Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Wake up with Haaland, Go to Bed with Leeds

We've got an extra long day of footer action ahead of us, boys. It all starts with Leicester City hosting Man Citeh and that big scary werewolf Erling Haaland in the early one. Then we get the usual 10am fixtures, including Brighton v. Chelsea and Bournemouth v. Spurs. The late one on NBC is an intriguing clash between two sides who are really doing better than they should - Fulham and Everton. And then finally, the evening offering is Jesse's last stand, as my beloved Leeds enter the lion's den on Anfield. The Reds beat us 6-0 there last season - I'm cringing at the prospect of another hammering.

Let's have some fun, eh?

Must-Win Sunday

It's a must-win Sunday for my beloved. Having only picked up two points from the last six matches, the side and Jesse Marsch is under tremendous pressure today as they line up against Fulham. The goals have dried up of late and are famously generous back four has been overly so. It's time to stop the rot.

At the same time, I'll be hoping that Arsenal do one over on Soton, that Brentford can handle Villa and that Wolves and Leicester can share the points.

Join me to see the latest wrinkle in this season.

At 10am, we've got the usual slate of league fixtures, including Citeh at home to Brighton. Finally, the late one on NBC is marquee match up of the weekend - United vs. Chelsea.

Join me in the morning, eh?

Thursday Afternoon Footie?

My beloved Leeds United have a rare Thursday appointment this evening and, no, it's not in the Europa League. Jesse Marsch's side has been in poor form of late, earning only a paltry two points from the past five matches. However, Leicester have been in even worse form, with the Foxes currently holding up the bottom of the league. So, an away point would seem like the least we can expect today and a first away win of the season would be a real tonic.

Come on, you Leeds - #MOT!

Good evening everyone. There is no change in the top Five in the Premier League, but the Gunners have extended their lead over Citeh to four points after Citeh lost 1-0 at Anfield for their first league defeat of the season. Here are the latest after a weekend of Premier League football , ahead of the midweek matches. It's Dahlgren Derby Time!

Morning, boys! After a dull Saturday with only three goals on the telly, we need some fireworks. It all starts with the Dahlgren Derby at 9am on Peacock. I have to admit that I don't expect much out of this one. Everything about the form of our two teams points to an away win and I'd be more than delighted with a hard-earned point. At the same time,  United are on USA at home to Newcastle. Also Villa play Chelsea.

The late one is the marquee match of the weekend, with the two favored title contenders at the beginning of the season battling it out at Anfield. Liverpool have had a terrible start to the season but a win against Citeh's hot shots would possibly turn it around.

Join me for all the fun.

A Rubbishy Saturday

Let's be honest - today's offerings aren't the best, as the Premier League gods have saved all of the best matches for Sunday. So, what are we left with. The action starts with Leicester v. Palace at 7:30. That's followed by a couple of drab matches at 10am and then Spurs v. Everton. Maybe it's the Covid that's got me down but that's mighty slim pickings.

I may be a bit in and out but I'll look forward to your chat.

Premiership Plus Week 9 Updates

Good evening PPPers and my apologies for the late update. Week ten starts tomorrow. The main change was United replacing the Seagulls in the top five , so now the top five has a more predictable look about it. That added a few points to some people's totals while some  people either lost or gained a point as Forest and the Foxes swapped places at the bottom of the table. There was a little jostling in the Championship playoff places that didn't affect anyone . Otherwise no change . Despite the minor changes some people gained as much as several points or lost as many . As a result, Bees Knees is back top of the pops, a point ahead of last week's leader, Red Devil. Here are the updated standings.

1.Bees Knees- 38 points
2. Red Devil - 37 points
3. Swansong- 33 points
4. UWS- 27 points
    Blue Devil - 27 points
    Red Dragon- 27 points
7. Someone Said - 26 points
8. MUR - 25 points
    MOT - 25 points
10. Gooner- 23 points
11. oticoN- 19 points
12. AZ- 18 points
 13. Teddy Goalesevelt - 17 points
        WHR -17 points

All of Our Favorites on a Sunday

All of the LOB favorites are lined up in a row this Sunday. We get started early with a Leeds road trip to Crystal Palace. It's been a rough few weeks for Jesse Marsch's side, so it's high time that we bounce back. That's followed by the marquee match of the week - Arsenal v. Liverpool. The Reds were expected to be Man City's biggest rivals this season, but Arsenal have proven the pundits wrong with a terrific start. Finally, it's Man Utd away to Frank Lampard's Everton.

The Haaland Show

It's Erling Haaland's world - the rest of us are just living in it. Nineteen goals in 12 matches; 14 goals in the Premier League. Cor! I have to admit that, given I'm not really enjoying watching Jesse Marsch's Leeds side, I've been enjoying watching Citeh just to see what Haaland will do next. It's a bit like watching Fatty Ronaldo or for that matter Cristiano Ronaldo at their prime. You just show up to watch them get to work.

Citeh have Southampton at home today, so you would expect goals. Lots of goals. On Wednesday, Haaland destroyed Copenhagen with two goals in the first fifteen minutes. He would have scored six or seven but for their keeper and then being taken off at half-time. So - how many will he score today. Tune in with me to find out.

Premiership Plus Predictions Week 8 Update

Hello PPPers. Hoping everyone is doing well after the two week international break. Matches resumed this weekend and after one round of Premier League matches and two rounds of Championship matches there were a few changes . Chelsea replaced United in the top five after Graham "Harry " Potter's first match in charge.Wolves have replaced the Hammers in the relegation zone after a 2-0 defeat to the Hammers this weekend, which cost Bruno Lager his job. This will please our resident Hammers fan, WHR, who I'm sure will drink to that.In Europe , Barca is top of La Liga for the first time this season, ahead of rivals Real on goal difference. The Swans moved into the top six in the Championship for the first time this season off three consecutive wins. They replaced the Black Cats , who have drawn their last three matches. Bob will be interested to note that I picked Luis Sinister Sinisterra as the first player to get a second yellow for a silly offense. Not sure if he will be amused about that. Our new leader is the Red Devil, who leads the previous leader, Bees Knees by a solitary point. Here are the latest PPP standings :

Standings:

1.Red Devil- 35 points
2. Bees Knees - 34 points
3. Swansong- 31 points
4. UWS- 28 points
5. MUR - 26 points
6. Blue Devil- 25 points
    MOT - 25 points
    Someone Said- 25 points
9. Red Dragon- 24 points
10. Gooner- 23 points
11. AZ- 18 points
12. oticoN- 14 points
     WHR - 14 points
 14.   Teddy Goalesevelt - 12 points

Eric Idle on Beating Pancreatic Cancer

The Guardian included a really heartwarming interview with Python alum Eric Idle in which he talks candidly about beating pancreatic cancer at the age of 79. Check it out here:

A Tale of Two Uniteds

Morning, chaps! It's a big day for our clubs, after several dormant weeks. We'll wake up for one of the biggest matches of the season - the Manc Derby. Citeh have been on a tear, with Erling Haaland scoring buckets for fun and United starting to turn their season around under Erik Ten Hag's leadership. It should be a tasty amuse bouche for the big one. Leeds haven't played for weeks now, having had two matches postponed and a home match against Villa will be a chance to get our season back on track. Let's hope for big wins for our Uniteds.

The Prem is Back with a Bang

After what seems like an interminably long break, the Premier League is back this weekend ...and with a real bang! We've got two of the biggest derby matches in English football to enjoy this weekend. It starts with the North London Derby, which has added spice as it's first against third right now. Which side will blink? We'll see in the morning. That's followed by the 10am fixtures, including Liverpool v. Brighton on USA. Finally we've got a relegation battle between West Ham and Wolves on NBC at 12:30.

See you in the morning, chaps!
