Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 13 Update

Hiya, PPPers - I'm back after the last interminable international break of the calendar year with our usual weekly update of the PPP Game standings. Domestic footie returned with a bang with loads of surprising results. The upshot of it is that Arsenal reclaimed top spot again with a win over Brentford while Citeh dropped to second after a draw with third-place Liverpool. Villa defeated Spurs this morning to trade places with the North Londoners in the remaining European spots.

The relegation zone is where it all gets very interesting. After a Thanksgiving present of a 10 point deduction for FFP violations, Everton have now dropped into the dropzone in 19th, allowing Luton to escape the clutches of relegation - at least for this week. Of course, a 0-3 drubbing by United at Goodison didn't improve the mood on the blue side of Merseyside even as they must have admired that Garnacho overhead kick spectacular. Wow!

In the Championship, Leicester extended their lead to 10 point, while Ipswich dropped points to WBA and my beloved Leeds dropped two points at bloody Rotherham (grrr!). Southampton, WBA and PNE round off the playoff hopefuls.

Real Madrid are back on top in La Liga, which at least gives us a couple of point to offset the loss of 10 points at the top of the Prem. And the Striking Viking scored again, raising his total to 14 goals in 13 matches, setting a new Premier League record for the fastest 50 goals.

It all means a loss of quite a few points and has produced a new chart topper for this week - United We Stand! Here are the standings:

1. United We Stand - 35 points

2. Teddy Goalesevelt - 33 pts

3. Blue Devil - 30 pts

4. Bee's Knees - 29 pts

5. Someone Said - 27 pts

6. MOT the Hoople - 26 pts

7. Red Devil 1FCK - 25 pts

-  West Ham Rising - 25 pts

9. Man Utd Rules - 24 pts

-  oticoN - 24 pts

11. Red Dragon - 23 pts

12. Gooner71 - 21 pts

Back with a Bang!

It's been a minute but the Premier League is back with a bang this morning. How about a bit of Manchester City v. Liverpool to get the eyes open? That mouthwatering match-up is followed by the usual 10 am EST kickoffs, including Newcastle v. Chelsea. At the end of the day, we've got Brentford v. Arsenal. Quite a day, eh? Join me for all the fun if you have a chance.

Friday Night Yorkshire Derby

I'm settling in with the twins to roar the boys on as they return from the international break to face Rotherham United at the New York Stadium in the latest Yorkshire Derby. The Millers are currently languishing in 22nd, so we need an easy win. Come on, you Leeds! #MOT!!

Friday Night at Wemberley!

It's go time for Gareth's Southgate's England team - and our LOB friend UWS will be in the crowd with the missus at Wemberley. The stakes are fairly simple for England now. They've already qualified for Euro 2024 but need to win both of their remaining fixtures - at home today against Malta and away to North Macedonia on Monday - in order to gain a place in Pot 1 of the draw, which would assure not being grouped with one of the tournament favorites. Today's affair should be routine, but a good performance and a big scoreline would assure a level of confidence in the camp ahead of that crucial last fixture. Come on, the Three Lions!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 12 Update

Happy Monday, PPPers! Apologies for the lack of an update during a heavy week of the semester last week. Regular service is resumed this week, however, as we roll along through the domestic footer schedule. With that Sunday evening 4-4 barnstormer between Chelsea and Citeh yesterday, we came to the close of the Premier League for the next two weeks as we head into the last international break of the year.

That draw brought Citeh back on top again, albeit with Liverpool and Arsenal only one point behind. At the bottom, Sheffield United and Luton are now off the bottom, with Burnley replacing them in the cellar. The top three in the Championship are still in the same order; however, Leicester's two losses in a row and Ipswich's two draws last week have tightened things up nicely.

Erling Haaland scored another couple of goals at the weekend, bringing his haul to 13 goals in 12 matches now, with Mo Salah on 10, having notched his 200 goal in English footie. Somehow Girona (who?) have displaced Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, robbing all of us of two points. But Inter is reliably still top in Serie A.

All that means all change at the top with United backer UWS dropping from first 10th. And guess who's on top of the pops again - yes, it's your humble host Blue Devil. But it's very tight at the top. Here are the current standings with nearly a third of the season over now:

1. Blue Devil - 45 points

2. Bee's Knees - 44 pts

3. MOT the Hoople - 43 pts

-  oticoN - 43 pts

-  Teddy Goalesevelt - 43 pts

6. Red Dragon - 42 pts

7. Man Utd Rules - 40 pts

-   Someone Said - 40 pts

9. Gooner71 - 38 pts

10. United We Stand - 35 pts

11. West Ham Rising - 34 pts

12. Red Devil 1FCK - 27 pts

Thank Goodness - It's Saturday Again!

Morning, chaps - I'm up with the chickens as usual before the rest of the household wakes up to catch a snippet of the morning action. We start with Wolves hosting a Spurs team still smarting from that beating they took from Chelsea on Monday. Then we get to the 10am kickoffs, including ManYoo v. Luton on USA and Arsenal v. Burnley on Peacock. Our friend UWS is over in Blighty at that match today, so let's hope that his Red Devils treat him to a win.

At the same time, I'll have my eyes trained on Elland Road where my beloved Leeds United will be hosting Plymouth and hoping to continue our excellent recent run of form.

Enjoy the day, everyone!

Friday Night Special!

Afternoon, boys - it's a big one today, a right old promotion six-pointer away to Leicester. The Foxes are currently sailing away with the league and need to be stopped at all costs. A win today will tighten things up nicely. A draw doesn't do us much good but is more realistic. A loss basically means giving up on the idea of automatic promotion for this season. So it's all on the line. Come on, you Leeds! #MOT!
