Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Thanks for posting the thread for this afternoon's festivities, MUR. I'm looking forward to joining you after I grab some grub.
I've got a nifty link up through First Row Sports:
http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/93551/1/watch-tottenham-hotspur-vs-aston-villa.html
The team news is in from Shite Fart Lane:
Spurs: Friedel; Walker, Kaboul, King, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Modric, Parker, Bale; Van der Vaart; Adebayor
Villa: Given, Cuellar, Dunne, Collins, Warnock; Hutton, Petrov, Herd, Heskey; Agbonlahor, Bent.
There's a massive gap developing between the top seven clubs and all the rest. Villa can bridge that gap tonight with a win at Shite Fart. It won't be easy though. Spurs will be wanting to put some distance on their rivals on 22 points and leapfrog Chelski and possibly even Newcastle with a big win.
Jim Proudfoot and Efan Bloody Ekoku on the mic this afternoon.
Villa about to get us underway on what looks to be a misty, cold wintry North London evening.
Villa immediately try to punk Spurs front the off. Cleared out.
Bent launches a shot that will be orbiting several planets for the forseeable future. An extraordinary effort from the striker.
Gareth Bale gets behind his man for the first time tonight but his ball in to Ade is badly mistimed by the Togolese.
Hello BD. I just got back from Brownsville. I am ready to join you for the action.Thank you for the link.
Assou-Ekotto looks as if he's been taking hairstyling tips recently from Everton's Fellaini.
Afternoon, MUR! Hope everything's going well in Texas today. We're having a real Indian summer day here in WNY.
The link is up and running with the jabbering of Efan Ekoku, everyone's favorite.
First corner for Spurs now. VDV hits the first man on the post unfortunately.
We have had an Indian Summer off and on the whole month. It was in the low 90's this weekend and extremely windy and humid.
Yes, get ready for an afternoon of inanities from Efan.
I read that VDV scored twice in this fixture last season as Spurs came from behind to win.
Brad will be keen to do well as he left Villa this summer as will Kyle walker who was on loan at Villa last year.
It looks like Spurs have done all the attacking early on.
The link froze and I had to refresh.
Well, Villa came out of the traps quickly but faded predictably.
Link 1 did not work. Here is hoping that link2 does work.
Link 2 works. That is what I would have expected from Villa,BD> thank you for the update.
My link just shut off. That is odd.
GOAL!!! 1-0 spurs ADE SCORES A GREAT GOAL WITH AN ACROBATIC OVERHEAD KICK FROM A BALE CROSS AFTER HESKEY FAILED TO PROPERLY HEAD AWAY THE CORNER.
I got knocked off as well and missed the opening Spurs goal. Just catching up now.
I'll look forward to seeing that replay. It sounds like a Goal of the Season contender from Ade.
I initially missed the goal but saw the replay. Poor defending from Heskey. That is shocking!!!! Spurs have had 81% of the possession. I have never seen that in pro footie. Have you , BD?
It was a great goal, but it would have never happened had Heskey had a stronger headed clearance.
McLeish may join the sack race if Villa don't get out of this rut.
That early goal moves Spurs exactly level with Newcastle in third - 25 pts and +7 GD.
Agbon wins a corner off of Kaboul with a great run down the left.
I think I remember a similar statistic from the Barca v. Arsenal CL tie last season when Arsene was trying to park the bus.
Heskey heads well wide. He hasn't done well with headers in either box off of corners tonight.
Efan mentions Heskey's great defensive work, but with his selective memory forgot about his defensive work that led to the Spurs goal.
I think that is true, BD. No wonder why Arsene's teams don't defend . Great reference!
Cor - a ripper from VDV into the side netting.
Spurs. win a corner off of Herd. They take it short and VDV hits the side netting with a rocket from just outside the box.
If Spurs were to win their game in hand, they'd be a point shy of United. Are you at all worried by them?
A superb tackle by Parker on Spurs old boy Bent as the striker was through on goal.
Yes. I am taking Spurs very seriously . I do consider them a contender. Other than the two Manc clubs, they have dropped hardly any points.
Oh - that would have been spectacular. VDV angles a Beckhamesque curling cross at Ade but the Togolese gets the volley all wrong. A difficult skill to be fair.
I think Spurs play their game in hand vs January vs Everton in the battle of the American keepers.
It's true - since their delayed start to the season and their opening thumping at the hands of Citeh, they've been unstoppable.
Bale wins a corner after lots of Spurs possession.Spurs take it short and Bent heads clear as Spurs maintain possession.
A decent chip by VDV who chips just over with a cheeky effort.
VDV scored all four Spurs goals vs Villa last season , both 2-1 wins. Marc Albrighton scored both Villa goals, yet he did not make the squad tonight.
Jim Proudfoot mentions that Mark Albrighton hasn't even made the squad tonight. I wonder what's happened to him? He looked a tremendous prospect last season.
Heskey tried to find Bale with a cross after Bale conceded possession.
I agree. It makes Mcleish's judgement look questionable as results have not gone Villa's way.
Herd is not called for a foul as he appeared to trip Ade just outside the box.
If Spurs win tonight then this would be their best start since 1966. Well done Harry as he attempts to be Cap's successor for the England.
With seven wins in the last eight games, we would have to take spurs seriously.
VDV's delivery from set pieces has been unusual inaccurate tonight so far.
I agree. His best effort was that rocket that hit the side netting.
Dunne appeared to body check Ade in front of the linesman, but A goal kick was awarded.
Kyle Walker is down injured After battling Heskey for a header.
Shut it Efan. Heskey has not been strong in the air. His poor header lead to Ade's goal.
I can tell that Efan won't be on your holiday card list.
OH!!! That long ball from Modric to Bale was inches too long.
He won't be with those types of remarks.II might send one to Gary Neville. He's been a good announcer.
Speaking of color commentary, Gary Neville was doing the job for the Chelski v. Liverpool match and I thought he was really good. He commented at one point that David Luiz was playing as if controlled by a 10 year in the stands with an XBox.
GOAL! Ade with a brace!
GOAL!!! 2-0 AS ADE SCORES HIS SECOND WITH A TAP IN AFTER A SUPERB CROSS FROM A BALE AND A MIS HIT ATTEMPTED CLEARANCE FROM A VILLA DEFENDER.
Bale with a delicous ball in that Rob Green might have done better with. He was put off by James Collins whiff but Ade took full advantage.
2-0 Spurs!
I agree with Neville's assessment of David Luiz. After a good start, Luiz has been a disappointment.
I think Shay Given is the Villa keeper. Just a Rob Green style error even though he wasn't helped by that whiff from the Villa defender.
Btw, there was a lot of chat on yesterday's 606 about how Roman Abramovic may be growing impatient with AVB. So, you may well be right to place him in the sack race.
I think Spurs are full value for their 2-0 lead. Villa have been lacking in ideas in attack.
Spot on - it is Given in goal for Villa. Unlike him, I reckon.
Chris Herd is booked for a late challenge on Bale.
Chris Herd is the first into the ref's book tonight.
That is part of why I put him in the sack race; due to the fact that Roman is the owner. Also, it is all about results and AVB has been lacking in that department. I have not been impressed with him.
Two minutes of stoppage time.
VDV wins a corner off of Cuellar.
Halftime and Spurs deservedly lead a disappointing Villa 2-0.
Half-time and everything's going swimmingly for 'Arry and co. Back in a tick.
Superb halftime analysis by Andy Townsend and Gareth Southgate as they suggest Alan Hutton goes to right back to replace Carlos Cuellar and bring on Charles NZogbia to play on the right side of midfield to run at the Spurs defense. They also suggest Agbon and Heskey swap positions sot that Gabby can run at the Spurs defense. They are correct that Villa needs to have a go. Spot on Gareth and Andy.
The second half kicks off from The Lane with no changes to the best of my knowledge
Efan did something right for once and confirmed what I stated.
I agree with Andy and Gareth's assessment there. Villa certainly have nothing to lose by pushing two up front. Darren Bent was completely isolated in the first half. No changes at the interval, though.
Villa's first attempt at goal in this match as Bent heads to Brad from a great cross by Chris Herd.
Bent finally gets one on target but it's an easy save for Brad.
Bent and Alan Hutton are not having much joy against their former club.
It is odd being home alone. Elizabeth is at a funeral service in Brownsville . Jacquelyn will be home in about thirty minutes and Melanie and in a little over an hour.
Spurs are being a bit casual at the start of this half. Definitely have taken the foot off the pedal.
The corner was slightly too high for Bent.
Sounds like a quiet afternoon at your place.
I agree. Harry will not be pleased.
It will start to liven up about fifteen minutes after this match ends. I did go to yoga this morning.
Stephen Warnock's free kick falls harmlessly to Brad.
Well done, mate. I haven't been able to find a good yoga practice in town. I miss it.
Oh - Ade had a chance at the hat-trick but put his effort wide.
OH!!! JUST WIDE BY ADE AS HE SHOULD HAVE HAD HIS hat-trick as Modric put him through on the counter with just given to beat after some Villa pressure.
I am sorry to hear that . Some of the gyms offer yoga. I am not sure if that would be true for any gyms in your area.
Thanks, BD. It is relaxing and offers stress relief. I could use that.
Spurs nearly took advantage of Dunne's careless give away.
I do practice yoga at home on my own but I find that I don't have the discipline to keep it up for as long as I would in a studio. I rarely go beyond forty minutes.
Great run by Parker ,but Heskey and Warnock recovered.
That is a good effort , BD. You would do an hour in a studio, so you are pretty close. Keep up the good work.
Just wide by Kyle Walker off the corner. A pretty decent effort.
Oh - decent hit by Walker, who has really come on by leaps and bounds this season.
Cheers, mate.
A couple of big shouts by Spurs fans but nothing doing from Referee Halsey.
Great defending by Kaboul on Gabby after a theatric fall by Ade in the penalty area.
Oh - Ade again is just inches wide of his hat-trick after being played in by Bale.
Inches wide by Ade after a superb solo run by Bake. The striker was unlucky not to have a hat-trick.
Ade does have it in the net this time but it's ruled out as Aaron Lennon was ruled offside.
BD's favorite, Barry Bannon, is on for Carlos Cuellar.
Carlos Cuellar is coming off to be replaced by playmaker Barry Bannon. Some reshuffling from McLeish.
VDV is flagged offside from a long ball by Bale. It seemed onside to me.
Townsend and Southgate do not agree with Efan's assessment of Cuellar that he had a good match. I did not see good defending from him other than a few odd tackles.
Chris Herd is down injured , but should be okay.
I think we should buy Mcleish a bag as he has just entered the sack race.
I can't see that really, MUR. Villa are 8th - can they really expect much better than that?
I feel the same way about Chelski. Realistically they're looking for a top four finish, which they're level on points with right now.
Jacquelyn just arrived home from school and kindly brought the mail in.
You've trained her well, obviously.
I wonder if Villa were expecting to challenge for Europe and to be more entertaining . I think fans will put pressure on him due to his recent move from local rivals, Birmingham, and will be expecting more as a result.
Thanks, BD. Both girls need to improve on putting their dishes away after eating and picking up their messes.
This is another uninspired defeat for Villa. Their fans will not be pleased. I do agree that the top seven are starting to break away from the rest of the league. I am sure Villa fans were expecting to challenge for one of those spots.
One step at a time, eh?
A cross from Gabby intended for Bent went straight to Brad.
A fair point, BD. I disagree with Efan that both sides have put in quality crosses. Some for Spurs, but I have not been impressed with Villa's crossing.
Nearly a goal for Spurs after Given blocked a cross from Modric, then blocked a close range effort form Ade.
It seems that Spurs are satisfied now with the two goals and the three points. The match is petering out a bit.
A great run by Herd, but Bannon crosses straight to Brad. I am sure BD has seen that more time than he cares to remember.
I agree. It seems destined for 2-0 and Villa are not doing much to get back into this match.
Petrov catches Modric and Spurs have a free kick in a great position.
The free kick from Modric is headed clear.
The cross from Assiou - ekotu is deflected off of Dunne for a corner . It was nearly an O.G.
Spurs take it short and Parker has a shot deflected off of Warnock for their tenth corner of the match.
The corner is cleared and Spurs keep possession to run down the clock.
Petrov cynically fouls Bale about a foot outside the box after going skillfully past Heskey and Warnock.
Bale is hacked down unceremoniously just outside the box by Petrov and goes into the book.
The free kick by Modric is blocked then cleared for a corner.
The short corner is cleared by Heskey.
Delph is on for Chris Herd, who had a decent match. Was Better than most of the Villa players.
Way hay - Fabian Delph is coming on to make the LUFC Academy allotment for today's match - two.
Mcleish has put on two former Leeds players as subs, albeit one was one loan last season.
Too late into the match for the subs, IMHO.
Another wayward useless pass by Bannon. I am sure there was plenty of that at ER last season.
Agreed - McLeish needed to roll the dice at half-time to have any chance of getting back into this one.
Absolutely - Bannon was useless for us last season.
Sandro is on for Modric as we enter stoppage time. There will be two minutes of that.
He has been much better for Villa?
Not really. Otherwise he's be starting ahead of the likes of Heskey.
That's it as Spurs defeat Villa 2-0 with a professional performance as they move up to third place.
Well, that was all very tidy for Spurs. Nothing much to upset 'Arry's fragile constitution. Three points clear of Chelski now. Into third.
That is a perfect description of the match and events at the Lane tonight.
Andy Townsend is disappointed in Villa and I am too. For a top half team, they really caved in.
I agree with Andy Townsend that Villa should have given it more of a go in the second half, being two down.
That is true. It was a poor Villa performance and the likes of Albrighton would have made it harder for Villa.
Well, that's it for me for today, mate. I'll look for you again tomorrow for United v. Benfica and Napoli v. Citeh.
Cheerio!
James Collins should have cleared it so that he could have prevented that second Villa goal.
Cheers BD. I look forward to chatting with you tomorrow.
Hey Guys,
Spurs up to third... to stay?
Why did you guys watch it on the computer? Wasn't it on ESPN 2?
I'll be around tomorrow
