Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Another Big Day for England!

Afternoon, chaps! It's another big day in 2022 World Cup qualifying, with our beloved England boys taking on Poland at Wembley. The Poles are likely to be England's great challenge in this group. Fortunately, they'll be without the services of Bayern's Robert Lewandowski, one of the most lethal strikers on the planet, due to injury this evening. England have had a perfect start to qualifying so far, with two wins out of two, seven goals for and no goals conceded. So, another comfortable win today would have them in cruise control. Come on, you Three Lions!

England Continue Their World Cup Quest

England started their Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign with a comfortable 5-0 win over San Marino on Thursday and continue their quest today away to Albania. These are the matches have posed real perils for the big European sides in the past, as dropping points away during the midst of a busy club season as fairly easy. So, I'll take a professional 0-2 win today. Come on, you England boys! Join me for all of the action on the Plus from noon onward.

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 30 Update

Happy Wednesday, everybody! As we shift into the international break for the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers, it's time to take stock of our PPP standings. In all honesty, not a lot has changed in the last two weeks. When I updated the standings last week, there was no point change at all, so I decided against posting the update. This week, Harry Kane has crept back into the Golden Boot race and is now level with Mo Salah on 17 goals, as well as on top of the assists chart with 13. Let's just hope that the England #9 keeps up the dynamite form into the summer tournament season. All that means that Swansong and Red Devil have added six points to their totals and tightened the gap on MOT the Hoople at the top. Here are the current standings: 1. MOT the Hoople - 47 points 2. Swansong - 43 pts 3. Red Devil 1FCK - 42 pts 4. Blue Devil - 37 pts - Red Dragon - 37 pts 6. The Bee’s Knees - 36 pts 7. Teddy Goalsevelt - 31 pts 8. What’s Up Wheaton Simon - 29 pts 9. West Ham Rising - 27 pts 10. Man Utd Rules - 26 pts 11. Gooner71 - 25 pts 12. The Saint - 20 pts 13. United We Stand - 18 pts 14. Anfield Warriors - 17 pts 15. Someone Said - 14 pts 16. Pink Kits - 4 pts

A Bit of the Cup and a Bit of the Prem

Morning, chaps - it's another day of scattered FA Cup Quarterfinals and Premier League matches today. At least there are some decent matches on hand. It starts with the slow burn of Chelsea v. Sheffield United, which is in the first half now. Then we've got a London Derby in the Prem between West Ham and Arsenal. The best match of the day is at 1pm EST with Leicester v. United in the Cup. We wrap up with a late one between Villa and Spurs. I'll be grading during the first one this morning but will join you for the West Ham v. Arsenal and the big Cup match.

FA Cup Quarterfinal Saturday

Morning, chaps! It's an unusual day in the footer world with a mere three fixtures on offer. It starts in a few moments with the Cup clash between Bournemouth v. Soton. Then there is a long gap in the day for the usual untelevised league matches at 10am and noon. At 1:30pm, we've got the match of the day, with Everton v. Citeh meeting in the Cup. Finally at 4pm, there is the sole Premier League match-up on Peacock - a relegation dogfight between Brighton and Newcastle. I'll likely only be around for that match at Goodison at 1:30 but I thought I'd post this early so that any of you can chip in on other matches. Enjoy the day!

Yer wot, ref?

Here's a bit of brilliant officiating. The manager is giving it out to the ref, who stops play to see what's going on. But the manager doesn't speak a language that the ref understands. The translator steps up and repeats what the manager said, and the ref shows the translator the yellow! https://streamable.com/qce86x

Friday Night Cracker!

I've just wrapped up an especially tedious meeting and I'm settling in for this evening's match. My beloved Leeds are away to Fulham this evening. The draw against Chelsea on Saturday morning was a decent result, but we haven't won since the 3-0 at home to Southampton. The Cottagers are fighting for their Premier League lives at this point and we've lost every match in the capital this season, so my patented rubric says a point will do nicely. Come on, you Leeds! #MOT!

Spring Forward on Sunday

I'm getting to the footer late this morning for two reasons: Spring Forward and rubbish matches. Already this morning, Brighton have pulled off a vital 1-2 away win over Soton thanks to Dunk and Trossard and Leicester are currently 1-0 up at half-time over Sheffield United. Later, we've got some good games coming - first, the North London Derby at the Emirates and then third place United hosting fifth place West Ham in perhaps the match of the weekend. Join me for those matches later on, won't you?

Up Early for the Leeds Boys

Hurrah! It's the weekend again. And it starts with a bang today. Leeds v. Chelsea - it's the sort of fixture that I had been dreaming of during all of those years in the hinterlands playing the likes of Doncaster and Yeovil. Of course, we've had a dip in form of late and Chelsea and unbeaten under Tommy Tuchel, so we're likely to get turned over today. But it'll be fun - that's all I have to ask. Come on, you Whites! #MOT!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 28

Happy Hump Day, everyone! With Citeh's demolition of Soton this evening, we're through this round of matches this week, so I thought I'd update all of you about the standings for our humble PPP game. One two big changes this week, with West Ham replacing Everton in that 5th European slot and Harry Kane peeling away from KDB for the assists leader. Both of us were points losers for us, so most of us have dropped in our totals. MOT the Hoople continues to lead the pack, now 10 points ahead of Red Dragon, Swansong and yours truly the Blue Devil. But there are still plenty of points to come as we enter the last ten matches of the season. Here are the current standings: 1. MOT the Hoople - 47 points 2. Blue Devil - 37 pts - Red Dragon - 37 pts - Swansong - 37 pts 5. The Bee’s Knees - 36 pts - Red Devil 1FCK - 36 pts 7. Teddy Goalsevelt - 31 pts 8. What’s Up Wheaton Simon - 29 pts 9. West Ham Rising - 27 pts 10. Man Utd Rules - 26 pts 11. Gooner71 - 25 pts 12. The Saint - 20 pts 13. United We Stand - 18 pts 14. Anfield Warriors - 17 pts 15. Someone Said - 14 pts 16. Pink Kits - 4 pts

Monday Night Footie Special!

It's been ten long days since my beloved Leeds United had a run out in the Premier League. The boys will be looking to bounce back from the narrow defeat at the hands of Aston Villa as we travel to the capital to meet West Ham. While my patented rubric suggests that we should be playing for a draw today, the reality of the matter is that, with 35 points, we're essentially safe this season. So, with the pressure off, we can go out at the City of London Stadium tonight and express ourselves a bit. Some of our long-standing injured players such as Rodrigo should be back in the fold, so I'm hopeful. It's a busy day for me; I've got a boring meeting coming up at 2pm but will be joining in shortly after for as long as I can before my 4:30 class. Come on, you Leeds! #MOT!

21 and Done....Something Has To Give

It's Derby Day in Manchester! Whose streak will end this afternoon? City going for 22 wins in a row. United going for 22 games without defeat away. City must be favorites! Can Liverpool win at home? Can Liverpool SCORE at home.

Early Morning Arsing About

Hiya, boya! I'm up early to watch the Arsenal as they travel to Turf Moor this morning. This is the sort of match that they hate but need to win in order to press their claim for a European spot. I'll be honest, there's not a lot else today that I'm interested in, so I may opt for an afternoon of grading and errands. Join me for this one, though, won't you?

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 27 Update

TGIF, everybody. It's been such a packed week that I haven't had a moment to update our standings until today, but I thought I'd just do that before we get into the hurly burly of another big weekend in the domestic footie world. Another week has flown but but there has been very little shifting. Everton have jumped back up into the European slots (partially because West Ham didn't play in mid-week and thus have a game in hand), which benefited out resident Toffee Someone Said to the tune of five points. And KDB has assumed his usual spot at the top of the Assist chart alongside Harry Kane, adding four points for about half of our cohort. It all means that MOT the Hoople has now extended his lead at the top of our standings. Here they are: 1. MOT the Hoople - 49 points 2. Red Devil 1FCK - 41 pts - Red Dragon - 41 pts 4. Swansong - 38 pts - Teddy Goalsevelt - 38 pts 6. The Bee’s Knees - 36 pts - West Ham Rising - 36 pts - What’s Up Wheaton Simon - 36 pts 9. Blue Devil - 35 pts 10. Man Utd Rules - 30 pts 11. Gooner71 - 28 pts 12. The Saint - 24 pts 13. United We Stand - 20 pts 14. Someone Said - 23 pts 15. Anfield Warriors - 22 pts 16. Pink Kits - 4 pts

A Spot of Mid-week Footer

Afternoon, chaps! I've found myself with a rare free afternoon today, so I thought that I'd drop in on the Palace v. United match. United will be looking for all three points in order to keep up the pressure on their city rivals ahead of the Derby this weekend. If you're around this afternoon, drop by for a cuppa and a chat.
