Get up for the Prem!
Wake up, boys - it's time to watch some football! We start today with Everton v. Newcastle. Everton have gone a bit off the boil since their thrilling early season form but nothing like Newcastle's rotten form. After that, the 10am fixtures includes top of the table Citeh against bottom of the table Sheffield United. Those are all amusements ahead fo the main attraction - Arsenal v. United - at tea-time. IF you're still not satisfied, there is the usual Peeacock late offering of Soton and Villa. Join me, won't you?

Morning, boys - welcome to the clash between the 1926-27 champions Newcastle United and the team that took their title away from them the following year. Yes, it's Everton v. Newcastle.
The teams now lining up in the tunnel:
Everton: Pickford, Coleman, Mina, Keane, Digne, Sigurdsson, Doucoure, Iwobi, Richarlison, Rodriguez, Calvert-Lewin.
Subs: Kenny, Holgate, Andre Gomes, Godfrey, Gordon, Davies, Virginia, Olsen.
Newcastle United: Darlow, Hayden, Lascelles, Schar, Lewis, Manquillo, Shelvey, Hendrick, Almiron, Fraser, Wilson.
Subs: Dubravka, Clark, Matthew Longstaff, Carroll, Joelinton, Saint-Maximin, Gayle, Krafth, Anderson.
Referee: Stuart Attwell (Warwickshire).
We're away from Goodison is this interesting match-up. I'll take an Everton win in this one, obviously.
Hi Bob
Things here are crazy! Kathy had a COVID yesterday. She is staying upstairs but she still feels fine. She should get result on Monday. Shadow has a lump on his leg that he is getting removed on Tuesday but yesterday he licked it so much that it started to open up! I took hi to the vet and stood outside for an hour before he went in(I didn't want to sit in the car because he would get at wound). He is now wearing a bandage and a cone....he hates hit
LONG NIGHT
Tasty early challenge from Lascelles and the big man is into the referee's book early on. He'll have to watch himself now.
Morning, Dave - sorry to hear about all of the drama. Hope that Kathy and Shadow feel okay on after a good lie in.
I'm really surprised to see Saint Maximin on the bench again. He really made a difference against us on Tuesday.
Thanks Bob
I don't think Kathy has it...fingers crossed but it is still a worry
An idiot of workmate!!
Everton start this match in 7th on 33 points and Newcastle in 16th on 19 points. A contrasting season for these sides.
Brucie says they can't overdo Max
Manager and players are such wimps these days
A bit more adventurous from the Magpies today. They really sat back against us on Tuesday.
We've had those, too. I had a colleague back in the fall who went on trip to California, picked up COVID, supposedly "quarantined" at home (but I saw pictures of her all over the place on FB) and then came back to work. I stayed well away from her. Hoping Kathy's okay - and Shadow, too. Tuesday can't come quickly enough for him, eh?
Oh - Mina was in there from the free kick but he wasn't prepared for it. Put it over the bar.
DCL will be wanting to get back into scoring form. He was red hot back in the fall and has 11 goals on the season. But he hasn't scored in the last six.
I know that St. Max had COVID but that was back in November! Ilan Meslier recently had COVID and was back in the team Tuesday after being out for one match. And good thing, too - I don't trust Kiko Casilla at all and I've never seen our third keep Caprile play.
Shelvy picks up a yellow for a nick on James.
Oh - Richarlison with a long range effort that Darlow parries away.
The thing is on Tuesday is an operation so he'll have to wear the collar after that too
Good morning, Bob and Dave. Been up for a few minutes watching the match
Oh - Shelvey goes close there - it was deflected beyond Pickers and his post.
Morning, David - how's your weekend going so far?
Sorry about Shadow .Having owned pets I understand that it is difficult. Also, wishing Kathy the best. Sorry about the problems that the moron at the CC caused
Morning David
I didn't sleep soundly last night so not 100% awake. I may be gone Tuesday as well because we may need to go to the bank due to my father-in-law's savings account being hacked yesterday.
Oh - great header from Cally Wilson from the corner and Pickers had to tip over!
Header from Cally Wilson well tipped over
Sorry to hear about that, David. Hope you can get that sorted out at the bank. What a nuisance!
The new assistant, Graeme Jones, seems to have made a difference early doors. The Toon look more solid than in recent weeks
Thanks, Bob. Just learned that these situations are complicated and messy
Siggy picks up a card and Newcastle have a free kick now.
Just read that the Evil Lions are about to sign 21 year old Hibs fullback, Ryan Porteous. That would be quite a signing for them. Based on what I have read about him he would have been a decent signing for Leeds
Shelvey blooters it well over the bar. A waste. He hit a few of those against us on Tuesday, thankfully.
I know Bob is going for a Toffees win, but a Toon win would probably be best for the two Daves
Thanks David
You're welcome , Dave. Hope all goes well
No doubt it would. My formula is that if bottom half teams are playing, I want a draw. If top half sides are playing - e.g., Arsenal v. United - a draw again, please. If it's top v. bottom, I want the top half side to wi - e.g., this one.
Just read the very first comment. Bob nice mention of the roaring 20s . You're quite a historian
LOL, Bob. That sounds similar to the formula used by Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein. Is there a resemblance?
James has spent more time on the floor than anything. The ref has just had a word about his backchat.
Must be, David. RIP Cloris Leachman, who was Frau Blucher in that film, who died at age 94 the other day.
Wonder if James is starting to become fluent in English. It will be easier to complain at refs
I'm sure that his teammates have taught him, "Come on, ref!"
I just remembered that she was in an episode of Two and a Half Men. She played Jon Cryer's girlfriend of a bizarre sort for one episode. Her character passed away from a heart attack at the end of the episode due to excessive activity.
I'm guessing he's been taught other phrases too, LOL
I don't know if I would call this "bright and breezy." It's been okay.
That's half-time, then - the teams are deadlocked at 0-0. Will Brucey be happy with that?
It's 0-0 at the half as the Toon seem to be more committed with the appointment of the new assistant
The second half is underway from Goodison Park
We're underway again at Goodison Park.
No changes yet, but St. Max has started to warm up.
DCL takes a tumble in the box. Nothing doing from the ref.
Bob, what did you think of my comment at 8:16? Did you see that episode?
Oh - that's a huge miss for Wilson. He must score there.
OH! Cally Wilson should have given the Toon the lead on the counter. Nice pass from Manquillo and shot wide with just Picks to beat
I don't understand the Newcastle Cally Wilson. He used to score bucketsful for Bournemouth, which is why they bought him. He can't score for toffee now.
Kieran Clark has come on for Lascelles.
Like for like as Cieran Clark is on for the inju7red Lascelles
Darlow dives full length to turn around a cross/shot
Cally Wilson was ion a scoring slump for the Cherries last season too. His scoring slump coincided with the Cherries going from midtable to the drop zone , and as we know they never recovered from that. Similar situation this season
Canaries hosting the Teesiders and still 0-0 in that match as well
Black Cats leading the Gils 2-1 near the end of the first half. Black Cats now 5th ahead of Pompey
Carlisle one up vs Exeter in L2. Carlisle now second behind Cambridge on goal difference
A plate of French toast and banana has arrived at my side.
Andre Gomes Addams on for Iwobi as Ancelotti sees the need to freshen things up
WOW! Pain Francais au petit dejeuner. Tres bien, mon ami
La banane est bonne aussi
Mais oui, Davide!
Tu aimes le petit dejuner Francais , Americain?
Tu prends le cafe avec votre petit dejeuner
GOAL !! CALLY WILSON GIVES THE TOON THE LEAD. HIS FIRST GOPAL IN A WHILE AND THE TOON'S FIRST LEAD IN A WHILE
GOAL! Great header from Cally Wilson!
0-1!
Typical Wilson goal with a nice well placed header off the corner
Yesterday A train splattered Cherry juice at the House of Fun. Would you like a description?
You lot must be delighted by that.
Tu prends du jus d'orange mon ami ?
Great news for us. I just checked the table and The Toon still in the same spot despite leading. Now nine pints clear of the drop zone. It has really hurt you
Toffees now 7th and could go down a couple more spots depending on other results this weekend
J Rod not happy at being show a card. I guess it's not an early Valentine's Day Card
Isaac Hayden slices a Digned in pass for a Toffees corner
That's true - I just like to have plenty of teams between us and the dropzone.
Ton Francais est encroyable!
This would be a huge win for Newcastle, a real tonic for Steve Bruce.
Oh - Wilson is in again for a second and hits the outside of the post!
Oh - Hendrick went in really late there. Could have been red. Only a yellow.
A quintet of stoppage time minutes
Newcastle have a free kick now to seal it - better effort from Shelvey but still high and wide. He's got to go back to the training pitch with those.
Merci beaucoup mon ami . Je prend des classes en Francais et Espagnol en Duolingo
Shelvey needs to realize it takes more than a good haircut to be a top footballer
GOAL! Cally Wilson gets his brace!
0-2!
GOAL !!! CALLY WILSON WITH HIS AND THE TOON'S SECOND DEEP IN STOPPAGHE TIUME ON A BREAK OFF A TOFFEES CORNER
Classic Toon break and dreadful cross from Doucorre cleared to St. Max who st Jamaal Lewis free down the left and his great pass found Cally Wilson with just Picks to beat and he scored with a great finish in the corner
Toon win for the first time in a dozen matches as they win 0-2 at Goodison and their first double over the Toffees in a while
Of to take Sparky walkies ahead of the 10 AM matches
That's it then - Brucey has got his first win in yonks. That will really relieve a lot of pressure. Everton are stuck in 7th then, just behind Spurs.
I'm off to the shower.
Canaries vs Teesiders finished 0-0
In L1 Black Cats vs Gils Desmond in stoppage time
In L2 Carlisle leads Exeter 1-0 in stoppage time. Carlisle second on goal difference behind Cambridge
Next on NBCSN is Citeh vs the Evil Blades, which is underway from the Etihad
I'm back from a refreshing Saturday shower to enjoy the Citeh v. Blades match.
The mid table match between Palace and Wolves and the relegation six pointer between Baggies and Cottagers are the matches currently on the Cock
Welcome back, mate. Squeaky clean and ready to go
The teams on display:
Man City: Ederson, Walker, Laporte, Dias, Zinchenko, Fernandinho, Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Torres, Foden, Gabriel Jesus. Subs: Stones, Sterling, Steffen, Rodri, Mendy, Mahrez, Joao Cancelo, Garcia, Bernabe.
Sheff Utd: Ramsdale, Baldock, Basham, Egan, Ampadu, Burke, Lundstram, Fleck, Norwood, Bogle, Brewster. Subs: McBurnie, Sharp, Mousset, Lowe, Jagielka, McGoldrick, Foderingham, Bryan, Gordon.
Referee: David Coote.
Of course, I'm hoping for a big Citeh win today, as I was the other day at OT. Got to show these Blades who's boss.
And I'll take a damp draw in the relegation dogfight between WBA and Fulham.
GOAL !!! JESUS THAT WAS SO EASY.HE TAPPED IN FROM AN INCH OUT AS CITEH TORE THROGUH THE BLADES LIKE A KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER
It was a typical; marathon Citeh possession then a long ball from the halfway line was poorly back headed by Jayden Bogle and Ferran Torres won a slide tackle in the Blades box, then passed to Jesus for an easy tap in
Wahay! Let's have another, Citeh!
Just what the doc ordered . Bobby reid gives the Cottagers the lead at the Hawthorns
How is it that the Baggies have a decent defensive record on the road, but are a leaky faucet at home. Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Bees lead bottom club, Wycombe. Bees now second , by the slimmest of goal difference ahead of the Swans
Nope - I need a Baggies goal now to re-establish parity.
Brum in the lead vs Coventry as is the Evil Lions at Cardiff, the Rams vs Bristol City, and the Terriers vs the potters
Wycombe with a surprise equalizer at the Bees
OH! Off the post from Bobby reid. Nearly his and the Cottagers second as a nice long Tongue N' Cheek pass found Reid with just Sam Johnstone to beat
The top six in the Championship not doing so well this weekend.
Tigers in the lead vs Swindon as is Donny Osmond at Abe Lincoln.. Tigers now top , ahead of Abe on goal difference while Donny up to third
In L2 Newport in the lead at Harrogate. Cambridge took the lead vs Crawley, who ties it up three minutes later. Newport second behind Cambridge on goal difference
Yesterday there was a playoff six pointer in the Championship as the Reading Railroad defeated the Cherries 3-1. The Railroaders now 4th and the Cherries in sixth
The Cottagers need to knock it off!
Salford on top at bitter rivals, Oldham. Salford now 6th
The Baggies need to quit being so charitable. As I type Lookman through and his shot well turned around by Sam Johnstone
Swans on top at Rotherham. Swans second three points ahead of the Bees and Hornets
Port Vale three up vs rock bottom Southend
Evil Blades giving Citeh a tougher match than the Baggies are to a fellow team in the drop zone
Celtic being held 1-1 by At. Helen Mirren. As things stand Rangers just seven matches from clinching the SPL
In the National League top winning at bottom as runaway leaders , Fawlty Towers on top at rock bottom doomed Barnet
Harrogate ties it up vs Newport, who are now down to 7th. Cambridge top by a point ahead of three teams and two points ahead of three teams
I'm surprised that Citeh haven't gone on to score more and kill off this match, but that's the way it's been for them season. Not impressive.
Swans two up at Rotherham,
The Evil Blades have a lot of 1-0 losses. Despite their record they haven't been letting too many teams walk all over them . The Baggies have
Citeh one up at the half vs the Evil Blades
Half time - A bit disappointed that Citeh aren't 4-0 or so up at this point. It will give the Blades a thought that they might get something here.
Cottagers one up at the half at the Hawthorns
The second half is underway from the Etihad
Second half underway from the Hawthorns
Back from washing some dishes for the second half. Let's have some goals, boys!
Mbaye Diagne on for his Baggies debut in place of loan striker, Cally Robinson. He's on loan from Gala
Oh - great ball in from Zinchenko. no one in the middle.
GOAL !!! KYLE BRTLEY TIES IT UP FOPR THE BAGGIES. dIAGNE PLAYED IT WIDE LEFT OPT PERREIRA AND HIS DEFLECTED CROSS WAS WQELL FINISHED BY KYLE BARTLEY
Wild match between the Bees and Wycombe. Bees took a 2-1 lead , but Wycombe ties it up and it's now Desmond
Not a Big Club takes the lead vs PNE. Still second from bottom and four points from safety
Shrews take the lead vs fourth placed Posh
Cambridge takes a 2-1 lead vs Crawley and are now top by three points
Good old Kyle Bartley - wahay!
Stevenage takes the lead at Grimsby .Stevenage now four points clear of second from bottom Grimsby. Vale four up vs rock bottom Southend
Bees now lead all but doomed Wycombe 3-2.Bees now third a pair of points behind the Swans
McGoldrick comes on for the last half hour. He's usually their goal threat.
Like for like as David Mc GOAL Rick on for Rhian Brewster
I think he has four goals , which is amazing for a team that is last and hardly ever scores
Palace takes the lead vs Wolves
EZE does it for that Palace goal
Palace and Wolves trade spots between 13th and 14th
Bees now lead Wycombe 4-2
Eze is quite a rising star - I'd like to see him around the England set-up.
In the Dons Derby, Fake takes the l lead at Real and the Real now in the last drop spot, a point from safety
Fake now two up at the Real
GOAL !!! PERREIRA GIVES THE BAGGIES A 2-1 LEAD
A defensive error from Bob in the Cottagers defense. A poor clearance bounced off Karlan Grant and he passed wide right to Diang and his pass was toe poked in the corner of the goal by Perreira
Oh - that's not good - come on you Cottagers!
Baggies and Cottagers swap places in the table and Baggie four points behind the Seagulls from safety, but have a vastly inferior goal difference to the Seagulls
Ramsbottom does well to turn around a long range shot from KDB
Then he tips over a header from LaPorte off the corner
We've got some lovely snow coming down now - my favorite kind. Light, fluffy flakes that probably won't stick.
Rotherham pulls one back vs the Swans . Now 1-2
It's sunny and currently in the 70s with a breeze,. The high is supposed to be 83 today
Motley Crewe takes the lead vs the Tractor Boys, who are now 11th in L1
Long throw from the Baggies wreaks havoc in the Cottagers defense and Kyle Bartley shoots about an inch wide
With Citeh top, it seems like Johnno and MOT are in pole position in the PPP
Volley from Anguissa straight to Sam Johnstone off a free kick that was headed away
Billy Bloody Sharp on for the Blades now - booo!
Billy Sharp on for Olly Burke, who scored the winner at OT
Bolton two up vs the Orient Express
Nasty clash of heads now between The Door and McBurnie.
GOAL !!! DESMOND AT THE HAWTHORNS. THE SUBS COMBINE AS A CROSS FROM HARRISON REID BOUNCED AND WAS HEADED IN AT THE FAR POST BY CAVALIERO.
Harrogate leads Newport 2-1
Tranny on top at Morecambe and None Too Wise in a playoff six pointer. Bob wants a visual
Wahay! Fulham are back in it! Desmond!
Tractor Boys tie it up at Motley Crewe
These results are going just ticketyboo - Palace beating Wolves, Citeh beating Blades and a draw at the Hawthorns. Lovely.
Swans lead 1-3 at Rotherham
Kenny Tete onfor Aina
St. Helen Mirren leads 1-2 at Celtic. Rangers 23 points ahead of Celtic, but the Hoops have two games in hand
Matty Phillips on for Liverwurst on the final roll of the dice for Fat Sam.. Scotty has made all his changes too.
Oh - I thought that shot from Fleck was going in. Typical Blades, with a long lump of a ball up to the big man, knocked down and then Fleck onto the shot.
Real being held 1-1- by Levante at the Bernabeu. Athletico half a dozen points clear at the top with a pair of matches in hand
Citeh having trouble managing this match now. Walker has given up a late foul.
Ball in to McGoldrick who tried to dive at it. Cleared out.
Cambridge leads Crawley 3-1 while Oldham ties it up vs Salford , who are now out of the playoff spots and replaced by Newport
Citeh corner flagging it now - against bloody Sheffield United!
Shrews two up vs Posh
Even if Citeh win this one, this should give you and Dave hope, because Citeh will drop points on this form coming up. A win for you coming up and you're back in business.
Bees lead Wycombe 5-2. Blackburn in the lead vs Luton
Brentford now 5-2 up - what a ding dong!
A quintet of stoppage time minutes at the Etihad. Disgraceful by Chris Wilder patting the fourth official on the back
Agreed, Bob, but we should have never lost to these mugs. At least Citeh is getting a win
Citeh wanted a pen here. Nothing doing and Sheffield United can attack again.
Oh - Gabby Jesus could have killed it off but great save by Ramsdale.
OH! Great save by Ramsdale from Jesus on the counter. Nice pass from Foden . Corner to Citeh
Bees now lead Wycombe 6-2
I agree - but Citeh have not been rampant. They will drop points coming up.
Citeh hold on top defeat the Evil Blades 1-0 and it finishes Desmond at the Hawthorns
NBCSN off to Selhurst Park . Palace win 1-0
Over to Palace now. They've beaten Wolves who are on a terrible run of three losses now.
