Sunday's Best
Morning, chaps! I'm getting to the footie late this morning, as we had our usual late Saturday night. Fortunately, the big match starts at 11:30am EST. That's the crucial title fixture between top of the table Citeh and fourth-place Liverpool. It already seems like a match that Liverpool must win in order to stop Citeh from running away with the title race. Join me for all the action later this morning.

In the early match this morning, Spurs did me a favor of beating WBA 2-0 courtesy of goals from the usual suspects - Son and Kane.
Wolves and Leicester have just kicked off in the second half. 0-0 at Molineux.
Good morning, Bob. Thanks for getting us started. Still 0-0 at the KP with a quarter of an hour plus stoppage time remaining
OH! Fabio Silva misses a sitter. Corner headed out then Ruben Neves puts through Silva and Kasper just blocked his close range shot for another corner
Wolves currently doing United a favor by not letting the Foxes close the gap on United
Late Wolves substitution as Morgan Gibbs-White on for Pedro Neto
Kejani Hoover called for a foul on Vardy just outside the box
Into stoppage time
A trio of those minutes as Tileamns miss kicks off the free kick from the Fourth President
OH! Vardy with a free header in the six yard box heads wide off a great cross from ALbrighton . The subs combine for what should have been a late winner
The Foxes haven't won at Molineaux since 1981, a season in which the Foxes were relegated. To be honest these two have met mainly in the Championship since then
It finishes 0-0 as the Foxes stay third and Wolves remain in 14th.Liverpool go third ahead of the Foxes on goal difference if they win today
Morning, David - how's your weekend going?
Teams news out of Anfield:
Liverpool (4-3-3) Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Henderson, Robertson; Thiago, Wijnaldum, Jones; Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Substitutes: Adrian, Kabak, Tsimikas, Phillips, N Williams, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaqiri, Origi.
Manchester City (4-3-3) Ederson; Joao Cancelo, Stones, Dias, Zinchenko; Silva, Rodri, Gundogan; Sterling, Mahrez, Foden.
Substitutes: Steffen, Laporte, Mendy, Garcia, Fernandinho, Doyle, Bernabe, Jesus, Torres.
Referee Michael Oliver.
Alisson, Fabinho and Sadio Mane all return to the Liverpool team, while the new signing Ozan Kabak is on the bench. Pep Guardiola, who usually does something funky at Anfield, has brought Phil Foden in for Gabriel Jesus. That means one of Foden, Raheem Sterling or Riyad Mahrez will play as a false nine.
Good morning, Bob. Doing well, thank you for asking. How about you?
I'm reasonably satisfied with that 0-0 draw in the Wolves v. Leicester match.
Wolves stay in 14th on 27 points now, while Leicester solidify their position in third ahead of Liverpool, who will need to win today in order to jump over them.
Despite all their success, Citeh have not won at Anfield since 2003. Now is as good a chance as any even though we won't be rooting for that
Doing well, mate - just relaxing before I throw myself into the first full week of the semester.
You will be interested to note that the Foxes vs Pool is the early match on Saturday. That will be a crucial match
Wishing you a successful semester. Will the semester end late since it started late?
I just don't think either of these two sides are that good this season. That's why the title race is wide open.
We're ending a week later than usual toward the end of May, but we're making up a week by foregoing the usual Spring Break week. Should be just fine. A similar plan worked in the fall. And then hopefully we're back to normal with herd immunity achieved by the fall.
It's clear to me that Pep is intent on getting a draw today or perhaps nicking a win on the break. Teams coming out now.
That's true, but you will be tired by the end of the semester. Hopefully , all goes according to plan for the fall
Pep has found it tough going at Anfield , even in the title winning seasons. Pool have had trouble with deep lying teams and Pep is playing into that
Both teams in their traditional kits as it should be. They're off from Anfield
And we're away at Anfield. Citeh straight into their possession game.
The last time Citeh won at Anfield was as a newly promoted side with Kevin Keegan in charge against the club where he is a legend as a player
Thiago called for a poor foul from behind and deservedly booked for that
Gundogan has been on a great run of form for Citeh and this would be a huge loss for them
Bit of a nasty one there by Thiago - it's a "welcome to the match" challenge.
He's up and able to continue
A fairly cagey start to this one, as was predictable.
Just a reminder Leeds vs Palace tomorrow at 3 on NBCSN
Yeah - I'm hoping that I'll be able to watch at least half of that during my office hours. I teach at 4:30.
Hopefully you will be around. I will be to offer my support
The match is finally starting to stretch out a big with some incisive passing from both sides.
I appreciate that, mate - it's a match that we'll want three points from. If we get that, then we an breathe at the weekend when we face Arsenal at the Emirates on Valentine's Day. Another Dahlgren Derby Day!
Glad to help, Bob. Should be quite a Valentine's Day . A day of brotherly love or not during the match, LOL?
Oh - first real chance for Liverpool. TAA with a great ball in and Mane really should have scored with his header.
Arlo mentioned that Wijnaldum may not be a Pool player next season, with his contract expiring at the end of June. He should have plenty of suitors
TAA twists and turns past Zinchenko, then his cross is headed over by Mane
Nice ball through to Mahrez who earns a free kick. First chance for Citeh to swing one in but to whom...?
Foul by Mane on Mahrez on a Citeh break as Thiago cheaply conceded possession
Well, that was a hopeless effort from Gundogan - went out for a throw. As I mentioned before, Citeh are just not that good. I can't believe that they're just going to run away with it. There are still some twists and turns left in this season.
WOW ! Citeh have won one of their last 29 and two of their last 47 at Anfield since 1953. Now that's what I call a bogey ground
Oh - Bobby Chompers with a great volley that Ederson needed to take care with, tipping over for a corner.
Great defending by Curtis Jones on Phil Foden on a Citeh break off a Pool corner as Foden beat TAA for the challenge
Game starting to open up a little
Just a wee bit - the commentators are trying to keep the audience thinking it's a classic.
Another great cross by TAA and Zinchenko conceded a corner.
Zinchenko heads out a cross from TAA for a Pool corner
That's typical of modern day commentators, but this one has yet to live up to the pre-match hype
Good possession now from the home team.
These matches often do, don't they? Teams come out intent to not lose rather than to win.
Oh dear - Sterling bursts through and it's a penalty!
PENALTY CITEH! NEITHER A STERLING NOR FAB CHALLENGE. THEN LOOKING AT THE REPLAY, IT LOOKS A DIVE BY STERLING. WENT DOWN RATHER EASILY
Fabinho caught him - looks like a stone cold pen. Really good direct running from Razza.
Gundogan steps up and....fires it into the Kop!
Wow!
Gundogan to take.
WOW! THE PENLTY IS HIGH AND WIDE
That's a real let-off for Liverpool. Pep is livid about it. Clearly his game plan was to nick a goal and then to shut up shop with some tedious possession.
VAR checking for hand ball on Ruben Dias. Looks like one and just outside the box. Nothing doing
I hate modern day football!!
BLOODY PEP!!!
I still things are going according to plan for Pep. He can still nick this in the second half. Not going well for Pool as their scoring problems at Anfield continue
Mane is found brilliantly by Bobby Chompers and earns a free kick in a dangerous area.
Cancelo called for a foul on Mane inches outside the box off a pass from Bobby Chompers
Hiya, Dave! How's everything your way?
Thiago takes and it clips off the wall and goes out for a corner.
Free kick from Thiago off the wall for a corner
Corner in and Mane had a chance on the header but it was a difficult one slightly behind him.
A pair of stoppage time minutes
It is tiring!
The county called this morning and Kathy is being released tonight at midnight
Last evening, Shadow must have scrapped his wound with his e-collar and it was bleeding. Not heavy but wouldn't stop. I had to take him to an ER for them to put some staples in. I didn't get much sleep last night
Besides that....everything is fine!
So sorry I have been a stranger and there hasn't been the normal LOB Trio
It's 0-0 at the end of a cagey half where the best chance was a Citeh penalty skied high and wide
So sorry, Dave and completely understandable . Wishing everything was going better Hope Kathy and Shadow do better and that you can get some much needed rest
Back from walkies with Sparky and saw the goal as I was walking in the house. Shot from Foden blocked then the ball broke to Sterling who found Foden. Hs shot was saved by Allison and Gundogan easily smashed in the rebound from a yardout
The worst new possible from a United point of view. Citeh now five points clear of United with a game in hand. Pool may lose their third game in a row at Anfield for years
Pool now ten points behind Citeh hand hard to say they're still in the title race if they don't make a comeback in this match
TAA wins a corner off of Zinchenko
OH! Just wide by TAA of a superb long diagonal from TAA
It took a nick off of John Stones for a corner
PENALTY POOL! RUBEN DIAS PULLED DOWN SALAH
I'm just back from a soup lunch to see Mo Salah pulled back by Ruben Diaz. It's a penalty!
And Mo Salah sticks it in - no muss, no fuss!
Salah to take.
GOAL!!!! SALAH SCORES A GREAT PENALTY , SENDING EDERSON THE WRONG WAY. NOW 1-1
Welcome back. Sounds like a great lunch. Definite penalty
So now - will either of these sides push for the win? I hope so - it's nicely poised.
Liverpool have the momentum now, because Pep's Citeh predictably took their foot off the gas.
I think both sides want to win for different reasons. Agreed that Citeh took their foot off the gas. That's not like them
Good progressive move by Jurgen now - Shaqiri on for Thiago. And a bit of LUFC Academy magic on for Curtis Jones.
Shaquiri on for Thiago , which is an attacking switch and Milner for Curtis Jones. Overall it's like for like
Long range shot from Weekend at Bernie's wide on the weekend
Fabinho finally picks up a yellow card for hauling back Phil Foden.
Fabinho booked for obstruction on Phil Foden
John Stones volleys in a free kick, but it's disallowed for offside
Phew! John Stones stabs one home but he's ruled offside. Good offside trap work by the Liverpool backfour.
VAR checking to see if the goal should stand
True or False. Pep bringing on a true nine for false nine as Jesus is on for Mahrez
GOAL !!!! ALLISON GIFTS POOL A GOAL BY BASICALLY PASSING STRAIGHT TO PHIL FODEN , HE WENT ON A RUN , AND PASSED TO GUNDOGAN FOR ANB EASY TAP IN
Bloody hell! Two bad mistakes in quick succession and Foden and Gundogan take full advantage.
1-2!
Allison didn't learn his lesson as he had coughed possession seconds earlier, by trying to be cute and fancy at the back. Now 1-2
Liverpool still have 15 minutes to salvage a draw but it's hard to imagine them scoring twice now.
Wonder what Dave must be thinking about the goal that resulted from Pool playing out at the back
I agree. Desmond may come and stay till the final whistle , but don't see him making a wasted trip by coming and leaving soon after
Bloody hell! It's another Alisson 'mare and Sterling nods home from close distance.
GOAL !!! STERLIGN GIVES CITEH A 1-3 LEAD AT HIS FORMER CLUB
Absolutely stunning play by Allison.... so ridiculous!!!!!
I HATE MODERN DAY FOOTBALL!!
aGREED, bOB. hE PASSED STRAIGHT TO wEEKEND AT bERNIE'S DURIN G THE WEEKEND STRAIGHT ACROSS THE BOX AND CROSSED FOR sTERLING TO SCORE ALL ALONE AT THE FAR POST WITH A DIVING HEADER
Agreed, Dave. I had a feeling you would not be pleased with those last two goals.
Citeh on track to win at Anfield for the first time since May 2003 when Keegan was in charge of a newly promoted team. Pool about to lose three league games in a row at Anfield for the first time in years
Better for City to win the title than Pool
United don't deserve to win after yesterday's performance in the second half
City will be five points ahead of United with a game in hand
United need to beat City at the Etihad to make it a race
GOAL !!! PHIL FODEN GIVES CITEH 1-4 LEAD AS THIS I TURNIN G INTO A ROUT
GOAL! Oh - what a strike from Phil Foden!
It rounds off a MOTM performance.
1-4!
I admit it - I was wrong. I thought that the "false #9" set up meant that Citeh would play defensively. But they've picked Liverpool apart. If Gundogan had converted the penalty, he'd have had a hat-trick and Citeh would be 1-5 up!
Hard to imagine Liverpool coming back to rescue their season after this hammering. This is the end of their title challenge, for sure.
The goal came off a marathon possession that culminated in Jesus passing wide right to Phil Foden, who cut inside Andy Robertson then scored a rocket in the upper 90
Agreed with all of Dave's three statements and Bob's as well. Spot on. It's hard top see anyone other than Citeh winning the title this season
I can't believe that Liverpool defenders are still playing it back to Alisson!
That's still possible, Dave.
Take care boys
I will try and be around for our Uniteds on Monday and Tuesday
Citeh's first win at Anfield since 2003 has been a comprehensive rout and Pool losing three at home in a row for the first since I believe the early 1960s
Cheers , Dave . Hope things improve and look forward to chatting with you throughout the week
Into stoppage time. An LOB blogging trio of those minutes
Jurgen looks stunned!
Cheerio, Dave - take care!
Just checked the stats . One of the few times Citeh have had less than 50% of the possession in a match
He must be. This is almost a colonoscopy for Klopp
It's over and Citeh rout Pool 1-4 to go five points clear at the top with a game in hand
That's a huge win for Citeh. Liverpool have lost three in a row! Their season is effectively over.
Well, that was disappointing. That's it for me, mate. I'm off to clear the driveway of some snow that fell during the match.
Cheerio!
