Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Early Morning Leeds Time!

Morning, chaps - I'm up early to follow my beloved Leeds United. The Whites' early season spotty form has been left behind and the new look Farke side is now really cooking with gas. We're following up a terrific 3-0 home win against Watford with a trip to the South Coast to meet Southampton. Another win and I'll drop my skepticism regarding this team. Come on, you Leeds! #MOT!!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 6 Update

Happy Monday, PPPers! I'm here as usual at the start of the workweek to take stock of another whirlwind weekend in domestic and European footie. Six weeks in and Man Citeh have yet to drop points, so they're riding high at the top. Brighton nipped back into the European slots this week with an impressive win, robbing most of us of valuable points. At the bottom, all three newly-promoted sides are languishing, pointing out the huge gulf in quality between the Prem and Championship.

In Europe, Barca have taken over at the top of La Liga, Bayern have assumed top spot and Inter continue to ride high in Serie A. Erling Haaland added yet another goal to his tally, now 8 goals in six matches. James Maddison joined the ranks of Pedro Neto and Mo Salah at the top of the assists chart and Bernd Leno joined Ederson in the most clean sheets (three).

That all means that we have yet another leader this week - Bee's Knees - who shares the honors with Someone Said. Domestic footer has been fairly predictable so far - Citeh and Haaland are smoking it, basically. So, here are the current rankings:

1. Bee's Knees - 44 points

-  Someone Said - 44 pts

3. Blue Devil - 43 pts

-  MOT the Hoople - 43 pts

-  Red Dragon - 43 pts

6. Teddy Goalesevelt - 42 pts

7. Man Utd Rules - 41 pts

8. Gooner71 - 39 pts

-  West Ham Rising - 39 pts

10. oticoN - 38 pts

11. United We Stand - 37 pts

12. Red Devil 1FCK - 25 pts

The Weekend Business

Hiya, LOBers - it's that time again. Actually, a bit later than usual on a Saturday do to no scheduled early matches in the Premier League or Championship. It all starts this morning with the 10am EST matches, including Manchester City v. Forest on USA. I'll have my attention focused on Elland Road where my beloved Leeds are hosting Watford. The Hornets are currently languishing in 14th, so this one needs to be the first home win of the season.

The late one is Brentford v. Everton, with the Toffees desperate for a first win of the season. You know the drill - if you're watching, watch along with me.

Hump Day Test for the Super Whites!

Hiya, chaps - it's a big, big day in the domestic and European footie scene, with matches in the Champions League and in the Championship. The second day of Matchday 1 matches in the CL kicks off this afternoon, with Arsenal hosting PSV and ManYoo enjoying an away day at Bayern.

But my eyes will be firmly on my beloved Leeds United's traveling roadshow pulling up at Hull City this afternoon. It all kicks off at 2:45 on Paramount Plus and ESPN+. If you're watching, drop by for a cuppa and a natter.

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 5 Update

Happy Monday, PPPers - I'm here as usual at the start of the week to update our standings. The domestic leagues were back with a bang this weekend after the first interminable international break of the season. With the drab 1-1 draw between Forest and Burnley this evening, Week 5 came to an end. City won a fifth match on the trot and are thus at the top of the league with Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal all in hot pursuit. At the bottom, Everton, Burnley and Luton are propping things up. PNE continues to rule the root in the Championship with early favorites Leicester right behind. In Europe, Real, Inter and Leverkusen are top of the pops.

Erling Haaland rattled in another goal to top the charts with seven goals from five matches. Pedro Neto and Mo Salah both have four assists and Ederson, Sanchez and Vicario all have a mere two clean sheets. The second yellow card for a silly offense category was settled with Ollie McBurney talking himself into a slightly early bath in the Blades hilarious stoppage time collapse against Spurs.

It all means that we have a new leader this week - Someone Said - who has jumped out to a four point lead with a whopping 47 points. Here are the standings in full:

1. Someone Said - 47 points

2. Teddy Goalesevelt - 43 pts

3. West Ham Rising - 41 pts

4. Blue Devil - 40 pts

5. Gooner71 - 36 pts

-  Man Utd Rules - 36 pts

7. Bee's Knees - 35 pts

-  MOT the Hoople - 35 pts

-  United We Stand - 35 pts

10. oticoN - 34 pts

-  Red Dragon - 34 pts

12. Red Devil 1FCK - 24 pts

The Whites Enter the Lion's Den

In many ways, the season starts today for my beloved Leeds United. Now that the transfer window has ended and the international break has come and gone, Daniel Farke can see what he has to work with. Today's match away to Millwall couldn't be a sterner test. We don't like playing in the capital and there is a lot of history, going back to the Right Said Fred riots of the 90s. It should be fascinating. Come on, you Whites! #MOT!

Wahay - It's Saturday!

We've come to the end of another long international break and here comes the football again! It all starts again with Liverpool pitching up at Molineux to play Wolves on USA early doors. That's followed by the usual 10am fixtures including matches involving both Manchester clubs. Finally, the late one on NBC is Brentford v. Newcastle.

Join me if you're watching.

Euro 2024 Qualifier Saturday

Hiya, chaps - hope you're enjoying a relaxing weekend. Here we are in the middle of the international break for Euro 2024 qualifying. England face Ukraine today, started their campaign brilliantly with four wins on the trot. Another win today and they can surely start planning their travel arrangements for next summer. I probably won't have my full attention on the matches today but I thought I'd start this thread for those of you who want to chip in. Come on, you England!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 4 Update

Happy Labor Day, PPPers - I hope you've enjoyed a relaxing long weekend. I'm back with the usual weekly update on our game standings. It was a right old goalfest in the Premier League this weekend, with three hat-tricks on Saturday alone. Of course, because these were the first hat-tricks of the season, several of you were on the text to me to ask how we were going to sort it all out points-wise. So, here's my ruling on it: based on the premise of the first hat-trick, I've given Son Heung-Min the honors, as his third goal went in at the 66th minute of the 3pm GMT match with Burnley, while Erling Haaland scored his in stoppage time against Fulham. Irish hotshot Evan Ferguson then popped up with another hat-trick in the late kickoff between Brighton and Newcastle. So, just about all of us got 1 point for picking Haaland - sadly, no one plumped for Son.

What else is going on. City are still romping it at the top, with Haaland now on 6 goals from 4 matches. Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal are now in the European slots, so lots of points all-round for those. Even West Ham Rising didn't pick his Hammers to make Europe this season, so a big, fat raspberry for that one. At the bottom, Everton have joined in on the fun, joining Luton and Burnley, so several points for those teams.

At the top of the Championship, plucky old Preston North End are top of the pops - of course, no one picked them. Still plenty of points all round for picks for Leicester, Ipswich and Birmingham. Real are still top of La Liga, Inter have taken top spot in Italy and the crazy Bundesliga season has now tossed up Bayer Leverkusen in the top spot there.

It all means that Teddy is top of the charts for another week, albeit with Someone Said in hot pursuit. Here are the current standings:

1. Teddy Goalesevelt - 42 points

2. Someone Said - 41 pts

3. Blue Devil - 39 pts

4. Gooner71 - 36 pts

-  United We Stand - 36 pts

-  West Ham Rising - 36 pts

7. Bee's Knees - 35 pts

-  Man Utd Rules - 35 pts

9. MOT the Hoople - 34 pts

10. oticoN - 33 pts

11. Red Dragon - 33 pts

12. Red Devil 1FCK - 23 pts

Saturday is Football Day

Morning, chaps! I hope that you've all had a good week and are settling in to enjoy some of the good stuff. It all starts this morning with an early season relegation dogfight between Sheffield United and Everton on USA. During the 10am slot, USA will be showing Chelsea v. Forest, while my eye will be firmly on the Yorkshire Derby in the Championship between my beloved Leeds v. Not a Big Club. The late one on NBC is between the wannabe champion clubs Brighton and Newcastle. Should be fascinating.

Join me if you're around.
