Early Morning Arsing About
Arsenal fans came into the new season with fresh hope soon dashed by an opening day loss to the Hammers. Can they bounce back at Palace this morning? Jose Mourinho was arsed off at his medical staff on the opening day. Today, his Chelski side have their first big test against high-flying Citeh. It looks to be a fantastic day in the Premiership. Join me for all the action.

Morning, lads - I'm here with a cuppa to enjoy what should be a fabulous morning of the good stuff. UWS will be predicting a dull 0-0 draw between Citeh and Chelski, and he may be right. But football is a "funny old game," as a wise man once said. We'll see.
Here is the team news out of Selhurst Park this morning:
Crystal Palace, 4-2-3-1: Alex McCarthy, Ward, Dann, Delaney, Souare, Zaha, Cabaye, McArthur, Puncheon, Bolasie, Wickham. Subs: Mariappa, Bamford, Hennessey, Jedinak, Murray, Mutch, Lee.
Bolasie starts! He was on the bench last week against Norwich remember. And Connor Wickham gets the nod ahead of Glenn Murray. FFS!
Arsenal, 4-2-3-1: Cech, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Ramsey, Coquelin, Sanchez, Ozil, Cazorla, Giroud. Subs: Debuchy, Gibbs, Gabriel, Arteta, Ospina, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Cech retains his place, and Sánchez comes in for Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire)
Good morning, Bob. I just woke up and see that BEIN is showing Wolves vs Hull City. It's 1-1 midway through the second half.
Morning Robert
I am here for the matches
I hope they are entertaining!
This could be a real banana skin match for Arsenal, with Bolassie, Zaha and Puncheon all capable of breaking quickly.
Morning, UWS. Great to hear that you're hopeful this morning. We're about to get underway here.
And we are off at Selhurst Park
They kicked off from Selhurst Park a minute ago
A quick start for the Arsenal - they'd love to pinch an early goal to settle the nerves.
Gunner fans must be pleased to see Sanchez back
Are they surprised he to the Ox's place?
Early corner for Palace, and an early test for Cech, who must be full of butterflies this morning.
Kos slices out a clearance from a short Palace free kick for a corner
Another think that I dislike about the modern game... the skin tight shirts!!!
Good morning Dave.
Are your Leeds on telly for you to watch today? Of course, I don't have that channel!
Did you see the rumor that Muller wants to join United?
I'd take him above Rooney
Great interplay between Giroud and Sanchez.
Kate will not be pleased as Giroud wasted a good opportunity after a nice one two with Ramsey.
LUFC aren't on the telly today, probably for the best. I'm convinced that they're worse when I'm watching them.
BEIN is currently showing Wolves vs Hull City , but I don't think the Leeds is on the telly.
I'm with you on the shirts - it's almost as if they're flaunting their physiques in front of their podgy fans.
The Gunneres break off a Palalce corner and OH! Alexis has a shot cleared off the line
Great break by the Arse but Sanchez misses two chances... LVG... do you see what happens when you attack with PACE
Great break by the Arsenal but Sanchez couldn't find the right finish, with one shot saved off the line.
And they sell the shirts to podgy fans that have to buy a XXXXL size!
It was a great clearance off the line by Joe ward , but Alexis took too long to shoot and really should have scored.
Muller would be an excellent addition to your side. You need a consistent goalscorer up front - United have always had that.
I agree. They have that size in just about any shirt, but it's hard to find any in my size
Another fast pace break and Alexis has a shot block. United should do more of that
Another chance for Alexis but he drives his shot into a wall of defenders. Great match so far.
I agree, Bob. We really need a consistent goal scorer. That will also help because opposing defenses now have to determine whether to focus on Roon or Mueller. One of them will be freed up.
Wolves vs Hull City is on BEIN and has important PPP implications this early in the season. Both are favorites for promotion. I am going for Wolves as I picked them to be champions ahead of Middlesbrough. Some people picked the Tigers.
Lee Mason a lucky ref for both teams.
I remember when Van Horsey Face came to United and scored in the Charity Shield match, one of the commentators said, "He's going to score every week!" And he just about did.
Rooney doesn't really want to play up front, so you need someone to really lead the line.
Cech falls on a cross from Zaha - that will give him some confidence.
Rooney has been so bad this season
I think his average rating has been 4.5
Palace break off a Gunners free kick and Bolassie does well to find Zaha with a cross field pass. The former United player didn't check his options and crossed straight to Cech
GOAL
GREAT GOAL BY GIROUD
GOAL! What a volley from Giroud!!!
GOAL !!! GIROUD GIVES THE GUNNERS THE LEAD.
Nice adjustment and in the corner
1 nil to the Gunners
The ball in from Ozil was real rubbish and Giroud had to completely improvise because the ball was so far behind him. And the Gooners are singing, "Hey Jude" to Giroud.
0-1!
A nice volley by Giroud off a cross from Ozil off a great build up
17 Prem games on THREE have been won by home teams!!!
United, Leicester and Swansea?
PHEW! The Tigers nearly took a late lead as Chuba Akpom, on loan from the Gunners had a long range effort superbly saved by the Wolves keeper then the Gunners loanee shot inches over for the Tigers
That's an od start. Surely Platini will punish the Prem for a rules violation!
Even in the Championship, not too many home teams won yesterday
It's been a crazy start. Only Leicester and United with perfect records. Chelski could easily ruin Citeh's start.
Shame about Liverpool... they should Bournemouth
Ramsey and Cazorla are pulling the strings, the game could easily get away from the home side.
It finishes 1-1 in the very early season promotion six pointer as Yours Truly is relieved as the Tigers dominated the closing stages and Chuba Akpom, on loan from the Gunners nearly scored three times late on. He hit the post and forced a good save from the keeper.
M<CArthy does well to save from Alexis then Joe Ward clears
sooners making all the noise right now. Apparently they're "by far the greatest team the world has ever seen."
Both of McCarthy's former clubs are in action in about an hour.
There should also be dancing in the streets of Alex.
Talking about Alex, his Red Devils are drawing 1-1 at Union Berlin midway through the second half.
Alexis heads over with a free header.
Rangers lead 1-4 at Alloa in the second half.
GOAL !!! 1-1 AS JOE WARD SCORES WITH A GREAT FINISH IN THE CORNER
GOAL! Another great strike - from Ward.
1-1!
Bolassie Chested down a cross from Puncheon to MacArthur , who found Ward just outside the box. The fullback went for placement instead of power and placed it perfectly in the corner.
Cursing in the streets of Alex?
Red Devil will not be pleased as his team now trail Union Berlin 2-1.
Back to the match from the loo... of course I miss a goal!!
Caz shoots well over from the D off a poor clearance from Delaney.
This match has gone off the boil in the last few minutes. I'm off to fix brekkies.
Sorry about that. It was a well placed shot. Placement instead of power.
Great save by MccArthy from a back heeled shot from Ramsey off a pass from Ozil, then a shot from Alexis is blocked.
BOTH teams are attacking so far
I like it... are you watching LVG
A clumsy foul by Zaha pn the Nacho Man just outside the box. There was no need to make that challenge, albeit there was a theatrical fall.
I agree. I wish United played more like this.
Alexis wins a corner off of Souare
The corner is headed out by the first man.
Bet it won't be like this in the 'big' match to follow
Hi Blue Devil,
I am planning to come over for the first half of the clash of the titans. See you then!
Coq Au Vin is booked for a foul on Bolassie.
Which side do you want United to play like, UWS - Arsenal or Palace?
I agree, UWS. That will be a very defensive match
Good morning Red Devil. I hope 1 FCK tie it up or even score a couple to win.
Kate has just woken up and delivered her judgment on Arsenal's away kit - "yuck." I concur.
Looking forward to it, Red Devil!
Rangers now lead 1-5 at Alloa.
Kate doesn't like the grey Poupon look?
Did you tell her that Giroud scored?
Coquelin is in trouble here - fortunate to stay on.
I did - she missed a quality goal.
Good call Kate... but just woke up??
Half time
It's 1-1 at the half as MacArthur was booked for foul, but Coq Au Vin committed a similar foul and was lucky not to be getting an early bath for a second yellow. Pardew was not pleased.
Red Devil will be pleased that his team has scored to make it Desmond at Union Berlin.
The end of a cracking first half there. Nicely poised.
I liked the Palace goal.... great crisp finish
It has finished Desmond between 1 FCK and Union Berlin while Rangers won 1-5 at Alloa. It finished 0-0 between Wigan and Donny.
We're back at Selhurst Park just in time for kick off.
It's two minutes into the second half
Oh - the usual rubbishy finish from Connor "Bloody" Wickham. Sparky would have scored that one but of course Wickham hist the post.
OH!!!! Off the post by Connor Whickham
I agree, Bob. Humorous , but true.
Did Palace make some halftime substitutions? I don't remember Mutch playing in the first halkf
Did Connor Whickham even touch the ball in the first half?
Souare with a clumsy foul on Ozil nbear the corner flag
Mutch must have come on but NBC came back from commercials late so we may have missed it.
A German combo as Merte heads the fre e kick from Ozil well wide. The Gunners keep possession and wion a corner
The Guardian says that Bolassie went off - I'm surprised.
Ozil takes and a soft volley from Lexis is easily saved by McCarthy
Me too. He had an excellent first half. He must have said something at the half.
Great block by Scott Dann from Ramsey
GOAL! Arsenal are back in the lead. Alexis made it happen but in the end it went in off Delaney. I think.
1-2!
GOAL !!!! THE GUNNERS LEAD 1-2 AND IT LOOKS AN OG BY DAMIAN DELANEY AS ALEXIS HEADED A CROSS FROM BELLERIN AND DELANEY DIVERTED IT INTO HIS OWN GOAL.
Puncheon with a great first touch does well to get past Bellerin, but his soft effort is easily saved by Cech
Coq Au Vin fouls MacArthur and really is riding his luck. Arsene might consider subbing him.
Coquelin in trouble again - he's got to be on a last warning. Riding a fine line now. I'd have him off if I were Arsene.
A chorus of boos as the Ox is on for Coq Au Vin. A clever move by Arsene.
Smart man - Coq au Vin is coming off now and The Ox is on. Do Arsenal really only have one defensive middle?
Who will be the ball winning middie for the Gunners?
Great minds think alike!
Fred is sitting on his lofty perch. He wants to make a statement.
Zaha broke for Palace , but not like a Z Car.
Oh - Ramsey had a half there but wellied it over.
Ramsey shoots over after great combo play with Ozil
That Palace substitution was Mutch ado about nothing.
It's just about kick-off time at Reading. Here's the team news:
Reading: Bond, Gunter, Obita, McShane, Ferdinand, Norwood, Quinn, Williams, Robson-Kanu, Blackman, Sa. Subs. Al-Habsi, A.Taylor, Hector, Tshibola, Novakovich, Cox, Stacey.
Leeds: Silvestri, Berardi, Cooper, Bamba, Taylor, Adeyemi, Phillips, Mowatt, Byram, Dallas, Wood. Subs. Turnbull, Wootton, Bellusci, Murphy, Erwin, Doukara, Antenucci.
Referee: C Kavanagh
Great block by Delaney from the Ox.
Oh - Arsenal break so quickly that NBC are still on the replay when The Ox pulls the trigger. Blocked out. Looks like Arteta is coming on. Why didn't he replace Coq au Vin?
Looks like Alexis will be rested a bit.
MOT!!!! Have great rid eon the Reading RR, pass Go , and collect $200 and three points!
Montreal gives up a cheap foul there in a dangerous area.
Is he still tired from his Copa America exertions?
I've hoping so - Reading lost on the first day.
Apparently so - I'm surprised - wasn't that way back in early July?
Merte clears the free kick from Cabaye then another poor clearance lands to Puncheon, who picks out Whickham and he shoots it wide.
A double substitution by Pardew as Lee Chun Yung is on for Zaha.. The South Korean was signed from QPR
Arteta came on for Alex.
Correct Bob. The Copa Final was on the 4th of July. If lexis was rested a couple of weeks then he may be behind on the pre-season training. He should be up scratch before we know it.
Palace pressing their luck - a bit over ten minutes left.
This will be a true test for Arsenal's new keeper and his relationship with his defenders.
Sol Bamba has already been booked for Leeds.
Pardew is tossing on Patrick Bamford who was in the Boro side last year but is a Chelski loanee.
Alan Pardew with the final roll of the dice going for it as Patrick Bamford, the striker on loan from Chelsea is on for MacArthur, a defensive middie.
According to the stats, Silvbestri has already had to make a save.
The final roll of the dice by Arsene as Gibbs is on for Ozil.
Leeds now register their first shot on target. A fairly even start.
Jon Bond saved from Stuart Dallas.
Bob will have fond memories of this Reading keeper from a few years back.It has to do with a match where Watford needed a draw vs Leeds to get automatic promotion and Bond, on his debut made a couple of howlers to resign the Hornets to the playoffs.
Palalce are awarded a corner even though the ball last came off of Bamford. The corner was headed on and last came off of Mutch , who didn't know much about it and it went over for a goal kick.
Whickham headed own a cross to Lee Chong Yung, who won a corner off of Arteta and Joe Ward headed the corner from Puncheon straight to Cech.
Arsenal have held out well, and Gooner will be delighted by it.
A kick save by McCarthy from Alexis.
Three minutes stoppage time as the Gunners have a corner.
A clumsy foul by Connor on Caz.
Only seconds left now. This will be a really decent away win for the Arse.
The Ox pulls another save out of McCarthy - and that's it. Arsenal have won their first victory.
The Ox shoots straight at McCarthy on the break, but it doesn't matter as the Gunners win 1-2 at Selhurst Park. Congratulations to Gooner, Simon, and dad.
I'm off to take Sparky walkies ahead of the supposed "Big Match" and before it gets too hot to take him.
Still 0-0 at Reading RR.
I'm going to hop off the thread for the late match, mate, due to a Fredonia friend Alex (Red Devil) coming over for it. Enjoy!
Sorry I have been pulled away... I am too damn busy around the house!
I won't be around for awhile... I won't be around until the international break!!!
Have a great start to the school year boys
Talk to you in September
TTFN
I'm back and official cooked to see that it's still 0-0 at the Madjeski just before halftime. According to the stats, it looks a fairly even match with chances.
Cheers Bob and Dave. Have a great day and a great vacation respectively. Cheers!
It's 0-0 at the half between Reading and Leeds.
Citeh nearly score fifteen seconds in as SIlva put Aguero through and Begovic did well to block his close range effort, then Navas shot wide.
Two great saves by Begovic from Aguero. First , Fernandinho found Kolorov down the left. His pass founs Aguero , who forced a great save by Begovic. Then Navas found Aguero , who forced an identical save by Begovic.
AGuero volleys a cross from Kolorov wide . It was just too far in front of him to make good contact
Costa is fortunate not to be booked for a cheap shot on Yaya.
GOAL !!! AGUERO GIVES CITEH THE LEAD OFF A LONG SPELL OF POSSESSION. SILVA PASSED TO AGUERO , WHO PLAYED A NICE ONE TWO WITH YAYA THEN SCORED WITH A WELL PLACED FINISH PAST BEGOVIC.
Kompany is booked for a foul on Costa.
The goal had been coming as Citeh has been the better team and Aguero will be glad to score after Begovic did well to save his previous three shots on target
Citeh could have gone two up as Kolorov took a free kick and Mangala out jumped Begovic, heading just wide. The a huge roar from the crowd as the medical team of Hughes& Hughes come s on to treat Cahill
Two minutes of stoppage time.
Fewrnandinho booked for an elbow in the head to CXosta, wo makes the most of it to get Fernie booked. Now a roar of approval for the Citeh medical , who sportingly treat Costa because Hughes & Hughes are treating Cahill for a bloody nose. Chelsea are down two players.
The booking seemed harsh because Fernie used his elbows for leverage and it was completely unintentional. Costa with head bandage , looking like a mummy.
Citeh lead 1-0 at the half.
It finishes 0-0 at the Madjeski between reading and Leeds. Bob should consider this a creditable result. It doesn't sound like the most entertaining match as Aguero has already as many shots on target as both teams combined have in this entire match
According to Becky, Costa had to be restrained in the tunnel because he wanted to go after Fernie. As she aptly stated, it's imperative that he keep his head if Chelsea are to have a chance in this match
As things stand, Citeh are top , ahead of the Foxes and United on goal difference.
Zouma is on for JT, who is starting to show his age. JT looks none too pleased on the bench
The second half is underway
Ivanovic is booked for a foul on Sterling inches outside the box.
The free kick from Kolorov was cleared then Kolorov played it back in and Zouma acrobatically cleared/ blocked
According to Arlo, this is the first time that Jose has substituted JT in a Prem match. Ivanovic is now the Chelsea captain and starts out with a booking
Ramires has a goal disallowed for offside off a scooped pass from Hazard. That looked level to me and it should be tied it up. Citeh can consider themselves lucky.
Hey mate - I'm back at the hour mark, as my friend Alex just left.
How will Chelski claw their way back into this one. Jose is turning to Juan Cuadrado for the answers.
And Nasri on for Navas.
Oh - great save by Hart from Hazard. To be fair, the Belgian shot straight at Hart.
The chances are coming thick and fast at both ends now, and this is an enthralling match now.
Chelsea nearly tie it up on a counter as Costa went past Kompany and found HAzard , whose close range effort was blocked then Costa was called for a foul as the rebound was cleared.
Welcome back, mate. Were you pleased with the result from the Madjeski?
Arlo astutely mentioned that Chelsea have yet to win a match either pre-season or regular. Quite uncharacteristic.
Begovic cuts out a pass from Kolorov then Ivanovic concedes a corner.
Sterling gets a standing ovation as he's replaced by Di Michelis.
GOAL !!!KOMPANY HEADS IN THE CORNER
GOAL! That's torn it - Kompany nods home Citeh's second.
Seconds before the goal, there boos for Falcao as he came on for Willian , due to his loan at OT last season.
Hazard us booked for a foul on Yaya then Begovic makes a great save from Yaya from a pass by Aguero
Correct. This one is over as Citeh are top and the nightmare continues as Chelsea are off to a poor start and the off field problems continue to dominate
A standing ovation for Aguero as he's replaced by Boni
Very poor start. United (and Citeh) are now five points clear of Chelski. Wow!
GOAL! WOWWWWWW!!!
What a strike!
GOAL !!! FERNIE PUTS CITEH THREE UP.
Sloppiness in the backline capitalized on by a really true hit by Fernandinho.
This is a statement win for Citeh against the champions.
