Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

A Huge Match at Carrow Road

Morning, boys! There is no way to sugar coat this one. My beloved Leeds United travel to our old stomping grounds at Carrow Road this afternoon for a relegation six-pointer. Norwich have yet to win a match and have only scored two goals. Ordinarily, you'd think that this was an easy win for us. But we've only won one match against lowly Watford and haven't seen a return of the freewheeling form that lit up the Premier League last season. My patented rubric says this is a must-win for us. Come on, you Leeds! #MOT!

Another Fascinating Day in the Prem

Morning, chaps! I'm up early for the Arse, who are on the road this lunchtime against the Foxes. The winner will move into fifth in the league. That's followed by the usual 10am fixtures, including Man City v. Palace on NBC Sports. We wrap up the day with the marquee fixture of the weekend - Spurs hosting Man Utd.

Join me for all the fun and games, won't you?

Dahlgren Derby Time!

It's League Cup 4th Round time and the footie gods have tossed up a Dahlgren Derby with my beloved Leeds United traveling to Steve's Arsenal. Truth be told, the Carabao is a bit of a luxury for us, with our current league situation. So, I'm just hoping, regardless of the outcome, that we give our Academy kids a good run out and that neither sides picks up any injuries.

I'll be teaching throughout the afternoon, so I'll be in and out, but I thought I'd post this thread so that those of you who can watch on ESPN+, can chip in your comments.

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 9 Update

Happy Monday, everyone - I'm here a bit earlier than usual this week to update our standings before we jump into the League Cup Fourth Round action tomorrow. I can't pretend that much changed over the weekend - it didn't. Chelsea are still top and Norwich are still bottom, largely because of the ritual thumping that the Blues handed out Saturday morning. Bournemouth have now been joined by Fulham at the top of the Championship (apologies to Yellows).

In Europe, it's the same three - Bayern and their upstart cousins Real Sociedad and Napoli - at the top of their respective leagues. Mo Salah added three more goals to his tally thanks to a generous Man Utd defense (apologies to MUR, Red Dragon and UWS) and now sits at 10 goals from 9. Paul Pogba still leads the assist column and Ederson has now been joined again by Alisson and Mendy on 5 clean sheets on the season.

It all means that our friend MOT the Hoople continues to lead our chart. Here it is:

1. MOT the Hoople - 46 points

2. Red Dragon - 34 pts

3. West Ham Rising - 33 pts

4. The Bee's Knees - 32 pts

5. Swansong - 27 pts

6. The Saint - 26 pts

7. United We Stand - 25 pts

8. Man Utd Rules - 24 pts

-  Teddy Goalesvelt - 24 pts

10. Red Devil 1FCK - 22 pts

11. Blue Devil - 21 pts

-  Gooner71 - 21 pts

13. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 18 pts

14. Pink Kits - 16 pts

15. Someone Said - 15 pts

16. Yellows - 9 pts

Sunday's Best

Hiya, boys - I'm up a bit late this morning, so I'm joining proceedings a bit late. West Ham and Spurs are currently playing out a sterile 0-0 London Derby in the second half. But I'm hoping for rather better from the big one later one. Man Utd. v. Liverpool - it's still the biggest fixture in the footie calendar by my estimation. And with both sides legitimate title contenders this season, it's got massive stakes.

Join me for the thrills and spills, won't you?

Saturday Once More

Morning, boys! It's that time again. The time that we gather here to chat about the good stuff at the end of a busy workweek. First up today is Chelsea v. Norwich. My patented rubric says that this one needs to be a firing squad for the Blues - I want double-figures against the Canaries. Then we've got my beloved Leeds on the channel for the first time in weeks in a crucial one against Wolves at Elland Road. We finish with Brighton v. Man City. Another ritual slaughter there, please.

Join me for all of the fun and goals, eh?

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 8 Update

A very happy Tuesday, everyone. It's been several weeks since I updated our standings, due to the international break, so it's high time for a check-in. This weekend was a poor one for most of us, with significant points loss across the board. That's mainly because of the presence of Brighton and Spurs in the top four, at the sacrifice of Man Utd, as well as Real Sociedad landing on top of La Liga and some other bits and pieces. Otherwise, we're much the same, with Chelsea still on top, Burnley, Newcastle and Norwich on the bottom and Bournemouth and WBA on top of the Championship. Mo Salah and Jamie Vardy both scored adding to their goal haul now at 7 from 8 matches.

That all means that MOT the Hoople sits on top of our league. Here it is in full:

1. MOT the Hoople - 47 points

2. West Ham Rising - 38 pts

3. Red Dragon - 33 pts

4. The Bee's Knees - 31 pts

5. Man Utd Rules - 25 pts

-  Swansong - 25 pts

7. United We Stand - 24 pts

8. Red Devil 1FCK - 22 pts

-  Teddy Goalesevelt - 22 pts

10.  Gooner71 - 21 pts

-  The Saint - 21 pts

12. Pink Kits - 19 pts

13. Someone Said - 16 pts

14. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 15 pts

15. Blue Devil - 14 pts

16. Yellows - 9 pts

Sunday in the Prem

It's a real pleasure having the Premiership back after the interminable international break. This morning, we kick off with Everton v. West Ham. Then we wrap up with perhaps the match of the weekend, Stevie Bruce's Newcastle, which just announced new Saudi ownership against a faltering Spurs side. Something's going to have to give and it will be fascinating to watch it play out. Join me?

It's a Peacock Kind of Morning

I'm arriving a bit late in my easy chair this morning after a late night. I noticed that the early morning match between Watford and Liverpool was on The Cock, so I decided to have a wee lie-in. But I can't wait for the 10am matches, which include the Brummie Derby between Villa and Wolves on the NBC Sports channel, United away to Leicester on USA and my beloved Leeds away to The Saints on The Cock.

Join me for all the fun, won't you?

Anyone around to watch the match today? I'm here and so's Dave. C'mon England!!!

England Away in Andorra

Gareth Southgate's England team have a lovely away day in the Pyrenees this evening for a World Cup qualifier against Andorra. England have had a strong start to their Qatar 2022 qualifying campaign, with five wins a draw, and sit on top of Group I with 16 points, four points ahead of their nearest rival Albania. Fans will expect a fairly easy outing and some, but that will largely depend on the way that Southgate sets up his team. It's time release the hounds, Gareth. Come on, England!

Join me for the match from 2:45 onward on ESPN+

Newcastle United's Saudi Take-over

The big news out of Blighty today was of the end of Mike Ashley's 14-year rule at Newcastle, who have been bought by a Saudi consortium. The Toon Army celebrated outside St. James' Park today, no doubt hoping that the move will have the same impact on the club that the Emirati takeover of Citeh and the Roman Abramovich ownership of Chelsea have had on those clubs. But is it a good move for English clubs?

Your thoughts, gents?

Premiership Plus Predictions Game - Week 7 Update

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I'm here as usual to update our PPP standings after the wild and wooly seventh round of Premier League matches this past weekend. With Liverpool and Citeh dropping points against each other in that super Sunday match, Chelsea romped over Southampton to the top of the league again, helping the Blues backers in our game to top the standings. At the bottom, my beloved Leeds United finally got its season started with a win against Watford dropping Newcastle back into the mire alongside Burnley and Norwich.

In the Championship, Bournemouth and WBA lead the way, with a random group of chasers behind them i the playoff spots. In Europe, perennial favorites Real and Bayern lead their leagues alongside Napoli at the top of Serie A. Mo Salah and Jamie Vardy scored again at the weekend and are now alone together at the top of the Golden Boot chart, with Paul Pogba and Ederson joining them in the superlative contests.

So here are the current standings:

1. MOT the Hoople - 53 points

2. West Ham Rising - 44 pts

3. Red Dragon - 40 pts

4. Man Utd Rules - 32 pts

5. The Bee's Knees - 31 pts

-  Swansong - 31 pts

7. Gooner71 - 27 pts

-  The Saint - 27 pts

-  Teddy Goalsevelt - 27 pts

10. United We Stand - 25 pts

11. Red Devil 1FCK - 24 pts

12. What's Up Wheaton Simon - 23 pts

13. Someone Said - 22 pts

14. Pink Kits - 21 pts

15. Yellows - 20 pts

16. Blue Devil - 14 pts

Another Sunday Big 'Un

Happy Sunday morning, everyone! I'm settling in to watch some of the good stuff. We start with the undercard match of Palace v. Leicester, where I'll take a Foxes win thank you very much. That leads us to the marquee match of the weekend - Liverpool v. City. Both sides are in good form and pressing for a title bid, so it should be a real cracker. Join me to see if it is, won't you?

Super Saturday!

Morning, chaps! It's that time again. I'm settling in to enjoy Manchester United v. Everton, which promises a lot. Both sides are in decent form this season, so it should be quite a contest. Of course, I'll be hoping for a solid United win as Everton are closer to rivals for my beloved Leeds. And speaking of which, the 10am hour brings up an absolute must-win for the Whites. We've had a rocky start to the season, with a lot of unwinnable fixtures. But starting today, we've got a string of matches that should bring us some points. Come on, you Uniteds!
