Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I know the Score...

Hey gents -
I am going to shill for the online league I have set up where you pick the scores each week and see how much ESP you have compared to other football fanatics.

Go to this website and register to play.
Once registered - look for Mini league on the left.
The password you need to enter is: FCF27-VXH

Its a web based predictions form - enter the results you expect and the general
gist of the scoring is as follows:

You do your predictions as normal - you get MINUS 10 for each result you get wrong and 10 for each result you get right and you get a few more for getting the right score and the right goal difference etc - read scoring rules for more exact detail.

You also get 2 chips. You put the bank chip on the one result you are most
confident on and it will give you double or triple points if you get the result right. (double if this match involves a currently top 4 team, triple if it does not).

You get an insurance chip too - put that on the result you are least
confident in and if you get the result wrong you get 0 points instead of minus 10.

That's basically it.....
Bob and myself are already in there. May the best Arsenal fan win. :)
Enjoy the season, any questions let me know.

KCRW's Guest DJ Project

KCRW is my favorite radio station these days and the Santa Monica NPR affiliate has a ton of excellent podcasts available for download on iTunes.

I recently came across a new one - the Guest DJ Project. Ever wondered what's on Conan O'Brien's iPod? Wonder no longer. Each episode is about ten to fifteen minutes long, so it's a minimum time investment and is packed with great tunes.

Check it out.

Robbie Earle on WSD

Just a heads-up that former Wimbledon "Crazy Gang" member and current Sky color commentator Robbie Earle was in studio for the full two hours on World Soccer Daily yesterday (Monday, July 21).

You can download the podcast from iTunes.

Enjoy!

Best Names Ever XI

The good lads at WSD had a competition on Tuesday's podcast for the Best World XI, so rather than merely submitting the usual Pele, Maradona, Cruyff list, I thought I'd flip it and submit a starting eleven of the most unintentionally funny footballer names ever. They read out the email and gave me a t-shirt for my efforts. Here it is:

1. David Seaman
2. Rod Fanni
3. Danny Shittu
4. Gottfried Fuchs
5. Simon Cox
6. Dean Windass
7. Nicky Butt
8. Kaka
9. Yuri Zhirkov
10. Paul Dickov
11. Stefan Kuntz

Rush on Colbert!

Rush. The Colbert Report. Tom Sawyer. How can you beat that? Reminds me of the road trip to Wembley Arena in '81 to see the "Moving Pictures" tour. Enjoy!

Not that there's anything wrong with this...

The boys of summer or the actual seven sisters? This photos are actually on the Spurs website...for now. The Guardian made mention of these so they'll probably not be there long.

The Sounds in My Head

I recently came across a cool podcast called "The Sounds in my Head," which - as far as I can tell - is one guy with a huge record collection spinning some cool tunes. You can download each fortnightly podcast from:
http://www.thesoundsinmyhead.com/

or download from iTunes.

The latest edition has some cool mash-up remixes. Enjoy!

Bud Goes to Belgium

Good news for beer lovers everywhere. Anheuser-Busch has been bought by the Belgian firm - InBev. The new owners have claimed that they'll "continue the Budweiser tradition," but let's hope not. Surely the Belgians have something to teach Anheuser-Busch about making decent beer.

Your thoughts, gents?

Up Pompey?

If today's reports are accurate, Crouchy will be having his nachos on the south coast again, this time as a Portsmouth player.

Now, with Kanu, Defoe and Utaka already on board, is it possible that Sir 'Arry's lads might be set for a renaissance?

Footie Trivia of the Week

I'm stuck in the bloody Charlotte airport tonight, so I've got plenty of time for some anoraking. Here's the upshot:

"Which African country has the most players currently playing in the Premiership? Who are those players and what clubs do they play for?"

Go to it, lads!

Happy Birthday, United We Stand!

Many happy returns on your birthday today, Davey-boy! For this day alone, I'll say that Cristiano Ronaldo will remain at Old Trafford next season. Call it a birthday wish.

Any other day of the year, though....

Cheers, mate!

Old Grey Whistle Test

I had an idle moment or two this afternoon, so on a whim, I stuck "Old Grey Whistle Test" into the YouTube search engine. Out popped literally hundreds of choice clips from deep in the show's vaults. They've released some clips on a few DVDs lately but nothing like the wealth on offer on YouTube. You'll find everything from Bowie to Bob Marley to the Jam. Here's my pick - The Specials doing "Message to Rudy" back in the day. Start skanking!

"Nurse will see you now, Skippy."

Good news from the sick-bay for Davey. The Guardian is reporting that Skippy's move from Old Trafford to the Bernebeu may be scuppered by a dodgy-ankle and impending surgery. His attempts to retract his statements if this is true should be priceless.

Gator on World Soccer Daily

Just to let you lot know, I got onto World Soccer Daily yesterday to pick a bone with the boys about their choice of Marcos Senna as Euro 2008's best player. Listen to me run rings round them logically by downloading from iTunes. I'm the first caller and the exchange occurs about thirty minutes in.

The boys on the Guardian podcast have been having fun with this all week. Yes, I'm a 9-year old.

Silly Season

With silly season coming to a close and the transfer window opening this week, it's time for all of us to dream. What gaps do you see in the squads of your favorite clubs? Who are the young talents who will fill those needs and propel your clubs to domestic and European glory?

Since my dreams are rather more modest, I'll let you fans of big boys list your favorite targets first. Berbatov? Drogba? Crouch? Who's on your shopping list?
