A Rather Interesting Morning
Well, well, well. Isn't this a quite interesting morning ahead of us, chaps? We start with Leeds, who have drawn all four games so far against Not a Big Club. That's followed in short space by an underwhelming, quite un-Manchester United ManYoo side against a Newcastle team led by a Wally with a Brolly. Join me for all the high-jinks, won't you?
364 Comments:
Good morning, Bob. I a up early to join you for all the action.
The McDonald's Brand Coffee just finished brewing.
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board.
Here's the team news out of Elland Road:
United team: Silvestri, Berardi, Bamba, Cooper, Taylor, Byram, Adeyemi, Phillips, Dallas, Antenucci, Wood. Subs: Turnbull, Wootton, Bellusci, Murphy, Mowatt, Erwin, Doukara.
Do we care about the Not a Big Club line-up? No - we do not.
Thanks Bob. I'm glad to join you. If they were a Big Club then we might care.
I'm surprised Silvestri kept his place in the lineup after a late error at Ashton Gate cost them two points.
Celtic have the lead at Dundee United
Me too - Ross Turnbull has had a good start to the season deputizing for Silvestri. Might be time for a change.
The team news out of Old Trafford:
Manchester United
Romero; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger; Mata, Januzaj, Memphis; Rooney. Subs: Johnstone, McNair, Valencia, Carrick, Herrera, Young, Hernandez.
Newcastle United
Krul; Mbemba, Coloccini, Taylor, Haidara; Anita, Colback; Obertan, Wijnaldum, Perez; Mitrovic. Subs: Williamson, Cisse, De Jong, Aarons, Thauvin, Tiote, Darlow.
Referee: Craig Pawson (South Yorkshire)
What do you make of that United line-up? First time that the Pigsticker is starting next to Schneiderlin. Carrick is rested.
I'm pleased. Carrick is starting to be past it. He had a poor match vs Brugge on Tuesday and was replaced by the Pig Stick at halftime. United looked a much better side after that.
Also, United looked like the United of old in parts of that match and Memphis had an excellent match.
The cameras are at ER with the fans singing MOT!
They're off from ER!
And my tea has finished brewing just as we start at Elland Road - MOT!
NUhiu, the Big Transylvanian striker, will be the danger man for Not a Big Club
Oh dear - Kalvin Phillips picks up a silly yellow card for an obvious tug back.
Calvin Phillips, from the LUFC Youth Academy, is booked less than 60 seconds in.
Not a Big Club have an early corner. Wasted with a corner that doesn't beat the first man.
Now the Not Big Club have a corner and a former Leeds player shoots over at the near post.
ONNBCSN, a picture of Andy Cole, Giggsy, and Ginja Ninja standing together.
Our Uniteds start the weekend. I like the sound of that.
I do, too - it's a United double-act.
IS Calvin Phillips making his league debut. He seems a tad nervous.
The Whites need to start winning tackles in midfield.
Matias wins another tackle in midfield and shoots a long range effort tamely to Silvestri
I've got the NBC Sports Extra link going for the United match now.
Nah - Philllips was in the side last season. He's just a jittery player.
I'm not sure what to make of the signing of Pedro. he's a talented player, but will he adapt to the Prem. I think it's to replace some of the flops that were signed in the January transfer window.
Not a good sign against Not a Big Club?
I just heard Fred in his bog. He's surprisingly relaxed considering his team's form.
A slip let in Phillips there for a couple of cracks at goal - both blocked out.
Stuart Dallas with a long range effort that wasn't too far over.
My United is now in the tunnel against Not a Big United.
Teams in the tunnel at OT as Leeds have a decent free kick chance now from a soft foul.
Antenuci wins a free kick off of Semedo
Nodded out for our first corner of the afternoon.
A decent free kick from Phillips is wasted as the offside flag is raised.
I wonder if you feel that Tom Lees is traitor for going to the dark side.
Uh oh - looks like my NBC link is behind the channel.
They're off from OT!
come on man united!
I have both matches on side by side.
I'm not at all happy with it - there's been a recent tradition of it, with both managers (e.g. Kevin Blackwell) and players making the move.
LVG and Wally exchange pleasantries as they know each other from their time in Holland.
I noticed that Leeds are the early match next Saturday, kicking off even earlier than today.
We're away at Old Trafford - I'm hoping that I'm only a few seconds behind. I've just checked - I'm about a minute behind.
Celtic go two up at Dundee United.
Crikey! I'm not sure how many of these early Saturdays I can entertain.
Yikes! I wonder why they're so far behind/
Memphis has a long range effort easily saved by his compatriot, Tim Krul
Roon has a goal disallowed off side from a pass by Jan. he looks on in the replay.
Mirco has got to keep himself onside once in a while.
A wild one in Dundee as the Tangerines pull one back vs Celtic as they trail 1-2 in the first half.
It's now halftime in Dundee.
Roon has a long range effort shot tamely to Krul.
Oh - Byram had worked a nice opening there but then wasted it with a poor square ball.
Berardi is in trouble now for a clash of heads. Yellow card.
Uwe looks none too pleased about that decision.
wally has decided to put ten men behind the ball on his return to OT.
High and wide by Tom Lees.
Oh - Antenucci, our current top scorer, launched himself at a long-range volley. Just wide.
Antenucci volleys a decent effort wide of the goal.

Nice dummy by Mirco by Wood wasn't on the same page.

Memphis won another corner. They retain possession.
Decent hit by Mata but it's smothered by Don't Be Krul.
Mata has a near post effort saved by Krul and Ober heads away the corner from Memphis.
BOOM BOOM, Elvis.
Don't Be Krul keeping out Mata there.
Cheers, mate.
Chris Wood has a shot blocked as Not A Big Club desperately clear.
Darmian is booked for persistent fouling.
We've had the lion's share of the possession and chances. I'm cautiously optimistic. We really do need a home win today ahead of a difficult schedule of matches.
That is pretty similar to us in our match
Haijdara was booked for a nasty foul on Blind after a spell of pressure by the Toon off a free kick from Wijnaldum. The Memphis shoots tamely at Krul.
BUGGGGERRRRR!
Marco Matias with a goal out of nothing.
Your team is the early match again next Saturday and really early at that
Where were the defenders as Matias strolled through there. He had the freedom of Elland Road.
Sorry mate . It was a cracking finish as Matias trapped a long ball, juggled it then volleyed in the upper 90. The whites were caught out by a routine long ball and Matias took advanatage.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
MOT!
Bugger!United had a great counter led by Jan and Memphis blew it as he was forced out wide by Krul and lost possession with a poor pass.
Now the Toon win a corner.
Pig Stick heads away the corner from Colback then Mitrovic heads well wide.
Cheers, mate - we need a goal back right away.
Not a Big Club win a corner on the counter.
It seems a Mata of time before United score, right?
Bob will be pleased to see Tom Lees booked as he prevents a Leeds counter off the corner with a tug of the shirt.
BOOM BOOM! I sure hope so. You're in great form this morning.
Oh - decent strike from Dallas but Wood was offside when he tried to direct it toward goal.
Just wide by Dallas.
It would be nice to see Dallas and Memphis score in England today
Into stoppage time at ER as Not a Big Club have a player down.
Two minutes and change of stoppage time to come in a disappointing half for LUFC.
Steve Taylor blocks two efforts
Play resumes at ER.
A chant of "You Don't Know what You're doing" has come up at the end of this half. Not sure if that's directed at the ref or at Uwe Rosler.
Antenucci tries a low percentage shot - high, wide and 'orrible.
High and wide by Antenucci from a difficult angle.
Hopefully not at Rosler. That is not a good sign
Half-time: Not a good contest so far and we haven't created nearly enough. Hoping for better in the second half.
Not a Big Club is one up at the half.
Memphis appeared to be fouled just outside the box. I would like to see a replay.
OH!!! A cross from Darmian is inches to high for Roon , who would have headed United in front.
Smalling is called for climbing on Mitrovic.
Blind clears a cross from Haidara for a Toon corner.
Thankfully United were wise to the short corner that came to nothing.
A great United possession is wasted as Luke Shaw is stupidly offside.
The Toon win a corner as Ayoze has a shot finger tipped out for a corner by Romero as Smalling gave away possession. The Toon keep possession the United clear
Roon is too easily tackled in midfield by Mitrovic.
Jan wins a tackle in midfield off of Colback, but Memphis is too easily tackled by Collocini as there is a minute of stoppage time/.
It's 0-0 at the half as United dominated early on, but faded away the last few minutes of the half.
I'm sure that UWS is having a lie in and is not best pleased with this performance from your beloved Man United.
Celtic now lead 1-3 at Dundee United in the second half.
The second half is underway from ER!
I'm sure he is as it's about 2:40 in the morning in Hawaii. He would not be best pleased.
Leeds win an early corner and Sol Bamba heads straight to Lewis Price.
We're back on at Elland Road - come on, you Whites!
I was thinking that we seemed a little short handed and United sure miss the inspiration from UWS. They will have to find a way to win.
The boss is up in the stands, holding court with a group of buddies.
A hefty challenge by Sougou gets him a yellow card.
Sougou is booked for a horrible foul on Young Phillips.
The conference is probably not a good one.
Sam Byram is fouled by Kieran Lee just outside the box.
A complete waste by Phillips as it was a poor angle for a shot and went well wide.
UWe is about to make a double substitution.
It's Zeke Mowatt for Sam Byram and Luke Murphy for Calvin Phillips.
It's a minute into the second half at OT.
We need some changes pronto, Uwe.
Wally is almost two minutes tardy coming out for the second half.
Uwe made two changes. Just one remaining as both our Uniteds can use some Teutonic motivation.
Poor effort from Mowatt after a promising attack.
According to the announcer the temperature in parts of the UK may peak in the mid to upper 80s. Unusually warm for football season.
I missed that, mate - thanks for checking.
Ayoze tackles Darmian for a United corner.
No probs, mate.
YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's big Chris Wood with the equalizer after some fine work on the flank from Stuart Dallas.
WAY HAY!! LEEDS TIE IT UP.
Brilliant nutmeg by Dallas out wide left and then he slid a slide-rule pass across the six yard box for Wood to tap home.
1-1!
Mowatt found Dallas down the right and his pass was bundled home by Chris Wood. It's now 1-1.

Nice save by Silvestri from a header on the break.
Chris Wood with a decent headed effort there from Taylor's cross.
Into the wall by Memphis then Smalling is offside. Carrick is on for the pig Stick.
What did you make of Pig Stick's debut?
Mata wins a corner off of Mebemba.
A waste as Memphis takes it short to Mata then Smalling is called for a foul on Collocini
The Pig Stick had a decent match in his first United start, but nothing spectacular.
Darmian wins a United corner.
The corner from Mata is eventually cleared.
Hutchinson is booked for Not a Big Club.
Chris Wood lining up a free kick now - I'd love to see this one sail in.
No - Mowatt takes and curls it into Price's hands. Shame.
Memphis has a long range effort deflected for a corner.
Smalling failed to make a decent contact off a better corner from Mata and the Toon greatfully clear.
Goalscorer Matias is making way for Jeremy Helan.
Matias , the scorer , is off , and replaced by Helan. It seems that the visitors are content to settle for a draw.
An attacking move by LVG as Chicha is about to come on. We could use his great finishing
Oh - Antenucci lined up a curler but it was blocked out.
It'll be nice to see the Wee Pea back in the fold. I thought he'd left, honestly.
Jan is called for a foul on Haidara and that's his last action as he's replaced by Chicha. LVG will not be pleased to see him walk off slowly with United needing a goal.
He was on loan at Real last season, but is back and it would be great to see him score some goals.
Helan into the book.
Ober is replaced on his return to OT aby compatriot , Thauvin , a new signing from Marseille.
Mbemba wins a corner off of Blind.
Romero catches the corner from Thauvin. United counter and Chgiucha is fouled by Thauvin./
Roon has a shot blocked by Taylor.
Inside ten minutes for the Leeds boys to fashion a winner.
OH!!!! A great United counter as Roon broke down the left and put in a tasty cross. Mata volleys well over from close range. He should have given United the lead.
Both our Uniteds need a winner
Lopez is on for Semedo as that's the final roll of the dice for the evil visitors.
Bamba is off for treatment. Wouldn't mind seeing him come off for a striker right about now.
Doukara is coming on but it's for Dallas while Bamba has rejoined the action.
The final roll of the dice for Uwe as Doukarra is on for Stuart Dallas, who gets a deserved standing ovation.
Luke Shaw shoots straight at krul off a nice one two.
Oh - Wood seemed in a perfect position but he was off. Missed the target anyway.
Valencia is on for Darmian. I'm not pleased about that. It's like for like.A defensive change by Wally as Tiote is on for Ayoze.

Late corner chance now. Cooper nods over.
Five minutes of stoppage time to come.
Five minutes of stoppage time to come.

Plenty of time for a late winner.
MOT!!!
Cheers, mate - we're making the push.
Oh - Antenucci had a chance but was a bit too greedy. Inside the last minutes of stoppage time.
aNTENUCCI HAS A SHOT BLOCKED OFF A GREAT SOLO RUN.
Free kick - last chance saloon.
Oh - that was indisciplined from Wood, drifiting offside.
It's over at ER and finishes 1-1 as Leeds have drawn every match they have played this season. This is the most common score in the matches they have played.
That's that - it's yet another score draw for us, the fourth of our campaign so far. Will we ever actually win a match?
Four minutes plus stoppage time remaining at OT as uNited push for a late winner
At least you haven't lost any .
Cisse is on for Mitrovic, who takes forever to come off.
it looks like being four minutes of stoppage time.
