The End of the Road in the Championship
It's the last day in the Championship this morning. A number of things have already been sorted out. Leicester are champions, Burnley will go up second and Derby, QPR and Wigan are all in the playoffs. That leaves one playoff left for Reading, Brighton and, theoretically, Blackburn.
At the wrong end of the table, Yeovil and Barnsley are already down to League 1 before today. They'll be joined by Birmingham, Doncaster, Millwall or, theoretically, Blackpool. Join me from 7:15am onward for promises to be a fascinating morning.

Good morning Bob. I am watching Reading vs Burnley,.
Morning, MUR - I don't have access to BEin over at Kate's place, so I've got Soccer Saturday up.
I've just come back to the couch with a cuppa and Leeds are already 1-0 down at Derby. Bugger!
Wally in a Brolly's lads are in the lead at ER. Sorry Bob. I guess you will be celebrating the end of the season in a couple of hours.
Blackburn are also 1-0 up. They would need a Reading loss and a six goal turnaround in order to qualify for the playoffs. It's theoretically possible but hard to imagine.
Blackburn in the lead vs Wigan. That could have huge implications in the playoffs.
I will be, mate. I'm wondering how long Brian will last before walking the plank.
GOAL !!! READING TAKE THE LEAD ON A COUNTER THAT STARTED IN THEIR OWN BOX. SIMILAR TO CHELSEA'S LAST WEEK. JOBI MACANUFF PUT IN A CROSS AND KIERAN TRIPPIER PUT INTO HIS OWN NET.
Two quick goals at Ewood Park and it's 2-1 Blackburn. Lots of goals flying in but Blackburn could have used a clean sheet.
Reading have scored against Burnley, which looks to make them safe in the playoffs.
Burnley had a shot blocked as they were attempting to take the lead and seconds later Reading score!
Really two quick goals at Ewood Park.
GOAL !!! 1-1 SCOTT ARFIELD TIES IT UP FOR BURNLEY
The early Premiership match is about to start:
West Ham: Adrian, Demel, Tomkins, Reid, McCartney, Noble,
Taylor, Diame, Nolan, Downing, Carroll. Subs: Jarvis, Armero,
Vaz Te, Collins, Jaaskelainen, Carlton Cole, Nocerino.
Spurs: Lloris, Naughton, Dawson, Kaboul, Rose, Lennon,
Paulinho, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Adebayor, Kane. Subs: Chiriches,
Soldado, Friedel, Sandro, Fryers, Bentaleb, Pritchard.
Referee: Phil Dowd (Staffordshire)
That will give Blackburn some slight hope but it's really tough for them.
No goals yet in the matches involving the bottom sides.
Brighton are 0-1 down at Forest - what drama!
Nigel Adkins will be livid. Reading fell asleep at a short free kick taken by Michael Kightly. Dean Marney put in a pass that was not cleared and Scott Arfield blasted home from close range.
Morning boys
I am up and already showered!!!
I have Soccer Saturday on and the Prem on the TV… no BEIN for me
BUGGER!! I was hoping for Brighton to take advantage. As things stand Brighton will be in the playoffs if they defeat Forest instead of Reading.
Good morning UWS. Great to have you on board.
Hammers fans in full voice today at Upton Park.
Morning, UWS - how are you, mate?
I think I want Spurs to pip United for the EL
I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles being sung at Upton Park… here comes the teams.
West Ham has already beaten Spurs twice this season
I'm doing well
Thank god the stupid State Test are done
Of course, the algebra class I teach has to take TWO regents exams in June… CC and Integrated Algebra
Merse screams GOAL…NO OFFSIDE… Brighton
Goal at Reading… Burnley have come all the way back and now winning.
SS shows the goals…. lovely!!!!
Burnley are 1-2 up - lots of action at the top of the division!
Damn… just lost the link
GOAL !!! DANNY INGS NOW HAS BURNLEY 1-2 UP AT READING.
They're off from Upton Park
Off in London
A goal somewhere… to Millwall
Lovely glancing header
Charlie Nicholas is yelling again. Millwall have scored. Lots of pressure on Donny and Brum now.
Burnely won a loose ball in midfield. Dean Marney passed to Ings and he turned 180 degrees to place a shot in the corner.
Fat Sam on the bench looking as dour as the football on display from his side these days.
Birmingham have their point they need so far at the Reebok but they need the Donny lose at the Champions…they want 100 points
Admit it, boys - the Championship is a really exciting league.
Boro have scored away to Yeovil.
Not a lot to play for at Upton Park today.
Middlesborugh in the lead at already relegated Yeovil
Blackburn have scored again! They're certainly doing everything they need to do today. They now need Reading to lose plus a three goal swing.
Blackburn 3-1up vs Wigan. Too little too late for Rovers?
strange about Brums record. Only two home wins, but nine away wins. I guess it's lucky for them that their key game is away against a team that has nothing to play for.
Blackburn really going for it. If they hadn't conceded that silly goal, they'd be three up and flying with Reading involved in a competitive one against Burnley.
Big Nick Zigic has had it in the net but it's been ruled out for a push.
Blackburn 3-1 up.. they need just a few more goals and could go up
What happened at Bolton with Brum?
Ipswich take the lead at home to Wednesday…on Saturday
Bob will be delighted to hear that the Tractor Boyz have taken the lead vs Not a Big Club.
Yeovil tie it up vs Middlesbrough. Too little too late.
The still is a 4 goal gap between Reading and Blackburn
Balckburn need a four goal swing.
Lovely jubbly - the Tractor Boys have taken the lead against Not a Big Club.
Congrats on the state tests being finished. We end STAAR testing on Wednesday, but there are two weeks of AP testing. Fortunately, I do not teach any of those classes.
It could happen, you know. Seven goals already in both matches.
Blackburn would have the advantage if that four goal swing tied up if they score another
Reading GF 69 GA 56
Blackburn GF 68 GA 59
Goals scored comes after GD, correct?
Lots of parents "opting out" of state tests in NYS. Any of that in Texas, MUR?
Absolutely correct, UWS.
None of that in Texas, but they were supposedly influential in getting the number of tests reduced from fifteen to five. It's been called " The Dumbing Down of Texas."
1-3 Boro now; strange that there have been so many goals in a meaningless match.
QPR two nil up at Barnsley
Boro already 3-1 up at Yeovil… goals everywhere…. except for the two VERY important games in Leicester and Bolton
QPR are 0-1 up now. They're already in the playoffs.
Evil QPR two up at Barnsley and Middlesbrough 1-3 up at Yeovil. It doesn't matter in either match
I'd love the Dumbing down of NY
Great save by Alex MCCarthy on a Burnely break off a Reading corner. That keeps Reading in this match
Part of that is that Algebra II is no longer required for graduation in some graduation plans. You make a good point.
Yeah - it is noticeable that it's the matches at the bottom that haven't any goals.
State tests are just such a waste of time
90% of my students don't put any value in the test at all!
Halftime at the Madjeski and credit to Burnley who are taking this seriously despite having nothing to play for.
No goals at Watford either
Ours are forced to because they cannot graduate without passing them!
COME ON YOU SEAGULLS!
Do you want Brum to do down or Donny?
I think I want the bigger club to stay up
Surely Leicester will score eventually… in the end(Manuel reference)
That is true… if Brighton score a solitary goal at Forest, they will be in the in the playoff spot
That third relegation spot is undecided. Only Ian Holloway's Evil Lions have scored, but it could prove to be a crucial goal.
Tomasz Kuszczak the ex United player was at fault in the net for Brighton
It could be Millwall or the Tangerines. I would want the Evil Lions to go down if the Cherries could mount a comeback
Free kick for West Ham as Downing is breaking in at goal. There were three players running with him… Kabul brings him down… Dowd takes his time… RED CARD
Bad news for United? Manchester that is
The free kick is inside the D of the box
Kaboul off for afoul on Downing on the break on Downing . The correct decision as it denied a goal scoring opportunity. What took Phil Dowd so long ?
Decent effort from Carroll… saved
Lloris superbly tips over the free kick from Andy Carroll.
Carroll has scored from the resulting corner!!!
GOAL ANDY CARROLL HEADS THE HAMMERS INTO THE LEAD OFF THE CORNER OFF MULTIPLE DEFLECTIONS.
That Carroll header was deflected by the Spurs defender… will it be at Carroll goal
It should go down as a Harry Kane OG as he headed into his own net off the Andy Carroll header
A great chance for United to claim that last EL spot.
I dont' want it!!
I am off to the loo
It's great to see Andy Carroll back in the goals.
The second halfs are about to start up again in the Championship.
What would Giggsy say about that?
The goal went down as a Harry Kane OG
Do you lot want out of the Europa?
Hudders take the lead at Watford , but it doesn't really matter
UWS does, but Giggsy and Yours Truly don't mind.
As things stand, if the Cherries can come from behind then the Evil Lions would down thanks to a horrible goal difference.
Lloris superbly tips a volley by Matty Taylor around the post as it's a Hammer's onslaught.
Middlesbrough 1-4 up at Yeovil
I reckon you always want European nights for your supporters.
Im back… no changes in the second half yet
BRIGHTON HAVE SCORED!!
THEY ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS
WAY LEEDS TIE IT UP AT ER!
Goal at the City Ground - Brighton have scored!
1-1!
Leeds have tied it up.. Smiffy with the goal
Goal at Elland Road! It's an equalizer! Big Matty Smith with his 13th of the season.
WAY HAY! WAY TO GO YOU SEAGULLS! If Athletico win the CL and Benfica the EL then I'm in with a shout
From the Beeb
Tony: Are Donny the worlds luckiest football team? League One champions last year with record low points. Staying up this year with only 45?
Hudders two at Watford, but it doesn't really matter
TWO NIL HAMMERS!!!
Downing scores from the free kick… straight thru the wall
GOAL! Downing puts the Hammers 2-0 up from a free kick!
Hudders has scored twice at Vicarage Road
Useless free kick by Downing but the wall was even worse
GOAL !!! DOWNING PUTS THE HAMMERS TWOUP WITH AV FREE KICK THROUGH THE WALL. A PATHETIC SPURS WALL./
West Ham fans should be singing
We want to play you every week!!
Wednesday tie it up at Portman Road
oh! jUST wide by Andy Carroll
Barnsley goal at QPR
Goal at the Reebok…. to BOLTON
BRUM ARE IN MAJOR TROUBLE!
Decent effort by Li
Barnsley pull one back vs QPR, but trail 1-2
Brum are going down for sure. Sad to see.
Wigan pull one back at Ewood Park as they trail Rovers 3-2. As things stand, it doesn't matter
The Donny fans go potty at Leicester with no goal scored
Blackburn have let a goal in.. not good for GD
Desmond at Reading… their back in the playoffs…. decent effort again
Half time at Upton Park
Charlton take the lead at Blackpool but they're still safe
Reading with a big turnaround now. A goal for them against Burnley. And Wigan have got another goal back at Charlton.
GOAL !!! DESMOND AT THE MADJESKI.
Charlton take the lead at Blackpool
Charlton are 0-1 up at Blackpool now. Still - Blackpool are basically safe.
I am pissed at Desmond, but it was a lovely volley. A long free kick by Morrison at the halfway line was headed on and Gareth McLeary hammered home a volley from just outside the box in the upper 90.
I just dozed off for a sec and typed a whole load of "f's" LOL!
Brum need two goals or for the Foxes to take the lead vs Donny.
I just checked the table . Am I correct that the Seagulls are in sixth , ahead of Rovers on goal difference?
COME ON WIGAN!
I love that new Hammers song. I due Johnno does too.
Hudders three up at Vicarage Road.
Super Super Kev
Super Super Kev
Super Super Kev
Super Kevin Phillips
Just been substituted and he has officially retired at the age of 40
The Terriers are THREE up at the Hornets
BLOW UP YOU REFS!
WHy do you want he ref to blow up?
Reading are in the spot because of Desmond
He's with the Foxes? Congrats on a fantastic career
there's a Ross Mac at Reading too!
Reading in fifth , my Seagulls in sixth ahead of Rovers on gd. I'll take it.
Bob will be pleased that the Tractor Boys are 2-1 up vs Not a Big Club.
Nope - Reading are in 6th, a point above Brighton who are edging Blackburn out of 7th on GD.
Ipswich retake the lead
Rovers vs Wigan is more important than Reading vs Burnley
Bob's right
5th Wigan 73
6th Reading 71
7th Brighton 70
8th Blackburn 70
Ipswich now 2-1 up over Not a Big Club who once again will finish below us.
They just updated the tables. You lot are correct. I need another Brighton goal or Burnley goal.
DON'T BLOWUP.
QPR get their two goal lead back
Evil QPR 1-3 up at Barnsley.
bloody desmond. hE SHOULD HAVE HAD A WEE BITY MORE KIP.
COME ON BURNLEY!
I'm going to say it again
WELL DONE NBC… A JOB WELL DONE!!
They go to the stadium WAY before kick offs
The second half is underway at Upton Park.
FSC would still be at commercial when the ball is kicked off
PENALTY FOR THE FOXES
Spurs doing their best to avoid the EL and the Hammers look set to be on 40 points.
The Champions take the lead
Over to you BLUE NOSES
Leicester have a penalty - they could really put the cat amongst the pigeons.
Nugent scores!
1-0 Foxes.
brum will be pleased.
PHEW! Pav Pogs has a shot cleared off the line.
Donny in a relegation spot?
no
Brum need to get a point to drop them in
oh dear… TWO NIL BOLTON
NOpe and Bolton two up vs Brum . Great kick save by the Burnley keeper from McLeary.
Exactly, UWS. Brum must push forward for that elusive goal.
Brum need two goals. I don't see that happening.
GOAL! Zigic has got one back! What drama in the Championship!
Birmingham are going down!!
They took off Lindgard sp? the United Loanee cuz he was hopeless!
Macheda not doing well either
BRUM GET A GOAL BACK!!
STILL HOPE
Great excitement… why aren't americans watching what it like to see relegation
Brum make it interesting as they pull one back. Now they need another to be safe.
Charlton two up at Blackpool
They almost scored again
Charlton two up at Bloomfield Road
The bloke who interviewed me was fascinated by relegation and promotion. He wanted to see it in American leagues.
I LOVE THE END OF THE SEASON!
Then I hate the day after… and the two months that follow
Bringing on Macheda on is the correct move. He has been in great scoring form. The only problem is that he is the only one.
Love to hear more about that interview
At least we have the WC this year.
Brum won the League Cup just a few years ago
Blackburn extend their lead
Blackburn are 4-2 up now - it's purely academic. Blackburn are not going up.
Me too. we desperately need promotion and relegation in the American pyramid system
I prefer league play to WC… it used to be more exciting for me but some of the tactics of the International game bugs me
Playing not to lose
About fifteen minutes left for Brighton and Birmingham to change things.
THAt's what I was thinking, Bob/.
Strange how a LONG SEASON CAN COME DOWN TO ONE GOAL.
I still love a big tournament. Once the season is over, I'll be starting up my usual team by team previews.
It always happens… there is going to be an injury time goal that changes it everywhere… will it be at the top of the table or the bottom
West Ham almost went three up… great save
Head tennis off a Reading corner and the Burnely keeper saves a header from Pearce.
I hope it's from the Seagulls.
Speaking of the Prem
Extraordinary that the Premier League could have three leaders in the three separate days this weekend
Citeh win today… Top
Chelsea win tomorrow… Top
Liverpool win on Monday.. .Top
Really dramatic . Then Citeh win Wednesday ... Top
HUdders four up at Vicarage Road.
Huddersfield have scored a fourth!
Credit to Burneley for taking this match seriously when they have nothing to play for.
Bolton almost wrap it up but saved
Wigan pull one back , but trail 4-3 at Ewood Park.
Brighton denied by the Forest keeper
Charlton three up at the Tangerines.
Blackpool 3 down at home… that isn't a way to perform when you were exactly safe going into the last day
BUGGER!!!
Three minutes of stoppage time at the Madjeski.
I am going to be watching the match at St James' Park in the 69th minute
A mass walk out is expected to protest
69th minute because it was 1969 they last won a trophy
