Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Saturday Pick-Me-Up

I'm feeling a wee bit under the weather this morning, but a full slate of the footer should be just what the doctor ordered. Avram Grant has promised to stick five up front in order to emulate Ossie Ardiles's Spurs team of the 90s. With Fulham both scoring and leaking goal, it should be a real shoot-out. That's followed by ManYoo, still smarting from that League Cup exit, at St. Andrew's. And, of course, I'll have a keen eye on my Leeds boys, trying to make it eight out of eight today. Join me?

Take Them Points and Shove It...

... we don't need 'em anyway!!!!

So, Leeds have failed to get any of the points back through appeal. Shove it right back in their faces United!!!! WIN THE LOT!!!!

The Democrats Debate...Again!

Yes, I know. They've already debated two hundred and forty eight times, but tonight it's on MSNBC at 9 with Tim Russert hosting, so if you're about, I'm curious to hear your comments on the debate and the campaign in general.

Carling Cup Third Round!

It's Carling Cup time again. I missed out on the action yesterday when the Arsenal kids topped an Owen-less Newcastle and Fernando Torres proved a point by notching a hat-trick. Today, we've got ManYoo hosting Coventry and real, potential banana skin as Chelsea travel to Hull. That plus a couple of all-Premiership matches adds up to an exciting afternoon of the "beautiful game." I'll be around for it - will you?

Footie Trivia Question of the Week

Here's a particularly tricky one for you this week:

"Name the five Premiership managers who have played on the same side as David Beckham."

Good luck, lads.

ManYoo vs. Chelski Live!

It's the big one. Will Chelski fall into a slump in the wake of "The Special One's departure? Will ManYoo solve its scoring problem? All answers will be answered next. Join me!

Saturday Blowout!

It's that time again and I'm looking forward to a cracking day of the footie. First up - Arsenal vs. lowly Derby, and I want a cricket score. The Gunners have been in spectacular form so far this season, so we should see some goals hitting the net.

Of course, I'll also be checking on my Leeds boys, away to Swansea today. Come on you Whites!

MLS Mullet of the Season

Meet Juan Toja of F.C. Dallas - living proof that the gods of metal are still alive and well in South America. One look at this dude and you can picture him cranking the Sepultura up to eleven back at the hotel after the match. Classico!

Mourinho Sacked!

Wow! I knew that the blood was bad between Roman and Jose but I didn't realize just how bad. Chelski have sacked "The Special One" this morning in the wake of their disappointing result against Rosenberg. Whoever replaces Mourinho will have to deal with those galactico-sized egos just as he did. Good luck to em.

Any thoughts, lads?

Champions League - Gameday 1!

Well, here's hoping that our British clubs fare better today than yesterday when Chelski eked out a poor 1-1 draw against Rosenberg in a half full Stamford Bridge, Celtic were tonked by Shaktar Donetsk and Liverpool could only manage a point away to Porto.

ESPN2 is showing the ManYoo but in my mind the cracker of the day is Arsenal at home to high-flying Sevilla. Both sides are playing great stuff and I'd love to be at the Emirates this afternoon to watch it. Sadly I'll be in the office monitoring on the laptop. Join me?

UF Student Tasered at Kerry Event

By now, you may have caught the news that a UF student Andrew Mayer was arrested and tasered at a speech by John Kerry yesterday for deigning to ask him a tough question or two about why he didn't contest the 2004 election. Here it is in all of its YouTube glory. The university issued a pathetic response today and I'll be asking the Graduate Student Council on Thursday night to demand that cops be removed from all future student council organized events.

Footie Trivia Question of the Week

It's the Champions League Gameday 1 up this week, so here's one for all you big boys dreaming of European glory:

"Who are the top three goalscorers in the history of the Champions League? (Hint, that is only goals since the competition's founding in the 92/93 season).

Good luck, lads!

Back to the Prem

Now that those two Euro 2008 qualifiers are safely out of the way, it's back to the regular business of football. First up this morning on FSC - the North London derby from Shite Fart Lane. Drop by for a chat if you can, eh?

All Hail LUFC!

Six games, six wins! The only side in England with a 100% record. We are romping through Division One and are finally in the black with three points and off the bottom and out of the drop zone in one fell swoop. Tranmere and Leyton Orient - we're coming after ye!

Fortress Wembley!

That's got to be the by-word for England fans today as the lads take on Russia in a crucial Euro 2008 qualifier. My position is that McClaren should play the same team that did the biz on Saturday against Israel and hope for a similar result. A win today and you would have to fancy us to qualify.

Come on England!

Footie Trivia Question of the Week

Since we're concentrated on Euro 2008 qualifiers this week, here's a hopeful one about England goals:

"Who are the top three England goalscorers in the history of the European Championship tournaments (that is, only goals in the finals, not the qualifiers)."

Good luck, lads!

Hear the Tiger Roar!

All hail Yosuke "The Tiger" Dainoji, 2007 Air Guitar world champion, seen here "performing" his take on the Offspring's immortal "Come out and Play." Enjoy.

A BIG BIG DAY!!!

Well fellas, the big day is here. Let' hope this little guy scores some goals. Maybe even the guy behind him knocks one in as well.
Kathy and I have decided to fork out $25 for it. Let's hope it is not money thrown down the drain. Is anyone else buying?
If anyone is just following on the blog I can keep you bang up to date.

COME ON ENGURLUND!!!!!

Calm Down You Lot - It'll be Just Fine!

That's the message from Football 365's Nick Miller, who reckons that England will eke out a victory this weekend against Israel and will go on to do just enough to qualify. As evidence, he points to every other qualifying campaign and asks, "when have England ever romped it?"

Any comments about England's chances this week?

Goals I Remember, Volume 9

One for the Gooner. Here's old Charlie George in all of his early 70s hirsute glory, burying the winner in the 1971 Cup Final. To be fair, Ray Clemence won't want to see that one again on the video, having failed to cover his near post.

Enjoy, lads.

Well-in Wisey!

Dennis Wise won't accept his manager of the month award.

"Nothing from the Football League this year will be going near my mantelpiece after what they've done to us. I just can't accept what they've done to us this year, but I don't want to harp on about it"

Respect!

Footie Trivia of the Week

Hey lads! It's great to be back on the blog after a week's absence during the big move down the Swamp. To celebrate, here's a tantalizing trivia question for you:

"Which two World Cup winning players have also managed clubs in the Premiership?"

Good luck!

Some pain must be shared

Turn on your speakers and CLICK HERE

This charted at number 75 on Top of the Pops in 72. This must include Geoff Thompson and Dennis Lillee

FOOTBALL TIME

Another week of games. I don't know what happened with Bob losing the internet but he asked me to keep the LOB flame burning.
Hope for some company.
