There is some pleasant autumn sunshine and a glimpse of blue sky for the United and Old Trafford players who are out and warming up at Old Trafford at the moment. Knowing Manchester it will be chucking it down by kick-off, though.
Good morning, UWS. I hope Arsenal continue the losing streak at OT. I expect the defenses to be less leaky as the reserves won't be playing today.. Young Scott Wooton was exposed by Hazard and Oscar on Wednesday. I expect better from United today. I would love to see RVP score at a hat-trick at OT against his former club.
Morning, boys - I couldn't be more pumped for this match! Thanks for the post, UWS.
Wahay - ESPN2 are starting their coverage with the 8-2 result from last year. I'd take ten goals again.
ESPN's coverage has started
Lovely jubbley
Doesn't the stand look lovely
Morning boys... looking forward to it
Teams getting off the bus. I'm still waiting for the day when I see Fergie or Arsene get off the bus with huge club-style headphones on.
I can't believe that Walcott isn't starting
Yeah - what does Theo have to do? I know he's involved a contract dispute but....really?
Swansea and Chelsea is the match on FSC at 11
So, will RVP celebrate when he scores his first today? His second? His third?
Oh Rio - why did you ever leave Elland Road.
And then the Hammers and Citeh at 1:30. When do our clocks go back - tonight?
I still don't like United's defense so far this season.
Evra struggles, Rafa attacks too much, Rio is too old and Evans makes stupid mistakes
Jones and Smalling close to return. Will they, can they both play central in the back?
Read that Vidic may not be back to New Year
Opta Joe on Twitter: "Manchester United have scored in their last 53 Premier League home games in a row, an all-time PL record."
Yup, we get an extra hour kip tonight
Of course, all the games start an hour earlier then the last couple of weeks
Teams in tunnel... good hugs all round for RVP from the Arsenal team
Not exactly like Neville completely ignoring the BIg Dane a while back
Ash, confused Arsenal fan, via text: "Surely Vermaelen at left back and Koscielny partnering Mertesacker would have looked more convincing for Arsenal at the back?"
Michal, via text: "Surely Vermaelen should be starting at left back. Santos will be destroyed!"
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport chief football writer at Old Trafford
"Walcott may have had a long night at Reading - but after a hat-trick surely he would have been bursting to start at Manchester United today?"
United have the same starting line up for back to back prem games in 11 months
HERE WE GO... no hurricane for me to worry about for this match... like last season
away we go
Kick-off time!
Well... United have succeeded in not conceding inside two minutes against a North London club
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RVP SCORES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO CELEBRATION BUT WHAT A START!
GOAL! Crikey -it's RVP with a dagger into the heart of his old club - 3 minutes in!
1-0 United!
What was that from the Verminator! Shocking defending, there.
RVP takes the lead in the GBB stakes.
I just arrived back from taking Melanie to a tennis tournament and see that RVP has given us the lead against his old club
LOVELY JUBBLY!
54 straight league home games and counting with a goal
We can not let up
A special thanks to Vermaelen for the lovely assist. Seven more goals
So RVP tied with Ba?
So RVP tied with Ba?
After this match, United have to away games on the trot. We visit Villa Park in the late match next Saturday (I won't be around, I'll be in Charlotte playing golf) and then Carrow Road in the late match the following Saturday
Young wins a free kick then am not sure what Carrick was thinking,.
So you are missing the return of Ashley Young to Villa Park! Send me regards to Jack Nicklaus.
Yes - both tied on 7 goals in the Premiership.
Just saw that RVP is top of the pops from Bob's earlier comment.
Pick up the pace United
Arsenal look like a pub side so far. WTF?
Thanks, BD. Hope RVP scores several more.
I agree, BD. Just like last visit to OT. What says Gooner?
I agree, BD. Just like last visit to OT. What says Gooner?
I don't expect to hear from the Gooner on the LOB this morning. He can't take the banter.
Poor Nottingham Forest.. every ground sings that they hate them!!
I just heard
We hate Nottingham Forest
We hate ....
Well done , andy Two Saints. Had a shot that just missed tyhe corner flag. Don't like the fact that Sagna put in a decent cross./
I wish he would join us
We say all this stuff with love!
Haven't done much since the goal
I wonder why they hate Forest, who are in the hunt for a playoff spot. What if they win promotion?
I agree with your last two comments. UWS> We always say it with love.
Bit nasty there from Wilshere on Cleverly. Booked.
Wilshire with a nasty tackle against Cleverley... in the book
Young Jack deservedly booked for a horrible challenge on young Cleverley
Young Jack deservedly booked for a horrible challenge on young Cleverley
Come on United... ATTACK
I'll let you explain that to him at the Harlingen mini-reunion, UWS.
Not sure why I am a double poster this morning
If not for RVP, we would have won 8-1 last season.
Carrick tries to be Scholes... useless pass
Come on United...start playing
I thought Carrick was you r favorite player
RVP flagged offside.
He is one of my favorites but his long passing is not Scholes-like
Useless cross from Young. He scored from that spot last season
RVP is making a monkey out of the Arsenal backfour.
Better from United as a cross from Raffa is headed away, but not convincingly.
UWS doesn't have any favorite United players. Even RVP is "just average" to him.
A slow start here.. despite the goal... not too impressive
Lovely reunion comment, BD!Also love the RVP comment. Keep up the good work.
I want to see Valencia and Young run down the wing
Will do - UWS says, "George Best - pfttt - overrated."
True, BD. I thought we finally found a winner in Carrick. Scholes won't be playing much longer.
Nice ball from Roon give RVP a chance..saved
Oh - Mannone denies RVP his brace.
OH! Roon did well to put RVP through , but he shot right at Mannonme from a narrow angle and he pushed it away
Rafa almost gets a cross over
Better passing from United results in a corner
evra wins a corner off of Sagna from another great possession.
UWS wants to give that 1999 Champions League trophy back - not enough attacking football on the day.
Giroud heads away the corner from Roon, then it is cleared away with a bicycle kick.
Struth.. Arsenal almost get a chance there
COME ON UNITED
Oh - against the run of play, De Gea has to pull off a save at the near post to Ramsey.
A powerful cross from young Jack is pushed away by De Gea
BD, do you think I am ninny?
Do you think I am wanting too much?
Come on United... we need another goal
UWS' opinion about SAF - "A bit big for his boots - wish we still had Ron Atkinson."
Yes - you are a Debby Downer, UWS.
SHOCKING BEHAVIOR FROM UWS! Nobody will ever take away our treble!
Why is Rooney on the right wing... get in the box man!
a TEASING uNITED CROSS IS HEADED AWAY. Now the gunners attack
No I am not!
I want United to win BUT play well
Thank you, MUR!
Big Ron got off to a good start , but nearly got our club relegated. The big stands for big mouth!
Useless passes by Young and Roon... almost twice there!
That's more like it
I think Roon should have passed to RVP on his shot
Roon with a great shot but Mannone palmed it out.
Great save by Mannone from Roon, then he saves a header from RVP.
Any time, BD. even Charlotte would be disappointed.
Who brought Rowan Atkinson up... sorry Ron
Reckless challenge puts Ashley Young in the book. Stamped on the foot.
Young is booked for stamping on Sagna's foot.Rather harsh.
Would the Black Adder have done any worse than Big Ron at the end. I wonder why he imploded that last year at OT.
I don't think it's crazy for Arsenal fans to care more about winning trophies than corporate solvency.
Two Saints crosses to De Gea.
I agree, BD. I guess Monsieur Wenger disagrees.
Hereford United lead Shrewsbury 2-0 in the FA Cup. An upset on the cards?
After United won the Cup in 85, they started the 85-86 season with TEN straight wins and were miles ahead! Drew a game at Hillsborough and then won some more. By Christmas, we were champions elect AND THEN... we completely collapsed and got overtaken by Double Winner Liverpool, Everton and West Ham!
The following year, we were in the relegation zone... that kind of form gets you fired!
Agreed, UWS. Then came SAF and here we are today after many successful years
Agreed, UWS. Then came SAF and here we are today after many successful years
The fans are chanting "There's only One Arsene Wenger."
Every time I look at the TV from the computer, Wilshire is down
Useless from Roon.
I wonder if he was put in the lineup too soon.
Cleverley in the book
A race between Clever and Wilsh to get the red?
Fergie won't like this passage of play - United taking the foot off the gas.
Jonny Evans heads away an Arsenal free kick as he was Jonny on the spot.
Cleverly concedes a corner.
That header should have been buried!
Thanks Giroud
Phew!
Goruoud heads well wide off the corner.
Taking foot off the gas.... that is what this team does
That's why I am not a happy camper
USeless from Carrick.
That is true, UWS. I wish were three up.
Thankfully Arsenal have been shambolic.
Useless pass from Roon after a long spell of possession.
3-0 up? That's nothing. Why aren't United 8-0 up!
"neither side are playing well"
I totally agree and it's not good enough
Not one shot on target by the Gunners
USELESS pass by Rooney
Too short from Roon for Valencia.
Another hopeless pass.. this time by Rafa
THEY DRIVE ME NUTS!
Useless from Raffa, intended for Valencia.
Fergie doesn't look happy. He's heard that UWS has been reminiscing about the days of Ron Atkinson.
We seem to be thinking the same thing
Didn't Ramsey have a shot that De Gea was forced to save at his near post?
The hairdryer treatment for UWS?
Useless pass by Young
Useless Pass Convention
The hairdryer doesn't seem to do much these days
I think that was counted as a cross, not a shot. I think that is how the stattos do it.
A cross from Roon is headed out for a corner by Mertesacker/
Get a goal boys from the corner... PENALTY!!!!!!!!!
Penalty to United! Cazorla with a ridiculous block with both hands up. Silly boy.
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
PENALTY UNITED AS CARZOLA BLOCKS A SHOT FROM YOUNG WITH HIS ARMS. AM EASY DECISION FOR THE REF
It was just like Carrick midweek at Chelsea.. not given there
It is a real gray area..
Roon to take
Oh - Roon has put the penalty wide of the mark!!!!
BLOODY HELL!!
Hits the outside of the post
Roon sucks!!
DAMN IT!ROON SHOOTS THE PENALTY WIDE.
TAKE HIM OFF
Bring on Hernandez!
Why didn't RVP take the penalty?
I second that, UWS.
RVP needs to take them... roon can't hit the broad side of a barn
Coming up to half time
1-0 up but not good enough
We were actually lucky to get the penalty as it was a horrible short corner and we did not take advanatge
Agreed, UWS. A boot in the eye for UWS!
United have missed four of six penalties this season!
That's it
Half time
I don't care what Bob says but I am not happy
Halftime and United lead 1-0, but it's not good enough.
Shrewsbury have scored at Hereford , but the League One side trails the side from the Conference in a local derby Cup tie.
I don't like left footers taking penalties. My choice would be Patrice Evra. Fullbacks make great penalty takers.
Sure - what's to be happy about? Top of the league, top of the Champions League group. I'd be furious with my club!
United about to get us underway in the second half. Ian Darke isn't happy with the quality of the football.
The second half is underway from OT.
DO BETTER UNITED!
Agreed, BD, but not happy with the first half performance.
BLOODY HELL!Valencia misses an open goal after another mistake by Vermaelen as RVP laid it on a plate for Valencia.
Oh - another colossal mistake by Vermaelen who's having a 'mare today. And Valencia lets him off the hook. Wow!
Missed the start of the second.. matt says Valencia missed a sitter
Roon wins a corner off of Sagna
A poor corner from Roon is headed away. I agree with Ian that it is surprising that Theo has not come on.
My predictions:
1. United will go on to win 3-0.
2. UWS will not be happy.
Just saw it... BUGGER
Nice play by Young.. gets the ball over and NO ONE IS THERE!
I am happy with the start of the second
well wide by Carrick after a blocked shot
well wide by Carrick after a blocked shot
I am just being honest
That was a dangerous cross there.. no Gunner in the box now
Agreed UWS> Also agree that 3-0 is likely if we don;t miss any more golden opportunities.
Good ball over from Andy Two Saints but as usual Arsenal don't have a proper striker on the pitch.
As always!
Here is some food for thought. Cambridge City is still in the FA Cup, but not Cambridge United.
Finally...it's Theo time!
Just as Ian stated . Theo is on for Ramsey in an attacking move for the Gunners.
Just as Ian stated . Theo is on for Ramsey in an attacking move for the Gunners.
Oh - Giroud nearly made United pay for their profligacy.
PHEW! Giroud has a pass deflected off a nice pass from Carzola after a nice pass from Two Siants. It actually went into the side netting.
Did you see my comment about Cambridge Cuty
Wilshere is getting close to a second yellow. I'd pull him off if I were the Professor.
Rash by Jack on RVP. He's already in the book.
Never heard of Cambridge City.
The free kick from RVP and cross from Valencia are headed away
Well sated doctor, when talking about the professor.
Cambridge City held the Fake Dons to a draw last night while the bigger Cambridge United have already been knocked out of the cup.
I made a comment at the end of yesterday's post
I played at Cambridge City's stadium when i was playing for Safepac
We got to change in their dressing room, run out of the tunnel and we were about to run on the field and some bloke stopped us and said... you're not playing on this pitch.. you're playing on that one! He then pointed to this rink dinky field behind one of the goals... what a bummer!
Not a penalty this time. The ref got it right.
Cleverley close to winning the race to red
Great story, UWS> I wonder how far their stadium is from the Abbey.Definitely a smaller club. Sounds almost like an AYA pitch
Not a sole in the box for Valenca's cross
RVP in the book
Usless pass from Valencia after a superb pass from Carrick. Now RVP booked for a striker's challenge
Now it's RVP into the book. Fergie withdraws Cleverboy before he gets into any more trouble.
Looks like a photo finish between Jack and Cleverley. Never mind, Cleverley is disqualified from the race as he is replaced by Anderson, a UWS favorite.
I just checked the Cambridge City ground on Google Earth... the little field isn't there any more
I think I had my only foul throw-in at that field
The penalty area and side lines were about 2 feet way from each other... I picked the wrong line!
