Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

League Cup 4th Round Live!

It's 4th Round time in the League Cup. My beloved Leeds may not be in the competition any more but there is still plenty of action to enjoy. Coming up at the top of the hour is Chelski v. Arsenal. Now - I don't expect either Arsene or Jose to field a full strength side but it should still be of interest. Join me if you've got the time this afternoon. I'll be around for the first half.

The Tyne Wear Derby Followed by the Clash of the Titans

The action starts today with a Tyne Wear Derby as Sunderland with a mere point host rivals, Newcastle United. This is concluded by Chelsea vs Man Citeh, a match with possible title implications. There are two other Prem matches and a Championship. We should be well rested due to the time change in Europe, so join me for the action if you would.

Finally the late one is Soton v. Fulham. Join me, won't you?

Champions League - Matchday 3 Live

It's Matchday 3 in the Champions League this week and there are some really tasty match-ups. Live on Fox Sports 1 is Barca v. Milan. I'm opting to watch high-flying Arsenal at home to Dortmund, though. It's been thrilling to watch the Gunners in this kind of form. Can they keep it up against the powerful Germans? We'll see next. Join me if you're loafing at work today, gents.

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 8 Update

Another big Premiership weekend has passed us by and it's time to take stock of the PPP rankings again. With the remarkable exception of Premiership Champions ManYoo, the top of the table is looking fairly predictable now, so there are an unprecedented four players on 24 points at the top of heap. But current champion MUR drops one point and five places as a result. Still - he's got Daniel Sturridge firing on all cylinders for him. Here are the current standings:

1. Sporting Real Madrid United Football Club Juniors FC - 24 points
- West Ham Rising - 24 pts
- What's Up Wheaton Simon - 24 pts
- Yellows - 24 pts
5. Man Utd Rules - 23 pts
6. Swanson - 22 pts
- Blue Devil - 22 pts
- United We Stand - 22 pts
9. The Red Dragon - 21 pts

Switzerland gets seeded for Brazil '14, England doesn't. Here's why:

This is a pretty fascinating analysis that explains why the Swiss have England's seeded position for next year's finals. And what should be to no-one's surprise, it's a cock-up by the FA that's to blame. Again. Here's the link. Click it!

Shhhhh! Don't Mention 1973.

It's the last day of the World Cup qualifying round. I'll be on the road to Saratoga Springs for a tedious conference, so I'll miss out on all the action. Still - I thought I'd post this thread so that any of you can chip in about the results today. Come on, you England boys!

LOB Fred-Town Reunion!

As CW McCall would put it, it looks like we got ourselves an LOB Reunion. The fun starts tomorrow when I'll be picking up MUR at the Buffalo Airport. Gooner and Dad will be arriving around 6ish. Then on Friday, the fun really kicks off. The highlight will be the big one between my beloved Blue Devils and the Cortland Red Dragons, featuring Thomas "The Red Dragon" Nocito. Then it's back to the Cottage for World Cup qualifiers, pizza and the best wings on the planet. Saturday, we have a chance of catch up with Someone Said who will be in town for Alumni Weekend. It will be EPIC!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 7 Update

As we approach this international break, it's time again to take stock of our Premiership Plus Predictions Game tallies. Arsenal continue to confound all of our predictions by remaining at the top of the Premiership. Not even Gooner and Simon - are two resident Gunners fans - picked them! MUR is still benefiting from Daniel Sturridge's scoring record (now at 6 goals and counting), but he's joined at the top of the charts by Yellows who soared by 7 points this week. And Bayern have overtaken Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga, giving six of us an extra 4 points this week. Here are the current standings:

1. Man Utd Rules - 25 points
- Yellows - 25 pts
3. United We Stand - 23 pts
4. The Red Dragon - 21 pts
- West Ham Rising - 21 pts
6. Sporting Real Salt Lake United Football Club Juniors FC - 20 pts
7. Blue Devil - 19 pts
- Someone Said - 19 pts
9. Swansong - 18 pts
- What's Up Wheaton Simon - 18 pts
11. Matt - 16 pts
12. Gooner71 - 15 pts
13. Chelskilad - 14 pts
14. The Red Devil FCK1 - 7 pts

It's the Most Wonderful Part of the Week

I'm up early to watch my boy Romalu Lukaku rattle a few goals by Joe Hart this morning, as Everton visit Citeh. At 10am, my Leeds boys are at Derby. Finally, in the late one, United have a must-win against Sunderland. Join me for all the usual LOB fun and games, won't you?

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 6 Update

Sorry for the tardy update this week. It's been a crazy week here in Fred-town as it has been in the Premiership. In any case, who would have predicted that Arsenal would be the in-form side in English football a month ago? Not any of us, that's for sure. We're all losing points due to North London and Merseyside's dominance and Manchester's astonishing drop off. United in the bottom half? Surely, that can't last. Daniel Sturridge is back on top of the scorers' chart, but I'm more excited that Romalu Lukaku - my choice - started against Newcastle on Monday and bagged a brace. He's on three now and gaining on the top shots. Here are the latest standings:

1. Man Utd Rules – 21 points
2. Matt – 20 pts
3. United We Stand – 19 pts
- What’s Up Wheaton Simon – 19 pts
5. The Red Dragon – 17 pts
- Sporting Real Salt Lake United Football Club Juniors FC – 17 pts
7. West Ham Rising – 16 pts
- Yellows – 16 pts
9. Blue Devil – 15 pts
- Someone Said – 15 points
- Swansong – 15 pts
12. Chelskilad – 12 pts
- Gooner71 – 12 pts
14. The Red Devil FCK1 – 11 pts

Champions League - Gameday 2

The second round of the Champions League dominates affairs today, chaps. It's the turn of the London clubs with Arsenal at home to Napoli and Chelski away to Steau. Fox Sports 1 is showing Celtic's match with Barca, while FS2 is showing the Chelski match. I'll be following the Championship matches, and especially Leeds at home to Bournemouth. Hoping we can break the four game losing streak and get one back today. Come on, you Whites! MOT!
