Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

A bit of insomnia has me up early doors today, so I'm enjoying the "Soccer AM" show on Sky here:
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/110991/1/watch-soccer-am-preview-show!.html
Brilliant - they've got Frimpong on for a bit of ping pong. Genius!
And a bit of the "Sportsnight" theme - UWS's favorite - in the background. Shame that he's still kipping.
They're showing that Cristiano Ronaldo wonder goal from last weekend, a 12 yard backheeler. Crikey - what a player!
Lovely jubbly - Soccer Saturday is up next.
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/111001/1/watch-soccer-saturday.html
Both Liverpool and Arsenal had great weekends last weekend, the Scousesox picking up the 2012 Carling Cup trophy and Arsenal putting their North London rivals Spurs to the sword 5-2. Who's gonna be smiling today?
Wahay - Sky are showing the late one so there should be plenty of links. I haven't seen my boys live in yonks!
Interview with Ian Wright, Wright, Wright now. First question - where's your statue? Brilliant.
Some chatter now about the conundrum that is Theo Walcott - the panel is wondering whether he can turn it on consistently. Methinks, no.
A bit of Football Focus now on My Premium. Go here:
http://www.mypremium.tv/
And then click on the BBC1 link.
Morning, Alexander! Do you take holiday snaps? Know what I mean? Candid photography. Nudge, nudge, say no more?
Here are the teams for this morning's big one at Anfield:
Scouse: Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Carragher, Jose Enrique, Spearing, Kuyt, Henderson, Adam, Downing, Suarez.
Subs: Doni, Carroll, Maxi, Coates, Shelvey, Flanagan, Bellamy.
Arse: Szczesny, Sagna, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Arteta, Song, Walcott, Rosicky, Benayoun, van Persie.
Subs: Fabianski, Diaby, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jenkinson, Gervinho, Chamakh, Miquel.
Referee: Mark Halsey (Lancashire)
The BBC continues it's central defender only pundit policy here with Lawro alongside Martin Keown.
Wahay - the ESPN2 coverage has started with Macca and Ian the vowel chewer at Anfield.
Wakey, wakey, lads - I've been up for an hour and a half now. Slackers!
Teams coming out of the tunnel now at Anfield. Where are ya?
It's a misty old day at Anfield as the Scousesox get us started.
Vermaelen gives up an early corner. Adam swings it in and it's cleared out.
Good morning BD. How have you been this week?
It's fourth v. seventh here today. Arsenal need to consolidate their position as Chelski visit West Brom today after some good form last weekend.
Morning, MUR! Great to have you on board this morning. Super week here - how about you?
Great tackle by Enrique on Theo.
It has been a long exhausting week. I have worked long hours and am ready for Spring Break.
I can imagine. I've got one more week and then I'll be in Gainesville, FL for spring break.
I will be around until the last fifteen minutes of this match and will be back for the second of the Leeds match. Melanie will be at a competition for violin and piano, then I have to go to an advisement session for the incoming freshmen.
Oh - Theo did well there. Got a quick shot off from an acute angle that asked some questions of Pepe Reina.
Reina saved from Theo, but nearly fumbled it in the goal.
Sounds like a busy morning, mate.
Are you going to U of F?
It is busy. Will be glad to get some rest.
I am - I'm doing a bit of research with my friend Jess Clawson.
Wow - Sagna hits one that goes out for a throw! Some laughter from the Kop.
Suarez is a wriggly little bastard; wins a corner.
I missed that as I was fixing a bagel and coffee.
Charlie Adam continues to show why he's so frustrating - his passes are either inch perfect or straight out of play.
A useless corner by Charlie Adam lands in the side netting. No excuses for that at this level.
What kind of bagel, mate?
A bit too slow there - Scousesox had a man over until Suarez overcomplicated things.
Nothing really working for either side at the moment.
I just buttered a poppy seed bagel. we ran out of cream cheese.
Suarez goes down in the box - penalty!
Is Sussudio in trouble as well? No - apparently not.
Suarez is fouled in the box by Szezny. Clumsy by the keeper.
I'm not sure that there was any contact there with Sussudio's leg.
Kuyt to take....he's Mr. Professional.
Saved...twice! Wow!
The Arsenal fans are going potty behind the goal - aces from Sussudio!
WOW! The penalty from Kuyyt is saved by Szezny , then he pushes the rebound from Kuyyt out for a corner.
The corner is headed away
What will that missed penalty do for this match?
I agree . Suarez went down easily, but I thought it was a little clumsy by Szezny.
It might give Arsenal confidence as they would have been down early.
GOAL! Oh dear - Vermaelen o.g.!
GOAL !!!! 1-0 SCOUSE AS JORDAN HENDERSON WAS PUT THROUGH BY DOWNING OFF A GOAL KICK AND A USELESS CROSS WAS DIVERTED BY KOS FOR AN O.G.
It wasn't really that great a ball in from Henderson and Vermaelen just whiffed it in at the near post. A horror moment for the lad.
1-0 Pool!
My mistake - it was Koscielny, not Vermaelen.
It's all Pool now. Sussudio keeps Suarez out again!
oh! THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN 2-0 AS szezny saved from Henderson and Suarez shot the rebound off the post. It all started with a great run from Charlie Adam as he went easily past Arteta and he put Henderson through.
GOAL! RVP with his 23rd!
Great ball over by Sagna and RVP got the wrong side of Matin Skrtel to nod home at the near post.
1-1!
GOAL ! 1-1 AS RVP SCORES WITH A NEAR POST HEADER FROM A CROSS BY SAGNA AS HE GOT GOAL SIDE OF CARADONNA.
Skrtel wins a corner off of Kos.The corner from Adam is cleared.
That Arsenal goal was really against the run of play.
I think that that was Arsenal's first real chance.
My apologies to RVP - it's his 24th goal in 27 Premiership matches. A tremendous record - by far his best return for the Gunners.
WOW ! Twenty four goals in twenty seven matches is really phenomenal for RVP.I wonder if he is doing this so he can get a big money move.
My vote for Comedian of the Year is Balotelli. He delivers the goods week in, week out.
I should start booking a ticket for D.C.I am thinking it's form the 27th of June through July 1st or is it a week earlier?
I've given up my hope that my Golden Boot boy Luis Suarez can match RVP this season. I don't think he's in double figures yet - disappointing.
BOOM BOOM , BD! My vote for charity of the year is the Arsenal defense. It's the gift that keeps giving and they don't ask for anything in return.
It's the week earlier. I'll be driving down Wednesday, June 20th. The quarter-finals are June 21-24, one match each day at 2:45 pm EST. England will play either Saturday or Sunday, depending on their group stage record.
Another gorgeous day here in WNY. I was out on my bike for the first time this year yesterday. Lovely.
Oh - Suarez with another big of magic but Sussudio saved again from him.
Brilliant save by Szezny from the wriggly bastard.
Skrtel heads over from the corner by Downing.
It's been unusually bloody hot the past few days, but we are supposed to get some relief as a front is due to pass through some time this morning.
I wouldn't say it's hot here - but sunny and 40F isn't bad for early March here. I see we may get some snow tomorrow, though.
Macca's not crazy about the Pool players knocking it out of play when the players go down.
I will fly in on that Wednesday and leave the following Monday. I noticed that there are three airports in the D.C. area.do you have any suggestions as to which airport I should land at? Also you mentioned something about basement space?
I noticed that. He's old school!
Ian says Suarez is in the mood. Her should be careful with his choice of words as that is what led to the eight game suspension.
Into stoppage time and there will be two minutes of that.
Bolton vs Evil QPR is the early game neat week. A cure for insomnia, but am looking forward to Newcastle vs Liverpool two days later.
Oh - Kuyt off the post! They had really opened up the Arse again. Unlucky.
Unlucky by Kuyyt as a cheeky effort from an Enrique cross comes off the post.
Halftime and 1-1 , but Liverpool should be leading . Time for a shower .
A cracking first half comes to an end there. Breathtaking stuff with a penalty, an o.g. and an equalizer alongside loads of chances, mostly for Pool.
1-1. Off to the khazi.
Back on at Anfield now. Pool to get us started. I wonder what King Kenny had to say about that first half?
Morning Boys
I watched the first half upstairs and I am now up and dressed.
Arsenal have not been very impressive so far.
Looks like Arteta got hit in the face and looks out of it
The stretcher is out now for Arteta who ran smack into Jordan Henderson. A freak accident.
Morning, Rip Van Nocito. Good to have you on board. I think that MUR is off to chauffeur his daughter Melanie to her concert.
Good morning UWS. How was your week?Back from a refreshing shower.
He's had to have oxygen as he's being stretchered off
Arteta receiving oxygen on the stretcher as he comes off - he must have been knocked out entirely. Abu Diaby to come on for him.
Arteta receives a standing ovation for m the Liverpool fans as he is stretchered off.Abu Diaby is on in his place.
Classy stuff from the Anfield throng.
I should be around another fifteen minutes.
My week has been okay... glad to have that snow day on Thursday.
Last night, Jonathan had a game and he scored a great left footed shot. I coach Matt's team this afternoon at 3. I probably won't be able to stay for the Leeds Sotton game. I still have FSC + so the match will be on the TV. No link required. Did anyone get a SS link?
Good to have you around, MUR.
Yeah - I posted it earlier today.
Glad to hear you got some extra rest and pleased to hear Jonathan's team won. wishing you the best as you coach Matt's team.
Arsenal are doing much better this half
I scored a tap in at the 5 a side on Monday for what it's worth.
Thanks ,BD. I don't get FSC+ , so I will have to watch Leeds vs Sotton on a link if I make it back before the match ends.
I'll be doing the same thing. I don't think I get FS+.
Well done, BD. I last played a match about twelve years ago. I am really rusty. I will need to work on my fitness and timing.
Blazed over by Theo.
I posted three jokes in the first half. Did you notice them?
I did a bit better this week. The week before, I was shagged out at the thirty minute mark. There are some horrendous ball-hogs involved, though. They make Jermain Defoe look charitable.
Suarez wins a corner off of Kos.
Szezny did well to punch away as Skrtel headed on and Vermaelen is down with what appears to be a head injury.
I hated playing with ball hogs like that. They do more harm than good and the other players become virtual spectators.
Arsenal have used 32 players this season. The most in their history.A record they were not hoping to achieve,
That link of yours has some lady's voice I can't get rid of. Do you know where it is coming from?
Vermaelen is booked for a challenge from behind on Suarez.
National Airport is definitely the better option for flying into DC. Dulles is well out of the city.
Yeah, my brother has a trundle bed that has a separate cot. We can flip a coin for which one each of us in on.
Naughty by Charlie Adam. I don't like the fact that Vermaelen is trying to get a player booked.
Sorry - I don't have a woman's voice on mine.
How about you, UWS. Any chance of getting you down to DC for a reunion the weekend of the quarters?
Thanks BD. Will UWS still be in school when the reunion begins?
Celtic's 17 consecutive game winning street has come to an end. They draw 1-1 at Pitodrie
I would look forward to listening to some Monte Python routines.
When was the last time you were in DC, MUR?
I am just not sure of my school schedule and COST
What an impressive run that came to a halt. They will till win the SPL.It's a matter of when , not if.
I have driven through with my parents as a teen down I-95, but my last visit was a toddler!
Mere details, mate. Mere details.
I missed your jokes, MUR. Where were they in the first half. I saw the crack about Arsenal's defense. Gooner won't be happy about that one!
I have to leave. Will try to be back for the second half of Leeds vs Sotton. Cheers lads.
Citeh's cakewalk against Bolton is on FSC
WBA and Chelsea is on FSC+
I think I will watch the second one. WBA have scored 9 goals in two games
The score in this match is perfect for Spurs
Oh - what a miss by Kelly! Went straight through him!
TTFN MUR
Called Macca old school for not liking the fact that the ball was kicked out of play and referred to Bolton vs Evil QPR as a cure for insomnia since it is the early match next Saturday.
That's true - the Baggies are in good form. They could give a spotty Chelski side some trouble, particularly at the Hawthorns.
Now I am off.
Pepe with a great save there!
Cheerio, MUR - see you soon!
Sagna's down now and the Kop are not liking the time wasting.
Another streak is going to end today
Swindon are two down at Oxford. They had one something like nine games in a row for DiCanio
Benayoun coming off - I didn't really notice him. Gervinho on.
BREAKING: Chelsea name an unchanged side from the team which beat Bolton 3-0, so Frank Lampard keeps his place and is captain again.
DiCanio is a great character to have around the English game.
Beayoun should have never left Liverpool for Chelsea. His career has had a big drop. He was really good with WH and Pool
I'm not surprised - the old guard did well last weekend. So, where's Chelskilad?
Both defenses are pathetic!
The terrier picks up a yellow card.
His email said he was at the carpet shop watching Mildenhall go by.
The store is right next to Indian Rest. There is a new chip shop there too
How does Downing get caps for England!!!
I don't remember that carpet shop.
You don't rate him? I think he's a useful squad player. I wouldn't start him.
I don't think it was there back then but the Indie was
Did anyone pick RVP for Golden Boot?
You have to admit he has been impressive this season
I do remember that Indian fondly. There was a bell on the door. They would say 'thank you' a million times when you were in there.
Yes - the Gooner and Simon, not surprisingly.
You got surrounded by four waiters even when you went in for a take-away
Did Diabi come off for OX-C
Bloody hell - Diaby's only been on for five minutes. Now he's off again and straight back down the tunnel. Oxlade-Chamberlain on.
It looks as if Arsenal have been settling for a point since half time. Chelski could overtake them with a win at the Hawthorns.
Charlie Adam should have passed it to Henderson... he was wide open!!
Well ... it was Henderson... so maybe he made the right decision!
I think the Arse have created more than they did in the first half
Did you see Mark Hughes' reaction at the end of the match? He almost pushed Jol out of the way
I am not liking Hughes as of late. I used to love him at OT but since he has left he has become a jerk
WHy is Bellamy only coming on now!
3 minutes plus a sizable added time
Kuyt goes at the assistant with some blue language... he should be booked.... he is just had a talking to
EIGHT added minutes at Anfield
I don't know what Craig Bellamy has done to King Kenny to deserve this treatment. He's definitely a better option than Downing.
I could see one of these teams getting the winner... not because they are good but because the other defense isn't that good
I CALLED IT!!
RVP DOES IT AGAIN!!!
GOAL! RVP has stolen it for the Gunners!
1-2!
What a finish from RVP as Song played a ball over the top and he just controlled it in on the volley! Lovely touch.
You did call it, Nostradavus!
The Merseyside derby has been rescheduled from last Saturday to Tuesday March 13... that is Spring break time... isn't it?
That's Arse up to 49 points and +17 GD. A priceless goal that might just see them stay in fourth.
Spurs fans won't be pleased... they are only 4 points ahead of the Arse.... Pressure on Spurs to get something tomorrow... let's hope they don't!
Pool will be 10 points behind Arsenal and fourth
Norwich play away at Stoke. They might start dreaming about Europe if they can pull off a win at the Britannia today.
Still 3 more added minutes
That is true - lots of pressure on Spurs who have been unsettled by all the of the rumors about Harry and the England job.
Mark Halsey has added on loads of time here.
Diid Carroll come on after the goal... I don't understand Dalglish and his side for a home match... one up front!
43 goals in his last 44 games for RVP... do you rate him Bob?
It is over... Well done Arsenal!
Well - to be fair - Kuyt was playing alongside Suarez. Pool had plenty of opportunities to win it in the first half.
Kenny should have brought on Carroll and Bellamy around the 60th minute mark. Benayoun wasn't doing anything.
RVP to get four in a six goal win on Tuesday???
Dalglish line up was three players in the midfield and then Downing and Kuyt playing winger/middie with Suarez up top
Oxford beat Swindon. The score was nil nil and Oxford went down to ten men!
Swindon had won 10 straight
I'm still not sure how Arsenal won that one, but Gooner will be delighted. I'd love to see a big Arse win in midweek.
I could see the Arse finish third!!
What does that say about the Prem that two of the top three will have lost 1-6 and 2-8 during the season!
You lot lost 6-1, Spurs lost 5-2 last week and Arsenal lost 8-2 earlier in the season. Doesn't say much for Premiership defenders, does it?
And didn't Spurs also lose something like 6-1 to Citeh as well?
Who knows - I didn't expect two wins in a row for Arse after their shocking week in Milan and against Sunderland.
I don't think Chelsea beat Spurs
Citeh beat Spurs 5-1 at WHL
I guess Citeh are the best team... of course, United will beat them at the Etihad later this season
What a result!!! And from bloody nothing. We had no work rate or pass completion and the subs were as desultory as the players they replaced. But that rat-faced Scouse vermin got what they deserved. Suarez dived for that penalty. Is there no end to his disgrace. I hope he goes home, locks his garage, and starts up all 8 of his sports cars with Spearing and Adams in the boot of 2 of them.
What can you say about the performance of Sir Chez? Monumental. Suarez cheats to get a penalty which he saves, and the only shot that beats him all day is a ridiculous attempt to clear his lines with absolutely terrible technique from Koz. Shockingly poor.
RVP covered by two rat-faced vermin all game but crosses from Sagna and Song buried magnificently.
Stan Kronke, whatever Robin wants, he's worth it.
Arsenal captain Robin van Persie:
"It means a lot to score at Anfield because it is a massive ground. We're proud of the win and I don't think we deserved it. Liverpool played better, but to nick it at the end is pleasing."
The SS link on First Row is driving me nuts - I'm going to try the one on My Premium.
News that Balotelli was out late last night but still in the team... let's hope he has a stinker!
Mine is too
Welcome Gooner... congrats
Beat Citeh and Chelsea as well pleased
In the Championship, we could use wins for Derby, Pompey, Watford and Evil Millwall.
You are going to be watching Citeh?
I'll have the Chelsea match... COME ON YOU BAGGIES!!
Congratulations, Gooner - a fabulous win today.
I'm watching Citeh v. Bolton, yeah.
ALEX DMITRI SONG BILONGGGGG! Plays the holding role, assists on 11 goals...ALEX DMITRI SONG BILONGGGGGGG!
I changed to mypremtv... link 2 seams to be okay
It is well behind the first row link though... i am seeing the same commercial!
I am going to go back
Nasri has the first chance. Blocked out.
And now it's Balo! Off the post! And Nasri should have finished it!
I notice that the comment box has a link to "Newest" now. That's better.
