Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Matt Gets a Response on Twitter

Matt sent out a tweet yesterday while watching the women's quarterfinal saying "I don't know who I hate more Rob Stone or @AlexiLalas. Alexi saw his tweet and responded saying "Cool!"very snottily. Then Jeremy Schapp an ESPN reporter tweeted at Matt, Rob, and Alexi saying that he disagrees with Matt and loves both of them. Then in response Rob Stone responded by saying "Yeah, so suck it Matt." Lots of other people chimed in. Matt was chuffed!!!

Who Do You Side With?

With the 2016 Presidential campaign in full sway, it's high time that we start the political chin-wagging here at the LOB. Candidates are joining the race every day - Jeb Bush yesterday and The Donald today - so it can be a bit confusing picking among all of those candidates.

I came across a quite clever survey instrument on Facebook yesterday that I thought I would share here. Simply point your browser toward the following website and take the short survey:
http://www.isidewith.com

At the end of the survey, they'll calculate who's ideas are closest to yours. I came up 97% in favor of Bernie Sanders. What say the rest of you?

Otto von Bismarck...Johannes Gutenberg...Angela Merkel...Beethoven....your boys took a hell of a beating today!!!!!

If you didn't have a chance to watch this afternoon's historic match against the World Champions Germany, make sure to catch the highlights tonight on SportsCenter. When was the last time that the US won away to Germany. Uh....never. And this on the heels of an epic 3-4 win against the Dutch only a few days ago. If only the World Cup were happening this summer. Klinsmann's young side is looking mighty impressive right about now.

Why Can't England Break Down Ordinary Teams?

I wisely decided to sleep in this morning after a late drive back from our cousin Jennifer's college graduation party last night and so I missed this morning's 0-0 draw. Here is Football 365's appraisal of England's efforts against Ireland:

"Rotten, rotten stuff in Dublin as England and Ireland played out a goalless friendly that contained around four seconds of genuine excitement. 'This is a lot sh*tter than the Champions League,' said the world in unison as if surprised by an end of season friendly not being as good as a competitive contest between two of the best sides in the world. What did we learn? Sod all, to be honest. Paul Scholes called it 'a waste of an afternoon.'"

My question, then, is why can't England - a team full of fancy dan Premiership millionaires pulling down £100K a week in salaries - tonk ordinary sides like Ireland? Should Wayne Rooney be running rings round the likes of his former teammate John O'Shea?

Your thoughts, gentlemen?

Buh. Bye!

It's official. With federal investigators circling above him, Sepp Blatter has decided he will resign after all. The odious one has stepped down today in an extraordinary, hastily arranged presser in Zurich and has called for a special congress session of FIFA to choose a successor. Let's hope this is the first step for Blatter down the road to the Big House. Watch this space...!

Footie Trivia of the Week!

Alright, lads - the season is winding down, but the trivia can keep rolling. Here's a topical one for this week.

"On Saturday, Arsenal became the fourth club to win consecutive FA Cup titles on more than one occasion - name the other three." (Bonus points if you can list the years they won it!)

Good luck!
