Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 10 Update

Hiya, chaps! I thought I'd get a quick PPP update to all of you before we get into the throng of Carabao Cup nonsense tomorrow. Not a lot has changed, to be honest. Citeh on top, Fulham, Newcastle and Huddersfield on the bottom. So what's new? Well, Liverpool and Chelsea swapped places again at the top. Leeds went up to the top and then slipped again to second. But the biggest change this week was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's brace, which put the Arsenal striker on 7 goals level with Eden Hazard. That meant six big points for The Saint and What's up Wheaton Simon, who now lead the pack.

Here are the current standings:

1. The Saint - 44 points
2. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 43 pts
3. Gooner71 - 42 pts
4. Swansong - 40 pts
5. Red Dragon -39 pts
-   West Ham Rising - 39 pts
7. MOT the Hoople - 37 pts
8. Man Utd Rules - 36 pts
-  Yellows - 36 pts
10. The Bee's Knees - 34 pts
11. Someone Said - 33 pts
-  United We Stand - 33 pts

A Late Start to a Saturday

A very good Saturday morning, lads. I decided to have a lie-in through the early morning Championship action. But I'm here for the 10am kickoffs. NBC Sports are favoring us with Liverpool v. Evil Cardiff from Anfield. Later on, Leeds host Forest at Elland Road. Unfortunately, I'll have to leave proceedings around 11am as I've got a lunch with a group of friends at a Thai place about 45 minutes away. Enjoy the morning, chaps!

Midweek Footie Madness!

Afternoon, chaps - I'm trying to carve out some quiet time in the office this afternoon for some footie watching. We've got a solid slate of Champions League and Championship fixtures on tap. Spurs are currently leading PSV 1-2 in Holland while Liverpool play Red Star Belgrade at Anfield in half an hour. My eye will be on Elland Road where my beloved Leeds will take on our local favorites Ipswich Town. The Tractor Boys are in terrible form currently and I hope that we won't give them any mercy tonight. Three points would put us back on top - come on, you Whites! #MOT!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 9 Update

Hiya, folks - I'm checking in as usual on a Tuesday to update our PPP standings before we get thrown into the midweek madness of Champions League and league fixtures. Arsenal's 3-1 win over Leicester brought to a close the ninth round of domestic matches. Man City's 5-0 win has kept them on top again; however, take a look at the top of the table. Only two points now separates City from Spurs in fifth. It couldn't be tighter. The same is true at the bottom, where Fulham have dropped into the relegation zone alongside Huddersfield and Newcastle. In the Championship, Boro and Sheffield United are at the top, while my beloved Leeds have dropped to fourth. Barca, Dortmund and Juve continue at the top of their respective leagues. And Eden Hazard is still on top with 7 goals.

All that means that we've got a new table topper this week - Swansong. Very tight the top of the table, though, so who knows who will be on top next weekend.

Here are the current standings:

1. Swansong - 41 points
2. Gooner71 - 40 pts
-  Man Utd Rules - 40 pts
4. MOT the Hoople - 37 pts
-  The Saint - 37 pts
-  West Ham Rising - 37 pts
-  Yellows - 37 pts
8. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 35 pts
9. Red Dragon - 34 pts
-  United We Stand - 34 pts
11. Someone Said - 33 pts
12. The Bee's Knees - 32 pts
-  Red Devil 1FCK - 32 pts
14. Blue Devil - 27 pts

England Visit Croatia in the Nation's League

Our England boys had an inauspicious start to their Nation's League campaign, with a 0-1 loss to Spain and Wembley, albeit due to a last minute disallowed goal for Danny Welbeck. Let's hope that Gareth Southgate's side can rebound with a solid performance away to World Cup finalists Croatia this evening. Come on, the Three Lions!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 8 Update

Hiya, chaps - my apologies for the delay in updating our standings during an especially busy week this week. As we head into the second international break of the season, Citeh are still top, which means that the pack are all grouped together again and I'm still on the bottom. Huddersfield, Newcastle and Cardiff remain on the bottom. Sadly, my beloved Leeds have been knocked off their perch by Sheffield Utd and WBA in the Championship. Europe has gotten more interesting as Sevilla and Dortmund are on top in Germany, so we're only getting points from Juve in Serie A. Chelski's Eden Hazard is still on top of the goalscorer's chart, now with seven goals from eight matches.

All of that means that Gooner is still top of the pops. Here are the current standings:

1. Gooner71 - 43 points
2. Red Dragon - 39 pts
3. MOT the Hoople - 38 pts
-   United We Stand - 38 pts
5. Swansong - 37 pts
6. West Ham Rising - 36 pts
-   The Saint - 36 pts
8. Man Utd Rules - 35 pts
-   Someone Said - 35 pts
10. The Bee's Knees - 34 pts
11. Red Devil 1FCK - 32 pts
12. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 31 pts
13. Yellows - 30 pts
14. Blue Devil - 22 pts

My big bro Mike has been celebrating their 30th anniversary of their hugely successful album Turn Back the Clock.  Last Friday, they released a 3 CD version of TBTC. A new acoustic version,  a remastered copy of the original and then a set of extended mixes. A vinyl version is also available.

They have had a some radio interviews of late and I thought I would share. Here is a south coast radio show they were on recently. Mike hardly talks(mic wasn't near him) and the numpty called him Mike Nochito!

A very happy Saturday morning, gents. I'm up early doors because my Leeds boys are playing early doors. Brentford come to down and we'll be looking to show them a rough old time at Elland Road. After that appetizer, we've got the usual 10am kickoffs including Spurs hosting woeful Cardiff City. We end with the latest chapter of the Jose Mourinho at United saga. Today, we've got relegation-threatened Newcastle coming to town, so things could get interesting. Join me for all of it, eh?

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 7 Update

A very good Tuesday morning, chaps! I'm here as usual to update our PPP standings. Well, like football, the PPP is a funny old game. What a difference a week makes! Last week, I was sitting on top of the pops. This week, I'm rank bottom, after losing 20 points. Much of that had to do with Liverpool being knocked off their perch by drawing late on at Stamford Bridge and losing their 100% record in the process. So, everyone's pick - Man City - are on top so its 10 points all round. At the bottom, Newcastle, Cardiff and Huddersfield are still mired in the much. In the Championship, my beloved Leeds have been displaced by West Brom after a disappointing draw at the weekend against Sheffield Wednesday. In Europe, Barca and Juve are still on top, while Dortmund have replaced Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga. Eden Hazard, the Premiership play of the month, is on his own at the top of the goalscoring chart, with 6 goals from the first 7 matches.

All this means that the Gooner is tied at the top with Red Dragon.

So, here are the current standings:

1. Gooner71 - 44 points
-   Red Dragon - 44 pts
3. West Ham Rising - 43 pts
4. MOT the Hoople - 41 pts
5. Man Utd Rules - 40 pts
6. Swansong - 39 pts
-   The Bee's Knees - 39 pts
8. The Saint - 38 pts
9. United We Stand - 37 pts
-   Yellows - 37 pts
11. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 36 pts
12. Red Devil 1FCK - 31 pts
13. Someone Said - 30 pts
14. Blue Devil - 21 pts

RIP Geoffrey Hayes

Another of our childhood favorites, Geoffrey Hayes, has died at the age of 76. Geoff, who you'll remember for his distinctive floral print shirts and yellow trousers, was the lead presenter on the kids show Rainbow between 1974-2001. He was also a regular on Z Cars during the 70s.

You can read more about his career here: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2018/oct/01/rainbow-host-geoffrey-hayes-dies-aged-76?CMP=share_btn_fb
