Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Premiership Live!

Before my inevitable fall from grace, let me just note my position at the top of the heap of the Ronaldo the Slave predictions league. I'll be looking for a similar return today as we get set for a full slate of Premier League goodies on offer.

All that and Leeds away to Walsall. Join me if you're snowed in, won't you?

Who says Germans aren't funny?

Oh Lothar!

Oh Hoff!

CLICK!

If it's Wednesday, it must be footie time!

The snow is coming down in sheets here in western NY and I'm betting that Davey's got the day off from the classroom grind and has his feet up with a cuppa and a plate of cheddar toast on his lap just waiting for this afternoon's matches. Join us if you've got the day off too, won't you?

Hurrah! It's Mid-week Footie Time!

As another winter storm is mounting its offensive, there's a full docket of footie on this afternoon to lift the gloom. To start with, there are four Premiership battles, including United at the Hawthorns. "That Damned United" are at home to the Shrimpers. I'll be around for the first half before I have to run off to my afternoon class.

Join me if you've got the time...

USA vs Sweden

This is on FSC at 8:00pm Eastern tonight, so I'll be upstairs with the telly, and dashing up and down for goals and what-not.

Why are we playing them exactly? Is this Freddie Ljungberg's unveiling as the face of the new Seattle MLS team? Just as long as that's it. He's got previous and we don't want to see any more of that kind of thing.

FA Cup 4th Round

It's another FA Cup weekend, which includes some fascinating fixtures today and culminates in yet another Merseyside derby tomorrow.

Sadly, having been knocked out by non-league Histon in the 2nd Round, Leeds will face promotion hopers Peterborough at Elland Road today.

It all starts with West Ham in an early kickoff. Join me for all the fun and romance of the Cup this morning, won't you?

Inauguration Day Footie

Most of the buzz is happening on this side of the pond today. However, there is the slight matter of a Carling Cup semi final to settle as well.

United face a 1-0 deficit from the first leg with Derby but they'll have the advantage of a home crowd at Old Trafford today.

Buh-bye

The Merseyside derby, and the second leg of the Carling between Man U and Derby. What are you watching?

Fleet Foxes on SNL!

In case you missed, the LOB's favorite hirsute Seattle folkies delivered the goods on Saturday Night Live this weekend. Here's their sublime take on "Mykonos." Enjoy!

The Saturday Routine

It may be bleedin' cold on the East Coast this weekend, but we've got some corking footie action to keep the homefires burning.

Join me for a full schedule of Premiership matches as well as the usual moaning and groaning over Division 1.

It's an afternoon of some intriguing FA Cup third round replays today. I'll be popping off to my class at 4 p.m. but I'll be around manning the LOB sportsdesk until then. Pop on by for a chat if you're around and following the matches.

A Voice and Face From the Past

Sad news from England.

David Vine has passed away of a heart attack. He was the original host of A Question of Sport as well as Match of the Day, Ski Sunday and Snooker.
Here is a nice article about him

Pandora Radio

I finally got around to trying out Pandora internet radio, which Gooner and some other friends tipped me off to a while back, over the weekend. It is brilliant. Here's how it works:

Simply go to the site and fill out a typical registration process. Then type in a favorite music artist, click on "Create Radio Station" and you're done. The little genie in the site just keeps picking tunes that are in the same vein until you shut it off. If you've got the time, you can indicate each track that you like and dislike and bookmark certain tangential artists, albums and songs, all of which makes the selection more fine-tuned.

I tried it out on some notoriously idiosyncratic artists and found the system to be just about unerring in its taste. For example, my "Tom Waits Station" produced the likes of Dr. John, Howlin' Wolf, Leon Redbone, Rickie Lee Jones and Dylan.

Try it out at:

Happy listening!

Chelsea v Man U

The rematch: Does Terry have any tears left to shed? Will Ronaldo's Ford Astra insurance rental get him to the stadium. Only a few more hours and we'll know

Ronaldo Unpimps His Ride

You're looking at the remains of Cristiano Ronaldo's Ferrari, which he crashed into tunnel near Manchester airport earlier today. But no worries - Skippy as usual escaped real harm and hitched a ride in Edwin van der Sar's Bentley - really, I can't make this stuff up - and later participated in training.

Ron Asheton 1948-2009 RIP

Boy, it's been a rough week or two for my musical heroes. Last week it was Freddie Hubbard, and now comes the sad news that seminal punk guitarist Ron Asheton, who ripped it up in the Stooges with Iggy Pop, has died of a heart attack at 60. So I'll take a moment today and slap on "Search and Destroy" and try not to think about my own mortality.

More Cup Action!

Thirty two years ago, Southhampton and ManYoo met in the Cup Final and Alec Stepney watched in despair as Bobby Stokes's shot hit the back of the net. The Saints were winners on that day but they're distinct underdogs in this year's 3rd Round clash, even though they're playing at home at St. Mary's. Can lightening strike twice - join me at 11 a.m. EST to find out.

FA Cup!

The Gator is flying back to the tundra as we speak. He might show up sometime after 11 or 11.30 however. Until then, anyone out there?
