Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Another Big Tuesday

It's another big Tuesday evening in domestic and European footie. Of course my eyes will be on another winnable outing for my Leeds boys against Reading Railroad at Elland Road. Three points, please, chaps!

Elsewhere, there is a full slate of Champions League action, including United against Young Boys and Lyon v. Citeh.

I'll be in a tedious meeting from 2-4pm but I hope to catch a bit of the second half. Join me if you can.

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 13 Update

Greetings from snowy Fredonia, chaps! I'm here as usual on a Tuesday morning to update you on the goings-on with our humble PPP game. There were a few major changes that led to most of us losing some points this week. First, Chelsea and Spurs swapped places at the top - Spurs are now 3rd and Chelsea in that precious 4th CL spot. With Man Utd still languishing outside the European spots after their listless draw with Palace, we're losing big points there. Southampton have dropped into the bottom three after their loss, while Huddersfield have escaped for the moment. More points lost. And Sevilla are improbably at the top of La Liga - not surprisingly, none of us predicted that, so two more points lost. Fortunately, for at least The Saint and Simon, Arsenal's Aubameyang scored again at the weekend and is now tied with Sergio Aguero at the top of the goalscorer charts.

All that means is that The Saint has unseated Swansong at the top of our standings - here they are:

1. Man Utd Rules - 42 points
2. The Saint - 41 pts
3. Gooner71 - 40 pts
-  Swansong - 40 pts
5. Someone Said - 39 pts
6. Red Devil 1FCK - 38 pts
7. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 37 pts
8. West Ham Rising - 36 pts
9. MOT the Hoople - 34 pts
10. United We Stand - 33 pts
-  Yellows - 33 pts
12. The Bee's Knees - 31 pts
-  Red Dragon - 31 pts
14. Blue Devil - 26 pts

Footie Trivia of the Week

It's been a long time since we've had a good trivia question on the LOB; however, I heard a good one on the 606 podcast last week that I thought I'd run by you.

"Wayne Rooney's appearance for England against the US in last week's friendly has led many England fans to think nostalgically over Roon's career. So, who were the 24 players who joined Wazza in his first England squad for the Euro 2004 tournament?"

Sunday Morning in the Prem Returns

Morning, chaps! We're back at it this morning starting with Bournemouth v. Arsenal. The autumn was great for these two teams. In September and October they played 21 games between them in all competitions, winning 17 and losing only two. Arsenal shook off the early season rust and life seemed super under Unai Emery. Bournemouth continued their extraordinary story from the nether regions of L1 to the top six of the Premiership. So, who's going to enjoy this November weekend more? Join me to find out.

Premier League Saturday is Back!

Morning, chaps - welcome back to Premier League Saturdays. We've endured the last interminable international break of the calendar year and have nothing but the good stuff to enjoy as far as the eye can see. The footer gods gave us a late lie in this morning with only Rotherham v. the Evil Blades in the Championship in the early time slot. But I'm up and at 'em now for the 10am kickoffs, which include West Ham v. Citeh on the box and Man Utd v. Palace on NBC Gold. At the same time, my eyes will be solidly on Elland Road where my beloved Leeds take on Bristol City. Later on, we got the Top Four rivalry of Spurs v. Chelsea. Make yourself a lovely brekkies and join me for all the fun!

Happy Thanksgiving, LOBers!

Happy Thanksgiving, LOBers! I hope that you and yours enjoyed everything down to that last wafer-thin slice of pumpkin pie. Cheers!

England v. Croatia Live!

It's all on the line for England this morning, as the Nation's League action comes to an end. Win at Wembley against their World Cup semi-final rivals and England will compete in some kind of tournament next summer. Lose again and England will suffer the fate of relegation to Group B, whatever that means. Join me for all of the nebulous NL action this morning!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 12 Update

Happy Tuesday, LOBers! I'm checking in with the PPP update before we get into the interminable international break. Not a lot to report this week. Liverpool are back in second, replacing Chelsea in a little game that they'll likely be playing all season. My beloved Leeds have sadly been knocked off the perch and are languishing in third now. And Sergio Aguero is now the sole top goalscorer on 8 goals.

All that means that Swansong is back on top again, with The Saint dropping points due to Aubameyang's lack of goals at the weekend.

Here are the current standings:

1. Swansong - 47 points
2. Gooner71 - 43 pts
-   Red Devil 1FCK - 43 pts
4. MOT the Hoople - 42 pts
-   The Saint - 42 pts
-   West Ham Rising - 42 pts
7. Yellows - 40 pts
8. Man Utd Rules - 39 pts
9. United We Stand - 38 pts
10. The Bee's Knees - 36 pts
-   Someone Said - 36 pts
12. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 34 pts
13. Red Dragon - 33 pts
14. Blue Devil - 29 pts

LAKENHEATH HIGH SCHOOL...on LOB

Hey Everyone,
Some of you might have received these pictures from me already but I thought I would post them on LOB. Here are some pictures of our old stomping ground taken today. The tree to the right in the courtyard was planted in memory of my dad. The plaque is there too.... it was a twig when it was planted in 1984!!

A Rather Big Sunday

Happy Sunday, LOBers! There is a reason that yesterday's matches were a bit rubbish. Yes - all of the decent sides are playing this morning. The big day starts early with Liverpool's match against lowly Fulham. At 9:15am, Chelsea meet Everton at the Bridge. Finally at 11:30, we've got Arsenal v. Wolves and of course, the big one - the Manchester Derby. It doesn't get bigger or better. Join me?

The First Storm of the Season

Greetings from a very snowy Fredonia, lads. We are in the midst of our first big storm of the season. What better to do but to enjoy some good footer on the telly, then. We start rather modestly with Cardiff v. Brighton. Neither side is in great form but Cardiff will be desperate for a win. That's followed at 10am with the usual Premiership and Championship of matches, none of them of particular note. The late ones are Palace v. Spurs and the big one for me, WBA v. Leeds.

Unfortunately, I'll be heading out into the snow for an Open House on campus for the late one. But I'll be warm and cozy until then. Join me?

Election Night Special!

Hiya, LOBers - it's another big election night in the United States. The House, Senate and several governors' houses are up for grabs tonight. I'll be joining a big campus election results watch party over at our student center here at Fredonia tonight and will be chipping in with my usual comments throughout the evening. So, pour yourself a stiff cocktail (we'll likely all need one or two this evening) and join me for a bit of political banter.

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 11 Update

A very happy Tuesday, everyone! I'll be honest. My mind isn't on the footer this morning, because it's Mid-term Election Day (in the U.S., at least). I'll be live blogging that later tonight. But for now, I wanted to update us all on the PPP before we get into the midweek hurly burly today.

So, what's changed in the past week. Chelsea and Liverpool have flipped again; so too Spurs and Arsenal. But the top five seem a bit locked in at this moment. Fulham have slipped back into the bottom three with Cardiff and Huddersfield. Leeds (yes!) are back on top of the Championship, having edged out Norwich on GD on Sunday. If the two automatically promoted sides from the Championship were Leeds and Norwich, no one would be happier than I. Sergio Aguero has joined the top goalscorer club alongside Aubameyang and Hazard, so several of us are now receiving six points there.

That all means that we've got a new league leader, The Saint, who due to Pierre-Emerick's goalscoring exploits, is now top of the pops with a sweet 50 points. Here are our current standings:

1. The Saint - 50 points
2. Red Devil 1FCK - 42 pts
-  Swansong - 42 pts
4. Gooner71 - 41 pts
-  MOT the Hoople - 41 pts
-  Someone Said - 41 pts
-  United We Stand - 41 pts
8. Man Utd Rules - 40 pts
-  Yellows - 40 pts
10. The Bee's Knees - 38 pts
-  What's Up Wheaton Simon - 38 pts
12. West Ham Rising - 37 pts
13. Red Dragon - 36 pts
14. Blue Devil - 27 pts

Supersub quiz

The Beeb website has a good and moderately difficult quiz about supersubs in the EPL. Here's the URL. I got 6, not good enough to be on the bench. Story of my career, really. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/46090195

Hi Gooner...this is UWS. I just edited this a bit so the boys can read right on here.
Here is the picture I sent the boys

Fall Back Footer

Given the extra hour of sleep, I'm rested and refreshed this morning. Last time out, my beloved Leeds recorded a somewhat disappointing home draw against Nottingham Forest and surrendered the top spot as a result. Yesterday's favorable results now give us the chance to seize that top spot again with a win away to Wigan this morning. MOT!

A Rainy Saturday Morning...Perfect for Footie!

A very good Saturday morning, chaps. It's been raining here in WNY for about a week straight now with more rain in the forecast to come. What else is there to do but cozy up in a favorite armchair with a cuppa and some quality football. It all starts at 8:30am EST with ManYoo's visit to Bournemouth. Will Mourinho's side continue to turnaround their season. At 11am, we've got the usual slate of kickoffs. Then there's the big one - Arsenal v. Liverpool from the Emirates at 1:30pm. If you still haven't had enough, theres' a tea time match at 3:45 between Wolves and Spurs.
