Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 28 Update

Hiya, chaps - it's been a busy midweek period in domestic football, so I thought I'd hold off until today to update our PPP game. We're now through 28 weeks of the Premier League schedule, which leaves us with 10 matches left in the top flight and 12 matches left in the Championship. We also saw the culmination of the League Cup on Sunday, with Citeh triumphing over Chelski on penalties. That gave Blue Devil, MUR and UWS two points for the Chelski loss. No one predicted a Citeh win.

In the Premiership, Liverpool's stonking 5-0 win over Watford has put them back on top by one point over Citeh. Arsenal and United have traded places in 4th and 5th, respectively. Otherwise the top stays the same. At the bottom of the division, Cardiff has slipped back into the drop zone replacing Southampton. Fulham and Huddersfield remain mired.

In the Championship, Norwich and Sheffield Utd are now in the automatic promotion spots, with my beloved Leeds slipping into third. Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero is now out on his own as top goalscorer in the Premier League on 18 goals.

So, here are the current standings:

1. Blue Devil - 43 points
2. Man Utd Rules - 31 pts
3. United We Stand - 28 pts
4. Red Devil 1FCK - 27 pts
-  Swansong - 27 pts
6. The Saint - 26 pts
7. Gooner71 - 23 pts
8. The Bee's Knees - 22 pts
-  MOT the Hoople - 22 pts
-  West Ham Rising - 22 pts
11. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 21 pts
-  Yellows - 21 pts
13. Red Dragon - 18 pts
-  Someone Said - 18 pts

Another Big One for the Leeds Boys!

With 13 matches left to play, every match is a cup tie for my beloved Leeds United. This is an especially important week with three matches in six days. Fortunately, we're on a bit of a run, having beaten the last two including a narrow win over Bolton on Saturday. Also fortunately, we've got QPR today, who've lost their last five. Three points would put us back on top where we belong. Come on, you Leeds boys! #MOT!

The Biggest Match of Any Season

No matter where both teams are in the table, this match is the biggest match of any season. This season, Liverpool are going for the title and United are going for Liverpool not winning the title!
Join me for the big match. At the same time, Arsenal take on the Saints at the Emirates...no TV for Steve again... that SUCKS! After the Premier League matches...Wembley to follow

Panini Cheapskates

Chaps, I've stumbled onto something utterly brilliant. Panini Cheapskates is an ETSY site that market truly badly drawn Panini-style footballer cards. They've been served a wrapping up order from those spoilsports at Panini, so check these out while you can. They are hilarious. https://www.etsy.com/listing/604401182/90s-icons-panini-cheapskates-90s-edition

Saturday on the LOB

A very good Saturday morning, chaps! I'm settling in with a cuppa to enjoy the offerings from across The Pond. First up is Burnley hosting title hopefuls Spurs. Then at 10am, I'll be turning my attention to the Championship and Leeds' match with Notlob on the Plus. Finally at 12:30, it's Leicester v. Palace. The big ones, including the League Cup Final, are all tomorrow, but there is plenty of interest this morning. Join me, won't you?

Sad news tonight of the death of Peter Tork at the age of 77. I grew up loving the Monkees and avidly watching their telly show. I was later dismayed to find out that their members, including Peter, were frustrated by the artificial nature of the group and the lack of opportunity to play their own songs, as the producers brought in the products of the best songwriters in the country. Still - they did have some cracking good tunes, including this one - my favorite. Stick on your favorite and pour one out for Peter tonight, eh?

An Underwhelming Sunday

Kate and I had a late night, so I'm joining affairs a bit late this morning. I can't say that I'm thrilled with the offerings today. What on earth has happened to the FA Cup this season? I'm all for giant killing but this is ridiculous. The policy of the big clubs dismissing the importance of the Cup has meant that only Citeh, who won yesterday, and either Chelsea or United, who play tomorrow, will represent the top six in the quarterfinals. We could easily be heading for a, say Doncaster v. Millwall final, which might well and truly destroy the Cup. Join me if you're interested in watching the likes of Bristol City and Brentford this morning (sigh)....

FA Cup 5th Round Saturday

Morning, chaps! We've reached the 5th Round stage of the FA Cup this season. Sadly, there is no Leeds United gracing the round today, so we don't play at all this weekend due to QPR's commitments. Instead we've got Brighton v. Derby to start us off, Wimbledon v. Millwall in the middle of the morning and finally Newport v. Citeh at the end of the day's action. Interspersed is a light schedule of Championship matches that I'll be eyeballing for their implication on Leeds' fortunes. Join me for the morning, won't you?

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 26 Update

Happy Valentine's Day, all of you LOBers! I'm here with an extra special romantic update of our PPP game. The conspiratorial among you might think that I delayed this update merely in order to ensure that my beloved Leeds United would appear on top of the Championship again. Perhaps, and yet it's also been a busy week. In any case, the biggest change this week has not been in the Championship, but rather in the Premier League (as UWS likes to call it), where Citeh have overtaken Liverpool again, albeit with one more game played than their Scouse rivals). You know what that means - it's all change at the top, with MUR our new league leader with a spectacular 50 points!

The bottom of the Premiership (as I like to call it) is much the same, with Huddersfield all but down, and Southampton and Fulham struggling to survive. In the Championship, Norwich are back down to second, where they belong (apologies to Yellows), with Sheffield Utd, WBA, Bristol City and Boro making up the playoff contenders.

With two hat-tricks in the last week, Sergio Aguero has now joined Mo Salah on 17 goals at the top of the goalscoring chart, so 6 points for those who picked those two.

Here are the current standings:

1. Man Utd Rules - 50 points
2. United We Stand - 47 pts
3. Swansong - 41 pts
4. The Saint - 40 pts
5. West Ham Rising - 39 pts
6. Red Devil 1FCK - 38 pts
-  What's Up Wheaton Simon - 38 pts
8. Yellows - 36 pts
9. Gooner71 - 35 pts
-  Red Dragon - 35 pts
11. The Bee's Knees - 33 pts
12. Someone Said - 29 pts
13. MOT the Hoople - 28 pts
14. Blue Devil - 23 pts

Another Big Night of European and Domestic Footer

It's another big night of Champions League and Championship footer tonight and I'm just out of a faculty meeting and settling to follow it all. We've got Spurs and Dortmund and Ajax and Real in the CL, but more importantly Leeds hosting Swansea in the Championship. With only 15 matches left in the Championship season, every match is a cup tie for us. We'll need maximum points tonight. Come on, you Whites! MOT!

The Champions League Knock Out Rounds Begin!

Afternoon, chaps! It's a big European night in the Champions League with the Knock Out Rounds starting up across the Continent and in the UK. The marquee match is of course at Old Trafford between a rejuvenated Man United under the wise care taking of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer against the moneyed superstars of Paris Saint Germain. Elsewhere, Roma are hosting Porto, but we don't really care about that one, do we? The match is on TNT for some strange reason, but I'll be trying to find it on-line from the office. Join in if you've got the chance. Come on, you Red Devils!

RIP Gordon Banks: 1937-2019

Sad news today of the passing of England's greatest #1 Gordon Banks. Gordon had a long career with several clubs, most notable Stoke City, but his name will always be associated with England's 1966 win and of course his save in the 1970 World Cup match against Pele's Brazil, which is still largely considered the greatest save in football history. RIP Gordon.

A Sunday Morning Treat

A very good Sunday morning, chaps. I hope that you've been enjoying your weekend. I'm settling in to watch two matches that look likely to have a key role in the title race this season. First up, Spurs try to prove that their title-ready against the pesky Leicester City at Wemberley. Then it's the big one for the weekend - Citeh v. Chelski. Citeh will be hoping to retake the league lead from Liverpool while Chelski will be trying to stay in the hunt for the Champions League slots. It couldn't be more delicately poised. Join me for a cuppa and a few hours of the good stuff.

A Premier League Sunday Doubleheader and An Old Farm Derby

It's a Premier League Sunday double header that starts with Spurs vs the Foxes followed by Citeh vs Chelsea where the same two teams meet in the League Cup Final in a fortnight. Citeh will go top of the Prem. Meanwhile , the second half has just kicked off from Carrow Road in the Old Farm Derby where top hosts bottom. Leeds fans will be looking for an upset in that one. It's quite a Sunday morning

A Sight for Sore Eyes

It was a hard slog over at work this week, so this morning couldn't have come sooner for me. I'm looking forward to putting my feet up and watching our favorites teams battle for points. First up - it's Manchester United at Craven Cottage to meet lowly Fulham. Then at 8am, it's the big one. Leeds travel to Boro to put their promotion train back on track after that disastrous defeat at home to Norwich last weekend. At 10am, we've got Liverpool v. Bournemouth and Huddersfield v. Arsenal. Then finally, if that isn't enough, there is a fairly duff one at 12:30 - Brighton v. Burnley. Join me for all the fun, eh?

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 25 Update

Ahoy, PPPers - it's that time again. I'm here on a Tuesday morning to update you all about our humble game. With Liverpool's draw with West Ham yesterday at the London Stadium, Week 25 came to a close. With 13 matches yet to be played, Liverpool is hanging on to its lead at the top by 3 points to City. In the top six, the big news is the resurgence of Man Utd under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, which is a threat to the European slots currently occupied by Arsenal and Chelsea. United have leapfrogged Arsenal into 5th now and have their sites on the 4th Champions League spot.

At the top of the Championship, Leeds sadly succumbed to a disastrous six-point loss to rivals Norwich, who now top the league on goal difference. Sixteen matches to go there. Elsewhere, Mo Salah is still top of the goalscoring charts on 16, despite Sergio Aguero's heroics on Sunday.

Here are the current standings:

1. Blue Devil - 42 points
2. Man Utd Rules - 30 pts
3. Swansong - 28 pts
-  Yellows - 28 pts
5. The Bee's Knees - 27 pts
-  The Saint - 27 pts
7. Someone Said - 26 pts
-  West Ham Rising - 26 pts
9. Red Devil 1FCK - 25 pts
10. Gooner71 - 23 pts
-  MOT the Hoople - 23 pts
12. Red Dragon - 22 pts
-  United We Stand - 22 pts
14. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 21 pts

Premiership Monday Night Football

All eyes are on the City of London Stadium tonight as West Ham host the league leaders. It's another important hurdle in their attempt to win the title for the first time in a generation. I'll be around for at least the first half, so feel free to join in if you're watching.

It's Saturday Again - Hurrah!

It's been a long weekend of frigid temperatures and lots of the white stuff here in Fredonai. So, the weekend is a tonic and I'm looking forward to watching some of the good stuff with you this morning. The best Premiership matches are tomorrow but the big one for me is today. Spurs v. Newcastle and Chelsea v. Hudders are merely a warm up for the one I'm waiting for with baited breath - Leeds v. Norwich, our biggest match of the season so far. Join me for all the action here on the LOB, eh?
