Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

US v. Curacao Live!

Greg Berhalter's US men's team have been resurgent in this Gold Cup, winning all three group matches without conceding a goal, including against Panama with several key players rested. Tonight, they face Curacao in the quarterfinals, with the prospect of a semifinal between either Jamaica or Panama on Wednesday night. Join me for all the fun tonight from 8:30 onward.

WWC Quarter Final - England v. Norway

It's quarterfinal time of the 2019 Women's World Cup and England and Norway clash this evening. I'm in the office this afternoon but it's pretty quiet, so I should be able to have a look. Drop on by for a cuppa if you have a chance.

US v. T&T Live!

I'm settling in to watch tonight's Gold Cup action between the US and Trinidad and the Tobagoners. In their Gold Cup opener on Tuesday night, Greg Berhalter's side got off to a winning start with a 4-0 drubbing of Guyana. There is an edge to this match, given that the 1-0 loss to T&T knocked the US out of the last World Cup. Let's hope there is a bit of redemption tonight.

Join me on the LOB if you're around tonight.

US v. Guyana Gold Cup Action

The US Men's footer team begin their Gold Cup campaign tonight. Greg Berhalter's side has been in rotten form, losing a couple in the run-up to this tournament, but surely a home match to Guyana can't pose too many problems, can it? Time to stop the rot!

The match starts at 10pm and it's on FS1. I'll be around for at least the first half of tonight's match, so if you're watching, drop by for a natter, eh?

Sarri Seems to Be the Hardest Word

I couldn't resist an MUR-style pun at the expense of Maurizio Sarri, as news came in that, only weeks after having won the Europa League for Chelski, the Italian supremo is out and heading to Juve. So, who's next at Stamford Bridge? The favorite appears to be none other than Frankie Lamps, who has just brought Derby County up to the promised land.

Your thoughts on this news, gents?

CONCACAF Gold Cup!

If the Nations League, Women's World Cup, Copa America and MLS weren't enough football for you this summer, today sees the start of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. I have to admit that, since I'm delinquent with watching MLS, I've lost track of Greg Berhalter's US team, so I'm looking forward to seeing these guys play. The proceedings begin tonight with the double header featuring Canada and Mexico at the Rose Bowl. The US begin on Tuesday night against Guyana.

You can find the full schedule of matches here:

It Was 37 Years Ago Today....

UWS reminded me this morning that today marks the 37th anniversary of our graduation from Lakenheath High School. I still remember it as if it were yesterday. After the ceremony, we all ended up back at Joel Hunter's house. That moment was documented with this photograph, which remains one of my absolute favorites. Enjoy!

England v. Switzerland Live!

Gareth Southgate's England were out of sorts on Thursday against the Netherlands, especially in the back four. Yet, they would have won had VAR not made an error in judging Jesse Lingard offside. The boys have a chance to put things right today in the Nations League 3rd/4th place match against Switzerland. Come on, England!

England v. Holland Live!

I dutifully served a one-match ban for my insolent chat about the Nations League and am back this afternoon to enjoy the semi-final match-up between our England boys and the Netherlands led by Liverpool man Virgil Van Dyck. Waiting for England on Sunday is a possible final match-up with Skippy and the Portugeezers. Let's hope that the boys can do the business today. Come on, England!

The Summer Transfer Thread

I've officially entered the summer doldrums and am jonesing for some of the good stuff. I might even be tempted to watch a bit of MLS if this keeps up. Yet, I'm keeping my eye on the summer transfer news. Already, we know that Aaron Ramsey is off to Juve. But what other big moves will change things for next season? And what players would you like to flog and which would you like to gain in the summer transfer merry-go-round?

You can keep up with all of the news here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2019/jun/04/football-transfer-window-2019-every-summer-deal-from-europe-top-five-leagues

The European Cup Final!!

So we have come to the end of another club season. The end of the season finishes with an All England European Cup final in Madrid. This is the second all English final following Manchester United's win against Chelsea in 2008. Which team will make their Semi Final Miracle really matter? Who's corner will you all be in? Anti-Liverpool people, Anti-Spurs people.... could they both not win. I just hope none of the English players get hurt before Thursdays Nations League Semi Final.... Let's hope Van Dyke goes off with a gammy leg!!

Sadly, we have to put up with the TNT numpites but the pre-game show does start at 1:30
Join me for the kick off at 3 pm
