Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 14 Update

Ahoy, chaps - it's Monday evening and time again for a check on our Premiership Plus Predictions Game. Not surprisingly, Leicester City were knocked off their perch after a week on top and Man City are back in charge. This means that MUR, West Ham Rising and Yellows are the beneficiaries of eight additional points this week. Newcastle have also dropped back into the bottom three, so those who tipped Sunderland for the drop have lost three points. Napoli are on top in a very unpredictable Serie A. So, here are the latest standings:

1. Man Utd Rules - 47 points
2. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 36 pts
- Yellows - 36 pts
4. West Ham Rising - 35 pts
5. Swansong - 29 pts
6. The Saint - 26 pts
7. The Red Devil 1FCK - 24 pts
8. Gooner71 - 22 pts
- The Red Dragon - 22 pts
10. Blue Devil - 20 pts
11. Someone Said - 19 pts
12. Chelskilad - 18 pts
13. United We Stand - 15 pts

A Very Early Sunday Morning in the Capital

It's another busy, busy day in the Prem tomorrow, starting insanely early with the intriguing London derby between a resurgent Spurs and a Chelski side still struggling to turn their season around. Later in the morning, we'll be treated to Liverpool v. Swansea and finally Norwich v. Arsenal. Join me for all the crack o' dawn action, won't you?

A Critical Weekend in the Premiership

Morning, chaps! I hope that you all had a lovely Thanksgiving with you and yours. But shake off the turkey coma, because it's time for the Premiership again. It's a big, big weekend in the Prem. We start with a wounded Man City against the Saints at the Etihad. They've lost two on the trot - can the title challengers turn it around today? Then it's the biggie - the most exciting attack in the Prem against the most stingy defense: Leicester v. United. Something's got to give. And there is that small matter of a goal-scoring record on the line.

Meanwhile, I'll also have an eye on Loftus Road where my beloved LUFC will take on QPR today. We could use a hard-battling away draw in the capital today. Join me for all the fun, won't you?

Matchday 5 Wednesday in the Champions League

It's a Manchester Wednesday in the Champions League with United hosting PSV at OT while Citeh are at Juve , who made it to the final last May. It's simple for United . Win and they are through to the knockout stages. Otherwise, they will need to get a result in Germany on the final matchday. Citeh and Juve are already through, but Citeh will be looking for response after being thrashed by Liverpool at the Etihad on Saturday.  Join me for the pre- Thanksgiving action. United are on FS1 and Citeh are on FS2.

Song Exploder!

Just when I thought I couldn't possibly squeeze another podcast into my life, along comes Song Exploder! This little beauty allows musical artists such as Best Coast, Death Cab for Cutie, and The National to discuss the creation of one of their most memorable songs. What I love most about it is the length - 15 minutes and you're done. A bit of chat about the song and then the song itself. Boom!

Check it out on iTunes or your favorite podcast platform.

Are These Two Teams Real Title Contenders?

So, we have a big London derby for our pleasure this morning. Not one of the two big Capital clubs but they want to be. West Ham moving into the Olympic Stadium and Spurs are building a new home as well. Will these two sides become just as big the Arsenal and Chelsea? Can London have FOUR big sides? It's big enough, isn't it? Anyway, that is for the future... what about today? I think Spurs should be considered as Title contenders. Too many draws but only one unlucky loss. West Ham have won at some big places this season but have lost to little uns too. Should be a big one

Brit Week on WTF!

Marc Maron is on a roll with a number of interesting interviews with British cultural figures this week. First up was current Late, Late Show Show host James Corden (aka "Smithy" from those hilarious footie related YouTube clips). Then it was man of many hats Elvis Costello. And then finally it was Harry Potter himself - Daniel Radcliffe. Boom! You can download "WTF" from iTunes, Maron's website or your favorite podcast platform.

Saturday Night Debate Night!

Evening, folks - it's my last night in New Orleans. I've just had perhaps the best crawfish étouffée I've ever had in my life. I could easily be on Bourbon Street around the corner having too many Hurricanes, but instead I'm holed up in my hotel room to follow tonight's Democratic Party debate. That's how important this primary election season is to me. If you're watching tonight, I hope you'll drop by for a natter.

A Friendly European Afternoon

Afternoon, chaps! I'm taking the afternoon off from conference in NOLA to follow this afternoon's proceedings in Europe. The playoffs for France 2016 started yesterday, with Hungary stunning Norway with a 0-1 win away from home, which sets the Magyars up nicely for the second leg. This evening, Ireland take on Bosnia in their first leg.

Meanwhile, I'll be watching a titanic friendly match-up between the current European champs Spain and out unfancied Engerlund side. Join me if you're around and about this afternoon, won't you?

The solemnity of the moment's silence for club mascots.

I thought these were pretty funny. I've often laughed at Talon, the DC United mascot holding his wing over his heart for the singing of the SSB. Enjoy http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/photos/179568/when-football-mascots-observe-the-minutes-silences-photos.html

It's another big European night for the two Manc clubs in the Champions League tonight. United host CSKA Moscow while City travel to Sevilla with the hope of squeezing more than some oranges.

I'll also have my eye on tonight Championship fixtures, especially Leeds' match-up with Evil Cardiff at Elland Road. They're in 9th and we're 19th as I type, so I'll take a point from the off. Join me from 2:45pm onward, won't you?

Rooney... The Man Behind the Goals

Haven't watched it yet but I have heard good things about this BBC documentary on Wazza.
Here is a link to watch the show. Should be an interesting 58 minute watch. Maybe it will make me starting liking him again... well a couple of goals would help too

Enjoy
