League Cup 4th Round Live!
One of the highlights so far in this young season for me was watching Leeds take apart high-flying Everton in the 3rd Round of the League Cup. It's 4th Round time, chaps - and the Mighty Whites have earned themselves a home fixture with woeful Southampton. Should be a passport to the 5th Round, you say? Not so fast! We just tanked one against woeful Charlton on Saturday, so nothing is safe with Evil Neil's side. Should be a gripping afternoon, then. I'll be in and out, checking the scores during my breaks. Chip in if you're around and about.

Good afternoon, BD. I am teaching this afternoon, but should be around for the final twenty to thirty minutes of the match.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
We're not in the Carling Cup? Why are we playing bleedin' Reading then?
I am here 6 minutes in.

Tony Cottee said 'dreadful goalkeeping"
Dunno what he was trying to do
He's an Argentine and he tried to palm it out but it went right in!
Apparently, Arsene still doesn't want to win a trophy!
This was his starting line up

BBC Radio 5 live summariser Craig Burley on Luke Varney's miss at Elland Road: "If you have never kicked a ball in your life, if that ball had fallen to you in that position I would have put money on you scoring."
According to Robbie Fowler
Leeds are bossing it
They look like the Premier League side

Swindon have been the better side but Villa take the lead
Celtic two up
Goal at Elland Road... to the HOSTS!!
Great tohear that Leeds just scored. Bob will be delighted. I cannot get a link to the match because it is blocked by the district firewall.
GORDON BENNETT!!
IT'S FOUR NIL TO READING!!
YESSSSS!!!!! I've just returned after my first class to see that Michael Tonge has fired us into the lead.
Afternoon, boys - I hope you're doing well today.
Where are my manners? Goood afternoon, UWS. I am sure you will have to make up the day off, so in some ways it must be frustrating to get a day off and not have any weather problems. That happened to me in the late 90s when we were supposed to get a hurricane and it was sunny all day
Looks like Arsene has put out the tea ladies today against Reading. Cor!
Boro score at the Stadium of Light
Good afeternoon, BD. Gooner will be furious. I know some teams don't take this competition seriously, but at the same time don't want to be humiliated.
Villa double their lead
I wonder if the rematch at the Bridge will be the battle of the tea ladies or perhaps the meter maids.
Looks like we're cruising into half-time 1-0 up. Keep it up, Whites!
I'm not sure that Gooner is going to be that furious. Arsenal have never taken the League Cup seriously.
Back to class....
Halftime and 1-0 to the Whites.Celtic lead St. Johnstone 3-0
Boro take their lead to half against Sunderland
Arsenal get a goal back by Theo in the 46th minute
Last kick of the half

Sunderland 0 Boro 1
Wigan 0 Bradford 0
Halftime scores from the Scottish League Cup:

Reading almost get a quick goal!
HEY MUR
Busy watching three screens and sharing the computer with Matt
Missed you BD
Good afternoon to you too
You have probably left again
Chamakh goes bonkers about a handball and gets booked for sprinting to the linesman
Leeds more likely to score
Boy do Leeds have a lot of old Blades!!!
Bloody Warnock
Celtic are four up
Your comment about Steve should be right
The Arsenal fans want a trophy
They have made at least the quarters for ten straight seasons
Celtic #5
The Arse going to make a couple of changes
Last half hour of all the games
There have been no changes to the half time scores
Here come the changes for the Gunners
Giroud on for Ping Pong
Eisfeld on for Gnabry
GOAL... Giroud with his first touch make it 4-2!
Nice header but poor defending
How that last minute goal of the first half changed this game
The last period of the day just ended. The students are leaving for the bus, so I will be aroun d for the remainder of the matches.,
Still 25 minutes to go at Reading
Just saw that the Gunners just scored. Thje comeback is on.
Since you had the day off di you get extra kip?
Welcome MUR
At least you get to follow the end of the matches this week because of the time change
Welcome MUR
At least you get to follow the end of the matches this week because of the time change
I didn't get the day off
We were expecting a day off but we got none of Sandy. I had a full day today. My college class has been cancelled tonight... lovely
St. Mirren take the lead at Aberdeen
Thanks, UWS. It is nice to be able to follow for once. Will you have to make up having the day off today?
Nope.. just have to cover stuff faster
Sorry, you just answered my question. Nice to have the evening off.
Craig Burley on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Southampton haven't really created much up to now and we are approaching the 70th minute. Leeds will be anxious to get a second goal, just so they don't have to sit on their lead in the final stages of the game."
I have done that before.Since I am at school, I cannot access the link, so I am following the updates on soccernet.
Walcott has a chance for free kick... Johnny Wilkinson impersonation
I agree with Craig Burley. A second goal should seal a place for Leeds in the quarters.
Typical Theo!
An ex Blade Tonge's goal still the only goal at Elland Road
Perhaps Bob that will give Bob something positive to say about the Blades for Once. Like that will ever happen.
Opta Joe on Twitter: "Under the stewardship of Arsene Wenger, Arsenal have conceded four goals on 22 occasions. Lapse."
Will you be around for Chelsea Resevres vs the United Reserves tomorrow?
Another free kick chance for the Arsenal..surely not Theo again
That is over a fifteen year period, so about one and a half times per season. Lapse is an accurate description.
Theo and Giroud stand over the ball...Giroud... into the wall's shins!
Exactly opposite of Theo's
But just as useless!
Richard, Scotland, via text: "Re Rich (2106). Manchester United were hammered 4-0 by West Ham in the League Cup in 2010 and the Hammers went on to be relegated. It does happen to the others. Let's all keep our hair on."
I have a doctor's appointment about thirty minutes before kickoff tomorrow. I should be around for the second half if I get called in on time.
I remember that.League Cup results should be taken with a grain of salt.
Goal at Swindon.... for the hosts... game on
Deserved apparently
I saw Wigan vs Bradford City. Sounds like it should be a rugby match.
Fingers crossed to be called on time
It sounds like no one is 'try'ing
Paolo's lads are in with a chance of an upset. They defeated Wigan in the FA Cup last season.
10 to go at Reading
Thanks, UWS . I will come home where I know there will be a link for the match. Hope to bve around for the second half.
Goal at Swindon again.... for THE HOSTS AGAIN!!
He was quoted earlier that his goal at OT for the Hammers in the Cup and if they win tonight would be better than having sex with Madonna!
BLOODY NORAH. DESMOND BETWEEN SWINDON AND VILLA!
Miles Storey with both goals for Swindon in a three minute span
Southampton have had a half chance but that is it
4 minutes left in the Rugby
Paolo needs to get a life. Sounds like he's not performing off the pitch!
If they were playing rugby instead of football, it wouldn't be 0-0
All talk and no action from Paolo.
The Gunners running out of time
Two goals needed in 5 minutes plus stoppage time
A GOAL AT ELLAND ROAD
FOR LEEDS!!!
TWO NIL AND CAN YOU SAY QUARTER FINALS!!
Spitty with the goal
Completely deserved according to Fowler
It can be done, but not very likely. Bob's team will go further in the League Cup than Steve's team.
I'll take a battle of Uniteds at Wembley in the Final
WAY TO GO WHITES!
I hope they get tone of the rugby teams in the quarters
Sounds like a great final!
That would be good... hopefully Bradford at home
GOAL- Leeds 2-0 Southampton - El-Hadji Diouf
Game over at Elland Road. Leeds United are heading into the last eight. Rodolph Austin drives forward before firing a shot that is saved by Kelvin Davis. However, the ball falls to El-Hadji Diouf, who makes no mistake with a finish from close range. Nigel Adkins decision to change his entire starting XI has backfired here.
Will the match at the Bridge be a contest beween two teams who won't want to win because it will be considered one competition too many,Both teams will see the match played on Sunday as the one that counts.
Do you know the other two games tomorrow besides the Chelsea United match?
GOAL... TO THE ARSE!!!!
4-3 with 1 minute plus stoppages
That would be a local derby for Leeds. They defeated Bradford in the first round of this competition last season.
Kosc with the goal
Goal at Swindon... to VILLA!!
Norwich vs Spurs and Liverpool vs Swansea.
Kosc fouls and Reading want him to get a second yellow in two minutes... card stays in pocket
Cheers.. All Prem
A dramatic finale at the Madjeski and heartbreak for Paolo's lads. I guess not better than sex with Madonna.
Arsenal complaining about time wasting
Penalty to Leeds... Becchio nets in... THREE NIL
Now Desmond between Aberdeen and St. Mirren
WOW! 3-0 Leeds
Theo almost in!
Corner... cleared
Aberdeen tie it up against St. Mirren
Extra time at the DW Rugby match
Brendan Rodgers against his former employers
It's over at ER . Leeds win 3-0
two of four minutes already been played at Reading
Leeds win 3-0... easy easy easy
Celtic defeat St. Johnstone 5-0.
ET for Aberdeen vs St. Mirren
Villa have won 3-2... Swindon very unlucky
Back at my break and - wallop! - 3-0 to the Mighty Whites. MOT into the quarterfinals!
Final seconds at Reading and Sunderland
Villa win 2-3 at Swindon thanks to that late winner.
Boro have beaten Sunderland 1-0
Two Prem teams out to Championship sides
Looks like an almighty comeback by the Arsenal but they may have left themselves with too much to do with those four early goals.
Welcome back, BD. Congrats on an exceelent win.
The quarters for the Whites!
Into the fifth minute of stoppage time at the Madjeski
WALCOTT HAS SCORED!!!!!
FIFTH MINUTE OF FOUR ADDED!!
3-0 at Full-time at Elland Road.
Now who do we want in the Quarters. I'd take Boro or either Wigan or Bradford City. I'd like to stay away from the winner of tomorrow's Chelski-United grudge fest, Spurs and Liverpool.
It was Jenkinson with the follow up
Bloody hell - 4-4!
HOLY F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4-4
How about a home tie with Bradford?
BLOODY HELL!!4-4 . THEY CAME FROM FOUR DOWN. ET AT THE MADJESKI
Welcome Bob
Extra Time at Reading
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/149790/1/watch-reading-fc-vs-arsenal.html
Why di they add mor then four minutes of stoppage time., Surely Reading will be furious.
They deserved it for their second half performance
Reading complaining that the goal was scored at 94:59 after 4 minutes were put up on the board
DON'T MAKE SUBSTITUTIONS!!!
Struth.. Reading almost retake the lead!
Arsenal better not waste this comeback and lose anyway!
Correct, Reading time wasted during extra time with their subs so another minute was added. I followed along and Reading will want more than that in the way of explanation. Koz could have been sent off for a second yellow a number of times for a start.
Sounds like Arsenal scored with one second to spare. Talk about scoring in the nick of time. Sounds like a reasonable explanation.
Just like United win against Citeh in the 4-3 match
Four or five added minutes and United scored on SEVEN
Three substitutions and a couple of goals were scored after the 90th!
GOAL - Reading 4-4 Arsenal - Theo Walcott
Incredible! Absolutely incredible! The four minutes of added time were up but somehow Arsenal have managed the seemingly impossible. Theo Walcott's shot from inside the area appears to cross the line courtesy of Nicky Shorey's arm before the defender pokes clear but Carl Jenkinson is there to make sure by driving in. The Arsenal players fans go wild in celebration, the Reading players and fans go nuts in condemnation at the amount of added time that was played.
Two extra time games
Both couldn't be more different
Nil nil and Four four
Still 0-0 in the borefest rugby battle
I am surprised Arsenal haven't been going at them in the added period.
ANd it is Desmond between Aberdeen and St. Mirren, the average of the two ET matches in England.
I will need to leabe ah halftime of ET so I can pick up Melanie form violin practice.
Daily Telegraph football correspondent Henry Winter at Reading v Arsenal: "Amusing....Giroud and Coquelin threw their shirts into crowd thinking game was over. Had to request them back for extra time!"
Steven, Cambridge, via text: "Wengie time?"
A hilarious incident. I am sure Arsene was not amused. Wengie time has been relatively quiet!
Halftime of ET in the rugby contest and still 0-0.Desmond between Aberdeen and St. Mirren at halftime of ET
GOAL..... Chamakh with a strike to complete the comeback in full
CHAMAKH. Only bleedin' Chamakh 4-5!
BLOODY HELL 4-5 TO THE GUNNERS AT THE MADJESKI. WHAT A COMEBACK. GOONER MUST BE DANCING IN ALEX!
It will be a good night for BOTH Dahlgren boys!!
I have to leave topick up Melanie from violin practice. I will check the comments to see how this thriller concludes.Hope to be around tomorrow.
Now an Arsenal player down hurt
Not sure who>
Time wasting
Hope it will be a good night for us tomorrow.
CHEERS LADS!
Just saw Luke Varney miss for Leeds!!
YIKES!!
Sliding in.. inside the six yard box... hits it wide!
Arsenal's number 54... being taken off on a stretcher!
Needed or time wasting?
Miquel is the bloke that went off
Half time of extra time in Reading
Second half underway
Still Desmond at Pittodrie
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown on BBC Radio 5 live:
"How bad does it have to be for Arsenal before they turn up to play?"
Take care MUR
Free kick chance for Reading
ooh header just saved by the Arse Argentine
No.. it went wide
It was a save.. he was called for offside
4 minutes to penalties unless a try is scored at Wigan
I am going to miss the end of these matches
Off to get some pizza...I'll be back to see the end score
Surely it is happy times for both Dahlgren boys
GORDON BENNETT
I come back and see that Reading tied it up and then Arsenal WIN FIVE SEVEN!!!!!!
WOW!!!
Wigan won 4-2 on Pens
What a night!
Talk to you guys tomorrow
TTFN
UWS
From the Beeb
22:13 GOAL - Reading 5-5 Arsenal - Pavel Pogrebnyak
This is absolutely crazy, incredibly so. Arsenal have come back from four goals down to lead 5-4. But just as they seem to be closing in on a famous, famous victory Pavel Pogrebnyak heads home a cross from Chris Gunter.
22:18 GOAL - Reading 5-6 Arsenal - Theo Walcott
Are there words to describe this? Penalties beckon when Theo Walcott strikes late on, stabbing home from six yards after Andrey Arshavin's initial effort is cleared off the line. Incredible, incredible scenes.
2221:
GOAL - Reading 5-7 Arsenal - Marouane Chamakh
There's always room for one more goal on a night like this. Arsenal seal the most remarkable of wins as Marouane Chamakh latches on to a ball over the top before lobbing Adam Federici to make it 7-5 to the Gunners. You may remember the Gunners were 4-0 down after 37 minutes. You may also remember it was 5-5 with four extra-time minutes left. This has been one of the most incredible games of football I have ever seen.
Wow - when was the last time that 12 goals were scored in a match? That's one for the stattos out there to chew over.
Great story about the players throwing their shirts into the crowd and then asking for them back. I'd love to see the video footage of that.
Too bad I had to leave early. That has to be the best match in ages.Wish the was a link for the match
I just checked and it was Bradford City who won 4-2 on pens in the upset of the round. United vs Bradford City sounds like a great quarterfinal.
