One Step Closer to the Title?
Moneybags Citeh can today take one more step closer to the title by polishing off Villa at the Etihad. In truth, Villa have very little other than pride to play for. But you never know in this funny old game, do you. In the other Premiership match this afternoon, Sunderland can gain safety and all but doom Norwich today by winning at the Stadium of Light against West Brom. The Baggies aren't entirely safe either, so that one could be tasty. Join me for all the action from 2:45pm onward.

Subs: Richards, Lescott, Negredo, Clichy, Fernandinho, Pantilimon, Jovetic
Villa: Guzan; Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Baker, Bertrand; El Ahmadi, Westwood, Delph, Bowery; Weimann.
Subs: Bacuna, Steer, Sylla, Tonev, Holt, Robinson, Grealish.
Teams coming out of the tunnel now - the usual spectacular NBC coverage.
Good afternoon Bob. Citeh fans could be celebrating with vanilla ice cream or it could be down to three teams on Championship Sunday.
A Sunderland win does doom Norwich . I don't see the Canaries getting a nineteen goal swing to save themselves.
They're off from the Etihad.
Arlo and LeSaux on the mics today. Villa get us underway in a Manc Monsoon tonight.
Afternoon, MUR. Great to have you on board today.
Cheers Bob. Great to be on board with you.
I will be in and out. My students are working on a review for a test, so I will be checking periodically to see if they need help./
Makes sense - go to it!
Decent start from Citeh - Guzan just beat out an acute angled shot by Kolarov.
Villa definitely parking the bus early doors.
Citeh with a great start from what I've seen. Still early doors. Still 0-0 in the other match
The only good result for Norwich is a Baggies win. Otherwise they are doomed due to a massively inferior goal difference,.
Guzan uncharacteristically fumbles a cross.
Villa still camping in the Citeh half . They might as well pitch a tent and starting eating vanilla ice cream cones. Great block by Guzan/.
That makes sense.
I believe that Citeh merely need four points from the last two matches, given their superior GD, unless Liverpool go on a goal riot on Sunday.
Chelski would need a Liverpool loss and for Citeh to only get a point from the last two. Remote.
Jack Colback has given Sunderland the lead and as things stand the Canaries need to0 defeat the Gunners 9-0 on Sunday and have the Baggies lose by the same score in order to survive.
Agreed on both counts, Bob. Spot on.
Jordan of the Bowery getting treatment due to a nosebleed.
Hearts already releagted, ending the season in great form, take the lead vs Partick Thistle , who are in the race to avoid the dreaded playoff spot.
Villa have done a fine job in this first half keeping Citeh's attack at bay. But lots of pressure.
Bowery is definitely in at the deep end tonight.
I would love to see a draw in this match today, just to make it interesting on Sunday.
Nasri tries a pop from the top of the box. Always sailing over.
I would too. That would be great
I still remember fondly the last day two years ago with the "AGUEROOOO" moment. Marvelous stuff for the neutrals.
Killie take the lead vs St. Mirren. As things stand , any one of four teams will be trying to avoid the dreaded playoff spot in the final matches of the season on Saturday.
Dreadful for United fans.,
Kieran Clark is a vastly improved defender from last season. Great tackle there.
A moment that I am trying to suppress.
Hey, with the way that Spurs usually wilt on the final day, you lot may still get into the Europa for next season.
I doubt it. They need to defeat the Vanillas AND we need to win at St. Mary's. I don't see both happening.
A rare Villa attack and Al Ahmedy had a chance to give Villa the lead. Poor finish
Sunderland have gone two up.
You asked on FB last night after I'd gone to bed who I'd keep in the Leeds squad for next year. Here they are:
1. Kenny
12. Ashdown
25. Byram
4. Lees
32. Dawson
6. Murphy
36. Alex Mowatt
20. Smith
44. McCormack
37. Walters
That is, the youth players and those who have shined this season. Otherwise, a clear out.
Borini with the goal.
Thanks Bob. Sounds like we feel similar about our Uniteds.
Yeah - at least your United finished 7th or maybe 6th. Mine finished 15th!
Great Villa counter and Weimann has a shot blocked for a corner.
Weimann nearly caught Citeh there. Shanked it left. Oh - deflected. Corner.
Good point, Bob.
A squad as talented as ours massively underachieved.
Citeh starting to look a bit nervy and the crowd is restless with ten minutes left.
Definitely underperformance. You should have finished in the top four.
Villa at least stringing a few attacks together now.
Correct. That is the bare minimum, rebuilding or not.
Hey Guys
I am here
Welcome, UWS - how are you, mate?
Sunderland are two up and will be safe
Norwich will down…unless they beat the Arse 20 nil
I'm okay
It's been another long day and I have tutor tonight but not college
I'd like to see that match - Gooner would not. ;-)
Did you read my comments about the end of the match yesterday?
Absolutely FANTASTIC by NBC
Didn't go to commercial… stayed at the ground until the speeches and lap were done
Are you doing APPR nonsense right now?
Several students are asking for updates. They are shocked that it is still 0-0
Didn't see it but well done, NBC. They've definitely exceeded expectations this season.
Citeh fans holding their heads in their hands now. Nearly half time.
Good afternoon, UWS. It would be a seventeen goal swing. A combination of a Norwich win and Baggies loss be seventeen goals would do it. It won't happen.
Lovely - you've indoctrinated them well, mate.
Won't happen but it would be fun to watch!
I didn't see it because I am at work. It's the passing period between classes. My last class is about to come in
I think they were already partially there, but thanks, mate.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Three minutes of stoppage time now....
Yes, I have to hand in my binder of "evidence' in a couple of weeks
Just wide by Nasri
That's a big miss
Oh - that was the best chance of the half! Milner with a great ball in and Nasri blows the volley wide.
Nasri just missed a sitter. Volleyed wide from three yards out
What a bunch of bollocks that APPR is.
This next year will be the first year in about 20 years of teaching that I won't have to hand in a binder for review.
I am sure the balance of the evidence will be in your favor, UWS
Half time
The red half of Liverpool have hope
It's 0-0 at the half.
Ronaldo had to go off with a reoccurrence of his hammy injury in Real's game in hand match at Valladolid. Still scoreless
North of the Border
Killie are one up against St. Mirren
Motherwell two up against Cally
St. Johnstone one up against Celtic!
Hearts are gone but with one game to go
Partick Thistle have 35 -21
Hibs 35 -19
Killie 36 -22
Ross County 37 -19
One game to go
Final day fixtures
Hibs vs Killie
Partick v Ross
Not counting Hearts, the next bottom four play each other
WHat a run by Sunderland
Going for their fourth straight win and drawing at Citeh
BTW, that late Citeh goal that went thru the arms of the Sunderland keeper could have won the league for Citeh too
One hour preview on Saturday evening at 5:30
1 hour pre-game on CNBC on Sunday
Matches all over the networks
Have I said well done NBC before???
They've done marvelously well and deserve more of a grandstand finish than they'll probably get. Will there be anything up for grabs by Sunday?
I don't think there will be
What a shame that NBC's first year will be a dud at the end of the season
All the excitement of the relegation is done!
I'd have loved to see WBA having to visit Anfield with Liverpool needing to get a boat load of goals and WB can't afford to let them in… I know it is too far but!!
Our resident Real fan in class is happy that they are one up at Valladoid. If Real win their last three matches and if Barca defeat Athletico on the final day of the season then Real win La Liga.
We're off at the Etihad
Real have taken the lead at the stroke of half time
Doesn't Liverpool play Newcastle on Sunday
Yup
That is why it is tough for Barca to win the title
We're back on at the Etihad then.
Yup they do… i was just saying that it would hurt WBA if they lost big
Newcastle will lose big but it doesn't matter
west Brom hosts Stoke on Sunday. Sparky's lads won't score a boatload of goals. Four vs the Cottagers is about the best you can expect out of them
Big shout for handball behind the Villa goal there. No dice.
It will be tough for Athletico too. La Liga's title race is very similar to the one in the Prem/
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I agree with you about the Toon.
Big ball over the top for Dzeko but the Bosnian statue couldn't trap it.
Partick tie it up at Hearts that drops Hibs in the relegation play off spot
In Spain, if they all win in their penultimate game, then I think AM would need a point at Barca on the last day
If they lose and Real win, Real will win
If they Barca win and Real don't.. they will be Champs… I think
If teams are tied, it is head to head not GD
St. John missed a pen and a sitter and now have been pegged back to 1-1 against next year's champions!
Fab Delph picks up a yellow and now Citeh have a free kick opportunity.
Decent free kick.. after a decent tackle from Delph… well saved by Big Brad
Great hit by Kolarov and save by Guzan!
Nasri with a free kick out wide left now. Cleared out. Twice.
Players act so badly for free kicks and players are stupid challenges… where are all the smart and good sport men
Nearly an hour up now and Pellegrini has to start thinking about a change or two to mix things up.
Every Liverpool fan will be hanging on to every moment here.
Raining
It's not raining, it's Manchester crying!
They will be if Villa break and score
Bacuna on for the debutant Bowery. He might be a useful outlet for Villa.
The rain is really teeming down now. Milner off and Jovatic on for more pure strike power.
I'm back from helping students and it's still 0-0/
Bowery is not s debutant. He scored an OG Saturday vs Hull City and has played several times.
My bad. I should know better than to challenge an anorak such as yourself MUR.
GOAL
JERKO WITH THE GOAL THAT COULD BRING THE TITLE TO MANCHESTER
GOAL! It's Dzeko...again! Citeh almost there now.
GOAL !!! CITEH TAKE THE LEAD. IMISSED THE GOPAL BUT SAW JERKO CELEBRATING IN THE RAIN
Partick now lead Hearts and playing themselves safe after they were in the play off spot
I t appears that the title is headed to the Etihad.
This means that if Hibs don't win on Saturday, they will go in the playoff and Edinburgh could have no team in the top tier of the Scottish football
Has that ever happened… it's the bloody capital
That playoff looks to be a four horse race on the final day of the season. For once some excitement in the SPL>
Killie in the playoff spot at this time and they must win or else face the dreaded playoffs.
It also appears that the Shield is heading to Georgetown.
I think that would be horrible for the Scottish league
Partick 2-4 up at Hearts,
The shield does appear to be headed that way
What would be horrible for the Scottish League. If it's Hibs. They are not in the playoff spot.
GOAL! 2-0 Citeh - Dzeko has a brace!
Two nil
Jerko with his second
Great save by Brad but knocked in
It's Zabaleta again who killed Villa with the overlap. Dzeko had the easiest of jobs there. Shadow and/or Sparky could have scored that one.
GOAL !!! CITEH GO TWO UP.GUZAN SAVED FROM JERKO THEN HE PUT AWAY HIS OWN REBOUND
True Bob.Fred could have too.
Now it's Jovatic who skips through Villa's defense before being brought down.
Dunno about that. Cats hate football in my experience.
I guess I need to start mailing the Shield to Georgetown unless Villa can mount a Palace style comeback.
OH! the Free kick from Yaya was deflected for a corner.
Fred has played footie with some of his cat toys.
The original shot was from Silva and Jerko was there to tap it in
Well, hang on to it until after the Champions League Final. Still plenty of points to be doled out between now and then. But I reckon that ten point advantage may be crucial for Johnno.
UWS was correct about Spain. Head to head is the tie breaker ,not gd. Athletico have the advantage over Real , so Real would need Barca to defeat Athletico on the final day of the season to have any hope.
Silva is withdrawn for the match on Sunday now.
Sorry UWS. I don't have the best quality . Thanks for the clarification.
Partick 4-2 up
Hearts are tanking it to pull down Hibs
Celtic take the lead at ST J… what a shocker
Again - four points at large with that La Liga final day. No one picked Atletico. Plenty picked Real.
True, Bob. I am mathematically alive, but it's a really slim chance.I need the EL, CL, and playoffs to go my way. Highly unlikely
3-1 Hoops
Unlikely but you never know.
Donald MacLeod: "For any Hibees optimists (there may be 1 or 2) if scores stay the same tonight Hibs can still finish 7th :-)"
Did you see that Meyler has escaped any punishment of his tackle on Jan… he will be able to play in the Cup Final
NO GOAL GIVEN FOR VILLA
THe ref's watch says no
Never over the line… well done WATCH
It looks like Hibs vs Killie on Saturday will determine who plays Queen of the South in the playoff semis.
Hibs need a goal for St. Mirren at Killie right now
St.Johnstone have tied it up vs Celtic . It's 3-3
Ruddy Norah.. ST. J scores two goals in a minute
3-3
Hibs Vs Killie will be very important on Saturday
City will have only been on top of the table for 11 days plus a few until Sunday!
If scores stay the same, that match will the decider…everyone else will be safe
Hearty, Hibs, and Rangers could be challenging for promotion to the SPL next season. It could be really interesting.
As UWS stated, West Ham United could spoil it for West Ham rising.
Killie down to ten men
Three nil for Citeh!
GOAL! Jovatic makes it 3-0 Citeh!
How ironic that would be!!!
GOAL !!! 3-0 YAYA LAID IT ON A PLATE FOR jOVETIC TO SCORE WITH A GREAT FINISH
The Etihad is celebrating now.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Three minutes of needless stoppage time to play.
Citeh just need a draw on Sunday?
Real still one up at Valladoid with fifteen minutes remaining
Killie have defeated St. Mirren 1-0.
That's right, because of their GD. Liverpool would need to have a thirteen goal swing.
Let's take a look at the destination of the title since 2006
2007 Manchester… United
2008 Manchester… United
2009 Manchester….United
2010 London…. Chelsea
2011 Manchester… United
2012 Manchester… City
2013 Manchester… United
2014 Manchester… City
7 out of 8
Sunderland have defeated the Baggies 2-0. The Canaries are relegated even though one can be picky and say they are not.
YAYA FOUR NIL
Great run from inside of his own half… great finish
GOAL! Yaya runs the full length of the pitch and bangs in number four. Sheer quality.
GOAL !!! 4-0 CITEH ! YAYA RAN THE LENGTH OF THE PITCH AND SCORED.
The a full ton for Citeh this season.
Pretty much the last kick of the match
Title is surely CIty's
And that's it - a nervy start but a comprehensive win in the end for Citeh.
it's over .Citeh win 4-0 and need one point on Sunday
This result means Chelsea CAN'T win the league
How sad Special One…NOT
Can West Ham break Citeh hearts on Sunday? I'd love to see it but I don't expect it.
Not at all unhappy about Jose winning nowt this season.
That's enough for me, chaps. I'm off home.
I think this emphatic win will spur them on Sunday… the league is over
All is over in Scotland
One game will decide who will go into the playoff
Hibs v Killie
Cheers Bob. Great chatting. Cheers UWS.
Sunderland are up to 15th!
The Championship playoffs start tomorrow.
Norwich are basically down
NBC take it to an already finished Sunderland to show the ending of the match… WELL DONE AGAIN NBC
Only Real's game to go
Still winning with five to go
Vallodoid just tied it up.
Sunderland's run in after losing to Everton at home
Man City 2-2
Chelsea 2-1
Cardiff 4-0
Man Utd 1-0
West Brom 2-0
13 out 15 and should have been 15 without a keeper howler
Valladolid has tied it up!!!
That could mean Barca can win the league!!!
Man City v West Ham will be on NBC
Liverpool v Newcastle on NBCSN
United on SYFY
They would have to beat Athletico on the final day of the season
United's season is something that should be on the SYFY Channel
At home!
It could have meant nothing if Real had won… injury time right now
Real have been held 1-1 at Valladoid and it appears their title hopes are all but gone.
Will you be around for Brighton vs Derby tomorrow.
