Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

An All-English Champions League Final.....can both teams lose?

So, it is the 3rd All-English Champions League Final. United beat Chelsea and Liverpool beat Spurs in the two previous ones. As I said in the title, can both teams lose! Two of my least favorite teams on display here. I find both teams are boring to watch. Everyone goes gaga for Citeh but not me! Possession football is crap!! Chelsea are boring as well. They don't score many goals! So....who is the lesser of two evils? I am in the blue corner today.... oops...can't say that! I think both teams will be wearing their traditional colors for the Final....BLUE! Well done! Chelsea will be wearing this season's kit and not next season's...they lost the Cup Final in the new one. I am hoping that Chelsea will get a THREE-PEAT over City today.... ABBP...Anyone But Bloody Pep!!

Blue is the Color, football is the game
We're all together and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Chelsea, Chelsea is our name

The Most Lucrative Match in World Football

Good morning, chaps! I'll be honest - since Leeds were promoted last season, I haven't watched a lot of Championship footer. But I'm here to enjoy this culmination of the Championship season, but the stakes are enormous. The winner of today's Wembley Final between Brentford and Swansea will, of course, start as favorites for relegation but they'll still have a season in the top flight. For Brentford, it would be a debut in the Premier League; for Swansea, it is a familiar return. Join for all of the fun!

Premiership Plus Predictions - Penultimate Update

Hiya, PPPers - I'm checking in this evening with one more update before we unveil the winner of this year's PPP competition after the two big matches on Saturday. Since I checked at the end of last week, the European spots have been sorted out. In the end, Manchester City (as champions) will be joined by Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea in next year's Champion's League. Leicester just missed out and will end up in the Europa League along with West Ham who finished in sixth. Spurs will be in the inaugural edition of what's being called the Europa Conference League. The other big news from the weekend, which had major implications for our game, was Harry Kane adding a 22 goal for the season and thus taking this year's Golden Boot. That means that all of our Mo Salah fans have suddenly lost six points off their totals - sorry, folks! All that means is that going into the last day of the season, where we'll learn the last team promoted to the Premier League through the Championship Playoff Final on Saturday morning and this year's European Champion, sorted out in the Champions League Final on Saturday afternoon, these are the standings, with Swansong hanging on to a narrow lead over MOT the Hoople: 1. Swansong - 47 pts 2. MOT the Hoople - 46 points - Red Devil 1FCK - 46 pts 4. Blue Devil - 45 pts 5. What’s Up Wheaton Simon - 40 pts 6. Red Dragon - 38 pts 7. The Bee’s Knees - 37 pts 8. United We Stand - 30 pts 9. Teddy Goalsevelt - 29 pts 10. West Ham Rising - 27 pts 11. Gooner71 - 26 pts - Man Utd Rules - 26 pts 13. The Saint - 25 pts 14. Someone Said - 18 pts 15. Anfield Warriors - 17 pts 16. Pink Kits - 12 pts

It's Not the Premier League, FA Cup or Champions League.....BUT I'LL TAKE IT!!

So, United have made it into their EIGHTH European Final. It happens to be 22 years to the day of the "Solskjaer has won it" Final and on Sir Matt Busby's 112th Birthday!  A record of 5-2 isn't that bad.... BLOODY PEP!!! Can United make it six wins out of 8 in tonight's Europa League Final. I think OGS really needs to win a Cup... please start tonight!!! Sadly, they aren't taking on Arsenal in an All-English final. They were knocked out by their old coach Unai Emery. He has won this competition three times... that's enough for anyone! Hopefully, we are all in the RED CORNER later today

United's European Finals

1968 European Cup Final...beat Benfica 4-1AET

1991 European Cup Winners Cup Final...beat Barcelona 2-1

1999 European Cup Final.... beat Bayern Munich 2-1

2008 European Cup Final....beat Chelsea on pens(1-1)

2009 European Cup Final... lost to Barca 0-2

2011 European Cup Final...lost to Barca 1-3

2017 Europa League Cup Final...beat Ajax 2-0

Up next...

2021 Europa League Cup Final.... Villareal? Bloody Pep isn't involved!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 37 Update

Hiya, folks - I'm just checking in with you before the final set of Premier League fixtures on Sunday. The only major change this week was Chelsea rising into the third spot, which meant the loss or gain of one point for several of us. The only thing really at stake on Sunday are the last few European spots. The two Manchester clubs are guaranteed Champions League spots. That leaves Chelsea, Liverpool and Leicester battling for the last two spots. All of them are assured Europa League spots if they get shoved out of the big league. West Ham will have to hold off the challenge of Spurs for the last Europa League spot and Spurs will likewise have to hold off the challenge of Everton, Arsenal and even my beloved Leeds (if things start to get really weird) for the new, ludicrous competition being called the Challenge League. Honestly, at that point, you might as well allow the likes of Southampton, Wolves and Crystal Palace compete in a new European competition called the Mediocre League. Come on, people! Also keep in mind that the Championship Playoff Semi-Finals will wrap up tomorrow, with Bournemouth and Swansea going into the second legs a goal up. All of that means that MOT the Hoople is in pole position to three-peat with the LOB Shield, with Swansong five points behind. Here are the current standings: 1. MOT the Hoople - 52 points 2. Swansong - 47 pts 3. Red Devil 1FCK - 46 pts 4. Blue Devil - 45 pts 5. The Bee’s Knees - 43 pts - What’s Up Wheaton Simon - 43 pts 7. Red Dragon - 38 pts - Teddy Goalsevelt - 38 pts 9. West Ham Rising - 37 pts 10. United We Stand - 30 pts 11. Gooner71 - 26 pts - Man Utd Rules - 26 pts 13. The Saint - 25 pts 14. Someone Said - 18 pts 15. Anfield Warriors - 17 pts 16. Pink Kits - 12 pts

The Home Stretch

Afternoon, chaps! It's a busy post-semester day for me, so I'll be in and out of the action today, but I thought I'd post a thread so that we can contribute throughout the day. Our Uniteds play at 1pm, with us at St. Mary's to visit Southampton, while United host relegated Fulham in a bit of a dead rubber. At 3pm, we've got Brighton v. Citeh and the big Champions League qualifying rematch of Chelsea and Leicester. I'll look forward to chatting with you!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 36 Update

Happy Monday, everyone! I'm on summer vacation now, so I had some time to calculate the scores after the weekend before we get into the next sequence of fixtures tomorrow. The standings hadn't changed for a couple of weeks but it's all change after the big weekend. First, Leicester upset Chelsea in the Cup Final, which added some points for the iconoclastic Pink Kits and some Chelsea haters. Then Alisson's last-minute heroics for Liverpool against WBA yesterday catapulted the Scousers back up into fifth place, adding more points for a lot of us. Then Mo Salah caught up with Harry Kane again last week against Man Utd. Hey presto - more points. It all means that our current champion MOT the Hoople is back on top with an impressive 52 points now, and with Red Devil and Swansong trailing by five points now on 47. So here are the current standings with two matches to play: 1. MOT the Hoople - 52 points 2. Red Devil 1FCK - 47 pts - Swansong - 47 pts 4. Blue Devil - 44 pts 5. The Bee’s Knees - 42 pts - What’s Up Wheaton Simon - 42 pts 7. Red Dragon - 39 pts 8. Teddy Goalsevelt - 38 pts 9. West Ham Rising - 37 pts 10.United We Stand - 30 pts 11.Man Utd Rules - 26 pts - The Saint - 26 pts 13.Gooner71 - 25 pts 14.Someone Said - 18 pts 15.Anfield Warriors - 17 pts 16. Pink Kits - 12 pts

The Penultimate Sunday

Morning, chaps! I'm joining the action late after a bit of a lazy lie-in this morning. Already today, Palace have won an early morning thriller 3-2 over Villa, which helps keep Leeds in 10th, while Spurs have won 2-0 over Wolves to keep their European hopes alive for the moment. Next up is a must-win match for Liverpool in their quest to qualify for the Champions League next season. Jurgen Klopp's side travel to the Hawthorns to visit relegated WBA. I'll be a bit in and out during this one as I wrap up my semester grading, but join me for a chat, eh?

IT'S CUP FINAL DAY

It is Cup Final Day!!! Best day of the year growing up! Of course, the growth of the Premier League has diminished the Final and I hate it! It should never be played during the season! It should always be a stand alone game! The game belongs on BBC and ITV at the same time!! Both stations need to start their coverage at 9:30 am! They should be at the teams' hotels, they should be on the coaches on the way to Wembley, they should have the Road to Wembley feature, they should have Cup Final Mastermind, they should have Cup Final It's a Knockout, they should watch the players walking on the pitch in their suits! The teams should be releasing Cup Final songs! IT SHOULD BE A 3pm KICK OFF!! IT SHOULD BE THE THE CUP FINAL!!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 35 Update

Happy Hump Day, everyone! It's been a couple of weeks since I updated our standings in the PPP Game, simply because there hasn't been any movement in them in the last couple of rounds of domestic footie action. A lot of the positions are baked in at this point. For example, Manchester City were crowned Premier League Champions yesterday. Over the weekend, WBA and Fulham were both relegated to the Championship, alongside Sheffield United. The top five clubs haven't changed places in several weeks now. And Norwich and Watford have been promoted to the Premier League for next season. In Europe, Bayern, Atletico and Inter look set to claim their nations' titles. All that means that Red Devil and Swansong are still neck and neck at the top of the league, with MOT the Hoople in hot pursuit with merely three leagues matches left, the FA Cup this weekend and the Europa League and Champions League Finals to follow. Here are the current standings: 1. Red Devil 1FCK - 43 pts - Swansong - 43 pts 3. MOT the Hoople - 42 points 4. Blue Devil - 38 pts - What’s Up Wheaton Simon - 38 pts 6. Red Dragon - 35 pts 7. West Ham Rising - 31 pts 8. The Bee’s Knees - 30 pts 9. Teddy Goalsevelt - 28 pts 10. Man Utd Rules - 26 pts - United We Stand - 26 pts 12. Gooner71 - 25 pts 13. The Saint - 20 pts 14. Anfield Warriors - 17 pts 15. Someone Said - 14 pts 16. Pink Kits - 4 pts

Will We Actually Get to See United Play in the Premier League?

Due to last week's pitch invasion, it's been a couple of weeks since we got to see United play in the Premier League. This morning, their away to Villa, so United fans will have to travel to the Midlands to break things up. United will need to avoid defeat to keep their title hopes alive. After that, there is the vital European hopeful clash between West Ham and Everton. Finally, we round off the day with Arsenal hosting West Brom. Join me for all the fun today, eh?

Saturday in May

Morning, boys! I'm up at the crack to roar on my beloved Leeds as they host Tottenham this morning. They did us over 3-0 at their patch back in the fall, and, I'll be honest, when I looked at this fixture at the beginning of the season, I assigned no points for us. But who knows what you're going to get from week to week with this Bielsa side? That's the fun in watching them. So, I'm hoping that we can bounce back from the poor performance at Brighton last weekend and mash up the Spuds today. After that, we've got relegated Sheffield United v. Palace on NBC Sports, then the big Champions League dress rehearsal betweeen Citeh and Chelski on NBC and finally Liverpool v. Soton on Peacock at the end of the day.

Still the Biggest Match in England

Despite all of the chnages in the game over the years, the rivalry bewteen Manchester United and Liverpool is still the biggest one. Added to that this morning is that it's a must-win for both sides. Before that massive match, we've got Newcastle v. Arsenal, not a bad appetizer. Join me, won't you?

May Day Footer

Happy May Day, comrades! It's footer time again. I'm up early to enjoy the match up between Palace and Citeh. If Citeh win at Selhurst Park, then United will need at least a draw against Liverpool tomorrow to keep the league battle alive. That's followed by my beloved Leeds' trip to the South Coast to visit Brighton. The Seagulls stole one off us at Elland Road, so I'm hoping we can return the favor at the Amex this afternoon. The tea-time kick-off is a London Derby between Chelski and Fulham. And it's you're still hungry, there's the late one between Everton and Villa. Join me for all the fun, eh?
