US v. Jamaica Gold Cup Semi-Final Live!
The US Women's team did the business against England in their semi-final yesterday. Tonight, it's the Men's turn, in a Gold Cup semi-final with Jamaica. Win and both men's and women's teams will be in finals at the weekend - not sure that has ever happened before. So, let's win one on 4th of July eve.
Join me on the LOB for the patriotic festivities tonight.

The big team news out of the camp tonight is that Jozy Altidore starts ahead of Gyasi Zardes. I can't say that Zardes has impressed much in this tournament, despite scoring a couple. He's mainly trundled about doing not so much. But surely Jozy is one for the past at this point.
Good evening, Bob. Here to join you for the U.S. vs Jamaica.
The U.S. women play Holland in the final Sunday morning with England playing Sweden in the third placed match Saturday morning.
Teams coming out of the tunnel now. Looks like a lovely summer evening.
Evening, David - how are you, mate?
doing well, thank you for asking . How about you?
Altidore, Zardes, what's the difference. The squad Berhalter picked never impressed me. I'm a bit ambivalent. I'd like us to beat Jamaica if only for revenge when they came to DC and beat a very poor US. That incidently is the match that convinced Coach B to leave Sargent out of this Gold Cup squad. But if we do beat the Jamaicans what awaits us is a bloody and embarrassing hiding from Mexico. Hello chaps
The Jamaica lineup consists of five MLS players, four USL players, Michael Hector , who plays in the Championship, and Leon Baiely of Bayer Leverkusen.
Some interesting changes from Berhalter tonight - he clearly was not impressed by that quarterfinal outing against Curacao.
Good evening , Steve. Very well stated.
Evening, Gooner! Great to have you on board this evening.
They're off from Music City.
And we're underway in Nashville tonight. Looks like a great occasion in Music City.
Very poor against Curacao.
Oh - nearly an early goal there for the US - how did that not go in?!
Carnage in the box comes to nowt for the US
OH! Nice run by Pulisic , but comes off Jozy's knee and then Jamaica win a free kick on the counter.
Now it's a free kick chance for the Reggae Boyz.
Oh - big chance there for Maddocks - inches away. Very open first few minutes.
Free kick just missed by Mattocks or else Jamaica would have had an early lead.
Looks like Arriola and Dozy got in each others way.
That was close for Jamaica just now too.
Near misses from Mattocks... takes me back to his DC United days
Oh - now it's Arriola with a big chance! Great save!
We could easily be at 2-1 within five minutes - what a start!
OH!!! Nice close range save by Andre Blake from Arriola , where Jozy completely missed the ball off a nice run and pass from Jordan Morris.
Watched Mexico last night vs Haiti and they were not much better than the U.S. were vs Curacao.
Pulisic causes more havoc down the left. He's roasted their right back twice already. That looks to be a really fruitful avenue for us tonight.
Arriola has the early beating of his defender. Chances but little end product.
Oh - another great chance for the US - Cannon into the side netting!
OH!!! Into the side netting by Reggie Cannon off a pass from Jordan Morris , who received a pass from Jozy.
The Jamaican defenders look as if they're still on the bus...and it's Willie Nelson's bus. Shocking stuff from them so far.
I notice that Tim Ream is pushed up so far he's almost in a #10 role. Not a lot of respect shown so far for Jamaica.
Yes! Mckennie finally breaks the deadlock!
GOAL !!!WESTON MCKINNIE GIVES THE U.S. THE LEAD.
Nice bulid up and quick passing for McKennie to arrive on the layoff from Dozy for 1-nil US. It had been coming
Nice long ball down the right from Bradley to Reggie Cannon , who played a nice pass into the box that was missed by Jozy , but McKinnie was alert and finised well from close range
McKennie has been my favorite player in this tournament. I knew all about Pulisic's assets but Weston was totally new to me. He's been brilliant.
Pulisic is fouled just outside the Jamaica box.
Nice free kick chance now for the US.
Oh - off the post from Pulisic! Wow!
OH!!! The Free kick from Pulisic crashes off the Sunday roast.
What a ball by Mckennie!
Oh man was that close for Pulisic.
Next time Shalke is on the TV, watch McKennie. I've liked what I see.
Agreed about McKininie . Saw him play in some friendlies when given his debut by Coach S and played wll then . Like Pulisic , he played in the Bundesliga last season.
Arriola is upended again, setting up another free kick chance.
So, is Long's mullet hairstyle supposed to be ironic or is that coming back?
Arriola fouled by Elvis Powell , who looked more like Elvis Pressley in Music City
Oh - the keeper completely lost that one and it was nearly turned back in by Long.
Oh put more pressure on Blake their keeper for sure. That was bollocks him dropping that..
Andre Blake drops the free kick then makes a close range block from Aaron Long. The Jordan Morris goes on a run and is stopped by a last ditch tackle from Williams
LOL! I have seen a few mullets around town recently. But I am in Western New York. Not sure these guys ever gave up the style.
Not sure why the ref is talking to both captains. It's a weather delay due to thunderstorms in the area. That favors Jamaica.
"Severe weather delay?"
Jamaica's defense played more like they were on Bob Marley's bus than Willie's . Just my opinion.
Dr. Joe is now a meteorologist? C'mon, this coverage reminds me of the SNL sketch with Keenan Thompson as the sportscaster who has no more small-talk during a stop in play. Disappointing because it gives the Jamaicans a chance to re-organize or organize in the first place. At least we've got a goal.
Babylon by bus.
Definitely - really disappointing from Fox in this tournament. It's been the B-team from start to finish.
Take some calls. Give us an 800 number to call in to talk to Landycakes, Kobi, and Mo.
Landy's Kids?
At least the SNL sketch is humorous. The studio talk is really tedious.
Did Kate understand the doppler radar images?
Well, Mo Edu hasn't had to vamp this much since his best man's speech at his kid brother's wedding.
Kate is an expert on the Doppler radar.
You reckon that Pulisic is a starter at Chelsea? They've lost Hazard, but he's not the same kind of player, is he? Does he take Jorginho's spot if not?
They should really take some call. "Weather delay, you've reached Mo. Talk to me. Please God, talk to me."
I've wondered the same thing. I reckon that whoever comes in at Chelski (Frankie Lamps?) will probably lean more heavily on Pedro and Willian and use Pulisic off the bench at first. I don't think he walks into the first team.
I don't give a monkey's for Chelsea's or Fwank's sake of course. But stalling the most in form American player most important American player, yeah, I am very interested. I'm disappointed that he left Germany to be honest. Chelsea is better than some Spanish snake's nest, but I'm concerned for his development.
I hear you. Imagine my disappointment in hearing about Jack Clarke's transfer to Spurs this week. He'll be having a nap on the Spurs bench this next season with perhaps a wake up call for a Carabao Cup match now and again. Grrr!
Stu Holden must be trying to balance on a hover-board just out of shot. He's lurching around and it's weird.
How many times is Kate Abdo going to cue up this goal?
I thought that the Spuds offer was to load Clark back for the first half of the season. Did that not come off? He's completely wasted at Spurs otherwise.
I hadn't heard that; that would be a tonic for us. We also brought Helder Costa in on loan from Wolves today.
They've given up the ghost and are loading up the second half of the US v. England Women's match. Wow!
Definitely a waste at Spurs. Unfortunately, Pulsic will probably start and the bench and agreed that it will affect his development.
Well, gents, Kate's out of the shower and I'm going to pop up some corn so that we can watch something together. Cheerio for now - might check in later.
Sounds like it. Wonder if the match will be postponed until tomorrow.
Cheers, Bob. Great chatting with you , albeit briefly.
Cobi makes a good point. I hope they're discussing having Morris tuck in because Cannon is trying to bomb forward and it's working. Oh hello, here are the US women. Must be cats and dogs in Memphis.
Blimey - I'm back at a little beyond midnight and they're just kicking off the second half!
Still 1-0.
I'm back as well. Happy Fourth of July. It will be here in a little while.
Happy 4th, David! You're just back in time to see Christian Pulisic rattle in a rebound from Jordan Morris' shot.
2-0!
YESSS!!!! PULISIC PUTS THE U.S. TWO UP. NICE LONG BALL FROM MCKINNIE TO JORDAN MORRIS . ANDRE BLAKE FAILED TO HOLD ON TO HIS SHOT AND PULISIC EASILY PUT AWAY THE REBOUND.
Ouch! Long took one in the mush from Mattocks as he ran by him.
Mattocks was through on goal , but called for slapping Aaron Long then shot wide with Zack Steffen to beat. A foul was called.
Zardes on for Jozy, who is probably being replaced because he's been booked.
Jozy also looked a bit gassed - not the best conditions for him tonight.
Surely, the U.S. are in the final and it will be the first U.S. vs Mexico final since 2011.
Oh - Zardes had a chance to make an immediate impact. McKennie played him in beautifully but he put it wide!
OH!!!! Zardes misses a sitter a minute after coming on and that surely would have done and dusted it. Nice through ball from McKinnie.
it appears that both the U.S. men's and women's teams will be playing in a final on the same day. Is that a first? Hopefully, both win gold.
Jamaica trying to take advantage of the US taking the foot off the gas a bit.
Theodore Whitmore makes a change as Nicholson is on for Junior Flemmings. Then Mattocks cuts in and has a shot not too far wide form the edge of the box.
I can't remember that ever having happened. It will be a fine Sunday, for sure. The WWC Final will be on ABC at 10 am EST and the Gold Cup Final will be on at 8:30pm EST.
Your worst nightmare would be a Jamaica comeback , ET, and penalties. You would be up to the wee hours.
Thanks for the updates. One just after brekkies and one just after what is the usual time for walkies in the Summer.
Bugger! Jamaica get one back, the first goal that the US have conceded in this tournament.
BUGGER! NICHOLSON HEADS IN FOR JAMAICA MINUTES AFTER COMING OFF THE BENCH. ZARDES WAS TOO EASILY TACKLED, LEON BAILEY WENT ON A SOLO RUN , GOING PAST SEVERAL U.S. PLAYERS, THEN PUTS IN A CROSS FOR NICHOLSON TO HEAD IN.
I'm not sure I've got enough gas in the tank for extra time, mate.
Roldan on for Jordan Morris.
That would be rather late.
OH! Nice U.S. attack . A promising position for Pulisic and a really poor touch allowed Hector to kick it off him for a Jamaica goal kick
Nice block by Arriola from Leon Bailey after Zack Steffen flapped at a cross.
The US just need to shut this one down now. No more loose balls in midfield.
Darren Mattocks replaced by Brian Brown.
Oh - Arriola was on to a long ball there but got blocked out.
Ream coughs up the ball in a dangerous area. I'd yank him for that.
Kemar Lawrence fouls Roldan in a promising position for the U.S.
Sounds like a plan, mate.
This match seems to be ending in a similar fashion to the one vs Curacao on Sunday.
Why are the US risking so many men forward when they're 2-1 up. It's madness!
Very much so, mate. Daniel Lovitz, the Montreal Impact striker, being prepared to come on.
Oh dear - Steffen flapped at that cross.
The final roll of the dice for Theodore Whitmore as Peter Lee Vassell is replaced by Andre Lewis.
Just knock it about a bit for the last six minutes.
Jemar Watson is called for a cynical push on Zardes. He's already been booked. Why is he still on the pitch?
Arriola called for holding Elvis Powell. Elvis has yet to leave the building.
Phew! Chance for Bailey there. Don't like it.
Leon Bailey shoots straight to Zack Steffen from the edge of the box.
Yes! Pulisic makes it safe with his second of the night - another rebound, this time from Arriola's shot!
YESSSSSSSS 3-1 U.S. PULISIC PUTS AWAY A REBOUND FOR HIS SECOND OF THE MATCH
We were just starting to look ragged when that one went in. Very welcome.
Both goals from Pulisic were rebounds due to fumbles from Andre Blake. Pulisic received a pass down the right from Reggie Cannon. He did well to cut in and get past Hector. His cut back pass was behind Arriola, but his shot from 25 yards was fumbled by Blake and the rebound put away by Pulisic.
Agreed. This is basically done and dusted as we enter a trio of stoppage time minutes.
That's it - the US are into the Final on Sunday evening.
Thanks for hanging in there with me, mate. I'm off to Bedfordshire for some well deserved kip.
Weston McKinnie over from the corner of the box.
It's over and the U.S win 3-1, facing mexico in the final on Sunday
Cheerio, mate!
Cheers, Bob. Glad to join you. Good night and great chatting with you. Happy Fourth of July and look forward to chatting this weekend.
