Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Best of Friends?

They used to be best of chums, these two Portugeezers who are in charge at Chelski and Spurs. But - the love affair seems to be over, given the comments from both in the Fleet Street rags this week. It's all a fascinating build up to what should be a cracking London derby this morning. That gets us started on our soccer Saturday. Join me for that and all the other LOB action, won't you?

EPL Injury League Table

Woke up to the news that Theo's gone down again, this time to anterior stomach wall knack adding to the injury woes we seem to suffer every bleedin' season. Given our past history, you'd think that the club would want to increase the number of bods available when the next first teamer goes down. Yet with a full sick-bay, I read that tomorrow, we're down to serial underwear revealer Nik Bendtner to give Giroud a breather. Got me wondering, is there a link to which teams loose their players for the longest periods during the season, you'll never guess which one tops that league. Hint, they wear read and white. Here's the full table

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 5 Update

It was another topsy turvy weekend in the English domestic game, at the end of which North Londoners and their supporters are the happiest. No one was prescient enough to pick Arsenal as title favorites, so that's dampened the points numbers this week. However, Gooner71 has claimed 2 points for correctly predicting Paolo di Canio's spectacular demise. Here are the latest standings:

1. Matt - 27 points
2. Yellows - 24 pts
3. Man Utd Rules - 22 pts
- United We Stand - 22 pts
5. Swansong - 21 pts
6. Sporting Real Salt Lake United Football Club Juniors FC - 20 pts
7. The Red Dragon - 19 pts
8. Blue Devil - 18 pts
- Someone Said - 18 pts
- West Ham Rising - 18 pts
11. Chelskilad - 17 pts

Paolo Di Canio Walks The Plank

Does this look familiar? Hee Hee Hee ! It's the straw the broke the back of the Sunderland Board.  After a run of poor results, poor performances, psychotic behavior , and final this idiotic gesture the Sunderland board had enough and made this jerk walk the plank. He got what he asked for; feedback from the fans. If you call the eff yous , eff offs , and arm gestures feedback. He lost the respect of his players and fans. It was a good weekend for Gooner as his Gunners are top of the pops and he gets two points in the PPP since PDC won the sack race.

The Red/Blue Divide

We start this morning with the intriguing match-up of Arsenal against Sparky Hughes' new look Stoke City. But that's merely an appetizer for the main event - the Manc Derby. Drop everything and join me for all the usual LOB shenanigans.

Masseur Clears One Off the Line!

If you enjoyed the "Dog Scores Goal with His Noggin" clip from last week, then you're really going to get a larf out of this one. It's a league match in Brazil. The stripey side is about score when - woof! - in steps the defending side's masseur who performs a heck of a double clearance off the line. And then look at him scarper toward the tunnel while toting his kit wi' magic sponge - what a hero!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 4 Update

It's been a long time since the last update, due to the lengthy international break. Now that we're through Week 4 with Liverpool's 2-2 draw at Swansea tonight, it's time to take stock. No one's getting any points for predicting Liverpool as champions - although they dropped points, they're still on top with 10 points. Several LOBers are picking up points for Golden Boot, as Benteke, Giroud and Sturridge are now all tied on 4 goals. Here are the latest standings:

1. Swansong - 28 points
2. Matt - 27 pts
- Someone Said - 27 pts
4. Gooner71 - 22 pts
- Man Utd Rules - 22 pts
6. Yellows - 21 pts
7. Chelskilad - 20 pts
- The Red Devil FCK1 - 20 pts
9. What's up Wheaton Simon - 19 pts
10. Sporting Real Salt Lake United Football Club Juniors FC - 18 pts
- The Red Dragon - 18 pts
12. West Ham Rising - 17 pts
13. United We Stand - 14 pts
14. The Blue Devil - 13 pts

Monday Night Footie!

Liverpool's season so far is easy to sum up - three matches, three 1-0 wins, Three goals by Daniel Sturridge. No so much for Swansea, who are languishing at the bottom of the table. That's what's in store for us tonight. Tune in to NBC Sports Network and join me here on the blog, eh?

The Premiership is Back!

I like the international breaks more than most. But even I am happy to see a return to the regular scheduled league matches this weekend. It starts with a bang with United v. Palace at 7:45 am EST. That's followed by the 3pm GMT matches including Leeds visiting Bolton. Finally, we wrap things up at 12:45 pm EST with Chelski v. Everton. Come along and join me for all the action on the lOB in the morning.

Gol de Perro!

Sparky and Shadow look out! There's a new dog in town and he hails from the mean streets of Buenos Aires' toughest barrios. He also knows how to pop at the back stick at just the right time and how to put his head in the danger zone. I'll be looking for Brian McDermott to sign him up post haste - we could use some of that aerial power at Elland Road. Woof!

The Big Ones!

It's been a bit quiet around the LOB home front recently, which I can only think is because we've all been anticipating a quite epic day of blogging today. It all starts at 2:45 on GolTV with England's crucial away tie with Ukraine. A win there and England can start buying their sunscreen for the Copacabana trip. Then later on we've got the US v. Mexico from Columbus. Again - a win assures US qualification (and puts Mexico in a right pickle!). Drop on by for a natter, eh?

The Road to Rio Turns into the Home Stretch

It's another bumper day of World Cup qualifiers, highlighted at 3pm EST with England v. Moldova from Wemberley on Fox Sports 1 and the US away to Costa Rica at 10pm EST on BEin. I've got The Cottage outfitted with BEin, Fox Soccer Plus and a load of other channels (Real Madrid TV?) that I won't be needing any time soon. Join me for all of the international football blogging action that you can stand.

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 3 Update

As we ease into the international football break this week, it's time to take a check on the current standings of our PPP game. It's all change as table-topping Liverpool and top scorer Olivier Giroud have really thrown a spanner into the works. None of us chose either of those two. That means, for example, that Matt lost a whopping 21 points in one week alone - sorry, Matt. Such are the fluctuations of the PPP in the early part of the season. Here is the current table:

1. The Red Dragon - 23 points
2. Yellows - 21 pts
3. Matt - 19 pts
- Someone Said - 19 pts
5. Sporting Real Salt Lake United Football Club Juniors FC - 18 pts
- United We Stand - 18 pts
7. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 17 pts
8. The Red Devil FCK1 - 16 pts
- West Ham Rising - 16 pts
10. Man Utd Rules - 15 pts
- Swansong - 15 pts
12. Gooner71 - 12 pts
13. Blue Devil - 11 pts
- Chelskilad - 11 pts

Transfer Deadline Day Live!

It's transfer deadline day and you can follow all of the big moves and comment on them here on the LOB. The big news so far is that the Gareth Bale saga is finally over, bit old Monkey Boy finally off to Real Madrid for a record-breaking fee. Coming in the other direction is Mesut Ozil, who has agreed to terms with Arsenal for £42 million and Maroune Fellaini who's off to Old Trafford. I'll look for your thoughts here.
