Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Another Big Saturday

Morning, chaps! I hope that you're starting your weekend in the proper fashion. We start with two derby matches of sorts - Brighton v. Palace and my beloved Leeds visiting Hull City. No guesses as to which one I'll be watching.

At the 10 o'clock hour, there are the usual slate of matches, including Bournemouth v. Chelski on the NBC Sports Channel. Finally, we end up the day with Watford v. Liverpool, which will either be another step in Liverpool's trek toward the title or another step toward's Watford's great escape plan.

So, brew yourself a strong cuppa and join me shortish.

The Promotion Race Heats Up!

Happy Hump Day, everyone! It's another big night in the Champions League and, more importantly, the Championship promotion race. The marquee match-up tonight is undoubtedly Pep Guardiola's lot traveling to Spain to meet Real Madrid.

But my eyes will be firmly on the events unspooling at the Riverside where my beloved Leeds United will be taking on Boro. It's another step toward securing automatic promotion to the promised land of the Premier League. We need three points to keep up with West Brom and add some distance between us and the trailing pack. Come on, you Leeds boys! #MOT!

A Big Tuesday Night in Footer World

A very good Tuesday afternoon, chaps! It's a big, big night in footer world. The marquee matches tonight are in the Champions League Round of 16, where Chelski host Bayern in a repeat of the 2012 Champions League final and Napoli host Barca.

Along with those matches, we've got half a slate of big matches in the Championship, including a crucial clash between WBA (1st) and Preston North End (6th). I'll take a draw there, for sure.

Join me if you're around this afternoon.

I've Been There!

I've had my picture taken in front of the United Trinity. What great memories! I remember a guy trying to sell me a scarf right in front Best, Law and Charlton with all the names of the this season's squad. I told him they were rubbish...sadly he agreed with a smile and a nod! Even though they are rubbish, they still have a chance for the top four! It is sad that FOURTH is United's aim but there is something to fight for. Can they beat Watford at home? In past seasons it was a gimme.... this season...I have no idea!
Join me for the early one at Old Trafford and the late one as Everton visits Arsenal. Fellow Europa League foes Wolves host Norwich on Gold

Saturday Morning with a Bang!

A very good Saturday morning, chaps! We start with a bang this weekend with a London Derby between Chelsea and Spurs, with both teams trying to cement their Champions League bona fides for next season. I'll also have my eye on Brentford v. Blackburn, a match with real import in the Championship run-in.

At 10 am, my eye will be firmly on Elland Road, where my beloved Leeds need another big win against Reading today to keep up with the West Broms and the trailing pack. Then we finish with 2nd v. 3rd as Leicester take on Man Citeh at Filbert Street.

Join me for all of the explosive Saturday action, won't you?

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 26 Update

Happy Thursday, PPPers! I'm here as usual to update you on our game. With some 12 matches left in this domestic season, several factors seemed locked in. Liverpool are 22 points up on their nearest rivals Citeh and thus would take an almighty collapse in order to bollix up their title challenge at this point. Call the engravers!

That means that the five of us who chose Liverpool to win the Premier League are the likeliest to walk away with the Shield this season. Part of that picture is the unchanging nature of the league tables. The only element that changed last weekend was Preston North End edging out Bristol City for the last playoff spot. That benefitted Yellows to the tune of 3 points but changed nothing for the rest of us.

Similarly, the European leaders - Bayern, Real and Juve - are unchanged and starting to lock down their leagues. Jamie Vardy and Kevin De Bruyne also continue to lead their various Boot challenges.

So here are the current standings at Week 26:

1. MOT the Hoople - 40 points
2. Swansong - 33 pts
3. West Ham Rising - 32 pts
4. Someone Said - 31 pts
5. Blue Devil - 27 pts
6. Pink Kits - 21 pts
-   The Bee's Knees - 21 pts
8. Man Utd Rules - 20 pts
9. Yellows - 19 pts
10. United We Stand - 17 pts
11. The Saint - 16 pts
-   What's Up Wheaton Simon - 16 pts
13. Red Dragon - 15 pts
-   Red Devil 1FCK - 15 pts
15. Gooner71 - 12 pts

It's All About the Championship

It's all about the Championship again this weekend, as the majority of fancy pants Premiership players are still in Majorca and Tenerife on their "winter break." Sure there are a couple of top division matches this morning but the real action is in the second division. The action starts in a moment with a top of the table clash between WBA and Forest. Then at 10am, I'll turn my attention toward Elland Road and our key clash against Bristol City.

Join me for all of the Championship action this morning.

Citeh Banned from Europe!

Big news out of Blighty this afternoon! Our favorite Emirati-backed fancy boys Man Citeh have been banned from the Champions League for the next two seasons by Uefa and fined a whopping £3- million after they were found to have seriously misled European football's governing body and broken financial fair play rules.

You can read the full account in the Guardian here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/feb/14/manchester-city-banned-from-champions-league-two-seasons-ffp-uefa

High Fidelity on Hulu!

I've resisted the temptation to subscribe to Hulu up to this point, getting Hulu shows such as "The Handmaid's Tale" on DVD from my library system. But a series based on Nick Hornby's High Fidelity, probably my favorite novel, is not only up my alley, it's walking up my path, knocking on my front door and peering through my mail flap to see if I'm home, as Hornby once put it Color me excited!

A Big Tuesday Evening in the Championship

Winter Break, be damned! There is a full slate of Championship matches to enjoy tonight. Let's be honest - it's been a rotten 2020 so far for my beloved Leeds United, who have only won two of the last nine matches, after a remarkable run of seven consecutive wins in November and December. Our buffer with the trailing pack has, thus, evaporated, leaving us in a perilous situation as we go into tonight's big match with Brentford. Another loss would mean Brentford (and likely a couple of other sides leapfrogging us. So, we'll have to pick ourselves up and fight for all three points. Come on, you Leeds boys! #MOT!

Wait? What Winter Break?!

Apparently, there is some kind of "Winter Break" going on in the Premier League? When did that happen? So, the matches in the top division are rather thin on the ground this weekend. Fortunately, there is a full slate of Championship matches happening (no Winter Break there, ha!), including a crucial one for my beloved Leeds United who travel to Forest at 12:30pm EST.

Before then, the Premiership undercard is Everton v. Palace at 7:30am. Join me for all the action today.

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 25 Update

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I'm here as usual to update us all on our standings in the PPP game. Only a few slight changes in the tables to report this week. Spurs have slipped into that fifth European slot ahead of Man United at the top of the table. At the bottom, West Ham have dropped into the relegation zone with Bournemouth just above them. In the Championship, my beloved Leeds have sadly dropped into second place due to that stupid loss to Wigan on Saturday. And in Europe, Bayern have now assumed their usual place at the top of the Bundesliga, ahead of Leipzig.

That all means that our current title holder MOT the Hoople remains on top of the league, with the others who also chose Liverpool for the title in hot pursuit.

Here are the current standings:

1. MOT the Hoople - 40 points
2. Swansong - 33 pts
3. West Ham Rising - 32 pts
4. Someone Said - 31 pts
5. Blue Devil - 27 pts
6. Pink Kits - 21 pts
-  The Bee's Knees - 21 pts
8. Man Utd Rules - 20 pts
9. United We Stand - 17 pts
10. The Saint - 16 pts
-   What's Up Wheaton Simon - 16 pts
-   Yellows - 16 pts
13. Red Dragon - 15 pts
-   Red Devil 1FCK - 15 pts
15. Gooner71 - 12 pts

When It's Snowing Outside, There's Football on Inside

I've woken up to a foot of snow that dropped on Fred-town overnight. I'll certainly be digging later on today, but for now I'm hiding inside and watching the footer. What's on store? First up is Burnley's trip to Arsenal. Later on we've got Mourinho's Spurs against Pep's Citeh. Join me for all the fun, eh?
