Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Keeping Up with the Manchesters

I've taken advantage of the time difference with the UK to wake up a bit later this weekend. But I'm settling in now to enjoy Sheffield United v. Citeh. After that it's Burnley hosting Chelsea at 11:30. Then we finish up at Anfield with Liverpool hostng upstart West Ham. It's all here for us, lads, so enjoy!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 6 Update

A very good Tuesday morning, everyone. I'm here as usual to update the standings for our PPP Game. The crazy domestic season continued this weekend, with results that continued to defy logic. That means that the likes of Everton, Aston Villa, Leicester and even my beloved Leeds continue their unlikely rise to the top of the division, while perennial power Man City, Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal continue to falter. Burnley, Sheffield and Fulham continue at the bottom of the table. We're doing better for points, with favored sides such as Bournemouth, Norwich and Watford vying for promotion. Tottenham's Son Hyeung-Moon and Harry Kane are top of the goalscoring and assist charts, vaulting Spurs to fifth in the table. All of this means that we've got a new leader this week Red Devil 1FCK. Here are the current standings: 1. Red Devil 1FCK - 20 points 2. Swansong - 18 pts 3. The Bee's Knees - 17 pts - Someone Said - 17 pts 5. Blue Devil - 15 pts - What's Up Wheaton Simon - 15 pts 7. MOT the Hoople - 14 pts - Red Dragon - 14 pts - West Ham Rising - 14 pts 10. Anfield Warriots - 13 pts 11. United We Stand - 12 pts 12. Man Utd Rules - 10 pts 13. Gooner71 - 9 pts - Teddy Goalsevelt - 9 pts 15. The Saint - 8 pts 16. Pink Kits - 7 pts

A Lazy Sunday

I took advantage of the UK Fall Back to sleep in a bit. I'll be honest - I'll likely be in and out this morning, while Southampton v. Everton and Wolves v. Newcastle this morning. I'm mainly interested in the late one between Arsenal and Leicester, which promises to be a fascinating encounter. But I thought I'd start us off and chip in from time to time. Enjoy the day, chaps!

Another Big Saturday in the Prem

I've barely gotten over the thrill of that big Leeds victory yesterday, and suddenly we're upon another big Saturday in the Premier League again. It all starts on Peacock early this morning with West Ham hosting Man City. That's followed by lowly Fulham at home to Palace on NBC Sports. Then there is the big lunchtime fixture - Man Utd v. Chelsea. It doesn't get bigger than that. Finally, if you haven't had enough, there is Liverpool v. Sheffield United to take you into your evening. Join me for all the fun right here.

A Friday Evening Cracker!

TGIF, LOBers! I've made it through another week of the semester and am settling in to enjoy another Leeds match. We haven't won every match this season, but I've loved every thrilling minute of it. Bielsa's Leeds team are so much fun to watch, I can't wait for the next match to come along. This afternoon, we're at Villa Park to meet Aston Villa, who've been flying so far this season. It should be an absorbing affair between two sides who only know how to attack. Based on my patented rubric, we only need a point from this match, as Villa were a bottom half side last season. Come on, you Leeds boys! #MOT!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 5 Update

Hi there, PPPers. After the interminable international break, the Premier League roared back into action over the weekend, so I'm back to update our standings. The league continues to defy expectations this season, several unfancied clubs (Everton, Villa and Leicester) at the top, thus denying a lot of us points and several of the perennial powers suffering. The bottom of the table is a little more predictable with two of the recently promoted clubs in the bottom four. In the Championship, Bristol City continues to lead the league, with Bournemouth, Swansea and Watford in hot pursuit, giving us a few points. But Europe is not helping, with Leipzig, AC Milan and Real Sociedad leading. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Son Hyeung-Min continue to lead the scoring charts with 7 and Harry Kane leads in assists with 7. So, here are the current standings: 1. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 22 pts 2. Someone Said - 20 pts 3. Swansong - 19 pts 4. Red Dragon - 17 pts 5. Red Devil 1FCK - 15 pts 6. Blue Devil - 13 pts 7. MOT the Hoople - 12 pts 8. Teddy Goalsevelt - 11 pts - United We Stand - 11 pts - West Ham Rising - 11 pts 11. The Bee's Knees - 8 pts - Gooner71 - 8 pts - The Saint - 8 pts 14. The Anfield Warriors - 7 pts - Man Utd Rules - 7 pts - Pink Kits - 7 pts

Man United at PSG

Big stakes right out of the box today in United's first match of this year's CL campaign.

Another Big Leeds Evening in the Premier League!

It's another big Premier League evening at Elland Road for my beloved Leeds United. We've had a brilliant start to the season but we need to continue the momentum that we had before the international break. Based oon my patented survival metric, we only need to get a point today against Wolves, as they were a top half side last season. I'd also like to see some goals, so, say, a 3-3 thriller would suit me to a tee. Come on, you Whites! #MOT!

Sunday in the Prem

Morning, chaps - I hope you're enjoying a relaxing weekend. I decided to have a bit of a lie in this morning, but I thought I'd get the thread going so that, if you're up early watching the relegation dogfight between the Blades and the Cottagers, you'd have a place for it. I'll likely be up and around for Palace and Brighton, but I'm mainly interested in the late morning London Derby betweeen West Ham and Spurs. So, grab your breakfast and a cuppa and join me whenever you're up and around.

Morning on the Mersey

A very good Saturday morning, everyone! The Premiership is back after what seemed like an especially long and tedious international break with some preposterous Nations League tosh. And the league is back with a bang - the Merseyside Derby as the lunch-time kickoff. No messing about at all. And this is a Merseyside Derby to fire the imagination, where, for the first time in ages, Everton have a good chance to beat Liverpool. After that, we've got Chelsea v. Soton alongside the other league matches at 10am. Then there is another big, big match on NBC - Man City v. Arsenal. And then we finish up with United against Newcastle v. United. What a day! Join me for all the fun and games.

Nations League Wednesday!

It's time for another bit of Nations League tosh today, with Gareth Southgate's England boys takiing on Denmark at an empty Wembley Stadium. I'll be having a sneaky peek at the match on the Plus during my office hours this afternoon. Come on, you Three Lions!

Sunday, October 11, 2020

Belgium v. England!

A very happy Sunday morning, chaps! Let's be honest - this Nations League is a bit of tosh, isn't it? No one bar MUR has any idea what on earth is going on. But the games keep coming and today's offering is, well, a bit more serious than a match with Iceland. Belgium are a proper football team and it's high time for England to exact some revenge for those two losses to the Red Devils in the last World Cup. So join me from around 11:45am for the build up to the match at noon EST on the Plus. Come on, you Three Lions!

England vs Wales friendly

I've got mixed feelings about friendlies during the global pandemic, but I'll be watching on the ESPN Plus today. Join me after 2:45pm for the 3pm kickoff

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 4 Update

Hiya, PPPers - I'm checking in on a Wednesday afternoon to update our standings as we head into another interminable international break. As you know, it's been a confounding season, with more thrills and spills than any season in recent memory. Just look at those scorelines over the weekend? Cor! In any case, it all means that Everton and Leicester are on top as are Gooner Simon and Toffees fan Someone Said. Here are current standings: 1. What’s Up Wheaton Simon - 23 pts 2. Someone Said - 19 pts 3. Swansong - 17 pts 4. Blue Devil - 14 pts - Red Dragon - 14 pts 6. West Ham Rising - 13 points 7. Gooner71 - 11 pts - Man Utd Rules - 11 pts - MOT the Hoople - 11 pts - Red Devil 1FCK - 11 pts - United We Stand - 11 pts 12. The Bee’s Knees - 10 pts - Teddy Goalsevelt - 10 pts 14. Anfield Warriors - 8 pts 15. Pink Kits - 7 pts - The Saint - 7 pts

Transfer Deadline Day!

Happy Transfer Deadline Day! As is traditional on these days, I'm posting a thread so that we can chat about the big news of the day. I'll be following all of the moves throughout the day on the Guardian blog and there is a nifty Transfer Deadline Day wrap-up show from 4-6pm on NBC Sports. So, who have you got your eye on for your club today?

A Busy Sunday in the Prem

Monday, chaps - I'm settling into my easy chair a half hour into this big day of Premier League action. It's a busy schedule, with several matches on at the same time, for the first time this season. Join me in the fray.

Saturday, October 03, 2020

Another Big Day in the Prem

I'm up early as usual to enjoy another thrilling day of Premier League football. It all starts on Peacock with Chelsea hosting a surprisingly impressive Crystal Palace for a lunch time London Derby. Then we switch to NBC Sports for Everton, who are defending a perfect record, against Brighton. At 12:30, we've got the Match of the Day in my mind - Leeds v. Citeh - on NBC. And if you've got anything left in you, there's a late match on Peacock between Newcastle and Burnley. Join me for all the action today, won't you?

A Bit of Deja Vu!

If it seems as if Liverpool and Arsenal were just playing each other a couple of days ago, it's because they were! And at Anfield! Did the Arsenal side just pitch up on Merseyside for a few days? I suppose so. In any case, it's the Carabao tonight, so drop on by for a snack and some footer, eh?
