Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Champions League Gameday 2

Blimey, that was quick! The Champions League has rolled around again and Gameday 2 starts today with half of the groups in action. I'll be paying particular attention to see if Arsenal can bounce back from the weekend defeat in their clash with Porto.

Join me for all the action starting around about 2:45 EST.

LOB Book Club

A couple of months ago I mentioned the idea of reading Chuck Culpepper's new book Bloody Confused and commenting on it on the blog. Well, now's the time, I reckon. If you haven't got a copy yet, grab one this week. I'll post some comments on Chapter 1 next week.

Happy reading!

Presidential Debate #1 Live!

Well, Johnny Mac has decided to show up after all, so I suppose we do have a debate on offer tonight. I'm having a few friends over, the drinks are on ice and I hope you'll join me to on the LOB tonight for a bit of political chat.

Drew Carey on WSD!

Don't miss yesterday's lengthy interview with Drew Carey, part-owner of the Seattle Sounders MLS franchise, on World Soccer Daily. The guy actually knows his footie.

What if Sarah Palin were your mother...?

Many of you will already know that Sarah Palin's kids are named Track, Bristol, Piper, Willow and Trig. Well, what if you had been one of her kids?

Cut and paste the following link into your brower to find out what you name would have been:

Carling Cup Third Round Live!

The Carling Cup may be the most underappreciated in English footie but it resumes today with the big boys joining the fray and with some tasty encounters, none more interesting to me than the Leeds boys taking on Hartlepool at home.

Join me on the blog and in cyberspace for the coverage.

If you haven't registered to vote yet, do it today. Hurry! Run!

Soccer AM

I'm up early, looking forward to an overflowing day of footie. First up - Carlisle hosting Leeds in a top of the table Division 1 match. Then it's the Northeast derby and on to the regularly scheduled matches. FSC are showing the Hammers followed by the Gunners. Should be a good one today. Hope to find you here.

A Joke for the Gooners

Here's a wee joke to brighten up the day of all you Gooners:

Q: What's the difference between Spurs and a toothpick?

Gazza Arrested...Again!

Poor old Gaz. Only months after having been sectioned for a bizarre car-jacking incident, former England star Paul Gascoigne has been arrested again under bizarre circumstances. As you'll read in the following article from the Guardian, Gaz was arrested after pounding on a pub door after hours, presumably desperate for a pint. Can no one take care of this geezer?

Gameday 1 Continued...

Europe's champions start their quest to retain their trophy today as they host Villareal at Old Trafford. Meanwhile Arsenal travel to the Ukraine to take on Dynamo Kiev.

Follow all the action with me today.

Champions League - Gameday 1!

It's that time again. The Champions League kicks off this afternoon. ESPN2 is treating us to Chelsea vs. Bordeaux while the Internet is treating us all to, well, all of the other matches. I've chosen Marseille vs. Liverpool. So just how many CL matches can I watch at the same time? Let's find out. Join me for all of the bewildering action.

The Wrong Palin?

Sarah Palin is stirring the passions of hockey moms across the nation, but something tells me that the wrong Palin has been nominated. Enjoy!

Footie Trivia Question of the Week

Let's start the week right with a topical brain teaser:

"Which Premiership club has had the largest number of managers in the history of the league? How many is that? Name as many of them as you can!"

Good luck, lads!

Premiership Saturday

It's a brand new world, lads. The magic website is allowing me and a gaggle of Nocitos to watch Berba make his first down-payment on his signing fee with a lovely pass to Tevez. It really is all on live this morning, so there's no reason not to join in. See you in the new virtual world.

Zola In at Upton Park

West Ham United announced this morning that the new boss at Upton Park will be...Gianfranco Zola!

Zola's got no managerial experience and is best known in the UK for his association with another, more fashionable club, in London.

So, what say you, Sir Trev - good choice or more misery for the Happy Hammers?

Croatia vs. England Live!

England will need a bit of the bulldog spirit today as they face their toughest group opponent in Zagreb. I think we would all take a point from tonight's match and call it a success. Let's hope Don Fabio has a plan for that.

I'm all set up with the live stream and watching the Macedonia-Ireland match ahead of the big one. Join me for all the action live from 3 p.m.

Kicking It

Fire up those DVRs tonight at 9 as ESPN2 shows a new documentary about six homeless men making their way to South Africa to play in the Homeless World Cup. It's narrated by that Irish rogue Colin Farrell.

Welcome to Liverpool!

Robbie Keane has had a rude introduction to life in Scouse-land. He hasn't even settled on a house yet and his rented penthouse has been burgled. Well, at least his teammates can provide him with a support group.

Send your condolences to Robbie here...

A Tribute to Davey-Boy

Just in case we haven't heaped enough praise on Dave for pulling what might be the greatest website on the planet out of his bum, here's another shout out. Well done, lad - you're so unbelievable!

Saturday, September 06, 2008

The Road to South Africa

It all starts here today and with the help of Dave's new website, we're all watching it live.

Of course, it's a bit of a hiding to nothing. An 8-0 win for England will be marked down to the poor quality of the opposition and a 1-0 win will put more pressure on Capello and his boys.

Join me for all the build-up and the action from Andorra.

The Whole World Isn't Watching...

I'm trying not to be offended this morning that Division 1 hasn't gone on international break. What? Jonathan Howson isn't in Don Fabio's reckoning? Yeovil Town and Peterborough don't have decent alternatives to Gareth Barry in the holding role or for David Bentley running down the right? Sheer, bloody prejudice, that is.

Ah well, my boys are at home to Crewe. I'll be paying attention, even if no one else is. (sigh)

BoHeMan Rhapsody

Not footie, but funny nonetheless.

Mike Ashley Drowning His Sorrows

Simon reminded me that I'd wanted to post the vid of Newcastle boss Mike Ashley enjoying a pint during last weekend's thrashing at the Emirates. Get it down yer neck, my son!

Wednesday, September 03, 2008

...And Curbs is on his bike too!

What on earth is going on in the Premiership these days. Suddenly Citeh have more money than Croesus and all the other managers are taking a look at the new landscape and saying - "I'm off!"

Curbishley was apparently livid that Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney were sold without his nod at the 11th hour.

Comments?

King Kev Walks?

News out of Blighty today seem to suggest that Kevin Keegan has seen quite enough of Newcastle after that 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal at the weekend and has walked out on the club. Newcastle have issued a statement that they have not sacked King Kev but that doesn't preclude his having thrown the toys out of the pram now, does it?

Your thoughts?
