League Cup Fourth Round Action Halloween Style
There is more League Cup Action today as there three all EPL contests. The marquee match is a rematch of Sunday as Chelsea host United. I hope the Blues get the same treatment as I will during my annual visit to the Urologist. Fingers up the Blues. This match does not have nearly the significance that the EPL contest did on Sunday and may even be seen as an unneeded extra match, but I am sure both teams will go all out to win.I expect a lot of changes from both sides from that contest on Sunday. The other contests are Norwich vs Spurs and Liverpool vs Swansea as Brendan Rodgers and Joe Allen welcome their old mates to Anfield. If these matches come anywhere close to as entertaining as those incredible matches then we are in for a real treat.

Thanks for the post, MUR. I'm feeling a bit of deja vu on this Halloween. It seems just days ago that these two sides met. Vague memories of two early goals for United, yellows for Ivanovic, a divey Torres, and Clattenberg getting it wrong on the offside calls. Oh yeah...it was Sunday.
I expect very different line-ups and a very different match today. Do you lot even care about the League Cup at this point?
I've got a link up through Front Row here:
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/150027/2/watch-chelsea-vs-manchester-united.html
Both managers are inevitably running out the kids tonight:
Chelsea: Cech, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz, Bertrand, Romeu, Mikel, Moses, Mata, Piazon, Sturridge
United: Lindgaard, Rafael, Keane, Wooton, Buttner, Giggs, Anderson, Fletcher, Nani, Hernandez, Wellbeck
Referee: Lee Mason
It's Martin Tyler and Alan Smiff on the commentary track today.
Nice one - United fans have just unfurled a large banner reading: "Clattenberg, Referee, Leader, Legend."
Oh - great ball over from Victor Moses and Sturridge made a complete hash of it. Shame.
I am here a little late
I have the link for the match and for Soccer Special/Sky Sports News
First yellow card of the evening - Romeu for tripping up Wooten on the trot.
Afternoon, UWS - how are you, mate?
Tasty free kick opportunity here. My boy Nani behind it...
Straight at Cech on the hop.
Quite a strong line up for United
Nani has a free kick easily saved by Cech
I am ok
I am a little tired and fed up with my students!
Kids at the new school not to your liking?
Did you see the comment earlier about the ManYoo fans' banner? I think that's hilarious.
Welbeck with a strike saved by Cech again
Almost identical to the Nani free kick save
Liverpool coming out for their match
No goals in any of the three League Cup matches this afternoon. I'd have a Yorkshire derby with Bradford City in the next round - who would you have?
Oh - Wooten did well there standing up to Moses.
Another chance for Nani to set his sights on goal. No - it's Buttner who races up and hits one left footed. Well wide.
Free kick chance again.. hit wide by ?
GOAL... don't know what happened United take the lead... GIggs nets it as my link freezes!
Terrible mistake by the defenders!
GOAL! Giggs finishes with aplomb on his favored left peg.
0-1 United!
Have we seen this story before? I think so. Just three days ago.
Chelsea man goes down... no foul
Fans starting to blame the ref... players to follow!
Did you see the Luke Varney miss from last night?
Chelsea man in the book.. Mikel again... man behind the controversy
John Obi Wan Kenobi gets his usual yellow card. Cynical little trip there.
No - I didn't, but I heard that it was hilarious. Still - 3-0 - can't complain about that.
Mata can swing a free kick in here....
Cleared out for a corner.
The links a bit jumpy again.
Here it is.. in slow motion
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2225703/Luke-Varney-miss-century-Leeds--video.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
I can't believe Chelsea making such a big deal about Clattenburg... how about the way they speak to him!
BUGGER... PENALTY... don't know if it was but the ref was going to call it no doubt
I guess it was
David Luis to take... row q please... in the corner.. Lindy almost got it
I missed that as a student came by looking for advisement.
What's got the United fans stirred up behind the goal?
Good afternoon, BD and UWS. I am back from the urologist. How are things at the Bridge?
Welcome... here before half time!
United deserve the lead
Cheers UWS. Sounds like a great match.
Just saw that it is 1-1
Still scoreless after 39 minutes at Carrow Road
Scoreless at Anfield too but that only started at 4
Sise Show hoofs it into touch off a United long ball.
I've just watched that link that you sent - that was pretty funny, I have to admit.
Mick McCarthy to get the Ipswich job
Henning Berg to get the Rovers job
CLassic... very funny... when winning 3-0!
Not so much if it was 1-1
Afternoon, MUR - looks like we're all set for another humdinger.
John Terry appears to be dressed like a sherpa ready to summit Mount Everest. Surely it's not that cold. And can't he afford a proper wool topcoat?
GOAL! "He always scores against Chelsea." Chicharito - 1-2!
YES... I MISSED IT BUT HERNANDEZ SCORES AGAIN
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
1-2 UNITED AS CHICHARITO DOES IT YET AGAIN OFF A NICE THROUGH BALL FROM WHAT LOOKED LIKED NANI. DAVID LUIZ WAS BEATEN FOR PACE. DEFINITELY ONSIDE
That's was all about Sideshow wandering into nosebleed territory and losing the ball. From there, the goal was inevitable.
Roman doesn't like what he's seeing (alongside Sheva).
I'm happy that you acknowledged that sumptuous ball but it was from Anderson rather than my boy Nani this time.
Good afternoon, BD. Just in time to see Hernandez, who always scores against Chelsea.
Great time to score - we're nearly at half-time.
Two minutes of stoppage time as Side Show was in position this time, to clear a cross from Giggs.
Mikkel has a shot blocked for a corner after a great run by Moses.
Sturridge straight to De Gea off the corner.
Halftime and what seems to become a habit as United lead at the Bridge .1-2 to United thanks to Side Show being well out of position.
1-2 at the interval. Great first half.
So, JT looked like he was reserving a seat for Mr. Clattenburg while having a sulk
A couple of real "Halloween Howlers" there from the Chelski backfour. Spooooooky!
Back from walkies in touch time to see Powell have a decent effort
I am back as I was picking up Jacquelyn from school
Bloody short corner from United finally comes over and straight out
Did you like my comment about JT reserving a seat for Clattenburg?
I did - nice one, MUR. We're back on at the Bridge.
Anderson flagged offside, but the replay showed he was level. Where is the linesman from Sunday?
As I reloaded the page... Cahill ties it up!
Now Chelsea have a corner.
BLOODY HELL!! IT'S DESMOND AS CAHILL HEADS IN A CORNER FROM MATA AND THE REPLAY SHOWED THAT RAFFA CLEARED ONCE THE BALL CROSSED THE LINE. THE CORRECT DECISION
I must be behind - it's still 1-2 on my link. Crikey!
Good header by Cahill.. Rafa tried to head it off the line but it was over
Desmond it is
Both goals by Chelsea are from their center backs
I saw that BD posted some new managerial appointments in the Championship.
RDM appears to be making some changes.
Yes - it's Henning Berg in at Blackburn.
Holders, Liverpool, losing at home at the half to Swansea
Brendan's old boys beating Brendan's new boys
Hzard is on for Lucas Piazon, a sign that RDM is going for the win as he brings on the cavalry
Great news from Anfield.
7-5 here we come?
No... 5-7
Thanks, BD. Did you say Mick McCarthy at Ipswich?
There it is - I must be about five minutes behind your link - I'm going to try to refresh.
I prefer 5-7, but neither team had a four goal lead at the half.
Sure enough - I've refreshed and I'm immediately at the 57th minute mark. Must have been all that buffering in the first half.
Paranormal is a more accurate description of the matches yersterday
GOAL! NANI!!!!!!!!
2-3!
YES!!!!
GREAT MOVE AND NANI FINISHES IT OFF!!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
BOB'S BOY GIOVES UNITED A 2-3 LEAD WITH DELIGHTFUL FINISH
"A delicious finish" from Nani - how much do you love him now?
Just like Sunday!
I've just been chatting with JDLC via FB - he confirmed that he's up for joining us for the LOB mini-reunion in January. Great news!
Spurs getting closer at Carrow Road
Some updates in the Scottish League Cup:
Dundee United 1 Hearts 1
Ranghers 0 Inverness Callie 2
Goal in the Scottish League Cup at Ibrox
TWO NIL DOWN TO INVERNESS... I guess it isn't an upset
ooh, United should have scored again!
Cech made a kick save from Giggs then Anderson shot the rebound over.
Shame I will miss it.. AGAIN
Not an upset, but would have been any other season
Not an upset, but would have been any other season
Is the Draw after the matches tonight?
Sorry to hear that UWS. You are welcome here any time, but you would probably prefer to come in the winter. Great to hear JDLC will be joining . Brilliant work, BD.
Could Chelsea lose for the third time on the trot
Wooten in the book for a rash challenge
Young Wooton is booked for a foul on Sturridge. A bit too enthusiastic.
I am not sure when the draw is. Hope Chelsea lose for the third time in a row. Sturridge had a shot deflected for a corner. Victor Moses headed wide from the corner.
Sturridge has a shot blocked
Corner... they scored from their last one but they do a short one....almost scored from that too!!
Just over
25 minutes to go
Inverness Callie won away to Celtic before they were an SPL team, so they know how to defeat Old Firm teams in cup matches, even though this one is expected.
Spurs finally take the lead... Bale with the goal
Two consecutive 2-3 leads for United at the Bridge. Two consecutive matches that Chicharito scored. One was offside and one was on.
Super Cally Go Ballistic Celtic are Atrocious
Just saw the Spurs goal. A minute later than the Nocito Sports Center
What a chance for Chelsea... missed header at the back post...phew
My pleasure, MUR. I'm looking forward to it. Of course, there will be many reunions in your future, UWS - empty nest on the horizon.
A free header for Azpicuieta and the young right back headed over.
KNOCK IT OFF UNITED!
Like your lyric , UWS. Hopefully the empty nest syndrome will be history!
How was Chicharito offside? Different rules than Sunday?
My link is really annoying... stopping all the time
Gerrard and Suarez are on for Pool
Oscar for Romeu as another starter is on , as RDM goes for the victory
Oscar for Romeu as another starter is on , as RDM goes for the victory
Now Chelski are bellowing for a penalty. Apparently Lee Mason is no more to their liking than was Clattenberg.
I missed it but Chelsea want another pen
Of course, the refs want United to win!!!
PHEW!!! I thought that was hand ball as Mata had shot blocked with a hand. Thought Chelsea were being awarded a penalty
McCarthy has been appointed manager at Portman Road
Berg will be announced tomorrow
No pleasing Chelsea. They don't like Lee Mason any better than Mark Clattenburg. I think Lee Mason knows to keep his mouth shut
Barry Fry says it was a def pen.. my link froze at the time...so as Arsene would say...'eh... I didn't see it"
Just saw it... definite hand ball
Well, eh.... Nice one, Arsene.
15 minutes to go
Thanks for the managerial updates, UWS and BD. McCarthy after adversary, Roy Keane, at Ipswich , but before him at Sunderland.
Lindy does well with the Moses effort.
Lindy saves from Moses
PHEW!!! Moses straight at Lindy from close range. United riding their luck.
Nice defending by Welly
USeless long range effort from Anderson
Useless shot by Anderson.. how can a Brazilian be so unskillful?
It was handball . I thought Chelsea had a penalty. Relieved to see it wasn't
Nice one-two bewteen Anderson and Hernandez, but a poor final ball from Hernandez
Callie now lead 0-3 at Ibrox.
Be fair, UWS. Anderson did lay on that goal for Chicha in the first half. You're beating the league leaders for the second time in three days away from home and you're still not happy - can I recommend some Prozac?
OH! Great pass from Anderson to Welbeck, but straight at Cech
I am pleased, but let's see what happens the final ten minutes.
I am pleased, but let's see what happens the final ten minutes.
Super Cally goes three up at Ibrox
The cross from Raffa for Welbeck was just too high
Anderson is off for Tunncliff
Ryan Tunnicliffe is on for Anderson. His first team debut?
Dundde United vs Hearts is in ET as Wooton fouls Hazard just outside the box. He is on a yellow,.
Hazard picks up a free kick. For some reason, defenders can't resist fouling that guy - I wonder why?
Oh - Mata places it just over the top.
Mata to take... not like Sunday please!
Thank you
Mata shot just over from the free kick. He scored from this exact spot on Sunday
My link was frozen so I didn't see where it went but it didn't go in the big rectangle
Sturridge with a shot saved by Lindy
Come on United.. just break and score!
Sturridge straight at Lindy
Goal at Carrow Road... 1-1 with 8 to go
Norwich tie it up vs Spurs.ET at Carrow Road as Hughton is up against the club where he played for many years.
Oh - great save by Lindy from a rocket by Oscar.
Great save by Lindy from Oscar. Rather unorthodox.
BLOW UP REF!
It was an OG by Vertonghen
Under 5 to go
Each game is close... unlike being four down!!
Another goal at Carrow Road... to the Canaries!
What a come back!
Still got a few minutes to suffer through, MUR.
I think the draw will come up after this match, hopefully on the same feed.
Sturridge wins a corner for Chelsea. Cahill heads over from the corner.United should learn their lesson as Cahill has already scored from one corner.
So, United, Norwich and the Swans into the pot from tonight. I'll still have Bradford. How about you lot?
Reloaded again and got that Geordie commentator... refreshed again and got Martin and Alan again
I'll take Norwich
I would like Man Yoo to face Bradford in the quarters at OT
We lost to Palace last season!!
I will be around for the draw. Thanks, BD.
Swansea are two up!!!
Wow - Swansea now 0-2 up!
Stoppage time and corner to Chelsea... cleared
3 added minutes... so Chelsea to score in FOUR minutes!
Three minutes of stoppage time as Swansea now lead 0-2 at Anfield as a familiar person , Nathan Dyer, has scored.
I've got a title for the second season of that Liverpool doc on FSC: "Being Liverpool - It Sucks!"
David Luis hurts himself hitting the advertising hoardings
Will the draw be once the late match has ended?
I agree 100%, BD.
Being Liverpool: Road to the Championship... division that is
Now Side Show is booked.
Or how about - "Being Liverpool - It's Only Slightly Better than Being Tranmere Rovers."
David Luis in the book
1 minute to go
One can only hope, UWS!
I like that BD
Agreed, BD.
BLOW UP REF!!
Bloody hell - a late penalty! What drama!
BLOODY HELL... where was marking and then a stupid foul!!
I called it.. four mints!!
DAMN IT! RAMIRES GOES DOWN IN THE BOX OFF A CHALLENGE FROM WOOTN. DEFINITE FOUL, BUT AFTER THREE MINUTES HAD BEEN PLAYED
A different taker... Hazard.. right down the middle.. HOPELESS!!
Hazard to take....
Rolls it down the middle - cheeky.
HAZARD TIES IT UP. ET AT THE BRIDGE AS HAZARD SCORED DOWN THE CENTER , SENDING LINDY THE WRONG WAY.
There were three players open in the box... how did that happen!!!!
Last kick of the game!
Liverpool get a goal back
So it is ET at the Bridge as it is 3-3. SAF will definitely have something to say about the stopwatch.
WHY DON'T I SHUT UP!
I SAID.. THREE ADDED MINUTES AND THEY'LL SCORE IN THE 94th!!! THEY DID!
Not really... the foul was before the 93rd minute
Wasn't the foul ten seconds after the three minutes had been played. SAF will be furious.
Was it? I thought it was around 93:10.
Callie won 0-3 at Ibrox while Norwich have defeated Spurs 2-1.
Norwich have beaten Spurs
Some argy bargy with Nani and some others
GOAL! Sturridge finally converts a chance. 4-3 Blues!
Now it's handbags between Nani and Oscar.
Yellows all round.
4-3 CHELSEA... I CAN'T BELIEVE IT
What is with these pro defenders!
Oscar and Nani were the ones having handbags.. both in the book
I am back on LOB. I blame Wooton for us trailing
