an extra hour of kip tomorrow.
The time change is tomorrow in Europe and ours nest weekend, so we can get an extra hour of kip tomorrow.
A poor , tame shot by Brett Holman after a great build up by Villa.
If Norwich play like they did last week then it will be a long 90 minutes for Villa.
If Norwich play like they did last week then it will be a long 90 minutes for Villa.
The likes of Darren Bent and Stephen Ireland are on the bench when they could be rather useful in a relegation dogfight.
Morning MUR
shhhh don't tell anyone but Tom doesn't want to keep going. He really wants to go to Charlotte in November with me and it is the weekend of the National Championship
Thanks for the text updates
Will do, UWS. I thought you were going to be in Charlotte in late December and early January
So far, I can see why Bob is getting extra kip. This has been an absolutely dreadful match
I just looked and all the good EPL matches are tomorrow.
Finally some action as Beneteke wins a free kick just outside the box.
The free kick from Albrighton was easily headed away
Sorry, I have been busy with emails to me bros
How are they doing?
Little in the way of incident? How about little in the way of curing Bloody insomnia?
Yes and No
We may be going to Charlotte over the New Year but that would be the whole family by car
In November, Tom and I would be flying down for the weekend to see the Broncos, Tom's favorite team, play the Panthers. We would also see the Bobcats take on the Mavericks on the Saturday night
Great save by Guzan for a corner off Hoolihan off a long goal kick by Ruddy. The corner is cleared. Best chance of the match
Sounds like a lot of fun. If you are not going in January then you are definitely invited for the mini reunion in January.
They're doing fine
Apparently, Mike has finished the album. Look for the Johnny Hates Jazz songs to come
There is news that Fergie wants Cashley when he runs out his contract.. I don' want him
Will do. Am looking forward to it.
Me either. Send him to ER!
ONE NIL VILLA!!
Against the run of play!
A header from a narrow angle is easily saved by Guzan.
GOAL !!! 0-1 VILLA AS THEY SCORE WITH THEIR FIRST SHOT OF THE MATCH AS BENETEKE SCORES HIS FIRST EVER VILLA GOAL
It was definitely against the run of play and seconds after Guzan saved from Holt.Villa went straight up the pitch and a great pass from Holman was finished by Beneteke.
It was definitely against the run of play and seconds after Guzan saved from Holt.Villa went straight up the pitch and a great pass from Holman was finished by Beneteke.
A series of Norwich free kicks. Joe Bennett was booked for a foul on Tette. The free kick was cleared. Now a better chance for the Canaries. This one was headed wide by Russell Martin.
So far, a happy return to Carrow Road for Paul Lambert in this relegation six pointer. I thought Norwich would move forward after that fantastic win vs Arsenal.
Villa counter off a poor Norwich cross then Villa go straight up the pitch and are equally guilty
This match has come to life since the goal.
A mistake by Yours Truly. The match is at Villa Park, not Carrow Road.Villa would be expected to be ahead as they are at home.
Tette fouls D'Elf in midfield.
Benetek has a shot blocked for a corner after a superb cross field pass by Delph.
The corner is cleared and Norwich attack through Pilkington. They retain possession.
Several blocked shots , then young Chris Herd blocks a shot by Grant Holt that could have tied it up.
A poor shot by Grant Holt goes out for a throw after a spell of Norwich pressure that started with a counter off a Villa corner.

Bradley Johnson concedes a free kick.
Bneteke heads down a long free kick from Albrighton and it is easily caught by Ruddy,
Bneteke heads down a long free kick from Albrighton and it is easily caught by Ruddy,
One minute of stoppage time.
Halftime and 1-0 to Villa. A little harsh n the Canaries, but Chris Hughton will want to address the fact that they cheaply conceded possession on a regular basis.
Sorry I was AWOL.
I was getting ready for the trip
The trip today or the trip to Charlotte?
Today!
We have leave at 10:15 and Matt and Jon are staying home so we are getting stuff ready for them
We come home and then we have to go to Matt's playoff game tonight at 7
wishing the best on your trip. Hope all goes well! Sounds like our weekend two weeks ago when we went to a wedding on last minute notice. It was a three and a half hour drive.
Teams out on the Villa Park pitch for the second half
As Stef Dosedel would say...
ON THE BALL CITY
NEVER MIND THE DANGER!!
A halftime change as Ryan Benett has come on. The second half is underway from Villa Park
Great advice from Stef!
20 premier league points in 2012 for Villa.
The fewest of any team.. including Bolton that don't play in the league any more
Villa attack from the off and Ruddy saves a header from Beneteke off a great cross from Albrighton. Ryan Bennett came on for Russell Martin
Joe Bennett has a cross cleared for a Villa corner.
The corner is easily caught by Ruddy.
A horrible Villa record, UWS. Definitely relegation form. Most of that poor form occurred when McLeish was in charge as Villa have improved since Paul Lambert took over.
Bennet gets a second yellow and is off!
Not much to get a booking
Villa down to ten men as Joe Bennett receives a second yellow for holding back his Elliott Bennett to halt an attack. Phil Dowd didn't have much of a choice.
Struth.. strange save by Guzan from that cross
Guzan easily caught the free kick. A great chance for the Canaries to get back into the match. I am sure Paul Lambert will replace an attacker witha defender and does so as Eric Lichaj, the young Yank, is on for Gabby Agobon.
I saw that change coming as Paul Lambert will be happy to hold on to a 1-0 win.
Now Darren Bent is warming up. Why bring on an attacker if you just replaced one with a defender.
Sorry... off to the loo
Great cross from Elliott Bennett as Holt was just beaten to a header, but the flag was raised for offside,.
I did that at halftime. We are back to full fitness on the LOB.
I did that at halftime. We are back to full fitness on the LOB.
Poor cross by Garrido to Guzan. His crossing has been awful today
Now Chris Herd is booked for cumulative infractions.
Great save by Guzan from Holt off a superb pass from Hoolihan. It all started with a poor Villa clearance off a pass from Pilkington.
The corner is cleared after shaky Villa defending.
Dragged well wide by Bradley Johnson after the Canaries won back possession.
A few minutes earlier Snoddy came on for Elliott Bennett as we are down to Bennetts , but up several Ex Leeds players. The former ER players on the pitch are Snoddy, Bradley Johnson , and Fabian Delph, and Eric Lichaj. Barry Bannon not on the pitch.
The Bennetts have come and gone. Ellioot was replaced by Snoddy, Joe was sent off while Ryan cam on at the half for Russell Martin.
Bent is on for Beneteke. Neither is a Bennett , but they sound awfully similar.
Steve Morison is on for Bradley Johnson as that is one less former Leeds player on the pitch.
Great turn by Hoolihan and Herd does well to head out for a corner. Snoddy had a shot blocked off the corner.
Norwich win another corner. Guzan fists this one away and Norwich retain possession. Pilkington is called for a foul on Guzan off a cros.s.
Naughty by El Ahmedy on Hoolihan in midfield.
Another great tackle by Chris Herd and another Norwich corner.Andres Weimann is on for Brett Holman
It was actually a goal kick
OH! Grant Holt was through on goal and Guzan blocked with his legs
All Norwich as they clear away two crosseds by Snoddy
I am back just a Norwich tie it up!
Great block by Vlaar from Snoddy.
Great glancing header there
Can Norwich go on to get a deserved win
GOAL!!! 1-1 aS cHRIS TURNER SCORES HIS FIRST FOR NORWICH WITH A HEADER OFF A CROSS FROM SNODDY OFF A SHORT CORNER FROM HOOLIHAN
This was coming as Norwich had been pressing since the sending off.
Another Norwich attack is desperately cleared. Now a Villa player is down
Even before the man advantage, Norwich were the better team
True, UWS. I thought they were unlucky to be trailing at the half.A loss would have been harsh for the Canaries.
Pilkington wins a Norwich corner.
Horrible corner from Plkington eludes everyone.
A rare Villa attack, now Norwich counter and they win another corner.
The corner from Snoddy is headed away and Delp fouls Hooolihan just outside the box.
A horrible free kick from Snoddy is too high for everyone.
A horrible free kick from Snoddy is too high for everyone.
Four minutes of stoppage time.
This one looks destined to end in a draw.
Tough fixtures coming up for the Villa
They do go to Sunderland before they host United, visit Citeh and host Arsenal
Useless shot there!!
Great run down the left by Morison as the cross was not properly headed away and Ryan Bennett shot well over from close range. Probably the last chance of the match
That is Villa were looking for a win.
Now Bassong is down after a collisssion
Get it over NORWICH!!!
OH! headed on to the roof of the net by Snoddy and that should about do it.
Hiya lads - I've just enjoyed reading your comments about the opening match.
Happy 20th birthday to Tom - I hope he gets a birthday hat-trick against Herkimer - never even 'eard of 'em!
That's it as it finishes 1-1. Norwich deservedly equalized and really should have won at Villa Park.
Moyes is taking on his FIFTH Liverpool manager tomorrow!!!
Game over and it ends in a 1-1 draw
I am off for walkies and then leave for Tom's game
Thanks in advanced for the texts
Good morning, RVW! I did not realize that Tom turned the big two oh. Happy Birthday, Tom!
Cheers, UWS> Texts will be provided.
Thanks BD
Take care boys
Cheers, mate. I'm enjoying a lovely toasted bagel and coffee now. As you mentioned, MUR, Leeds take on woeful Birmingham today. Three points a must!
So Norwich and Villa have finished at 1-1, just about assuring that both will be in danger at the end of the weekend. Whenever you see two relegation threatened sides that fail to get points from each other, you have to wonder about their ability to survive. Soton, Reading and QPR all in the dropzone now.
Teams out at the Emirates now:
Arsenal: Mannone, Sagna, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Andre Santos, Arteta, Wilshere, Cazorla, Ramsey, Podolski, Giroud.
Subs: Martinez, Koscielny, Walcott, Coquelin, Arshavin, Jenkinson, Gervinho.
QPR: Julio Cesar, Bosingwa, Mbia, Nelsen, Traore, Wright-Phillips, Diakite, Granero, Hoilett, Taarabt, Zamora.
Subs: Green, Ferdinand, Cisse, Mackie, Onuoha, Ephraim, Faurlin.
I've got a lovely link up through First Row for SS:
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/149092/3/watch-gillette-soccer-saturday.html
Jack Wilshere gets a warm welcome back from the Emirates faithful on his first touch.
I am back, BD. As Arsenal take on Evil QPR. I am not sure who to root for from a United point of view.
Ipswich have shopped their manager Paul Jewell this week but it hasn't helped much. They're 0-1 down to Not a Big Club within minutes.
I am back, BD. I am not sure who to root for at the EM , as I am a United fan
It was about Bloody time as Jewell is past it.
I'm not sure it matters much for you lot. Arsenal are unlikely to challenge for more than a top four CL slot and QPR are certainly no threat to you either. The only sides I reckon you have to root against are Chelski and Citeh - they're you main rivals.
Agreed - but the Tractor Boyz need to sort themselves out quickly or they'll end up in L1.
Fall has finally arrived in Harlingen. A front past through in the afternoon and temps dropped from 90 down to 70 by evening. Now overcast, in the 50s and a really strong North wind.
Evil Cardiff have taken the lead in their top flight match against free scoring Burnley. Good match there.
Definitely true. The Tractor Boyz should have canned Jewell ages ago.
Come on, you Whites - I want an early goal to settle the nerves!
Oh - a near thing there for the Arse.
Giroud at least hit the target there but his touch could have been more incisive.
Wigan take the lead vs the Hammers
First goal in the Premiership goes to Wigan. Apparently a similar volley to that that Gary Cahill scored last week.
Agreed , BD. Evil QPR off to a really slow start
Agreed , BD. Evil QPR off to a really slow start
It's all Arsenal pressure now. Aaron Ramsey header there from a decent cross.
The Pompey play at Bramall Lane in the Monday Night match
Did you read my comment about Fall arriving in our neck of the woods.
No - I missed that. Is it a bit chillier in Harlingen? We're getting ready to get battered by Hurricane Sandy.
Podolski pulls the trigger - wide left.
Was 90 yesterday,.Right now in the mid 50s with a brisk North wind.
I was watching that last night . Hope everyone in the Northeast does okay with a surprisingly late season hurricane.
Brentford take the lead vs struggling Hartlepoool
For some reason I only have audio for the Gilette Soccer Saturday
More Arsenal pressure , but a poor cross is right to Julio Cesar
That's usually how I enjoy it, with lots of other windows up and my eye on the FSC match on the box. I don't really need video confirmation of Phil Thompson's big nose.
Wolves have done what we needed to do against Charlton in mid-week - they're 1-0 up and now into third.
Julio Cesar fumbled a long range effort from Wilshere, but gathered before anyone could pounce on it.
A goal right now would shoot us up to 4th - come on, you Whites!
Hope you and everyone else do okay with the late season hurricane. You gave us some of your cooler weather today as it is windy and in the mid 50s.
IT'S LEEDS TIME!
IT'S LEEDS TIME!
Have you read that Moyesy is trying to play the ref ahead of the Mersey Derby tomorrow morning by talking about Suarez's "history of diving?"
Cheers, mate - for both the well wishes and the Leeds wishes. I'm relatively confident about the match and I don't think the hurricane will be that severe this far west.
I heard that. Typical derby day gamesmanship by Moyes, but surprising it was from him.
Are you glad we finally have some cooler weather?Unusual by our standards this early in the season.
Yes - I tend to dress seasonally, so it's weird to get some warm days again when I instinctually pull on a sweater or a tweedy jacket to go over to work.
It has become rather scrappy at the EM. Gooner will not be pleased.
Not a lot of goals in the top two leagues.
We finally were able to turn off the AC when I went to bed last night
Merse is shouting "What a goal!" Ledgertwood has scored for Reading at the DW.
MCAnuff gives Reading the lead,
Nice - that'll save you on the bills.
Not sure who Reading scored against . Palace take the lead at the Crisps.
Yes - Palace have scored against table-topping Leicester. Knocked them down a peg or two.
Cheers, BD
The text of the Leeds match reads that it's been a scrappy affair with few chances.
Barnsley have jumped out into a lead against woeful Forest.
And Evil Millwall are in front against Huddersfield. That helps us.
Fantastic - Palace are 0-2 up!!
Palace lead 0-2 at the Crisps.
In LOB news, I've been chatting quite a bit on FB with an old soccer mate Mark Enderle. He was a '81 LHS alum. He's out in the Portland area and still follows the footer as well as being politically active. I've invited him along to the blog, so if you see a new name on the list, that's him.
Reading took the lead vs Fulham
Posh take the lead vs Derby County
Leeds are up into 7th now, only a point out of the play-off spots - we need a goal!
Posh are 1-0 up against Derby - also helps us a bit.
Taraabt is making a real nuisance of himself at the Em.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
Cheers, mate - we'll need it. I usually play MOT before the match. I may also need to do the Leeds United Calypso at half-time for extra mojo.
It was Leigertwood with his first Prem goal in seven years, the last for the Blades.
Go for it,. BD! Any Moving Pictures!
Diakite concedes a free kick just outside the box.
Jack Wilshere over a dangerous free kick now....
Straight into the wall.
Into the wall and QPR eventually clear
Oh yeah - it was straight "Moving Pictures" and Rush's new one "Clockwork Angels" all week on the iPod to get ready for last night's Rush-fest. Great night out.
Glad you enjoyed. I did when I saw them just over twenty years ago.I wonder how many more concerts they will do.
Great run by Hoilett as he wins a corner off of Vermaelen
The corner to the edge of the box did not come off and the Gunners now attack
Di Canio's lads lead 0-3 at Stevenage.
Forest have leveled it against Barnsley now.
Gooner is watching this one with my dad. I'm sure they're frustrated by this showing.
Forest tie it up at Barnsley as I now have video
