A Sunday Double Header in Sunny London with not Much at Stake
It's A Sunday double header starting with Arsenal vs West Brom. The Gunners have clinched a CL spot while the Baggies hare all but safe as I expect the Canaries to lose the second match at SB and be all but down. It's a fairly Sunday in the Prem or is it? There is the second leg of the Conference semifinal playoffs as Cambridge United attempt to overturn a one goal deficit vs Halifax and Gateshead host Grimsby with the scores level.

The teams are out on the pitch at a sunny EM .
They're off from the EM
Just wide by Poldi as Giroud chested down a pass by Ozil
Caz has a shot deflected just over for a corner
GOAL !!! GIROUD HEADS IN OFF THE CORNER FROM CAZ.
Hey
I am around for some the festivities today
I was in the loo for Arsenal's opener
I have Cambridge's playoff second leg match on Radio Cambridgeshire. The U's were one down after the first leg. The second leg started the same time as the match at the Em.
Cambridge scored in the 11th minute
WAY HAY! Cambridge tie it up on agg as they take a 1-0 lead in the second leg.
Good morning UWS. Great to have you around. Did you miss a goal while on the bog?
Did you get Radio Cambridgeshire on line?
Yup
From the bbc website
Brunt clears out a cross for a Gunners corner taken by Caz and cleared.
It says that something else was on but it is the footer
Well done mate.
Great to know that Radio Cambridgeshire have their priorities straight.
Abu Diaby still with the Gunners?
Dorrans wins a corner off of Sagna.
Aaron Ramsey out injured, but it doesn't seem to have hurt the Gunners
Jim Morrison with an audacious chip from near the halfway line. More like the musician than the footie player
Great kick save by Foster from Flamini off a poor back header from a chip by Caz.
Dawson down after taking one in the bread basket off a rocket from Flamini
Sue Sue Suedio got away with one as he pushed a long range effort from Dorrans straight to Berahino, who blazed over as he was flagged offside. Then Berahino curled a shot about a foot over.
Foster did well tourn en effort from Caz around the post as Ozil played through the Nacho man
The corner was cleared/
Still 1-0 at the Abbey
Kos heads out a cross from Amalfitano for the Baggies first corner that is headed well over by Dawson
I would love top see the return of League Football at the Abbey. I passed by it many times during my formative years.
TWO NIL UNITED!!!!
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
Cambridge now 2-1 up on agg.
I was a bellboy there!!
Alan Biley stepped on my toe celebrating a goal
United beat Bury 4-0
Are you listening too?
Jin Morrison fouls Ozil about thirty yards out from goal.
I've got the Prem o the telly, the Conference on my iPhone and the World Snooker Final on the computer
I am not listening. I am following text updates.
You are the master multitasker and the sports affecianado.
Two minutes of stoppage time at the EM.
Nacho wins a Gunners corner.
Half time at the Em
Actually not watching it much
Foster punches away the corner and the halftime whistle blows as the Gunners lead 1-0 at the half.
Half time
So far so good for the U's
Going according to plan for Cambridge U as they have a 2-0 halftime lead and are 2-1 up on agg.
Morning, lads - I'm just getting down to it this morning after having a lie in. It's FredFest weekend and we were kept up late by all the students partying in the houses nearby.
The second half is underway from the EM
Good morning Bob. Great to have you around. Were you part of Fred Fest?
Morning BD
It was Spring Fling at Cortland this weekend too. Tom didn't want any part of it and came home for the weekend
Matt has a State Cup Quarter Final today at 1 pm
They are playing a team from NYC called PSG. Apparently, they one of the best in the state. The weather today is drizzle, wind and chilly
Just tried to take Shadow for a walk
Walking down the street, he just wanted to turn around!
what a wimp
No - I'm sure like Spring Fling at Cortland or "Brock the Port" at SUNY Brockport, the faculty are told to just clear out for the weekend.
Cambridge get the ball in the net but offside
Wishing Matt the best. I am sure you will be glad that summer is not far off. It's sunny and supposed to be near 90 here today. Fairly low humidity.
Why do players have to cheat and not put the ball in the arc of the corner?
I know that the rule now is that any part of the ball has to be over the line but WHY NOT JUST PUT THE BALLL INSIDE THE DAMN ARC
A shame because that would have given them better cushion.
On the ball City…never mind the danger
Good point, UWS. Do they really gain that much of an advantage?
It just bugs me
Just follow a SIMPLE rule
Our version of Fred Fest was Fred being content with a Sunderland win at OT.
I agree.
Well done Tom.
Fred must have been over the moon yesterday after Sunderland basically secured their Premiership safety.
So Arsenal have won the Wenger Cup once again. Is that progress for them? Will Gooners be happy if they win the Cup on top of that?
One game in the Scottish Premiership
Bottom club Hearts hosting second bottom Kilmarnock
A win for Killie would lift them out of the relegation playoff spot and drop Ross County down
Hearts are long gone but have not lost since March
I think some Gooners will be because that is a double of a sort, but it was a season that promised so much more.
Fred seemed pretty content about it. Yellows not so much.
Celtic squeaked the title this season
They only managed to sneak by Aberdeen by THIRTY POINTS!!!!
The playoffs
Hamilton fresh off a 10-2 win face Falkirk and the second from bottom Prem team face Queen of the South.
Arsenal must feel confident as Kim Kallstrom gets a run out, on for Arteta.
First booking of the match as Nacho grabs a hold of Sess.
Apparently, the Scottish League isn't done.
There seems to be two more games on the docket so it isn't decided at all
Celtic must be exhausted after such a grueling season!
The lower divisions are done, but there is a round of matches in midweek, then it concludes next weekend, followed by the playoffs.
That 10-2 win almost had the Accies over take Dundee!
Liverpool could do that in their next two games
Rangers won their division by THIRTY NINE POINTS!
It was Academic as Dundee got the win they needed and beat the Accies by two points. The Accies are resigned to the playoffs against a team that finished a point behind them
Nacho and Berahino down. Nacho seemed at fault.
I know but if Dundee only won 2-1 and there was some squeaky bum time !
Great crowd at the Abbey Stadium today
Rosicky on for Caz.
it was definitely nail biting time. The Dundee Derby will replace the Edinburgh Derby in the SPL.
Nail biting time at the Abbey and in Glendale?
Dawson heads wide from a corner.
Remy in attendance… joining next season?
Remy to sign for the Gunners? He's got a top class seat.
Both teams playing as if they want the final whistle to blow.
Just wide by Ozil as the ball broke to him after ping pong in the Baggies box.
Pod has a weak effort that hits the post
Off the post by Poldi and into Foster's arms off a poor defensive clearance.
18 minutes left off the Newmarket Road
It was sliced with the outside of the boot.
It would be nice to see another Cambridge goal
Just noticed there is a link for the Cambridge match
Vermaelen on for Nacho and Anichebe for Amalfitano.
Lovely… I now have a video of the match at the Abbey Stadium… about 15 seconds ahead of my radio
BOY has the away end changed!!!
It was considered unsafe by my virus protection.
The home stand… where I ballboyed is still a small stand!!
Why be nice to the visitors
I guess it has been modernized.
Ozil fouled just outside the box by Berahino.
The stand used to be really small but now the away end is a huge stand!
A weak free kick by Ozil easily caught by Foster. Chris Brunt talked himself into the book.
|I wouldn't think away goals count in this playoff… at least not until after extra time
Really naughty behavior.
Away goals do not count in the playoffs.
I know there were just fields… in fact.. I think vegetable gardens behind the away stand
Newmarket Road an the entrance would stop them building up the home stand
Vydra on for Mulumbu as Pepe Mel has borught on two strikers
I thought I remembered the stadium being in a residential are in the city. Are the fields gone?
Inside the last ten minutes
The commentator said it would go to pens
So, no away goal rule in play
Hearts take the lead vs Killie as they seem intent on playing the roll of spoiler.
Correct. That's true for the other divisional playoffs too.
As you came into the City, it was on your left with the home stand close to the road. The road then went to the left and you then went parallel to the ground
The EM sounds a lot like the Highbury Library. I can even hear the birds chirping in my back yard.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Come on Cambridge UNiTED
Our other two UNITEDS have been crap this year!!!
Anichebe's only goals have been against the top three teams.
Sounds like this season's Old Trafford too
Giroud and Dorrans booked for afters
Agreed about the Uniteds.
Your description is what I pictured except for the fields. Otherwise, it matches what I was visualizing.
Did you hear the comment yesterday after Citeh's win that they are top but have only been there for EIGHT days this season!
Arsenal win… ho-hum
Stoppage time at the Abbey?
SIX added minutes in Cambridge
It's 1-0 to the Arsenal in a boring match. If Chelsea win, which they should it shouldn't matter to either the Ginners or the Baggies.
BUGGER!!! Were there injuries?
Hope it doesn't go to extra time
Cambridge players are dropping like flies with cramp
Not really
Arsenal have 76 points, their best points total in six years.
Me too.
BLOW UP REF!
Keeper coming up for the Shayman corner
cleared
Two minutes remaining.
HOLD ON CAMBRIDGE!
Cambridge break but fouled and it is free kick… time to waste
Goal kick to Halifax
90 secs to go
NOt a smart free kick by Cambridge
Cambridge just booting it straight up in the air!
GET IT OUT
Long throw in coming in
Shot blocked
Cleared
In again
Halifax have another chance… cleared
IT IS OVER
Cambridge are going to Wembley…for the second time this season
WAY HAY!
THEY'RE GOING TO WMBUHLAY!
Crowd on the pitch… come on Untied… win the final!
You deserve to go up
They will face either Grimsby or Gateshead in the final. That will be decided later this morning
Hearts go two up vs Killie.
THe will take on Gateshead or Grimsby who play later today. Tied at 1
No Hazard for Chelsea today
Put on the bench for badmouthing Jose's tactics midweek
That's right… Chelsea have lost two in a row at the Bridge!!
Will Chelsea take over top spot today?
I'm back for the late one, lads. Anyone else around?
Gooner71 is certainly not happy with this season, high points total or no. He wants Wenger shifted out for a younger manager.
Hello Bob. I will be around for the late one.
The team news out of Stamford Bridge this afternoon:
Chelsea: Schwarzer; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole; Lampard, Matic; Salah, Willian, Schürrle; Ba. Subs: Hilario, Kalas, David Luiz, Van Ginkel, Hazard, Torres, Eto’o.
Norwich City: Ruddy; Martin, R Bennett, Turner, Whittaker; Snodgrass, Tettey, Johnson, Howson, Olsson; Elmander. Subs: Bunn, Bassong, van Wolfswinkel, Fer, Hooper, E Bennett, Redmond.
Referee: Neil Swarbrick.
I actually agree with Jose. No player is bigger than the team. He needs to keep his mouth shut and worry about playing, not coaching. That type of behavior is a Hazard to his Chelsea career.
Great to have you on board, MUR. Chelski would go top again with an expected win today.
I don't expect Chelsea to make it three on the trot. Sorry Yellows.
Nothing more than a win will do for Norwich today. Yet, they've gone with Johan Elmander up front alone. Where's Becchio?!
Ta, bob. They could and Pool are not guaranteed a win at Crystal Pulis.
I guess they have lost confidence in Becks. I would go with Hooper. He's their tops corer despite being around for only a half season. At the rate he's scoring he would have finished with a dozen goals if he'd been around the whole season.
I am around for a bit
I have to take Matt to his match
Off to attempt a walk with Shadow again.. he wasn't pleased with the drizzle and wind on the first attempt
back just in time for the late match
Sparky loves the cooler weather. Not a fan of the hot weather.
We're away from the Bridge - go on, you Canaries!
Hearts three up vs Killie at the half. They should have done this earlier in the season.
Don't Call Me Shirley with an early pop at goal.
Killie in the dreaded playoff spot, three points from safety and looking set to face queen of the South in the playoffs.
What's Cashley trying to do with his hair these days?
Cashley wins a corner. Ba down injured.
Demba is down for the count. Something happened off the ball and he's miming an elbow.
I love it. Canaries fans giving Lamps stick as the corner was headed away then offside was called.
Hazard could sure use an elbow to the chops.
Norwich doing a lot of defending right from the start.
It'll be enjoyable to welcome our former midfield back to the Championship at Elland Road next season.
WAY HAY! LEVANTE TAKE THE LEAD VS ATHLETICO!
I'm sure you're looking forward to it. I have a feeling Malky will be in charge of the former LUFC midfield players.
Olsson down and that should have been a penalty and a red card either to JT Or Cashley. Yellows will not be pleased.
Hearts four up vs Killie, who look set to face Queen of the South in the playoffs.
Snoddy getting treatment for a nose bleed.
Chelski not reslly pressing forward for an opener.
Russell Martin sure felt it as he blocked a shot from Schurrle Temple.
What's Chelskilad's opinion of Mourinho these days, UWS?
Gooner will be hoping for a Canaries win as the Gunners have a very slim chance of finishing third
Bag for only a few ticks until I have to leave again!
Hearts FIVE up vs Killie.
Think he stills like him
What if he wins them nowt this season?
Decent cross from Olsson, but Snoddy , well marked, could not connect
A really tedious attack from Willian through Ba...and out.
Jose used to sport smart Italian suits on the touchline. Now he's in trackies and casual shirtsleeves. What happened?
What can he win this season? Won't not if.
not sure about his fashion sense.
Well, only the title now. It's still on.
JT heads a corner straight to Ruddy,
That's true. Thanks for reminding me. I guess I'm still in the PPP race
Neil Adams has made the same fashion change as Jose.
IT will be an unusually interesting promotion race to the SPL next season as both Hearts and Rangers will be in the mix
I am off boys
Have a good day
Cheerio, mate! Enjoy it!
Norwich defending a lot more steadfastly than they have in recent weeks.
Jose will not be pleased. will he bring on Hazard at the half?
Cheers UWS. Have fun.
OH ! OFf the post by SCHurrle Temple and desperately cleared.
Matic won the ball and fed Schurrle , who turned a defender then nearly scored.
The Canaries giving Chelsea a taste of their own medicine.
The problem is that if that one goal does come for Chelski (if Shirley's goal had gone in off the post, say) then I don't think that the Canaries have a Plan B.
Ruddy holds on to a powerful shot from Schurrle Temple.
True. The Canaries just don't have the talent for Plan B.
Well over from Cashley from long range . Poor.
Snoddy has a shot deflect off of JT for a corner. decent effort.
Ivanovic heads away the corner then Olsson volleys wildly wide.,
