Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 3 Update

Happy Monday, everyone - I'm here as usual to tot up the points from this week's thrilling action in the Premier League and beyond. Man City's late win over Sheffield United ensured that the champions occupy the top spot for the first time this season. So, 10 points just about all round for us. At the bottom of the league, Everton and Luton are bringing us some points.

Into the Championship, many of us picked recent Premier League participants - Leicester and Southampton to make an immediate return. Real Madrid similarly rose to the top of La Liga for the first time. Erling Haaland's header against the Blades makes him joint top goalscorer, bringing all of us six points.

So, you'll notice more points bouncing around the standings, which look like this with Teddy Goalesevelt well ahead at the top of the league for the first time this season:

1. Teddy Goalesevelt - 45 points

2. Bee's Knees - 39 pts

3. Red Dragon - 38 pts

4. Blue Devil - 37 pts

5. Man Utd Rules - 36 pts

-   West Ham Rising - 38 pts

7. Gooner71 - 35 pts

-   MOT the Hoople - 35 pts

-   Someone Said - 35 pts

10. oticoN - 33 pts

-   United We Stand - 33 pts

12. Red Devil 1FCK - 21 pts

Thank Goodness It'a Saturday

Then it's new look Arsenal in a London Derby with Fulham. Finally the late one on NBC is high-flying Brighton v. West Ham.

Join me for a natter if you're watching.

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 2

Evening chaps, I'm here as usual late on a Monday night with the weekly check-in on our PPP standings. With Arsenal's penalty win over Palace this evening, Week 2 of the Premier League came to a close. Quite improbably, Brighton and Hove Albion sit atop the league. Did any of us pick the Seagulls to win the title? No, we did not. Add Brentford's presence in the top five and there not a lot of points around this week. At the bottom, Burnley, Wolves and Everton are propping things up.

In the Championship, the Tractor Boyz continue to fly (and they're scheduled to play an understaffed Leeds next weekend - yikes!), while promotion favorites, Leicester and Southampton are still in the hunt. Serie A and the Bundesliga kicked off this weekend, but it's still early doors. Somehow the Golden Boot leaders are Solly March and Bryan Mbeauma.

It all means that our current champion Red Dragon is tied with his dad UWS at the top. So, here are the standings this week:

1. Red Dragon - 21 points

-  United We Stand - 21 pts

3. MOT the Hoople - 19 pts

4. Bee's Knees - 17 pts

-  Teddy Goalesevelt - 17 pts

6. Red Devil 1FCK - 16 pts

7. Gooner71 - 15 pts

-   Someone Said - 15 pts

-   West Ham Rising - 15 pts

10. Blue Devil - 14 pts

-   Man Utd Rules - 14 pts

12. oticoN - 12 pts

Friday Afternoon at Elland Road!

TGIF, LOBers! I'm settling in to follow my beloved Leeds United's third match in the Championship. I'll be honest, it's been a brutal week for the club. We followed a miserable 1-0 loss at Birmingham by losing the services of Jack Harrison and Tyler Adams, with no other players incoming. It then doesn't bode well for the visit today of WBA, led by our old friend Carlos Coberan, who was an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa back in the good old days. I've got a sinking feeling about this one but I'm hoping that the boys will prove me wrong and register our first competitive win since April. Come on, you Whites! #MOT!

RIP Sir Michael Parkinson

Sad news today of the loss of another iconic figure from our youth, Sir Michael Parkinson, who has died at the age of 88. "Parky" was a fixture in our home and one of my mom's favorites. Most of my American friends know him from his brief but very funny cameo alongside Bill Nighy in "Love Actually. He'll be missed. RIP Sir Michael. Please feel free to post your favorite memories of the Parkinson show.

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 1 Update

Evening, all! It was a whirlwind first round of matches in the Premier League and second round in the EFL, and I'm here to take stock of all of it and our standings. At the top of the Premier League, Newcastle made a statement of intent by thrashing Aston Villa 5-1. Of the top sides, City, Arsenal and ManYoo all registered wins, while Chelsea and Liverpool played out a drab 1-1 draw at the Bridge. At the bottom, Luton predictably started in the dropzone and Burnley and Villa join them. At the top of the Championship, our old local favorites Ipswich Town are top of the heap with several clubs chasing them.

I suppose it was inevitable that Erling Haaland notched the first (and second) goal(s) in the Prem, wasn't it? That yielded most of us 2 points right off the bat and all of us 6 points for top scorer alongside the Toon's Alex Isak. No one guessed the hapless Burnley lad who got sent off in stoppage time, so the one point is still up for grabs and no one has grabbed a hat-trick yet.

It all means that our first leader this season is West Ham Rising, with an impressive start of 25 points. Here are the full standings after Week 1:

1. West Ham Rising - 25 points

2. Someone Said - 23 pts

3. Man Utd Rules - 22 pts

-  Red Devil 1FCK - 22 pts

5. MOT the Hoople - 21 pts

-  Red Dragon - 21 pts

-  Teddy Goalesevelt - 21 pts

-  United We Stand - 21 pts

9. Bee's Knees - 20 pts

10. Blue Devil - 19 pts

-  oticoN - 19 pts

12. Gooner71 - 15 pts

The First Saturday of the Season

Morning, chaps! Anyone fancy a spot of footer? Well, there are lashings of it on the telly today. It all starts with new-look Arsenal hosting Forest at the Emirates in the early one. How will the Gunners respond to Citeh's performance at Turf Moor in yesterday's opener? That's followed by the full slate of Premier League and EFL matches. I'll have my eye firmly on my beloved Leeds United's away day in the Midlands taking on Birmingham at St. Andrew's. Meanwhile, Luton Town play their first match back in the top flight away to Brighton. The late one is Newcastle hosting Villa.

Join me if you're watching, won't you?

Welcome to the New Premier League Season!

It's the start of that long and winding road again, gents. Sadly, my beloved Leeds United won't be included this season, but there will still be plenty of thrills and spills without us around. I'll be in and out of this afternoon's opener between Burnley and Citeh, but I thought I'd get this thread started for those who are around. Let's get started!

A New Era Begins!

Welcome back, boys! It's been a very quiet summer here on the LOB but best believe that with the return of the Championship this weekend, this blog will kick back into high gear. Having watched some of our rivals, my beloved Leeds boys kick off the Farke Era with a home match against our old foes Cardiff City this morning. It's been a frustrating summer with a long wait for the SF 49ers to take over the club and to appoint our new manager. Many of us our nervous about the thin nature of the squad, with only 16 fit players available for this opener. However, a new season always brings new hope. So, come on, you Whites - let's go! #MOT!
