Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

MLS Fantasy League

MLS kicks off its 11th season tomorrow with a tasty double header on FSC. In an effort to take more an interest in the league this year, I've picked a fantasy side on the ESPN Soccernet site. Usual rules - pick fifteen plays for a limit of $100 million. You can get started here:

The Duck's a Bit Special - Volume 2

In case you missed it, here's the wonder boy Pato's wonder goal from yesterday's friendly vs. Sweden, along with some cool Brazilian commentary. If this kid stays fit, he's going to be something very special.

A Day of Friendly Footie

Goldenballs is expected to earn his 100th cap for England today against France on a day chock full of international friendlies. FSC is favoring us with the U.S. vs. Poland at 3:30 and Brazil vs. Sweden at 5:30. Join me for the afternoon.

Shattered Dreams

In honor of the reunion tour of our favorite 80s pop group, here's another peek at the fab UK video for "Shattered Dreams." For my money there's a bit too much of the poseur lead singer and not enough of the guitarist, but it's still a classic. Enjoy!

Paul Jewell Scores Away from Home...!

Derby County - not so much. Yes, in what must be the least appealing sex tape ever, feckless Derby manager Paul Jewell has been caught stepping out on the missus. Cut and paste the link below for the kind of coverage that only the News of the Screws can produce:

A Pivotal Day!!!

Will these two matches fizzle out and become damp squids or will they be crackers!!
Please join me on this Easter Sunday treat.

Dave

Not so Super Saturday?

If tomorrow is Super Duper Sunday, with the big boys playing each other, then what does that make today? Perhaps a day of some fascinating relegation battles - Newcastle vs. Fulham is the one to watch, surely - and more promotion drama from the lower divisions. Join me for all the action.

Dave's Idol Twin Butchers the Beatles!

This week, Dave's American Idol doppelganger took on Macca's immortal "Michelle." Is nothing sacred? Enjoy!

The Special One on WSD Tomorrow!

The boys on the Fox Football Fone-in have been hinting rather broadly that Jose Mourinho will be interviewed in the second hour of tomorrow's World Soccer Daily. If you have access to Sirius, you can tune in live from 2 p.m. EST. If not, you download the podcast from 3 p.m. onward. Should be a corker of an interview!

Champions League Draw

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Friday's Champions League draw on the LOB. Here it is:

Arsenal vs Liverpool
Fenerbahce vs Chelsea
Schalke vs Barcelona
Roma vs Manchester United

Premiership Saturday

How many goals will ManYoo put by Derby? How many yellow cards will the Reading cloggers pick up trying to kick Torres and Gerrard? Can the Hammers avoid another four goal thumping? Can Leeds pick up some pace on their playoff rivals? All these and plenty other questions will answered next. I look forward to the pleasure of your company.

Mancini Out - Mourinho In?

In the aftermath of Inter's humiliating exit at the hands of Liverpool at the San Siro on Tuesday, the Internazionale board have voted, and Mancini cannot be made into the next American Idol, sorry, he's out of a job. At least, he will be at the end of season.

That's sorted then, but who will replace him? Jose Mourinho is tanned, rested and seemingly champing at the bit to slip into the front office in Milan. Your thoughts?

Our Dave's Dreadlocked Love Child?

Meet Jason Castro - one of this season's finalists on American Idol and...Nocito lookalike? You make the call.

(Kudos to Sir Trev for spotting the likeness!)

Fiorentina vs. Everton Live!

The English sides have it all to do today in the UEFA Cup, as Spurs travel to Holland to overturn a 0-1 deficit to PSV. FSC is favoring us with Everton vs. Fiorentina. David Moyes's side are 2-0 down from the first leg and will need some early goals to settle the nerves.

Can they get the Italian Job done? Join me to find out.

Footie Trivia Question of the Week

It's been far too long since we had one of these tasty trivia morsels on the LOB, but I think I've got a cracking one for this week:

When was the last time that the FA Cup final did not feature a team from London, Liverpool or Manchester? Who were the sides involved? What was the score?

Good luck, lads?

FA Cup Semi Final Draw

Whyoming?

In an ordinary election year, the three Democrats who happen to be unlucky enough to be living in Wyoming - presumably they're the Comparative Literature department at UW - don't get much of a look-in when it comes to the nomination. But this ain't your ordinary election year, so all eyes will be on Casper tonight in what the hacks at MSNBC will no doubt dub the "Brokeback Primary." (sigh)

FA Cup and Such

With all of the other crucial matches in the various leagues, it's tempting to forget that there are two FA Cup quarter finals. As I write, United are 0-0 with Pompey at half time, while Chelski take on Barnsley on FSC at 12:30. Meanwhile, I'll have my eyes on the Leeds as we try to win another for Macca against lowly Bournemouth. Should be a good day of footer. Join me?

UEFA Cup 5th Round Live!

I missed out on the Champions League action this week so I'm thoroughly looking forward to tucking into a bit of UEFA Cup stuff this afternoon. Our friends at FSC have favored us with Spurs vs. PSV live from Shite Fart Lane, so join me if you're around this afternoon.

The Best Own Goal Ever

There were some cracking own goals this weekend - Jaskalainen bobbling one into his own net, Senderos tucking in neatly at the near post - but for my money, none beats this classic Chris Brass strike. You will piss yourself laughing...guaranteed.

Soccer Saturday

I am here to follow the footer as usual. I wonder if Canada Boy will be able to join us.
Hope for some company!!
