So.... is it really starting on June 17th? The same day as my last day "with kids" for my career!

The two matches on that Wednesday would be the two matches that were postponed because of the League Cup Final. Man City vs Arsenal(the first game postponed for Covid) and AstonVilla vs Sheffield Utd.(come on Villa!!) A win by the Blades would move them above United into fifth!

What do we still have to decide? Everything!

Savage Chats

I just wanted to let you lot know that Robbie Savage has started a series of chats with British footballing legends on the 606 pod. So far they've been fairly Man Utd oriented with chats with Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand. But the latest - featuring Jack Wilshere - will appeal to The Gooner. They're really entertaining, especially while we're missing the real stuff.

FA Cup Final Day

As I have said many many times, Cup Final day was my favorite day of the year. I was excited the whole week getting ready for Saturday. I would get up early and watch all the build up. At the team hotels, on the bus to Wembley, It's A Knockout, Question of Sport and all the features!
Tomorrow would have been Cup Final Day if it wasn't for bloody Covid!! The day has lost its luster in recent years but it will always be big in my mind.

Championship to Return on June 6?

As you may have heard, footie authorities in the UK have been engaged in high level discussions all week about the possibility of bringing back footie in the next month in a desperate attempt to finish the 2019/2020 season. What appears to be emerging from those talks is a plan that would have the Championship back on Saturday, June 6 with the Premier League following suit a week later on Saturday, June 13.

I personally think that this is sheer madness, even if they take all of the precautions in the world (e.g., played "behind closed doors" without crowds of fans, socially isolating subs, etc.). I still prefer the idea of scrapping the current season, awarding Liverpool the title, promoting Leeds and WBA and going with a temporarily larger Prem for the 2020/2021 season.

Your thoughts, gents?

Most Influential Albums

I have been following some friends posting their top ten most influential albums. I started an email with my two brothers, Phil and Jon Thornalley and Clark Datchler(JHJ) I have seen lists from Mike and Phil and couple of friends. I was wondering what albums would you pick. I can't really come with albums. I was more of a single here and single there... and Man Utd!

One of Mike's picks was Glen Campbell Live. He then went to say that Glen was at his LHS graduation!! His daughter Kelli graduated the same year as Mike!

David, will you be able to come up with albums or will you be like me?

606 is Back!

Hiya, chaps! I just wanted to let you know that 606 has started to broadcast special discussions about the plight of footer, with fan favorite Robbie Savage and Chris Sutton often sparring with each other about the various ideas, which compere Alistair Bruce Ball tries to moderate between them. It's just a joy to hear them back on the air and to hear fans calling in about footer, even if there aren't any games to discuss. Anyway, check it out on iTunes or the Beeb. It's quite entertaining.

Happy Birthday, LOB!

This blog is, believe it or not, fourteen years old today. It's an odd time for a celebration, as we're not able to do what we love these days due to the pandemic quarantine, but I'm still going to raise a glass for all of the companionship that I've enjoyed with all of you over all of these years.

Many thanks to the LOB regulars who make this such as vital resource for us. Let's hope we can keep it all going for many years to come! Cheers!
